   First off, this is a cute little French press. I love the pop of bubblegum pink! It is beautifully made from a quality well-known company, Bodum. It came with directions that are clear and the coffee making process is surprisingly straightforward. I admit I have never used a French press, but I wanted to move away from disposable capsules. So with some trepidation, I assembled everything and read the directions twice. Frankly, it felt a little like my first day in Chemistry class years ago, but the coffee making process was easier than I expected. Because the lid on this French press does not lock, as I was lightly pressing the plunger after the 4-5 minutes of steeping, I also pressed on the lid with my other hand to keep the lid in place. It all went flawlessly. The resulting coffee came out without grounds and had a very enjoyable aroma and taste. I’m sure with repeat use this will become second nature. Be aware, this coffee maker makes up to 8 SERVINGS, and one serving is considered 4 OUNCES. Bear this in mind when you are measuring the coffee grounds. Initially I didn’t use quite enough coffee. Of course, the coffee/water ratio can be adjusted to individual taste. Clean up was easy, just unscrew the filter assembly and I chose to hand wash everything. This is not instant coffee, but it is not overly time consuming or complicated and it is better tasting and environmentally friendly. Because I didn’t know what to expect, I did use preground coarse coffee designed for a French press coffee maker. If I learn that this is for me I will likely invest in a grinder. But for now, I will enjoy the experience and the coffee. I recommend this product. Care Instructions: Unscrew the filter assembly and clean the plunger unit after each use. Only the filter, glass, plastic and chrome parts are dishwasher safe. There are some safety instructions which I encourage you to read which include: Not for stove top use. Keep away from children while using. Do not allow children to use this coffee maker. Do not plunge with force. Turn lid to close spout when using. Use only coarse ground coffee.    The construction of this coffee press has me impressed. All of the critical parts are actually made very well and fit together with good precision. The press screen & armature are properly made and seal very well against the sides of the carafe – which is actually a tall laboratory beaker! The screen is doubled where it needs to be, along the periphery of the press plate. It’s very effective at sealing the coffee grounds in the lower section when I apply pressure to complete the act of steeping and prepare for dispensing. The frame of this device is beautiful too. It’s easily strong enough to support all the liquid weight and made to keep the bottom of the beaker about 1/2″ above the counter top. The cage/frame and handle fit very securely so I wasn’t worried about the beaker slipping around or me spilling hot liquid. The handle is ample for the weight, when the flask is full. A nice secure fit that can still easily disassemble for cleaning. Oh, yes…this does make very good coffee! I can get 2x 12 ounce cups worth of coffee brewed in one shot – just don’t ram the plunger down too fast. Common sense prevails. If you want to make some killer-strong coffee or you just have appreciation for a French press device, this device takes care of that need…at a very good price point too! I’ve seen much higher priced devices that were not made anywhere near this well – especially the press/plunger! It’s the most important part. We love this thing…and the coffee it makes 😉

   I’ve always wanted a French press and this did not disappoint! I used about 6 tablespoons of Black Rifle coffee, filled it up with 200 degree water, waited a minute for the coffee to crust up, stirred it, waited three minutes, gave it a press and presto! Perfect coffee! The filter did a great job and didn’t let any large grounds through. Cleanup was a little bit tedious because it was difficult to get all of the grounds out from around the filter, but it was worth it for a good strong cup of coffee. My only complaint is that the carafe doesn’t stay inside of the stainless steel basket very tight and you have to be careful when you are knocking the grounds out of it. You don’t want to throw your carafe in the garbage by accident. Other than that, this is a great French press for the money! I love that it is dishwasher safe too!!

   This french press is very similar to other ones I have used, with a couple of improvements. My old press left the pour spout open just a bit when the cover was on and dust, little flies, moths, and other bugs could get in and ruin the coffee; but this new press has a much longer lip on the inside of the cover that completely closes off the spout. When you want to pour coffee you can just rotate the cover until the strainer aligns with the spout, so your precious ‘starter fluid’ is protected from bugs still. There is one metal screen on the plunger end in the version that I ordered which is sufficient for most coffee grinds; the instructions recommend a course grind to keep the screen from clogging. As with most presses, the screen can be easily removed for cleaning. The plunger works very smoothly and does not bind on the edges of the beaker which serves as the body of the press. The metal outside support holds the beaker tightly so that the glass is protected and will not easily fall out while pouring. Very happy with this, and I’ll be using this new press instead of the old one most of the time.
