   Prior to this machine, I have used a basic Mr Coffee 5-cup machine, and a Ninja Coffee Bar. Obviously it is worlds ahead of the Mr Coffee, you can’t really compare the two, so I will mostly be comparing this to the Ninja. Straight from the box, it’s quick and easy to get set up. Definitely have the directions right with you when you’re setting the time and altitude, so you’re sure you’re setting it correctly. Once it’s all set up, you’re good to go. Initially, my favorite part of the machine is the Hot Water setting. I was recovering from bronchitis and was able to quickly and easily brew a cup of tea without having to measure out the water in a separate measuring cup then sticking it in the microwave. Mostly I did single cups, though I did try out the Keep Warm feature and brewed a half-carafe of hot water, to see how long the water truly stayed hot. By about an hour after it had been brewed, it was still hot enough to be enjoyable, but not piping hot like the first mug. I probably would not rely on the keep warm feature to truly keep your brewed liquid hot for long periods of time. There are four brewing options for coffee: Light, Gold, Bold, and Over Ice. I haven’t tested Over Ice yet because it’s too darn cold for iced coffee, but I’m fairly confident from using the others that it will brew fine, an update may come once it’s been tried. Between Light, Gold, and Bold… I really did not notice a difference. To me, the coffee tasted the same no matter which I chose. However, despite using a couple different brands of coffee, and using it almost daily, I still ended up with some grounds in my cup, no matter which I used. One time, I even saw an entire layer of silt in my cup when I glanced at it at the end of the day (picture attached). The silt washed out in the dishwasher, but that is definitely not something I would expect from a $200+ machine. Something that I had not considered but was pleasantly surprised about was that the altitude setting was to decrease steaming outside of the machine. I always had some steam around when brewing in either of my other two, I simply figured it was part of the coffee making process. However, I have not seen any steam in all the times I’ve used my Braun. Even when I open the cover over the filter basket, there’s little to no steam rising, no matter how soon after the brewing cycle is complete that I do this. I really like the water reservoir, and this is where the Braun majorly outclasses the Ninja. I had needed to replace my Ninja because the part at the bottom where water goes from the reservoir into the machine had started getting grody (on the Ninja), and there was no way to get in there to clean it properly, and this was even right after running a cleaning cycle with vinegar on the Ninja. So when the Braun arrived, that was one of the first things I checked. That area of the reservoir is completely open and easy to clean. I have been emptying what’s left in the reservoir every night and leaving it out to dry, but that probably isn’t entirely necessary to do every night. All removable parts are easy to fit into the dishwasher, though you’ll need a tall space for the carafe. The carafe, removable lid, water reservoir, that lid, the filter basket, and the reusable filter can all be run through the dishwasher, or hand washed if you’ll want to clean them more frequently than you run your dishwasher (or just prefer that). If you’ll be cleaning the carafe by hand, you will definitely need a very good bottle brush, I probably will stick with the dishwasher whenever I use it. A minor complaint I have with it is in the reusable filter. When I’m rinsing my coffee grounds out of it, it takes a lot of extra time and effort than the Ninja’s reusable filter did. With the flat bottom, the grounds hang out there and are reticent about fully rinsing out. It’s doable, it just takes an extra minute or so, and a lot of flipping and turning it around. The drip stop is also very good. I noticed with my ninja that flipping the drip stop on… didn’t actually stop the drips, I usually ended up with coffee burned onto the plate because it would continue to drip after I had removed my cup. With the Braun, I flip the drip stop as soon as it’s done brewing, and I’ve yet to see a single drip afterwards. The only time I’ve seen dripping has been when I did not have the drip stop activated, but opened the top of the filter basket, and even that was just a few. Overall, it’s a fantastic machine that seems to mostly be worth its cost.

   We are not coffee connoisseurs but we love coffee, my husband likes it black and I like it with milk. We have a few other coffee machines, but we wanted one that makes a big jar (and no pods). This machine is perfect for what we wanted. Easy to set up ( even if at first we spend like 1 hour trying to figure how to change the clock!!) and use. The machine itself is HUGE so you need to have a pretty good space on your table top. And height room for when you open the water dispenser. You can make a jar or a single cup. It maintain your coffee on the jar warm. Love the filter that comes with it. Still need to try it for iced coffee. But is not something that we are used to drink. Recommended.

   This coffee maker has a wide variety of making capabilities, while remaining easy to use. The first thing you’re going to want to do is run one carafe of water through it. After that, you can use it however you want! I love that it has a reusable coffee basket so we can stay green and not impact the environment negatively. There are a lot of different ways to program the maker or to use it spontaneously. This is a really good-looking appliance. we have a few stainless steel and black appliances and this one is the star! We plan to get a lot of use out of this coffee maker. I also appreciate that it has a clock on it not only to be able to program it to run whenever we want but because it’s handy to know the time. Love it!

   UPDATE #2: Thinking that perhaps the Afresh cleaning tablets weren’t up to the job, I ran an entire gallon of vinegar through the machine. Between the actual vinegar, and then the tanks of clean water to get all the vinegar cleared out, this took the better part of the day. But it worked (sort of) – I had great coffee once again…. For two days. Then it started getting progressively more watery. I’m fairly certain that what’s happening is, like a clogged shower head, the individual jets of water are no longer spraying straight down – some are shooting off to the side, bypassing the coffee completely. (I think this also accounts for why it’s brewing a whole mug of coffee in under 30 seconds). My husband wants to take the whole thing apart and mess with it. I require all devices that I encounter daily, pre-caffeine, to just work, so I’ve already replaced this with a no-bells-and-whistles $30 standard drip coffeemaker, and husband can have the Braun as his overpriced little project. UPDATE: It’s been a year and a half since I purchased this coffee maker and I am not happy. It has become wildly inconsistent. Doing the exact same thing each morning gives me a different cup of coffee every day. Everything from the dreaded “lightly coffee flavored water”, to bitter and undrinkable, and everything in between. Using the “bold” setting has remedied the “coffee water” issue, but I still get anything from “ok” to “undrinkable” while making no changes to my process at all. With the caveat that I’m writing this after owning the machine for three days (I’ll edit later if necessary), I really like it. When my 9-yr-old Keurig died, I wanted to replace it with something more environmentally responsible. And while I’m the only one in my house who drinks coffee, when my parents visit, they want a whole carafe full. So this is the best of both worlds. I haven’t made a full carafe yet, but I’ve made single cups and have some thoughts…. The directions say to use three small scoops of coffee (a large and small scooper is provided) for a 12oz cup of coffee. No. No no no no no. That was the most bitter cup of coffee I’d ever tasted. I cut it back to 2, and with some creamer and a little sugar, it was fine. I cut it back to 1.5 scoops and didn’t need the sugar. A lot of reviews mention the height of the machine, and it is pretty big. It fits under my cabinets, but there’s not enough clearance to open the compartment where the filter goes and lift the filter out. To solve this problem, I put felt sliders over the rubber feet on the bottom of the machine. Now it’s simple to slide it out to deal with the filter, and then push it back. I really wish the little accents weren’t bright green. I can’t imagine that color really goes with anyone’s kitchen. Surely not mine. I’ve seen complaints about the operation of the machine but it’s pretty straight forward. The clock stays on all the time, so no problem there. You just choose your brew size, hit the “power” button which lights up all the other brew options, chose Light, Gold, or Bold, and you’re done. It’ll just start doing it’s thing automatically. After it’s done it “powers off” (the clock is still on, but accidentally bumping a button isn’t going to start a pot of coffee brewing) The water tank isn’t huge, but that was a selling point for me. Keurig’s water tank is gross! Who wants to brew coffee with three-day old water, in a tank covered in biofilm?! With this I just put in approximately as much as I need, and later dump out any extra and let the tank dry. I did see advertised that this machine has a “filter.” It’s just a tiny little thing to remove chlorine. Rather than remembering to replace that, I’ll just use filtered water to fill the reservoir. The gold-tone coffee mesh coffee filter is perfectly fine. I don’t know why you’d choose to use a paper filter in this machine, but the instructions say you can. One last thing to note – the first part of the serial number of this particular model is KF917. Most of the models on the market are KF907. The “1” indicates that this version has a separate dispenser for hot water. It’s right beside where the coffee comes out, so it’s hard to tell the difference between the two machines. Make sure you know what you’re buying. I’m writing this the weekend after thanksgiving when the 907s are significantly cheaper than the 917. But, that water dispenser was a major selling point for me. If it’s not for you, save yourself some cash and look at the other model. So to summarize, if you are looking specifically for a no-Kcup drop machine that will do multiple single-cups sizes, AND a carafe; and a machine that has a separate water dispenser; and you’re not bothered by the height and can play around with the amount of grounds required, I highly recommend this coffee maker.

   The good: It brews a fine cup or pot of coffee. It has a variety of water volumes for different sized cups. It beeps when the brewing is complete to let you know its finished. The bad: 1. After a while segments of the LED screen start to burn in (burn out). 2. The permanent filter is woven wire mesh and the mesh cracks were it goes into the plastic at both the top and bottom. 3. The CLEAN button is low on the unit, and too easy to press. If it goes into the cleaning cycle you’re stuck with a long process with the carafe and filling the water chamber again. 4. It’s hard to see which water volume setting the dial is turned to. The black line isn’t visible enough when looking from above with reflections in the knob. 5. If you forget to check the water volume setting (and someone leaves it on a full pot) you’ll have coffee all over your counter if you try to brew into a smaller vessel.

   Update 01/18/2025): while I am still loving this machine, when you make a half pot of coffee, it only makes 4 cups (see picture). This is a 10 pot machine so should definitely make at least 5 cups. There is more than enough water in the tank. Anyone else have this issue? Original review: For years I’ve used a French press but I wanted the convenience of making just one cup at a time when needed. I read countless reviews here & independent sites. I originally bought another machine but was very disappointed because it didn’t really make just one cup & used all the water in the tank regardless of what cup setting you chose. Back it went. Last week I bought this Braun model & I have been loving it. First, very nice design with easy to use interface. Second, you can really make just one cup. You can also brew a half pot which is a great feature. I also like the glass carafe so you can see how much coffee is left but I would have preferred a thermal carafe. The coffee quality is very good (I am self-admittedly a coffee snob & proud of it!). I’ve always had a grinder to grind my own beans & did not want a K-cup machine which IMHO makes terrible coffee. So far, so good! Will update if things change.

   I really like the design setup of both the coffee basket and the water reservoir. I no longer have coffee grinds in my water when in my sleepy mode I spill too much ground coffee in the morning. I don’t have an issue with the on switch but I have concerns re the machine not shutting off. The machine makes great coffee and when you have people in the house with different schedules it is great to be able to make one mug at a time.

   Since I received this machine, it produces the wrong output coffee volume versus the one selected. Many have noticed its coffee it’s too concentrated it may be because of the wrong output.

   The worse part is after contacting customer service and sending all the videos, no action for more than 2 weeks. Spending lots of time on hold.

   Definitely not what one expects from Braun nor any machine with this price tag.

    Large size coffee maker and water heater great for any size household. The flavor of coffee brews good, there’s plenty of water capacity from single serving to multiple, and there’s a holder/lid just for single servings. It’s chic and functional which is often times a challenge with modern coffee makers without being too expensive. The timers work great and it’s easy to clean even more so than my smaller coffee maker. Definitely recommend.

    What an excellent coffee maker! I gave this to my mom for Christmas and she was wowed! She is a heavy coffee drinker so she was thrilled when she unwrapped this! Aesthetically, it’s a beautiful countertop appliance, much easier on the eye than traditional coffee makers. It’s sleek and I appreciate the nontraditional shape of the coffee pot. It can make a single cup or a full pot, as well as three other options in between. There are also three settings for coffee strength, light, gold, and bold. We tried the gold and it was good. However, my mom will do bold the majority of the time unless she is sharing the pot with someone. So if you need your coffee strong, bold is the setting for you. It’s quiet and quick. Didn’t take long at all to make a full pot. It’s very giftable and great for every day use. It’s a pretty penny ($230 at the time of this review) but this Baun coffee maker does not disappoint!

    I can’t speak much to the quality of the product, as I only had it a few days. But top marks for their customer relations. I had an issue with the reservoir valve not springing back into place, I reached out to the company. I suggested a replacement reservoir, but since it’s on warranty they said they’d replace the entire unit. I had to cut the electrical cord and send them a photo, and they are sending the replacement. The cut cord made the unit unuseable, making it unnecessary to ship back. And then when I couldn’t recall the warranty details, they responded to my e-mailed question within hours.

    Pretty but…..doesn’t perform well. At all. I’m surprised and disappointed. What’s the point of making a beautiful looking coffee maker if it doesn’t really function well. I couldn’t get a hot cup of coffee out of the darn thing, I got lukewarm at best. The option to change the water temperature? Only works for WATER, so I guess you can get some good hot water but if you want coffee you better enjoy it tepid.

    If you like good fresh brewed coffee Braun is a good choice. I’ve been using this multi-serve model for over three years and the coffee still tastes great. I add a non-bleached #2 paper filter inside the basket filter for easy clean-out, and normally use the Gold setting. An entire pot is brewed in a couple minutes, but easy to “cheat the pot” with the shut-off lever, or using the cups/thermos setting tastes just as great on the “gold” setting. The shut-off lever allows a few drips, which probably helped the non-stick warming plate begin to lose its coating Almost every coffee maker I’ve had does the same thing (maybe a version with a thermal carafe and no warmer plate would last even longer). I have used the hot water feature only a couple times, because it has a coffee flavor. Monthly cleaner reminder works, just follow the instructions. If you do not clean it regularly you’ll get calcium build-up, and an error code. Not fun early in the morning when it won’t make coffee. Great coffee maker overall.

    Hi there fellow coffee enthusiasts. This is a warning. These units break frequently. Three year warranty. But Braun/DeLonghi makes claims a wicked PITA. I have been trying to get them to honor a claim since late December. It’s February now. Multiple “upload a photo with cord cut” email exchanges, see attached images. Basically, these coffee makers are great, but unreliable and backed by crappy warranty service designed to make you give up in frustration. Hence the review. What’s up Maria, Borys, Jose, Joselyn & Ronnie? Y’all were my reps for every stage of getting jerked around. Two days minimum between emails, but at least y’all were polite. I don’t blame you, just doing Corporate’s bidding. Gross. I’d hoped for better from Braun/DeLonghi. Nope.

    That is not hyperbole. Nothing works well. Drop stop leaks like a colander, Oz. on the water tank and cups on the carafe so you have to do math. Carafe opening so small a child couldn’t get in to clean it. IMPOSSIBLE to clean. If you want a headache from making coffee every day, go for it. Never ever stops dripping. Second pic is of the heated that’s losing paint. That’s a new fail

    This is my second review and 3rd Braun coffee maker in just over a year. The first one failed. The warranty replacement failed, and now, the replacement for the 2nd unit does not even work out of the box. What a disgrace!!
