   When brewing a full pot it uses all the water but only 10 cups have went to carafe, takes another 5-10 minutes for rest to fill. In addition the coffee has grounds in it. I don’t think the carafe is pushing up when installed to open the spout enough for the coffee to empty into the carafe. I contacted coffeemakers.us.com customer service and Breville, both acted like I’ve never used a coffee maker and stopped responding to emails. I read multiple reviews before purchasing and multiple people mentioned Breville’s terrible customer service and I am finding out they were correct. Spend another $50 and buy a Moccamaster coffee maker and you can thank me later.

   I have been purchasing coffee makers with the grinder built in for decades. finally decided to get one that is separate because the built in one needed way to much cleaning and all the time it was the grinder part that went south on me. I had every make including breville combo. actually had two of them. wow that was a pain in the butt to clean everyday and only lasted little over a year for them to die. made great coffee but maintenance was way to high. so this time around I got this Breville coffee maker with separate coffee grinder. I was dreading to do the extra step. but after using it for two weeks now I love it. it made the best coffee I ever had. this machine make the coffee in fraction of the time so doing the grinding wasn’t an issue. I did get one first and there was a defect so they ended up replace that one for another but it was a painless experience. I love breville products. I have a small oven too from them and we cant live without it. I don’t think we use the stove oven any more unless we have to cook a turkey… I haven’t tried to cold brew yet but I am every happy with this setup. should have done this long time ago. my only suggestion to everyone is to get a good coffee grinder to go with this coffee maker. update: 02/23/2020 the machine is working great but noticed a heating plate coating is peeling off. i only use wet paper towel to clean this and only thing i can think of is some time coffee grinds can get on the plate. kind of disappointed this is happening. considering it’s not a cheap coffee maker and from a great company. update: 05/21/2020 been trying to reach out to the company. no one is out there for service. emails, chat and phone calls. nothing. product over all is great. i just purchased $430 oven from them but no service after the sale. i have to bring down my rating. update: 07/02/2021 ok so as a coffee maker it’s great but once again the heating plate coating is coming off. i never use metal pad to clean it so why is it coming off again. this is my second one that is doing this. i replaced one already a year ago. i honestly think it’s the manufacture sub contractor that makes these has the issue. it’s really disappointing considering this is a not cheap machine. at this point i’m still using it but the rust spot on the heating element is getting bigger everyday. they really should get another company to make these for them. i been a customer for years and they make really good coffee makers but not this model.

   I put a crack in the carafe in November of 2021. (Item # SP0024319 Description: CARAFE ANZ NA) On November 9ᵀᴴ I ordered a replacement. I was told it should ship within a couple weeks. Over the course of several months Breville sent me emails that begin with, “We apologize for the delay in regards to your recent order…” I received two such emails before November 30th. The text was so small it was near impossible to read. See screen shot attached. So unprofessional. On November 30th and December 7ᵀᴴ Breville sent me emails which partially stated, “If everything is already working great, we humbly ask for a moment of your time to share your experience by quickly posting a review to our website.” The carafe wouldn’t actually ship until May 13th of 2022. I received four more emails from Breville between Dec 10th, 2021 and Jan 24th, 2022 asking if I would like to keep or cancel my order. Each time I selected Keep. On Feb. 2ᴺᴰ 2022 I was sent a receipt and was sure it would ship. Then nothing until today, May 13th, 2022. This is one company I’ll avoid like the plague moving forward. You can’t blame this on supply chain anything as the order was placed in November of 2021. And they still sell this product. Buy two and keep one for parts, or purchase from a reputable company. Not this one.

   Actually I’m drinking a cup of Keurig-brewed coffee while I type this review, to remind myself why I love this new Breville coffeemaker (which is about as different from a Keurig as you can get). Now, don’t get me wrong: Keurig makes a fine product. My husband got me a Keurig machine three years ago and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s easy to use, clean-up is next to nothing, and there are lots of different coffee pods available on the market. But recently, I had freshly-brewed coffee at a restaurant, and then later at a house party, and thought, “Wow. I’ve missed this taste.” I wanted something to give me that taste I’d missed. Something bold. Something truly satisfying. I wasn’t really looking forward to buying ground coffee again, dealing with the hassle of brewing it, having to be careful not to break the carafe (and not to mention now having two different coffee machines on my kitchen counter, since I never planned to retire the Keurig machine.) But this Breville machine has exceeded my expectations. First, it makes darn good coffee. I’ve tried the various settings (Fast, Gold, Strong) and every cup has tasted great. I’ve made single cups (see my photo #1) as well as multiple cups using the carafe. Second, it’s fun to use. Really. The menu display is easy to follow and even though there are lots of options, it’s user-friendly. Also: I like the option of using the basket (photo #2) for a larger brew, and the cone (photo #3) for a smaller brew. The basket utilizes a gold filter (which is included, in the box, with the coffeemaker) or paper filters (also included). The cone, likewise, can use paper filters (not included — buy size #4 because it fits just right) or a gold filter (also not included). My only disappointment so far is that the coffee doesn’t brew as hot as I like it, even with the brew temperature set at maximum (208). Especially when I add some milk to the coffee — it’s cooled down to the point where I frequently have to microwave the cup to get it hot again. Breville does suggest (in the enclosed printed manual, which is very thorough) warming the carafe up with some hot water, then emptying it out a minute later before brewing your coffee. Maybe that will help get (and keep) the coffee temperature a bit higher.

THEIR WEBSITE CONTINUALLY SHOWS THE GLASS CARAFE AND/OR THERMAL CARAFE REPLACEMENT AS OUT-OF-STOCK. THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. THIS WILL DEFINITELY INFLUENCE WHETHER WE WILL BUY THEIR PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE. WE WERE LOYAL CUSTOMERS OF THEM BEFORE THIS. HOWEVER, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.    So I have had this coffee maker for five and a half years. I bought it in Dec 2018. The coffee it makes is great with what comes out of the box. I always did proper descaling and cleaning. I only had one issue and that was the hot plate became pitted and had some rust. Today my coffee maker died. Halfway through a pot it just turned off. the outlet is fine and everything else works in the outlet. The machine will just not turn on anymore. I am really sad that for the cost there is no spare parts for repair available. I would have replaced the hotplate for sure and now what ever is broke in it. For the cost and the fact I didn’t use any of the fancy other brew methods I would have gone with a Technivorm Moccamaster. They have a simple repair process that I could have done. If you are not good with electronics and want a bunch of fancy ways to dial in drip coffee then this coffee maker is great. Update. I took it apart out of curiosity if it was something simple. Looks like a fuse melted and burnt a large portion of the board. Sadly this fuse was soldered to the board and many chips behind it died. I’m glad there wasn’t a fire.

   I bought this one for the glass carafe which I prefer to the thermal carafe. The build quality is great and the features are many. It comes with a gold tone basket filter and also has a cone adapter (#4) that snaps into the brew basket. The cone adapter did not come with a gold tone filter, so you need to either purchase one or use a paper filter. I had read some reviews on it that initially made me hesitant to buy it, but I am glad I finally bought it. One of the chief complaints was water left in the bottom of the reservoir. When I first unboxed the machine and set it up, I ran a tank of water through it as instructed, and it left about a quarter of an inch in the bottom. I repeated that step 3 times with the same result. I mopped it out with a paper towel except for a small recess in the center that leads to the pump. (The directions said that it needs a small amount of water to prime the pump so you don’t burn it up) I decided to brew a full pot and see if this was going to be a problem. After the first brew, it only left water in the small recess at the center bottom like the instructions said. I used the gold cup standard setting (SCAA) and it brewed the full 60oz very quickly. Not only is this machine fast, but it brews a hot tasty cup of coffee. Consistency is what this machine is all about. This is one thing that I have been having a problem with at home with other brewers I have had. This machine will even do a cold brew. It has many pre programmed settings, but you can also customize your own settings as well. It is very easy to clean. The shower head has a threaded retainer, and you can take it off and rinse it clean. Just be sure to read the manual and go through all the settings so you are familiar with all the features (there are many). It has a fast brew setting as well. You will love how fast this machine is. Enjoy your purchase, you won’t regret it. Edit: Nearly 5 years later. I added some pictures for a brewer that is used at least 5 days a week for about 5 years. I noticed some negative ratings that made me laugh a bit. Somebody doesn’t know how to clean a coffee machine. I am not the most careful meticulous cleaner, but I wash my carafe and lid and basket assembly in the dishwasher and unlike someone else.. mine looks clean. I don’t have any issues with that at all. It still makes a great cup of coffee nearly 5 years later. I provided a picture of the large basket which has a centralizer broken off of it. I broke it being a clumsy bonehead. The only other issue I have had is the coating on the hot plate. After about 3 years of use, it started pitting and coming off in spots. It really isn’t that noticeable when assembled. You can look at my machine picture and see it through the glass carafe. It doesn’t really bother me because it still functions fine. I will admit that I only use spring water in my machine because the tap water at my house is absolutely awful no matter how much you filter it. I have only had to descale the machine 2x since I have had it. I don’t know why people on here keep saying there aren’t any replacement parts.. Breville does have parts for it. This machine does show some wear, but overall it is still in pretty good shape even when using it almost daily for years. I still give it a 5 star rating.    I’ve had a Mr. Coffee coffee pot for over 30 years. Probably cost $10. It looks like i bought it a week ago. I’ve kept it…just in case. The Breville’s life – not so much. This was a gift; and I know they paid approx $300. After about a year the hot plate began to brown and the black finish began to scrape off….??? As if the coating that should be heat resistant started to dissolve. Now, I’m afraid this thing is going to catch on fire because the hot plate has a bounce to it now and it looks like it is going to cave in. I contacted Breville support and they want $125 for them to look at it, repair it, or if they need to, replace the unit. This coffee pot makes great coffee and it brews very quickly. Super terrible disappointment. Not only with the quality, but also the lack of care their support desk displayed when I explained the issue. They were professional. They did a lot of typing while i was on the call, and low and behold they were doing the paperwork for me to return the coffeepot for repairs. That’s great, right? If I handed them $125. This is a $300 coffee pot. $300!!!!! You would think they would have this dangerous design flaw as a red flag. I’ve seen this same issue with other reviews. They know about it. So instead of taking a risk and having my house go up in flames, I’ll be using the 4-cup Mr. Coffee until Breville contacts me and wants to do the right thing. I hope they do. Do not disappoint yourself. This design flaw is not good.

    We really enjoy the flavor of the coffee brewed in our Breville BDC400BSS Precision Brewer Coffee Maker. However, one issue we have had over time is that the black warmer gets too hot. It gets so hot that it not only burns the coffee but also the rubber material starts degrading over time and coming off. We ended up just disabling it and letting our coffee get cold and warming it in the microwave as a workaround. I have owned a lot of coffee makers and this is the first one that had this issue.     I’ll start with the good. Love the brew options and nice screen and controls. Very easy to set up for auto brew. All the reviews about the hot plate looking horrible even after careful use to avoid unnecessary contact with the carafe are true. It took about 6 mos to a year to become significant and about 18 mos later the hot plate looks like the surface of a rusty, pitted ship anchor. Contacted Breville CS, and it’s been crickets. I would not buy another Breville product, especially since they are not cheap to begin with.

    This unit is fantastic. Beville knocked it out of the park on this design. It super customizable without being difficult. I highly recommend this unit to anyone, but definitely to people who like to experience the with different roasts/temp/brew time/etc. The ONE thing I would recommend is getting this glass carafe version OVER the thermal. I had the thermal unit for about a year or so (loved it), BUT… I wanted to clean the lid to the thermal carafe. After much research, there is no way to open the lid to clean out the coffee that flows through it. I did a bunch of research and found folks that had posted about it. One person showed a picture after taking a knife to it and cracking it open; it was disgusting. Old coffee and what appeared to be mold. That’s a MAJOR design flaw with that lid. That said, I contacted Breville and made them aware of the issue. They gave me the glass unit on free swap. The glass carafe doesn’t have a closed off lid to retain heat since there is a warming plate, so it’s super easy to clean. I find the warming plate to be the correct temp; it does not burn the coffee. You will not be disappointed in this coffee machine!

    I am a coffeegeek. My ‘other car’ is a German lever operated espresso machine. I often use gram scales and kitchen timers to ensure optimal brewing of my target. However… I have three kids that get on each of their school buses from 6:45 to 8am and don’t have time in the morning race to go through the rigmarole of making drip coffee properly. I know others might say ‘oh.. it doesn’t take that long to… (blah blah blah blah)’ Hey! I’m drinking coffee? Do you HONESTLY think I’m a morning person?? I need a couple cups of coffee to wake up enough to make my cappuccino on my lever machine after the kids are off to school! I used the highly rated Bonavita Connoisseur (https://smile.coffeemakers.us.com.com/Bonavita-One-Touch-Featuring-Thermal-BV1900TS/dp/B00O9FO1HK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2HIS36HH6ROCK&keywords=bonavita+coffee+maker&qid=1573311622&sprefix=bonavita%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-3) for the last while after being disappointed in the low quality of the Kcup system (due to old coffee and over extracted amount of coffee (9.5gm / American mug is half strength). It makes a great cup of coffee (and also has SCA certification like this brewer) – BUT – you can only really make half a pot of coffee (4 5oz cups isn’t enough for our household) and with 8-12c filters, you will overflow the filter 25% of the time-ish.. AND you have to preheat the thermos kettle or else you’re going to be drinking luke-warm coffee (“I spit you out of my mouth!” – JC) especially if you use a little cream. The Breville rocks: • You can control the flow rate in case you’re overrunning your filters • Holds the coffee at a good hot temp – 182’f (that isn’t scalding for you pansies worried about using a heating plate) • Up to 1.8l of hot coffee!! • Even the quick start guide has proper grams per volume of water (5.5% extraction ratio per SCA standards) • …. aaaaaandddd…. **** drum roll please!!!! ***** AUTOMATIC timer!!!! THE best part of waking up… it’s not THAT coffee in your cup – it’s whatever you want in your cup, when you want it, HOT. Gripes – • Only keeps the hot plate on for 2 hours… usually the coffee is gone by then, so no biggie for me. • That’s it. If you read online reviews of brewers you’ll see complaints that it’s too complicated. Uh.. sorry snowflake – took all of 30 seconds of reading the quick start guide to figure it out. Drink more coffee. OK – one point that wasn’t immediately obvious – when you enter the hardness from the included test strip, the number on the machine is the number of red bars that show up on the hardness scale. There’s all kinds of other features that I don’t care about – like using the single brew setting with optional adapters etc… I will like to play around with the iced coffee setting someday, but today I’m enjoying a hot cup of coffee. ******* Addendum: If you are looking for filters for this machine – you won’t find any information in the manual that comes with the machine. I believe they are 12c filters, usually found for commercial machines. See the attached picture to compare against a typical brand 8-12c filter. You can see why you’ll end up with a pot full of grounds if you try to use the 5.5% ratio for more than a 8c pot… and forget about 100g of grounds for a 12c pot! Sams locally had the commercial 12c filters you might want to check out.

    We’ve had this for 6 months or so, and recently it makes very loud noises when brewing (wakes us up) and the hot plate has been peeling for a few weeks now. How can a “luxury” brand like this allow such shotty manufacturing practices? Asked customer service and basically I’m stuck with this piece of garbage. You would think that it being still under warranty and 6 months old, they’d send out a replacement….Nope. Stay away – stick with your CoffeeMate, Ninja brands – those machines have lasted me years and I don’t know why I made the switch to Breville.

    I’ve used a Bunn Velocity coffee maker for yrs my last one last 8 hard yrs, so when it finally broke down I decided I was going to upgrade and get a top of the line model. I did my research and narrowed it down to two machines, both machines were “gold standard coffee” makers. I decided to layout the 300.00 plus on the Breville and I hate it. Here are my issues 1) It’s Loud, it basically GROWLS the whole time it’s brewing and makes this loud steam burst and the end of cycling, so if your bedroom is near kitchen and you get up early plan on waking your spouse if you want coffee. 2) It’s hard to keep clean. The cap on the pot comes off but does not come apart, it’s two pieces and spring loaded I’ve tried everything to clean it from soaking, scrubbing and dishwasher to no avail. The brown coffee buildup just gets worse the more you use it. The reservoir is another issue (see pictures) at the bottom is a cup, for lack of a better word, but the brew cycle does not draw all the water out and that “cup” which I did noticed upon first use and didn’t think it would be problematic since I use it 2-3 times a day. Well it was a problem when the descaling light came on and under bright lights I pour the solution into tank and to my horror the tank was filled with gross mildewy floaters. So I had to use 3-4 paper towels after each use to soak up all the water and dry the tank out completely to never see THAT again. 3) The pot itself has a tiny hole that cleaning the interior is almost impossible if your hands are normal size it’s quite the squeeze to reach in with sponge, so much so that I reverted to pushing sponge in pot and use I wooden spoon to clean inside creating a new Olympic event in the process. 4) Within 6 months the heat plate, which by the way only stays on 60mins and your last cup of full pot is always Luke warm, rusted out (see picture) I say 6 but I believe it started sooner, the coating on plate is super thin and rusted out quickly. 5) WHICH BRINGS ME TO CUSTOMER SERVICE….THERE IS NONE The glass pot is super fragile so don’t break it your not getting it replaced through customer service because THERE IS NONE Don’t try and get your rusting heat plate fixed through customer service THERE IS NONE 6) If you been drinking a type of coffee and love it, plan on spending alot of money on new coffees because your old one will taste completely different in this machine and you will have to find a new one that fits your taste and this machine So needless to say after 11 months of use I WENT AND REPLACED THIS MACHINE with the exact machine I had before it the Bunn Velocity and WASTED 300.00 plus On this coffee maker. DONT BUY THIS

    The machine is beautiful and even though I thought it might be too large on the counter it is not. It just looks like we love our coffee. I have plenty of space under the cabinet. There are several custom setting that included water hardness (there is a test strip included), bloom time, coffee strength and even coffee filter type. I can use cone filters, flat bottom filters or the included reusable gold mesh filter. I have only recently become interested in pour over coffee and there is a conversion kit available on the Breville website for $35 dollars. The coffee brewed is wonderful and there is a “Gold Brew” setting that meets the Specialty Coffee Association standards. There are two things that could be an issue for some users. There is not way to turn back on the hot plate after it automatically shuts off and no mention of how long the heating plate stays on after brewing anywhere in the manual. The second issue is the ball stopper on the filter basket. If you turn on the coffee maker without the carafe lid being on the pot the water could overflow from the basket. The lid pushes up on the stopper to allow the water to fall into the pot. The drip stopper is a feature I tend to like because I can pull the carafe out while it is still brewing to get a quick cup before it finishes if I am in a hurry.

    This Breville BDC400 Precision Brewer Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe comes with pleanty of instructions but when followed it is quite easy to set up and I haven’t had to return to the manual after going through the process one time. The quick start guide is useful but I highly recommend also looking at the greater detail with each step. For example, the water needs to be tested for hardness as a first step after the initial washing of the coffee maker parts before the first usage. This is no biggie. You fill the reservoir with whatever water you will use most often and dip in for one second, the test strip they give you. You wait for a minute and based on the hardness of the water, anywhere from one to five dots will darken. You then enter those numbers in. The coffee maker will then optimize for the hardness of your water. Then, with a push of the button, the reservoir of the water processes through the coffee maker, making it clean inside. After that, you just empty the carafe, refill the reservoir and you’re good to go. You can brew with a basket style permanent filter, a paper filter in the basket, or a cone filter. If you choose to go the cone route, you will have to buy filters. I found that using the basket style brewing with paper filters tastes best and the instruction book hints say as much. This maker is really built of quality materials and it does a great job of brewing an excellent cup of coffee. And, believe it or not, you can brew a single cup even though it isn’t a single cup brewer. What a versatile maker. I am a coffee connoisseur and I recommend it highly.

    I absolutely love this coffee maker. I love Breville brand overall and own 3 in the house. I’m coffee addict and I own Nespresso but I needed regular coffee brewer. The amazing part is that coffee is hot the way I like it and remains hot in the pot for 2 long hours. One smart machine. I wouldn’t take off 1 Star because of the defect from shipped coffee machine from coffeemakers.us.com and didn’t keep coffee warm. Instead, I have reached out to the Breville and they immediately shipped me the new one and shipped the one from coffeemakers.us.com back to them. Their customer service is awesome! I wanted brand new replaced coffee maker to come from them. It’s superb and works perfectly. I have even programmed it to brew early in the morning and smell of coffee aroma inside home is wonderful. I wouldn’t have any other regular coffee machine. I highly recommend this one. Taste of coffee is exceptional and make sure to buy fresh coffee. I buy organic one in smaller quantities from Whole Foods and grind it there on the spot. Unless you have the grinder at home.

Should not have this happen. I’ve called, sent photos per Breville request at first contact. It’s been 6 months. No communication from Breville. I am requesting a replacement machine.     I very rarely write a negative review but after the experience I had with customer service, I find it impossible not to. Customer service is almost non-existent. When I finally got through to them by phone, all I got was double-talk. A bit of background: Breville used to be a great company. My go-to for small appliances. Customer service was wonderful. I contacted them 9 years ago when my Keurig brewer stopped functioning to find out where to send it for service. The unit was 7 or 8 years out of warranty and they sent me a brand new unit, no questions asked. Current issues: Issue 1: My Precision Brewer has a consistent musty/moldy smell after many descaling attempts. I have taken very good care of it and descaled on schedule in the past. I contacted customer service via the Breville USA website on 2/28. They responded and asked questions such as when I descaled last, what I used to so etc. I responded immediately. No response for two weeks. I had to send an inquiry to the support site to get them to respond. Someone responded with more questions last week. I answered. Received a response today with duplicate questions and more ridiculous questions. They even asked me what kind of coffee I used and what the date was on the bag. I answered and got fed up and called customer service. Let them know that issues I was having with emailing service as well as the issues with my unit. They asked what I used to descale (This was the third time over the entire experience). I told them descaling solution and water and a weak solution of vinegar and water the last time as I was not hearing back from customer service and I wanted to use the brewer. They told me vinegar was too strong and that I should only ever use water in this particular machine. They were very adamant about this. I was put on hold for 15 minutes after which they told me they needed me to try their powder de-scaling solution, which I’ve tried before and to let them know how that works. 15 minutes before I was told rather rudely that only water should be used. I have a feeling if I would have stated that descaling solution was used they would have told me that was wrong. Issue 2: The paint on the heating plate is peeling and rusting. This unit cost 299.00 and Breville USED to be a high-end brand that I trusted. I was told that this was a cosmetic defect caused by the acidity of the coffee so the damage would not be covered. I let her know that I consistently wipe the plate after use. Why on Earth would they use these materials if they coffee would peel and corrode them. It’s a coffee maker. I can honestly say that I have never experienced such shoddy service. It seemed that they would have argued with any answer I gave them. Attitude was that whatever issue I was having it could not have possible their fault and I feel they were trying to get out of providing me with warranty service. I will never buy from Breville again, which is a shame because I previously loved this brand. I am going to shop with a different brand in the future. Please save yourself an unbelievable amount of annoyance and do not buy this brewer. It’s pretty, but not for long!
