Something about that conical filter just makes better coffee. The problem is the thermal carafe does not keep the coffee hot for 2 hours as claimed. The base may heat up but it goes off when brewing stops unlike my old discontinued Cuisinart whose base plate stayed on for 2-4 hours, programmable. The thermal carafe is not insulated well enough to keep it hot without a continuously hot base plate. Yes I could pre-heat the carafe with hot water before brewing but that defeats the pupose of the timer that has the coffee ready for me when I wake up. The pour-stopper mechanism does not work. You press the lever to pour, but when you let go of it, it keeps pouring. Also get used to military time for the clock.

This was an expensive coffee pot! It was not an impulse buy at all. We were hoping to replace the less expensive coffee pots we’ve been buying with a better higher quality coffee pot. That is not what we got it all. It’s hard to fill with water. It makes an absolutely horrible mess every time you pour a cup of coffee and it’s literally a 6 to 7 cup coffee pot. It’s ridiculous! We tried to make it work, but now the return window is closed. I guess we’re stuck with it. Don’t waste your money unless you really enjoy cleaning up the counter and taking the lid completely off to pour your coffee.

It is great! Only draw-backs are the “pause and pour”, which does drip one drop every time, and the lid handle, which does not have enough length for an average thumb to hold back during filling (but my non-Melitta was like that too!) Update: Two days after I wrote this review, the coffee-maker died! 🙁

Really nice brewer, very tasty coffee on Bold. I drink a bit stronger than they recommend, and it’s very consistent. It took me some time to get used to programming the start timer, but then it’s the first programmable coffee maker for me. Also it’s on a 24 hour clock, so you need to take this into account when setting clock and timer. But this is a small concern once you have used it a few times. It stays hot for 2 hours, but long before this, I transfer the coffee to a stainless steel thermos, so win win. Average brew time for a full pot is about 10 min. It gives you 20 sec. to pour out a cup mid-brew. Nice size, good for small space.

I’ve been using nothing but Melitta drip method to make coffee for nearly 40 years. I purchased a small 6 cup (2.5 mug) Melitta drip maker around 1985, and I still use it. I also have two one cup pour-over and one 10 cup pour-over makers. I wanted a larger automatic coffee maker for years and I purchased at least three different ones. I’ve since given them all away. I was thrilled when I discovered Melitta was making this machine, and I didn’t hesitate to buy one. I have not been disappointed. This is a simple machine and makes wonderful coffee the Melita way. If you’re looking for a bunch of bells and whistles, this might not be the machine for you. If your looking for coffee brewed using the traditional Melitta pour-over method, I recommend this maker.

Coffee maker works great. Makes beautiful coffee highly recommended.

Okay, first it doesn’t stay on 4 hours like our previous Cuisinarts, it’s 2 hours and that’s fine because the coffee is awesome!
It holds 2 cups less but that’s fine too.
We were replacing Cuisinarts every 2 years for one reason or another and I was actually not liking my coffee anymore! (SAY IT AIN’T SO!) I’m quite sure my baby bottles contained coffee.
This Melitta is more compact, a good thing.
Simple and sleek.
Easy! No spills. Do drips. No scorching.
Touch the brew button for 2 more hours, easy.
Makes very good coffee. I use Starbucks Breakfast Blend and I’m loving my coffee again.
Brews hot coffee, which you can control.
Great purchase!

Pros: low profile, good clean look, soft touch controls, nice wide water level view
Cons: one temp warmer… scalding! much too hot (for me anyway), two choice brew selector virtually indistinguishable outcome… bland, flat-bottom conical filter basket doesn’t allow as good of a final product as their other models with narrow bottom conical baskets, and brews much too quickly to produce good flavorful coffee.
I like Melita products and have used them fairly exclusively for decades. This one is dissapointing compared to others of theirs, especially for this price point – a $35 typical US brand would do the same.
I won’t bother returning it but rather donate or give it away to someone less discerning, after I find a carafe to fit my prior Melita.
