   This is the first unit I received with this problem. The hot plate looks like was beaten with a sledge hammer. I thought it is just a manufacturing one-in-a-million fluke. Returned it and got a different model hoping for better results. The replacement, however, has the same exact problem, just in different locations around the hot plate. Funny thing is that they put a card inside the machine that says this is a hand built and individually tested unit! Who is doing the testing?!!!

   Got this almost 15 years ago, still going strong. Big plus, the design pretty much never changes except for very minor tweaks. They claim if you send in they will completely refresh the mechanics for $100, never wanted to part with it for that long. If you look at the one-star reviews, most of them are for the filter basket clogging and overflowing. This is because of the poor design “drip-stop” / strength slider on the filter basket that has a tendency to slide down to the “closed” position without you noticing it (which is why I knocked off a star.) I had a similar problem, which I finally permanently fixed by screwing a small machine screw into the side of the basket to hold it permanently open (see photo). The non-mechanically-inclined or “I paid $300 for THIS?” crowd may find it ridiculous that you should have to do that. Without a dripstop, you need to master the technique of deftly sliding a cup under as you slide the pot out, pour your cup while holding under the dripper, then slide the pot back. It’s an old trick for any coffee maker and easy once you master it, but then you shouldn’t be shorting the pot anyway should you? That’s just plain evil, and it only takes 6 minutes to brew a full pot. The alternative is a Mr. Coffee / Krups / etc. type brewer which I’ve found is harder to clean, slower, noisier, hard to fill, and doesn’t make coffee as well. Super-simple and easy to disassemble and clean, which we do once a week whether it needs it or not :-). Yes expensive, yes quirky, yes not a beauty contest winner, but best of the ones I’ve used without getting into hand-pour purism. Uses standard #6 cone filters which I buy by the bushel at Costco – I don’t know what people are talking about with the coffee filters. Enjoy!

   This is my third revised review for this appliance because it just keeps getting worse! After 5 months, I noticed cracks had developed in the water reservoir! When I contacted Techniform about the problem, I was told I have to repack the coffee maker, send it in for repair (and drive 60 miles round trip to Fed Ex to drop it off). They will repair and return…which means I am without a coffee maker for a week to 10 days! I feel that having this kind of problem with a $350+ coffee maker warranted a replacement, not a hassle like sending it in for repair after only 5 months! The price tag on these coffee makers is RIDICULOUS and cheap plastic should not be used for the water reservoir. This machine should have lasted a lifetime with NO problems at this price-point. My old Hamilton Beach drip machine worked just as well and was ALWAYS reliable! Because I spent so much money on this thing, I feel I have no choice but to go through all this to get the machine fixed, but I would strongly urge you to NOT buy one of these. They are WAY overpriced and this is the second major problem I’ve had in the first 5 months! I will never buy another and regret the one I own now. Shame on Techniform for awful customer service and a flawed product!

   I’ve bought many coffee makers over the years. Cuisinart, ICoffee and many others. This is the top of the line. No bells and whistles, no programming,nothing but amazing coffee. So smooth and delicious. When you finish your cup there is no silt at the bottom of the cup..none. It brews amazingly fast. I set everything up the night before,in the morning turn it on and it’s done brewing by the time I’ve brushed my teeth and fed the animals. I highly recommend and I am very fussy about my coffee.

   Our old Coffee maker decided to bite the dust right before Christmas and decided to upgrade to a better machine. After many reviews I chose this maker and happy I did, it makes a fantastic cup of coffee. The features I really like is the flow control, you can make the flow slower for a longer steep time if you want a even stronger coffee. If you get a nice dark roast, this machine really brings out the flavor and richness unlike any other coffee maker I have owned. The overall quality of this machine is top notch and has a design characteristic that is unique. Another great thing is how easy this machine is to clean up. You can fully disassemble the basket, water neck, etc for quick thorough cleaning. Another feature which is nice is the auto shut off and warmer settings…not only do you not have to worry about going off and leaving it on but you can also keep the coffee from burning as you drink from it throughout the lazy mornings. The only thing I dislike about this particular machine is that it is 10 cups but you are only getting 10 cups if you were to use something like a english tea cup…we have what I would consider average american sized coffee cups and have to usually make two pots in order to actually get 10 cups out of it. Besides that, I’m very pleased. Overall, it makes great coffee, easy to clean up, high quality product, and looks great in our kitchen My machine also came with a 5 year warranty….that’s unheard of in this era of disposable appliances. This thing is built Very durable which explains the warranty.

   Updating my review!!! We moved, started a reno, and have been using this coffee maker this whole time (it is now mid July 2024), at least twice a day. Once our daughter started drinking coffee and for some reason locking the flow and forgetting to unkock, and I’d make coffee not realizing until the carafe wouldnt fill, we did learn that while that is perhaps a helpful feature, this causes the sludge/sediment to get poured into the mug and color and taste are off. It also seems a bit pointless because even if I am making a full pot, this thing brews it in just a couple of minutes seriously its fast. I can’t imagine a time anyone would need to pause, pour, and restart, and if so, that sounds like a crazy household, but of that is you, my suggestion would just be to ALWAYS unlock the lever so the next brew is normal. Other than that, I try to remember to descal the machine with urnex descaler about twice a year. The machine is still quiet, and when I let (yes, let- this is one way I show my love, through acts of service) my husband brew his coffee (I don’t drink it) he still gets a kick out of watching it brew. Very happy with the machine. It is simple, brews well, just wish it had auto off, but once you make coffee regularly in it shutting it off becomes muscle memory like anything else. Now I’m looking to upgrade his machine this Christmas to another brand that auto grinds and brews so our daughter can take this and our grinder of to *sniffle* college next fall! (Pro tip-a yr or 2 before sending your kid into the world, start upgrading your own kitchen cookware and gadgets, especially if nice to begin with, and hold on to the originals to set your kiddo up with. They will likely have a higher quality product (even cheaper things were made better years ago) than if you get them entry level stuff, they (should) already know how to use it, and setting up a dorm or apartment doesn’t feel so expensive and chaotic come time. Plus, maybe it helps them feel at and think of home). Got this in December to replace a Hamilton Beach that was a few months and a happy no of garbage. My husband is the coffee drinker, and while not at all a coffee snob he has lamented burnt tastes from Starbucks, and lackluster flavor from home devices. All while continuing to drink without making any changes. I got this for him for Christmas, and he questioned it at first due to price and still just being a coffee maker. But after trying it out, he likes it a lot. He has remarked on several occasions since December that it makes a very good cup of coffee. I am the primary coffee maker and I love how fast and quiet it is. It is even fun to watch, our kids get a kick out of watching the bubbles go up the inner tube when it is brewing. He likes having two settings for the warming plate. He has no complaints of a burnt taste. Brews at a proper tempurature. While it does not stop dripping if you pull the carafe away, it has a control to stop the drip, and it fully does this, whereas all our previous makers still dripped some. Simple and straight forward to use. No auto shut off, but for a home unit, how often do you brew more than. Is immediately needed? So shut off when you get your cup. A power light indicates it is on. Clean up is very easy too. No complaints here, still very pleased with it, and it is performing just as well as the first day.

   If you’re a brewmaster, barista, somebody who was retired with lots of time. This is the coffee machine for you. For the rest of us, including a dad with three kids. This is not an easy coffee machine. Additionally, it’s extremely overpriced. Recent sale has close to 50% off. That’s how I know it was overpriced. I bought this because I thought it was a simple coffee machine that would make really hot coffee. Most of the time the coffee is lukewarm. But what really annoys me with this machine? Is that after you watch the video on how to make coffee correctly? It’s a multiple step process that requires you to turn the machine off and on. Check the basket and do other things in order for you to be successful in the eyes of themanufacturer. I was better off with my pour over system

    The Technivorm Moccamaster is an excellent coffee maker. I makes fantastic coffee (probably close to the best possible for a simple drip style unit). HOWEVER… the price! How does one justify $300+ when there are so many cheaper options? If one of the following describes you, steer away from this coffee maker: you … Just want something to make your Folgers, Want something fancy (expensive) to keep up with the Joneses, Want cutting edge “technology,” Want lots of “features,” Don’t take good care of your possessions, Don’t keep things for many years, Want the best “deal” (not necessarily “value” which is more complicated) possible, Make coffee only occasionally (not every week), or of course Want a machine that will make hot chocolate, chai anything, cappuccino, or anything other than straight up high quality drip coffee. This does one thing, simply. It is very well made, in Europe, by well paid employees, and designed to last a lifetime if properly maintained. If it breaks, it is designed to be able to be FIXED with widely available parts unlike nearly every Chinese made small appliance on the market today. These qualities make for a great product but at a relatively high price. Now that we have that out of the way, here is my review of this product after a half year of use: I like my coffee flavorful and strong. I typically make one pot every couple of days, saving the unused coffee in the fridge to be used for iced coffee later. I believe it is advisable to make exactly one full pot at a time for best results. One pot is about 48oz or 6c. It says 10 cups on the water reservoir, so they must think each “cup” (of coffee) is about 4.8oz. There is also what appears to be liter measures, but I question the accuracy there. You certainly can put in less water and try to make a partial pot, but I have reservations about the quality of the results. At any rate, you get about 6c. of coffee for a pot. I’m always amazed and impressed how fast and quiet it works. Granted, my comparison is to my old, cheap, $12.99 coffee maker that gurgled and carried on for what seemed like forever. I love the Moccamaster for it’s quiet, smooth operation. Cleanup for me is to simply dispense with the #4 cone style filter and spent grounds (compostable), rinse the detachable parts, of which there are several, and leave to air dry. Not the easiest cleanup, but not bad at all. There are two switches only; both of which operate with a silky smoothness and a satisfyingly weighty metallic “click.” Flip the left switch to start brewing. The light on the switch will turn on signaling power. If you don’t flip it back (off), it will automatically do so in 90 minutes. The right switch controls the temperature of the heating plate (not the water heating element which always heats the water to optimal brewing temperature). Flip the switch one way for hotter coffee, the other way for somewhat less hot coffee. The idea here is that some like HOT coffee, but quality will be effected with time. The less hot setting will allow the coffee to stay fresh for the entire 90 minutes, if desired. I think the less hot setting is plenty hot, so I keep it there. The only other adjustable component is the brew basket. It can be set to “open,” “closed,” or “half way.” I usually just leave it open. If you close it for some reason, DON’T forget to open it before the next brew. Disaster!! (Trust me you will not make that mistake twice.) I’m not sure what the purpose of a user adjustable brew basket is (as opposed to one that automatically shuts off the flow when the carafe is removed). Supposedly the half way setting can be used when brewing a half pot. Also, closing it off at the beginning of brewing can allow the coffee to “bloom” briefly before opening it up for the remainder of the brew. One positive consequence of not having the automatic shut off is that the carafe doesn’t have to physically contact the brew basket which provides a cleaner look and no moving parts to keep clean. (Just don’t forget to slide it to “open” before brewing!) The construction is quite good. The main structure is heavy gauge metal, beautifully painted. Mine is matte black which hides the smudges and finger prints nicely. Other finishes, especially shiny ones, might take more care to look good. It says the heating elements are copper which will stay corrosion free as opposed to cheaper, failure prone aluminum elements in nearly all other coffee makers. The hot plate on which the carafe sits appears to be ceramic, looks very nice and is easy to wipe clean. The plastic parts are well made, but somewhat flimsy; definitely not commercial grade. If one is hard on one’s appliances, I could imagine breaking or cracking the brew basket, brew basket holder, water reservoir lid, or carafe lid. Of course all of these parts can be replaced if needed. The water reservoir itself is very sturdy (acrylic?). I wish the plastic end caps were metal, or at least better looking plastic. The Moccamaster’s style would be perfect in a modern, minimalist kitchen; but may not be everyone’s cup of tea. (er, you know what I mean) I love the design because it looks like no other coffee maker, serious but not fancy. They sell colors and finishes that could easily make this coffee maker the showpiece of a kitchen, if desired. (However, this particular model only is available in stainless or black.) Not too many complaints with this unit, but nothing is perfect. The flimsy plastics could feel and look more rugged, especially the end caps. Operation is a little bit of a process (removing and replacing the lid on the water reservoir, removing and replacing to lid on the brew basket, etc.). I’m fine with it, but some might feel it is a little tedious. Finally, my biggest problem is with the carafe. I do love it’s overall look and feel, but the handle is problematic. The plastic handle is attached to a metal band that holds it to the glass. The metal band is not tight enough to keep the handle from making the whole thing feel flimsy, especially when lifting and pouring a full pot. My old cheap coffee maker had a larger plastic handle piece that attached to the glass at two spots making it feed sturdy when pouring. However it didn’t look sleek like the Moccamaster’s carafe. Are looks more important than feel? Don’t know, but I wish I could have both. The other issue with the carafe is it’s inability to pour without dripping or even spilling slightly. I am a careful pourer, but I can’t get a clean pour for the life of me. Oh well, I always have a tea towel handy when pouring myself a cup to keep things tidy. In conclusion, the Technoverm Moccamaster is one of my favorite possessions, but it is not made for the masses. This somewhat elitist appliance may, simultaneously make you feel proud and guilty. But, if you truly love good, simply made coffee, as I do (and have deepish pockets); the pride and guilt will pass, and you will be left with a coffee experience you can savor for a lifetime.

    **UPDATE**: I am 4.5 years strong with this coffee maker and it still brews an incredible cup of coffee! Although, I am now on my 2nd replacement carafe since purchasing. The carafe glass is very thin and easy to break or shatter. Apparently I am too rough when it comes to washing dishes. I contacted the company thinking it was under warranty only to be disappointed in finding out it is not. So buyer beware. A new replacement carafe is quite expensive at around $45 on coffeemakers.us.com. Everything inside the coffee maker is under a lifetime warranty but of course the carafe is not. That might be the only negative about this coffee maker. I did months of research during COVID for a coffee maker seeing as everything was closed at the time and I couldn’t get my daily cup from the commercial brewer down at my local bodega. I kept coming back to this coffeemaker due to the highly rated reviews and finally took the splurge after justifying the high cost of it. If you’re on the fence about buying this due to the ridiculously high sticker price, don’t be. Overall it was worth the investment. It’s held up strong after daily use, with sometimes multiple pots a day. I recommend using a cleaning solution to run through once every 6 months. You can find it at your local grocery store cleaning aisle or just order a bottle off coffeemakers.us.com which is pretty inexpensive. It makes sure to clean out all the mineral deposits and gunk that builds up in it. I recommend doing this with ALL coffee makers regardless of brand. Although it may look fancy since I’ve never seen a coffee maker look the way the MoccaMasters do, I can assure you this coffee maker is as simplistic as it gets. If you’re looking for a coffee maker that has all the bells and whistles on it, from auto timers and shut offs, then this isn’t the one for you. The only thing I can say I miss is setting my coffee timer the night before and waking up to the aromas of a pot brewing. But that doesn’t give you the freshest pot of coffee possible. Water and grains sitting overnight in a coffeemaker isn’t going to produce the best cup of coffee. This coffee maker gets the pot hotter than any cup I’ve ever had which is a huge selling point alone. Pretty close to as hot as a commercial brewer. But the fact that this company only manufactures and sells these coffee makers means that they’ve perfected the one product they have and back it up with an impressive lifetime warranty! If something breaks with the components, they will fix it or replace the part. This is a machine that should last 10+ years, if not a lifetime. 🤞🏼 I suggest buying the model where the brew basket can close, open half way or open all the way. As I read some reviewers complaining about the grains not getting fully wet. I always start out my brew with the basket closed, will take a spoon and stir the hot water + grains to make sure they’re fully saturated before I open up basket to start pouring out. *** Also, you will NEED to buy a coffee bean grinder. I purchased one from Walmart (Hamilton Beach) for $15 and let me just say how impressive this thing is? I’m on year 15 with it and it still works the bees knees! An incredible, fresh cup of coffee starts with the beans and grinding them yourself is truly a must to get the best cup of coffee! I use to keep my beans in the freezer thinking it would keep them fresher but lately I’ve been preferring to keep them tightly sealed at room temp in my cabinet. It will take some time to figure out how much coffee grains to water ratio you like and that can differ on the beans you buy. Dunkin Donuts Original Whole beans are still my favorite and go too. I’ve tried so many other variety of beans but prefer a more light to medium cup and Dunks beans hit just right for me! All in all, this was well worth the investment and it makes a great cup of coffee! I am known to all my friends and family now as the “Coffee Connoisseur/Coffee Guru”. Nobody makes a better cup of coffee than me. Hahaha.

    After our old Braun coffeemaker stopped working, I did some research for a replacement. At first I was looking at the typical value priced coffeemaker’s as spending $299 expensive. But after reading the glorious reviews, I decided to visit the company’s website. From there, I called their customer service department and spoke to a knowledgeable technician who helped me select this exact model based on our usage. This coffeemaker uses standard #4 coffee filters and makes the best coffee that we ever made at home. When you consider that quality coffee beans are at least $12/lb. it makes sense to invest in a quality coffeemaker that comes with a 5 year guaranteed.

    So first, this coffee pot makes an amazing cup of coffee! It makes our crap costco coffee taste like it’s passed through the intestines of a small cat. If that is all you care about in your coffee and will do anything to get it, read no farther, the Moccamaster is for you! 5 stars all the way. So why do I give it 1 star, and really none if I could? They put a lot of effort into the science of brewing a perfect cup, but very little effort into executing their designs: The handle to the coffee pot, which is incredibly flimsy, is way too close to the pot itself. I have larger hands and get burnt EVERY TIME I grab the handle, there’s only about an inch between the handle and pot. It’s starting to get really old. I’m confident that the very first time they tested brewing a cup of coffee someone burnt their knuckles and no one seemed to care. It’s either that or they have child labor serving them their coffee. Bonus is I no longer have to wax my knuckles. The filter part CONSTANTLY overflows. We’ve learned you can’t make more than 6 cups at a time. Anymore than that and it can’t filter through fast enough to stay ahead of the drip and thus overflows the filter. Pretty much every pot we make ends up with grounds in the pot. See the attached pictures, you can see it is set to fully open, but it overflowed the filter and grounds went down into the pot, this happens every time we brew more than 6 cups. So we do 6 cups, then when the water completely filters through, we add 4 more cups of water, this is the only way to do more than 6 cups. These two things happen every day and are such an annoyance we’re actually retiring the Moccamaster in favor of our previous $39 Mr. Coffee.

I debated and researched these things until I finally dropped the money on this unit. I am so happy with it! I recommend it to anybody looking for a new maker.     I bought this machine over six years ago after doing a lot of research. I wanted the best drip coffee pot you could buy, and it needed to last a long time. I can confirm, this is the best drip coffee pot, and it has held up beautifully. A full pot of perfect drip coffee is ready 6 minutes after you turn it on. It is an easy machine to clean and nothing has broken on it. I clean and descale it every 100 pots of coffee, per their recommendation. This is easy to keep track of if you buy filters in a 100 pack. Just clean it every time you have to buy filters. It’s important to know that this is not a large capacity brewer. It is great for a household of 2-3 people. If you have company over, you could brew three full pots with this thing before a jumbo Mr Coffee maker could finish one pot, so it’s not really an issue. The only thing I would change is the drip stop. Mine has always dripped a little bit when the drip stop was closed. Not a big deal, but a little annoying. Overall, it’s the best coffee machine I’ve ever had, and I expect it to last many many more years.

    Overall coffee maker is good quality. Power switch burned up after about a year. Technivorm refused to sell me a replacement switch, and insisted that I ship it to them for repair at my expense. After shipping the repair would cost nearly $100 to replace a $5 switch which is why I left 1 star. When I pay several hundred dollars for a piece of equipment, I expect to be able to get replacement parts if/when they fail.

    We got this coffee maker a few years back. We absolutely love the minimalist style of it. We are a little disappointed in that they used cheap plastic for the filter receptacle. It doesn’t look cheap but it feels cheap. About the flavor, this coffee maker makes a decent cup of coffee… I don’t think it makes exceptional coffee, at least we didn’t experience the amazing flavor that the company raves about. To be fair, neither my husband or I are coffee experts. My biggest problem and the reason for the low rating is not with the product itself but with the Poot customer service. I contacted the company to let them know that one of the switches broke (it fell inside the coffee maker) they never contacted me about it. That tells me that they don’t stand behind the quality of their products. I think for the price that these items cost, they should prioritize customer service and they don’t.

    I actually picked up a unit from the coffeemakers.us.com Warehouse and it was in perfect condition. And not surprisingly, the quality of coffee brewed lives up to the hype. Pair it with a nice grinder and you’ll get a nearly perfect cup of coffee. It starts brewing in under 30 seconds and is done in less than 5 minutes. Very easy to clean as well.

    This may be more expensive than other drip machines, but you get what you pay for (it’s hand-built in the Netherlands..!!). The company, distributor (in Edmonton), and numerous online reviews touts that its easy to fix, and easy to get parts. So it should last a long time, and is easily reparable! In our times of cheap goods and high turnover replacements… this is a welcomed relief! The build quality is great, it brews very quickly, and makes very delicious coffee! Its also easy to clean. We had a Cuisinart before this, and can notice a definite taste difference. Its also not as big as some reviews make it up to be; its just “long” – but rather thin. The downsides? I suppose it doesn’t have many bells and whistles… like being programmable, clock, lights…etc… and it doesn’t “bloom” the coffee (we got the model that has a manual drip adjustment – so we just do it on our own…).     What led me to this brand of coffee maker was not wanting to buy a made in China machine – I’m trying to keep as much of our money as possible away from Chinese made products. Very little assembly needed, almost a ‘plug n play’ set-up. It comes packed quite well so there should be no worries about breakage during transit. Initial impressions are it seems to be very high quality and built to last. The 5yr warranty certainly helps with that assessment. The carafe seems a bit smaller than the ones I’m used to seeing for North America but that’s just an observation. With Covid who’s getting guests, right? We’ll see how that works with a crowd. The good thing is it brews quite fast, with minimal noise, and keeps the coffee at a perfect temp for 90 minutes. So far I’m very pleased with the performance and the coffee tastes great. I’m using up some ground Costco coffee I have, for now, but will switch to grinding beans when I need to restock. A burr grinder is recommended so there’s another purchase in my future.
    I’ve gotten over the sticker shock and am quite happy with the machine. If you can handle the price I’d say go for it!

    I have had this coffee maker for years, and I can’t even imagine using anything else. The only thing that bothered me, was filling the carafe with water and not being able to tell exactly how many cups I was getting. So today I did some measuring and turns out that the standard width of an electrical tape is exactly the difference between 4 cups and 6 cups. So now I’m using the bottom of the tape, or the top of the tape for my most standard amounts of water needed.

    If you like coffee, and are in the market for a new pot – look no further!! My husband and I went to a coffee roaster in our city and asked what the best coffee maker was on the market was and without hesitation the employee said this one! We registered for it for our wedding, and was gifted this! This has been the best coffee maker! Easy to use, clean. I love the manual and the measurement page to know how to make the perfect cup. It makes strong coffee, which is how we like it. I had always grown up with another brand, but after this one, I won’t go back!
