   “Exclusive packaging” is bubble wrap apparently. I reached out to Chemex and they indicated that it should come in a box so I’m not sure if coffeemakers.us.com is fulfilling orders with knockoff Chemex brewers. Since the order is fulfilled by coffeemakers.us.com, Chemex could not help me directly. I returned the first and the replacement is only bubble wrapped as well. Not sure if I’ll keep it.

   I’ve been doing coffee daily with a French press, a stop-top Mukka Express (Bialetti 6990 Mukka Express Cappuccino Maker, Polished Aluminum), and an Aeropress (Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker). I wanted something manual/compact to replace my 10-cup electric drip coffee maker that I haven’t touched in over a year. I picked up the Chemex because of its classic design, simple construction, honest materials (no plastic to be found, even in the packaging), and claimed quality. The process really does deliver the smooth and rich flavor it promises. It’s rewarding to slowly wet the grinds and watch them froth and grow as they bloom. In comparison, an automatic drip machine will leave grinds at the edges of the filter under extracted. Unlike my French press, there isn’t a single grain of grind at the bottom of my cup. I really can’t detect any bitterness. This carafe takes up much less counter space than my old 10-cup machine, and will brew plenty of coffee for a guest and myself. If you enjoy the craft aspects of coffee, this unit deserves to be in your kitchen.

   The chemex makes a good cup of coffee, but it’s a time consuming exercise. If you’re in a rush or don’t have time in the morning, it’s not something you will use often. To make a really good cup of coffee with the chemex takes at least 10-15 minutes, and a lot of people don’t have that luxury in the morning rush. That said, you can make an excellent cup o Joe with the chemex and a good grinder. It’s just a matter of preference.

   Decided to go with a chemex instead of a keurig, also bought a french press. I prefer the french press taste more then other methods…well on the unit it is stylish and works well, it’s still new so longevity is yet to be determined, but unless I drop it not sure what can break. Initially quality is a 5, only make what you need for the coffee will get cool fast unless you have a way to keep the unit warm. It definitely brews a “clean” well filtered cup, I feel I will use the french press more, but I like having it and will use it regularly, make coffee making fun, it is worth the extra effort 110%

    The one I got last year (5 stars, 1st photo) was sadly broken and I just received my new order today (last two photos). The quality of the glass of the new one is different from my previous one. It is from different mold and is less clear (the authentic one is clear and does not have the green tint). The surface looks “brushed” and not smooth, and it even has a bump on the edge. The bottom has “chemex” print instead of its embossed logo. The new one is going back to coffeemakers.us.com and I will order from a more reliable carrier. ———- My previous coffee maker stopped working finally after a few fixations. I decided to try Chemex as it is aesthetically appealing and plastic free. I also made a few coffee filters with muslin fabric. It flows differently from paper filters but is more environmentally friendly. And the coffee is just as perfect.

    With the Chemex Pour Over you are buying a classic design that just works. The design has not changed in decades,I guess you could really say “if it ain’t broke, why fix it?”. In addition to the Chemex I recommend getting a kettle, a scale to weight your coffee & water, and going to a local coffee shop where you can buy freshly roasted coffee. Coffee must be ground properly to ensure that there is no over/under extraction. Look up James Hoffmann on youtube for a good recipe/starting guide for the Chemex. He will point you in the right direction. Would buy again, would recommend to a friend.

    Hipster? Yeah sorta. A little involved? Yeah a bit. Good tasting coffee? Absolutely! There are endless videos of people using scales, timers and all this stuff. IMO you don’t need all the extra gear to brew unless you have some wildly sensitive tongue. I tried the timers and the scales, I couldn’t taste the difference, it’s great either way lol. Couple basic instructions. Get their filters, do the filter rinse, do the bloom first, and don’t stress on the rest honestly. Now you’ll notice getting a lid that doesn’t suck is (oddly) harder than you would think. I did this 4″ cork ball, works great for me! Sure it’s not made to be a lid, but whatever, looks nice, it’s cork and seals all but the pour channel.     Bought this to replace the Chemex I purchased in 1978 and gave to my daughter. That one was the true classic: heavy glass, with a thick bottom, giving it stability. I was disappointed when I opened the box of this one. Wish I’d sent it back. Thin, fragile glass. No stability. On my fourth use, I lifted out the filter, It tipped over and shattered. Worse: it was on a cooking surface. Tiny bits of glass all over. I am still sweeping them up. Cannot use my countertop. I’m too afraid of getting glass particles in food. Glass should be tempered if it comes into contact with heat, and for kitchen use. This was not cheap. I am furious beyond words. Chemex, your brand is now trash.

    I purchased a Chemex for my husband for Christmas. He loved it because coffee tasted smoother. Seven months into using it, it developed a hairline crack. I emailed Chemex about its warranty and was told they would only honor it if it was purchased directly from Chemex. Why in the world would anyone purchase it from a retailer then? So, disappointed about that so I will not be purchasing another especially if it doesn’t even last a year.

    So simple, such good coffee, so easy … I will never go back to expensive, wasteful pods, ever again. My 4 stars was due to the cleaning as you actually do need a bottle brush to clean thoroughly in my opinion in addition to the awkward design of the wood around the middle with a big knobby bead thing as pic shows I changed this out to putting some hair bands around the middle which fit my small hand better and was easier for me to pick up. Overall absolutely love this!

    They say this design is exhibited in a museum. I can believe it. After using every day for several months it is still a work of art. I bought it since I was sick of throwing money away on Keurig cups and the lousy coffee they produce. I have graduated to pour over via this Chemex. Yes it takes a few minutes but the coffee is so much better. I also bought a grinder so fresh ground coffee into the Chemex pour over some hot water and voila a great cup(s) of coffee. Slow down take a moment from your day and break the Keurig habit. Makes a big difference.

    I bought this as a gift and I was pleasantly surprised after we used it. I honestly have no complaints, and so far it seems to be pretty sturdy. Not difficult to clean, holds a good amount of coffee. Also! This arrived very well packaged and not at all damaged.

    Product worked fine for about a dozen uses. Coffee tasted alright–but I wouldn’t recommend using this for really expensive, fresh-roasted coffee because it does reduce the flavor profile significantly compared to a French press. Plus, the glass just broke after half a dozen uses, when I was pouring 200F water onto the grounds from my electric kettle. That’s 5F lower than the recommended temperature for brewing coffee, by the way, so not even max temp. Overall, not interested in a replacement. If it didn’t break and I wanted something without plastic to replace my typical coffee maker, I might try again. My stainless steel French press will work just fine, though, so I’ll stick with that.

    I’ve used the Chemex coffee maker a couple times now, so far so good. Pretty neat design and no issues using their square (natural) coffee filters. Review would be 5 stars if the collar didn’t come with green marks on it. The coffee maker works and I’m going to try to remove the green marks myself so I don’t have to deal with a return, just annoyed that I have to remove marks on something that is brand new.

    Works very well. I bought a permanent filter but for ease of cleaning i wet and squeeze out a paper towel. Fit it inside filter and add coffee to that. When done life out towel and toss. Rinse filter. No hassle with grounds. Also don’t spend money unless you want to buy a lid. A small glass mixing bowl works fine see pic.

    Oh I love it! I probably should have gotten the chemex coffee filters but regular filters are working fine for now. My coffee is delicious! Smoother and less bitter than the French press coffee I’ve always drank. I got a little rubber lid and cozy to keep my coffee warm (I love a long lazy morning on my days off where I make a whole pot and refill my cup over the course of a couple hours) and they work very well! I am so happy with my chemex. I should have gotten one a long time ago! And it’s so easy to clean and beautifully simple to boot!

    I use the Chemex for a perfect iced coffee. So simple and deliciously clean tasting. I love it! -I grind fresh beans very fine. (A coarser grind makes a lighter, weaker tasting coffee. Not to my liking.) -Place a genuine Chemex filter inside and swirl some of the hot water around the filter, allow to drip through and then pour out. This removes some of the brown paper taste and warms the carafe. -Dump freshly ground coffee beans into filter. Allow kettle to boil and settle down a bit. Swirl and pour hot water over coffee, allow to drip and repeat until filled. The 6 cup point is right at the bottom of the wood collar. -Cover. I use a Charles Viancin pumpkin silicone cover (4 inch size). The Chemex glass cover doesn’t make sense to me. It’s round and doesn’t extend to the spout area. The silicone cover has a rippled edge and pushing it down slightly, it gets right into the spout. See my pics. -Cool down a bit and then place into fridge. Chill overnight. In the morning, I pour it over a glass of ice and it’s so tasty! Makes a gorgeous hot coffee maker for dinner parties, too. I recently watched the original Rosemary’s Baby and they were using one. Hasn’t changed a bit!
