Personally, I love whole bean coffee, but grinding whole bean coffee fresh every time you make a pot of coffee… Ain’t no body got time for that! It would cut into my morning wall stare, an obvious necessity. You can set this the night before and it will grind and brew at your desired time. WOWOW! It’s easy to set.. I didn’t even read the instructions. Just pleased with the purchase and even more pleased that I didn’t buy my other option for 3 to 4 TIMES more of the price. **Side note – I really dislike K-Cups**

   When I first started using this product, I loved it. I enjoyed the reusable grinds filter, the built in grinder itself, the overflow safety, etc. The features were all very convenient. However, after no more than a month of continuous use, I noticed that the machine was leaking the freshly brewed coffee at every brew. Not a lot, but enough to soak the heating plate and bottom of the pot. I thought perhaps I was using it wrong, not cleaning the whole thing frequently enough, or some other simple mistake. So I started cleaning it – thoroughly – after every use. I started double checking the pot placement to make sure it was aligned under the drip point. I put more time and energy into making sure I was using the brewer correctly than I ever did just making coffee. Nothing worked. I checked the product FAQ, watched video tutorials on how to clean it (just in case I was missing something) and nothing I did could stop the leak. I’m now several months into ownership and have simply resorted to placing a sheet pan under the brewer to catch the leak. Even this isn’t a perfect system because the heat from the plate causes the leaked coffee to splatter and the pot itself drips the leaked coffee when you go to pour it so I inevitably end up with coffee spilled on my countertops every time. All said and done, the machine works, but so consistently poorly that it’s become more trouble than it’s worth and I’m now hunting for a new/better machine only several months into owning this one. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more or hunt a little harder for one that won’t become a perpetual headache.

   I don’t need some fancy coffee maker. But why can’t they make a good standard drip coffee maker. It makes fine coffee. But the display is not backlit, it’s dark gray text on a gray background, and super small. If you’re over 40 you’ll need to have a magnifying glass next to it. The buttons are laid out in a way for you to make mistakes. Rather then auto being next to on, auto clean is next to on. I’ve hit auto clean a few times when I meant to hit auto. Also it’s easy to hit auto clean instead of on. There is not light indicator for auto mode. Just a small text in the bottom. Coffee is fine but it’s a pain to use.

   I broke my carafe and was using a Mr coffee carafe with the old top. That was very frustrating for me because the lid didn’t click into it. I googled Black & Decker replacement carafes because the one for this machine was discontinued and this one showed up at Walmart. I bought it knowing that I could just take it back if it didn’t work. Much to my surprise it works perfect (no leaking) with this coffee maker. This is the one you want to buy if you break your carafe on this particular coffee machine

   We have had this machine for a couple of years now. It keeps producing great hot coffee with every brew and still looks brand new. It takes 15 minutes to brew a 12 cup pot and should be cleaned with vinegar and water on a monthly basis. We have forgotten and clean it once every three months and it still makes coffee that tastes amazing. This machine has a preprogrammed timer to wake up to coffee if you choose. It is about a 3 out of 10 noise level and makes the whole house smell good enough to get everyone out of bed!

   Black & Decker Mill & Brew. Oddly, the nipple that dispenses the coffee into carafe does not center the carafe. It’s offset and the coffee enters the pot through the slits on the top of the lid…. are you kidding me Black & Decker? I ordered the 1st one from Home Depot and a second from coffeemakers.us.com just to see if I got a lemon the first time. Nope. Same identical unit with the same offset. Does anyone else have this issue? I noticed the issue because every now and then I hear a sizzle, you know, the sound you hear when liquid hit the hot base. I do not pour coffee until brew is complete yet liquid somehow drip to hot base and caused sizzle sound. That’s what prompted my investigation and discovered the offset. I called B&D, and customer service said they will send a new unit once they are in stock. Purchased 1/13/21. I will update this review once I receive a new unit. Hope the replacement carafe fits properly. We shall see. coffeemakers.us.com does not allow returns on this product. Update: B&D sent a refund for the unit and explained it had been discontinued.

   Bought this after our 12 year old Cuisinart kicked the bucket. We didn’t need anything so high-end and nabbed this little Black-and-Decker when we saw it on sale after the holidays. BTW, total research nerds here–we probably looked at all the models you’ve looked at before coming to this review. And like you, we clicked on all the “1 star” reviews just to see what the fuss was about. So here you are and here we are spilling the beans (ha ha, dad joke). Folks, this machine is straight up the pits. Leaked everywhere, every single time, as you can see from the picture (and no, we don’t add nutritional yeast to our coffee…the pandemic has made us loopy but not that loopy…yet). Not a big deal, because we figured that we’d call the company and work things out–it was less than 2 weeks after we’d bought it, after all. That was an adventure. The customer service is…weird. The representative lectured me about McDonald’s and not buying domestic cars and railed on about how my state’s elected officials were making decisions that hurt a lot of people. Ummm…I reminded him I was just there about a coffee machine, sir. Well, they didn’t have any replacement models with a grinder but could send me one without a grinder (basically a much cheaper model, without refunding me the difference. Also…who can live without a grinder these days?). So I took door number two–the refund option. Holy heck. To get that refund you have to basically destroy the machine, send a bunch of emails and they will MAIL you a CHECK within 6-8 weeks. Like it’s 1999, I guess??? Oh, and also boo hoo for your coffee because unless you are a superhero (I am not) you will obviously need to caffeinate yourself sometime before those 6-8 weeks are up. Time for this family to look for another Cuisinart I guess. And nope, I don’t get any kickbacks from ’em (would be nice, though, if anyone from the company is reading this hellooo!). I just like a brand without any foolishness, like coffee should be.

   I have no idea why anyone would complain about this machine. It’s super easy to use and easy to clean and produces a great cup of coffee. I was always hesitant about buying a machine with a built in grinder because I assumed it would require too much cleaning but not this guy. You can remove the filter basket as well as the interior basket with the shower head so you can make sure everything is squeaky clean before you make coffee again. Super easy. Also Black & Decker makes a good product. My previous coffee maker was a B&D basic bitch model and I had it for over 10 years at least. Over all, great product and worth the money.

    For YEARS we had been waking up early, grinding our own coffee, and doing a pour over. Just to get that strong coffee taste and never trusted coffee makers. UNTIL NOW! Trust me you need this! It’s amazing. We program this every night and fill it with beans/water, in the morning at the designated time it does all the work for us and we wake up to the BEST coffee. You have to play around with the bean to water ratio alittle bit depending on how strong you want it. It comes with a tiny scooper and we do 7 scoops and fill up water to level 7. It’s so easy and has saved us so much time and no more coffee grounds everywhere!

    I love this coffee maker. But it has a few issues hence why it can’t have 5 stars. First of all if you’re using the built in coffee beans grinder , which is amazing feature, it does great job as long as you grinding at least for 4 cups of coffee and up. Any smaller amount of beans the grinder won’t grind enough, it’ll have large pieces of beans that won’t break and coffee comes out weak and messy. Second thing is that I purchased this machine in October, by January there’s already couple of rusty spots. Inside the coffee beans basket and couple on the hot plate. And I don’t treat this machine differently than the one we had previously for 15 years, that until the last day had no rust. Otherwise I love everything about this coffee maker. I also want to highlight how easy it is to clean it.

    I am disappointed with my first grind/brew coffeemaker experience. Some of the ‘pros’ with this machine are also its flaws: – Grinder is inside the basket filter- makes for a super-fresh grind, but also makes it impossible to use paper filters, and this goldtone filter is not terribly good. I wind up with more sediment than I’ve had with other goldtone filters. – Maybe I’m just getting old, but to me this pot has too many parrs and one big design flaw. Not only is there the carafe, grind basket and grind basket housing, there is also a basket cap that is attached, not to the basket, but to the lid of the machine. All parts get filthy daily and must be cleaned, and if I forget to take the small cap out of the dishwasher and reattach it to the lid, the coffee won’t brew the next morning, even with basket, beans and water in place. There is also an open gap between the basket housing and the raised lip and cap where bean bits can drop from the dirty cap right into the water reservoir if you’re not super careful.

    I really wanted a grind to brew all in one but this one just doesn’t do it for me. The machine was incredibly easy to set up and program and the first morning I was excited to try my coffee. The excitement was over fast. The first cup was very very weak. I had only done the strong brew setting so I tried the strongest setting the next day. Still pretty weak. Ok so then day 3 I brewed 3.5 cups of coffee but used 5 spoon fulls of whole beans. Much better but now I’m having to use more coffee beans to make a decent cup of coffee? I realized the machine was grinding so aggressively that it sent the ground coffee into the top part of the lid so all of the coffee wasn’t actually getting brewed. That’s prob half a TBSP worth of waste! The other issue was the grounds were making their way into the coffee every day! I read the manual and no matter what I still got grounds in my cup every day. Sadly I had to return this and go back to my old coffee pot.

    Your coffee house won’t miss you, but you may arrive after your first cup when you start using this B&D mill & brew! I was (kinda) hoping to get that coffee house flavor with this. I figure it’s a “regular” drip coffee maker, with a grinder. It pretty much is. No blooming, no rain shower brew head so get the best beans that you can. Because those are what makes the cup. I have been playing around with beans for some time now, since getting this coffee maker & I actually came across the ones which make the brew house coffee that I have been trying to make at home (see review elsewhere here). The pot helps, but it’s the beans! “I don’t want a decent cup of coffee. I want a great cup of coffee”. Before finding the right coffee (I’m not done by any means). The bottom line is that it’s about the beans, & so few miss the mark. I was only rating this machine at about a 3.5. It behaves very well, & the nearly direct brew is good. My 12 dollar drip does that. I really like the flavor that comes from the brews on this B&D. I don’t like that you can’t add a paper filter, as I “found” it helps with reducing cholesterol, but I can actually. You don’t always have to grind in the unit. You can pre grind. you beans. I am happy that I purchased this one, over the “other” popular one. As you can hear from the video, this really is super quiet! Which was one of the factors in it’s purchase, the other was that the path is more direct, after grinding. Which gives you all of the oils & flavor. Even simple beans taste decent. For the most part it grinds up all of the beans (and quickly), leaving only a few on top sometimes. You can use the 6 grind for a four if you’d like, which will give it more grind time, but often I think it should stop sooner. Strength settings. When on max, it tends to get close to over flowing the grounds (grinds) into the pot, so be careful there. If you’re trying to extract as much as you can, you may want to find something else, or use the 6 scoops for 4 grind & hope it works better for you. Clean up isn’t bad. It does take WAY more time than a basket. I compost my grounds, but can’t get everything out. There are less grounds or dust than other machines, but there are more crevices on this. Overall I am very happy that I picked this Black & Decker Mill & brew machine up. I have a bunch of B&D stuff in my house, & now I have some fresh B&D coffee to start my day with. Who doesn’t like a little to start their day? It’s a twelve cup carafe, so it’s large compared to the 5 cup units I usually buy. For those who want more control over the amount of coffee they use. You can grind 4 but add any amount of water. It grinds on one setting, but always brews what’s in the tank. Which is an easy way to overcome the extra strong overflow mentioned above. Anyhow, bottom line after using a few bags of beans. I am very glad that I went with this Black & Decker Mill & Brew coffee maker. I really was leaning towards two other ones, as well as a commercial maker, but saw this one suggested so pondered it for nearly a month. Stop pondering & get the cup of coffee you deserve. Sunday’s breakfast is so much more delightful with a little B&D brewing in the kitchen. Oh, one more thing. I detest the translucent side fill window. They (and everyone) have to make it darker). The second pot is okay, the condensation marks where you were at the last time.

    I rarely review things we buy, but this coffee maker is insanely good. It replaced a Cuisinart Grind N Brew that died after a number years. This Black+Decker model’s grinding mechanism is contained in the filter basket (vs a separate grinding container,) so you have half as many items to clean after every brew. Spending 3 minutes a day cleaning my automatic coffee maker is certainly a first world problem, but it is nice to not have to do it now. The grinding mechanism is also substantially quieter; perhaps half as loud as the Cuisinart. I would say the Black+Decker is louder than a dishwasher when grinding, but not by a lot. I think the machine looks good and is logical to use. It’s mostly plastic and very light, but for every ounce of mass it gives up to heavier materials, it makes up for in good engineering. It’s clear that the design and R&D teams spent a lot of time on this product. And lastly, the biggest surprise of all is that it brews the strongest, best cup of coffee I can remember enjoying. I don’t have a great explanation for this. Other than the grinds staying where they are ground as opposed to being dumped into the filter basket after being ground, the beans are treated basically the same as in the Cuisinart. The filter basket on the Black+Decker is deeper and smaller diameter, so maybe the water traveling through a deeper bed of beans has something to do with it. Anyway, very happy with this machine, especially considering the price. I almost want to buy another one just to keep around as a spare.

    I like the ability to pour a cup while it’s still brewing and the ability to grind beans or use pre ground coffee. The timer capability is nice to, you can set it to brew a pot in then morning before you wake up. And getting out of bed to the smell of fresh coffee helps me wake up in the morning. It’s extremely easy to use, after about 10-15 min I was able to set everything up to how I like It. And the price is the bet part. A coffee maker with all of these features would cost $100-$200 at a box store. Would highly recommended. Easy to clean as well, the grinder and inside parts can all be taken out and washed or put in dishwasher.

    I love this coffee maker. Things I love: the brew basket, basket holder and brew head all come out for cleaning. The coffee is very hot. It’s easy to set up and use.
    When I was reading the reviews, I hesitated because of complaints about how hard it is to clean. This is one of the easiest coffee makers to clean. The brew basket takes the same amount of effort as any reusable brew basket, even with the grinder blades in the basket. My opinion, it’s a great machine for the money.

    We purchased this in April of 2023. It has never worked well, and as of April 2025 we are looking for a replacement. Edit: I forgot to mention the reason we are looking to replace it: now, almost every day, the pot is leaking water. It’s not spilling coffee. The clean fresh water is puddling from somewhere under the pot. We aren’t spilling it and we can’t figure out where, how, or why it is leaking. We are looking to replace it before we get electrocuted from a plugged-in appliance sitting in a puddle of water. (See photo. We filled the pot to “10” but when it brewed, it only filled to “6”. The rest pooled under the coffee maker and completely soaked a kitchen towel to dripping.) We previously had a Black & Decker coffee maker for years. The design has significantly changed. 1. The body of the coffee maker wraps around most of the carafe. This directs all the steam up the middle of the front of the coffee maker, causing the following problems: A. The steam messes up the coffee maker’s computer and turns it off in the middle of brewing or sometimes afterwards so you find the whole coffee pot has gone cold. B. The “stainless steel” buttons on the front are silver plastic that quickly became completely stained brown from coffee steam. This cannot be cleaned. (See photo) 2. The design of the coffee basket is AWFUL. A. The handle of the basket always gets snagged up when we are disposing of the filter and flips soggy coffee grounds all over the floor and trash can. B. If you remove the handle to avoid this, you can’t remove the basket from its’ place. We tried that and had to put it back on. C. The filter’s pace of dripping the coffee into the pot doesn’t match the machine’s pace of putting hot water into the filter basket. So the filter gets super full, and grounds always go up and around the filter and end up in the coffee pot. Yum! D. The “sneak-a-cup” technology is a little silicone washer/seal that holds the coffee in the basket when you remove the carafe if it is still brewing. This has disappeared during normal washing, twice. So now the coffee just freely pours out if it is not completely done brewing. Don’t buy it. Find something else!

    I love this self grinding & brew coffee maker when I first got it several years ago. It was so convenient and perfect. However the 2 in 1 basket design has a flaw, the screen will eventually tear, coffee grinds will start to go into the pot and you will be scrambling to find the replacement part if you don’t want to end up buying another new machine. I was lucky, Black & Decker still made the part ($18.48 + $7.50ship). I ordered several just in case they discontinue it later. However looking at the comparable Cuisinart self grind & brew coffee maker, it has a superior design. The grinder is separate in its own housing and the coffee basket is separate. They give you a permanent basket to reuse and you even have the option to use paper filters if you want. If I had to do it again, I would buy the Cuisinart, which is also much cheaper in price.

    We ordered this coffee maker back in August of 2021 and have used it nearly every day since. It is programmed to grind and brew at 7:30 AM and a full 12-cup pot of freshly brewed hot coffee is ready for me by the time I have to walk upstairs and begin my workday at 8:00 AM. Some days multiple pots are made depending on who happens to be home that day. There is a warming plate keeping the coffee hot, which automatically turns off after 120 minutes. if there’s still a decent amount of coffee left in the pot, I’ll sometimes turn the grinder option off and turn the machine back on, which resets the 120 minute timer. The biggest, and really only downside I can say about this coffee maker is that after over two years of heavy use, the screen in the filter basket has developed small tears. Over time, this has gradually allowed more and more coffee grounds to escape the filter basket and find their way into the pot. Trying to find a replacement filter for this has proven to be next to impossible. After searching all over the internet and checking with Black & Decker, this part always appears to be on back order. This is the reason why I did not give this product a 5-star review. We will continue using this machine until the time comes when amount of escaped coffee grounds becomes enough of an inconvenience and calls for action, which the only option at this point would be to purchase this machine all over again or going with an alternative. I may very well be looking into the latter just to avoid this issue of having to replace the filter basket in the future. That all being said, this unit has never once given us an issue other reviewers have mentioned about it only brewing a cup’s worth of coffee from a completely filled reservoir. Not even once has anything like that ever happened with ours.

First of all I do see what everyone was talking about with the condensation on the display clock after Brewing it is weird but it does absolutely nothing to the display I’ve gotten in the habit to wipe it off as soon as it’s done Brewing.     This does NOT come with a “reusable filter” as listed. The instructions refer only to using a basket-style paper filter. – I saved the reusable mesh filter from our last coffee pot and that fits this pot’s filter holder and works fine. But that’s why “often bought together” in the listing shows a box of paper filters and a metal filter. – We stopped using paper filters years ago, so it would be a deal breaker if our used metal filter didn’t work. The photo on the left I’m posting is what the UNLIT display screen looks like in our kitchen. That’s all the light available in the place where we have the pot. The time can be made out (barely), but nothing else. The photo on the right is the deceptively bright photo in the coffeemakers.us.com listing. The things you need to see besides the time are if Auto is on or not, how long the coffee’s been made, the 1-4 cup feature, and the PM you have to see to know if you’re setting the time in the correct part of the day. Yesterday I could never manage to see if the PM was on, so I just guessed at it. – Today with a flashlight held close to the display, I could finally see the PM and the other tiny things on the display. One more complaint – It doesn’t beep. I didn’t know coffee pots were made anymore that don’t beep when they’ve finished brewing. You just have to get used to how long it takes and check if it’s finished or not. So this is a BARE BONES pot that we’re disappointed with. We’re keeping it because the coffee comes out fine and we don’t want to hassle with returning it. But this is the most we’ve paid for a coffee pot and we are unpleasantly surprised that it’s a step Down from what we’re used to. Not recommended. Pay a few more dollars for pots that you can be more sure about from the details in the listings. – BUT keep in mind – even the details can be wrong, like this listing which says it has a reusable filter. —

    I’ve noticed there are two kinds of reviews here… the ones from just after purchase that love the machine and the ones, like me, who come back within months of purchase when the units defects become a problem. Based on the many negative reviews, it is obvious there were several defects in the design of this coffee maker. It looks like one was addressed (the steam issue that one reviewer fixed with a bottle cap) but others weren’t. There was a time that Black & Decker meant quality, durability, and a company that stood behind their products. Sadly, these words are no longer in the vocabulary of the company providing the products customer service. This is the SECOND unit of this model that we have had that sprang a leak from the bottom of plain waiter after 6 months of use. With the first unit, I went through the reviews to see all the different fixes & tried them. With no success at stopping the leak. I was really hoping the first was a one off or, that any defects had been addressed because we really liked the unit but, sadly it was the same thing with this one. It was purchased on 11/2/16, delivered 11/4/16 – cleaned, put into service on 11/7/17. It began leaking just like the first unit did on 6/16/17. In attempt to resolve the issue prior to leaving a review, I contacted the customer service email that pops up on several of the other poor reviews. Customer Service Rep, Jeff with Spectrum Brands (Thread:3399073) informed me yesterday that because I had the coffee pot in a ‘commercial setting’, it voided the warranty (of which I do no recall see on the inserts included with the machine) & told me to contact the Seller knowing full well the Seller won’t do anything after 30 days. #1 This is a 3 person office & only 2 people drink coffee regularly. I will occasionally have 1 cup, #2 *ONE* pot of coffee was brewed per day, 5 days a week… in no way overusing the item. #4 The unit is not sitting in a commercial area to be exposed to anything that would be considered detrimental to the machine. #5 The machine was well maintained throughout its very short life. I’ve included a photo showing where the unit is kept & how I’ve had to start placing paper towels underneath to catch the leak so that it doesn’t affect our other machines sitting nearby. On the other end of the spectrum, we have a old Mr. Coffee unit in our break room for 6 -8 production employees that is exposed to dust, multiple pots per day, little to no maintenance, and rough handling that has outlasted BOTH units of this model by many, many years. We also have a second-hand Keurig that gets used a few times a week for single cups after the initial pot for the day is done. Both of those show the quality & durability expected of their brands. So despite loving this particular model, we will now be going with a completely different company for any future purchases.

    I like this coffee maker. I read a little a lot of reviews and decided on this one. It has made me great tasting coffee. I have to say that when you have to use paper filters, I don’t think it’s the coffee makers fault that they collapse and grounds get in the coffee. The water does come out into the filter basket differently in some coffee makers, but I think it’s how they package the filters. They are tiered and when you get down to the bottom, they are wider and like stretched out so you have to press them to the side of the filter basket so they don’t collapse.

    Loved it as much as I love my expresso it successfully replaced my all in one espresso -latte -cappuccino maker as I am only intersted in my black coffee had to use a step down voltage for American / Canadian use in India …that cost me as much as the machine cost but the output is a perfect cup of joe each time , moreover I knew it before I bought it so no hard feelings for that😉 …grinds beans to a perfection and is quite user friendly even though with a professional touch !!
