   I ordered this through the kickstarter campaign. It took a little longer to deliver than they had promised. But since I received it, I have used it 20-30 times with no complaints whatsoever. The coffee is delicious. It is very easy to use. I especially love the carafe. The design is unique and I like the way the handle is integrated into the shape. My only complaint, and it is very minor, is that the coffee release switch is a little difficult to manipulate but I would rather have too hard than always releasing the coffee inadvertently.    I love that you can keep the cold brew inside and store immediately in the fridge. I left my cold brew in the fridge and used every day for three days, and it still tasted just like when I first made it. This cold brew maker makes it super easy to just wake up, pour a glass, and run to work. Tastes much better when I used this, than just putting ice in my regular coffee pot.    Don’t be intimidated by all the parts, this is a fabulous cold brew maker. Up until now I’ve only had a french press, which is good, but the way this is designed makes the flavor much more intense and holds a lot more. I just pop it in the fridge on a Sunday morning and then Monday morning it’s good to go and there’s enough for the week. Then I can take the bigger part with the grinds out and it’s just the little pitcher.    I have been on a DIY coffee kick lately and this has led me to indulge in some interesting accessories, including a 51oz French press, a vintage hand-cranked cast iron coffee grinder and a high-end coffee maker that consistently delivers a water temp of 200+ degrees for great tasting hot coffee! That said, my absolute favorite purchase in my search for the “perfect cup” has easily been this Barista Cold Brew maker from UrbanTrend! In the past few months, I have attempted to make cold brew in a Takeya pitcher, a glass French press, mason jars with mesh filter inserts and even the well-known Toddy brewing system, which worked well, but I found a tad bulky and visually unappealing. I’m no stranger to making cold brew at home and UrbanTrend’s Barista is hands down my favorite new way to make a big batch of great tasting cold brew concentrate that will last me an entire week! Here’s what I love about the Barista: • Large capacity without being bulky. • Classy styling, looks great on the counter • Stable, stacking design that comes apart and stores easily • Built-in mesh filter with positive locking mechanism for leak-free brewing • Wonderfully easy to clean • Base doubles as storage container and dispenser for concentrate after brewing • Can make any size batch you want! The only issue I have with my Barista is that the storage lid for the base doesn’t fit quite as snugly as it could, despite having a rubber seal. However, this is a very minor gripe and the container still works fine for its intended purpose. I usually like to make a rather bold concentrate which I can later dilute with equal parts water and a touch of cream. Brewing a stronger concentrate this way allows it to be stored anywhere from 1-2 weeks without losing its flavor! Here’s how I make mine: 1) Set up the Barista Cold Brew maker on the counter and ensure that the switch on the front is set to “Lock”. 2) Aiming for a 1:5 grounds-to-water ratio by weight to start, mix approximately 8oz of coarse ground coffee (~250 grams) with approximately 42oz (1250 mL) of water in the upper reservoir of the Barista. The key here is to use either filtered or bottled spring water (regular tap water can result in a sour, off-tasting final product). 3) Use a small spatula to gently stir the grounds to make sure everything gets wet. 4) Allow the mixture to rest at room temperature for 16-20 hours. There is no need for refrigeration during the brew period. Also, the longer it steeps, the more intense the flavors will be, but don’t exceed 24 hours for best flavor. 5) Gently move the switch on the front of the Barista to “Release” and allow the cold brew to slowly drip into the base container. This could take upwards of an hour if you make a large batch like I do. 6) Attach lid to base container and place in fridge. Scoop out wet grounds from top reservoir using the same spatula as above. Rinse the Barista system and allow to dry thoroughly. 7) When ready to drink, simply add equal parts water and cold brew concentrate in a glass, adjusting the ratio to taste. Cream, sugar and ice are optional. Enjoy! For stronger coffee, simply use more grounds, a darker roast or let the grounds steep longer. For a less bold cold brew, use a lighter roast or adjust the grounds-to-water ratio (try 1:6 or 1:7). Either way, the Barista makes experimenting fun and creating your own DIY cold brew recipe as convenient as it gets. For me, it’s a keeper! Highly recommended!

My friend suggested I try cold brew and since then my stomach has never been happier and I’ve never looked back. Up until recently I’d either buy cold brew from the store or the local coffee shop, but that got expensive quick, so I decided to try making cold brew at home. I’ve tried a couple of cold brew makers and the Barista is now by far my favorite. It’s easy to use, makes a copious amount of strong cold brew concentrate, and the container it filters into can be directly stored in the fridge with the lid, lasting for a whole week while staying fresh. I also bought one for the friend I mentioned, and he’s become a big barista cold brew fan as well. Some advice: NEVER dump the used coffee ground in the sink, as they can cause a buildup in your pipes.

   I used to buy cold brew concentrate (EXPENSIVE!) or make it in a carafe with a metal filter. I am not sure why the immersed grounds in the metal filter don’t produce results that are just as good as this, but it never has. No matter how many beans I used I could never get a strong enough coffee for even a spot of milk much less half coffee and half milk like I do with this concentrate.

   This contraption is simple to use and produces consistently good results. I have used cheap beans and fancy beans and true to form the cold brew process brings out the flavors and eliminates acidity. The serving suggestion seems a bit low for me so from one brew I get 3-4 servings but it is easy to make more so it is no big deal. I can’t speak to how easy it is to store because it is almost always in use right now.

   I have reduced one star because the release mechanism can be finicky and feels cheap. I never trust it not to leak a little (or a lot) onto my easy to stain counters so I always keep the carafe under it just in case.

   I actually like the way this operates. Whoever thought it up had a fine idea, but then they farmed out their designs to the cheapest possible Chinese factory and this is what we end up with. The plastic feels chintzy, and the one and only moving part (the drain lever) has terrible action. Furthermore, as you can see from my picture, it leaks! This means you cannot be drinking on one batch of cold brew out of the provided container while steeping another. A lesson I learned the hard way when this thing made a gigantic mess in my fridge. I’ve made sure to clean extra well around the single cheap rubber washer that holds the liquid in up top, and it makes no difference. Now I put a dish under the device, which adds extra hassle and mess. Also, what of all the leaked water? It’s not steeping up top. Now my cold brew is weaker? Also, the liquid capacity of the top pitcher is greater than the capacity of the bottom. Guess how you find that out? When it overflows around the cracks during draining. If only there were some graduated measurements on the side of the top pitcher… I intend to continue using this until it fails completely, which shouldn’t be too long. After all, I paid $40 for it! Would not buy again and would not recommend to anyone.

   I like Cold Brew for the intense flavor. I was unhappy with the bulk of the Toddy brewer so I went searching for something better. I was unsure what I was looking for until I found this Caffeine Hub. It works similar to the Teavana Perfectea Maker. You place the tea maker on your mug and it pushes the bottom up to release the tea. I really like the ease of use, the compactness, and the ingenuity of this maker. Everything stores easily, too. It’s a very clever design. I also really like the retro vibe it gives off. The directions say to use 8oz of coffee and 1300ml of cold water. The handy pitcher has markings on it so you can measure the water easily to pour into the brewer. I used Grady’s, Cold Brew. It comes in an 8 oz can of 4 brewing bags. I like to use bags for easier cleaning all around. Left it in the fridge overnight and drained the concentrate into the pitcher. I like that you have to pull out the release valve in order to move it to the release or lock position. No accidental pours. With the 4 bags of Grady’s Cold Brew and 1300ml of water, it made just under 32oz of concentrate. I have to say, it was the best cold brew I’ve made to date. I’m super happy with this purchase. It’s so easy to use and nice to look at. I would definitely recommend trying one and I’d even hand them out as a gift!

    Delivered today, build feels very similar to the OXO version, but with about half the footprint. I am admittedly an OXO fan, and have 2 of their versions of the cold brew makers. I have struggled for some time now with the OXO and their gaskets on the filter cap, and their tendency to leak. For the record, every time i have had a problem with my OXO version, they have warranted it, and replaced the whole setup, can’t speak on this company’s customer service team (and hopefully won’t have to). I really like that the stainless filter is set in rubber (vice hard plastic), as i believe that it is helping make a good seal at the bottom. I like the capacity because i usually make a solid 32 ounces of concentrate per batch. I use 12 ounces of coffee, and around 50 ounces of water (which is the OXO recipe) and i was actually pleasantly surprised that this model while appearing smaller still holds everything! I like that it is significantly more compact than my current setup and nests together more easily! I’m not mad that there’s no glass here to worry about breaking. Time will tell how everything turns out, but on day one, it looks promising. Recipe: 285-300g of coarse lt ground coffee 50 ounces water Add everything together and let sit for 30 minutes, stir, another 30 minutes, and stir again. Park in the fridge for 36-48 hours. Drain. 32 ounces of concentrate to a one gallon pitcher. Top off with 2% or whole milk (could use water too i suppose 🙂

    My friend’s girlfriend recruited me to help her find a birthday gift for him. We decided to get this cold brew machine because of our good past experiences with Urban Trend products. As you can see from the photos, it is easy to assemble, easy to use and use to store due to its compact form. Cold brewing made simple and easy at home. It even came with a bonus item: the milk frother – super fun to use. It is like a small electric whisk, I was tempted to keep it for myself. We liked that the bottom section could be capped off (cap supplied) and stored on its own, a pitcher of cold brew. This makes it convenient to use and no need to transfer the liquid to another storing container. Also, the pitcher section has measuring units, so you can pour yourself the right amount each time. We tested it with hot liquid to see how the temperature feels while in the container. The container did not get very hot, it seems to handle the hot liquid just fine. I was able to brew some tea with it and then viola, down it goes into the pitcher section. I might get one for myself just to make big batches of brewed tea. Another solid product from Urban Trend.
