   This press works well. It even works with finely grounded coffee, which is what I use. The strainer is really good and keeps out all of the finely grounded coffee.    I gave coffeemakers.us.com & Bodum $20, and they gave me diarrhea in a box for a french press. This is the worst designed french press I’ve ever bought. Before I bought this piece of junk, I’ve only owned maybe 4-5 french presses in my life. All were close to $20-25. All were relatively similar in design, with only minor differences in how the plastic retainer handle locked and unlocked the glass beaker in place and with only minor differences in the measurements of all the components, so I never curiously investigated the design of them before purchasing a new one after the very first french press purchase. But this french press is quite different in the worst ways, and it has me thinking that Bodum should fire the employee that submitted this design and the employees that approved the design all the way from this french press designer’s immediate boss to the employee that approves designs for manufacturing. Two dumb design features exist with this french press, which were not present with previously used french presses. First, the glass beaker is nearly impossible to remove to clean where the contact occurs between the outer part of the glass beaker and the inner part of the plastic retainer handle. Dumb design feature. Second, the top lid locks into place with no possibility of turning it, which is never anything, while using other french presses, that I’ve thought, “Boy, I sure wish this top lid would lock into place to completely prevent me from turning the lid.” Second dumb design feature. The flavors of the brewing coffee and heat are more easily retained inside the mixture inside the glass beaker, when you can turn the top lid, so the part that does not have the mesh screen is directly behind the recession of the pour spout. Lesson learned. From now on, I will inspect the design of any commonly used product, before assuming it’ll be mostly the same as any other previously bought, because it’s within a similar price range as previously bought similar products.

   Pro: This french press is very easy to use and clean. I loved it so much that I bought another one. Con: The plastic piece that holds the screen onto the plunger can easily break. This one flaw can completely ruin your french press so be extremely careful. Other information: I personally like to grind my own whole beans when using this product to ensure that it’s not too fine. I find that store-bought grounds sometimes does not separate as well, and I end up with grounds in my coffee.

   Just know the 8 cups is measurement not coffee cups. it does say serves 2-3, or 4 people, I didn’t catch that until I tried it out and went to write this review. But still I like it. Drinking some now mmmmm. So far it works great. No cracks during shipping or brewing. the thing I dont like is that the mesh does NOT reach the bottom. It stops at the top of the black plastic on the bottom. But still works good to me. Its all about preference I guess, if u like to squeeze out ur coffee grinds this is not for u unless u put a lot in so it could be squeezed. You can see in the picture its size and the gray line where the mesh stops

    As pictured- a critical part of this French press is made of plastic. When tightened the metal threads of the rod break the piece and the entire French press becomes inoperable because the filter press can no longer be tightened on to the end of the rod. I really liked this French press until it broke and I realized that this very important, small piece had been made of plastic. Now I just feel like the whole thing is cheep, and who knows what else would have broken if I had owned it for longer than a month or two

    This product has been great. I make my own coldbrew coffee. I was using a much smaller unit that would only fit one bottle of my 28oz. coldbrew witch meant I had to clean the grounds out each time I used it. However I wanted to filter large batches of my brew so I could just grab and go from the fridge. I use 28oz. Gatorade bottles that I saved, No heat to brew (fridge to chill) and no paper filters, recycled single use plastic bottles. With this Press I’m able to filter about 5-6 bottles of my brew with out washing out the grinds. The fridge in the picture is my basement coffee fridge( I drink a lot of coffee). Because of this French press and the one I used before. I’ve reused these plastic bottles hundreds of times each and they still seal very well.

    About 10 months or so after getting my Bodum the dreaded broken plastic tab issue hit, making the plunger useless. I contacted Bodum customer support via their website, and got a polite reply the next day asking for proof of purchase, a photo, and my shipping address. Great. I provided this the same day, and then…crickets. I waited a week before following up in the same Zendesk ticket thread. Nothing. Again followed up three days later. Nothing. I then waited another week before writing again. That was a week ago, and still nothing. It’s really a shame when for the sake of saving a few dollars companies are so short-sighted as to poison a relationship forever. I’ll never even consider a Bodum product again…and all because they wouldn’t honor their stated warranty and send me a simple replacement plunger. This press worked fine before it broke, and given that all French presses work pretty much the same I’d advise going with one that doesn’t have a known design defect (or at least with a company that doesn’t ghost its customers).

    I wouldn’t say it’s a top-of-the-line press, but for $20 I’d buy it again. In my opinion, Bodum is a pretty reliable brand, and this press seems to hold up pretty well. It retains heat for a decent amount of time, cleans decently enough, and makes coffee. I reserve 5 stars for items that go above and beyond. That being said, if I could have a wishlist of features here’s what I’d include: *removable glass body. The body itself is not removable for cleaning and is all one body. Because the handle is attached to the glass body, some of the rogue grinds found their way stuck in that tiny joint. Not a big issue, since it’s mainly cosmetic and I keep this in my office cubby. *better filter. The filter isn’t really all that great. Sediment sometimes slips through between the walls and the plunger. In this case, it just means that I don’t drink the very last of my coffee. Like I said: Good Price. Good enough features. Would buy again.

    I was not compensated for this review. I love coffee but I had never had it from a French press, and have been wanting to try it for a while. I was not sure on which one to get. After researching, I found Bodum Chambord was consistently ranked in the top 5. I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend $40 on something I might not like. I was at my local coffee shop and they had the Brazil for sale. I figured it must be decent if it’s a Bodum and my local shop is selling it. I bought it on coffeemakers.us.com for under $20 and am loving every cup. It’s super easy to use and clean. I have not had any issues with grounds in my coffee as I use a coarse grind and go very slow when I press. I absolutely love how the coffee tastes and don’t think I can ever go back to drip coffee. Full disclosure I have only had this about a week and have only cleaned by hand. If it shatters in a week I will update the review.

    I noticed it a little when I first received it the latter part of December 2023. I use the single one only a few times a month but noticed the last time I use it there was a large amount of coffee around the base and I thought I was the one who spilled it. I tested it this morning and you can see by the photo that it’s leaking from inside the base. Couldn’t find a troubleshooting option so emailed the company and I will adjust based on there response.     I was looking for a compact French press for my morning caffine kick, this does the trick wonderfully! It’s easy to use, easy to clean and makes a great cup of coffee. I will say it seems a little pricey considering the size, it might be worth it if this lasts a long time (fingers crossed) but if you make coffee for two I’d recommend going a size up.

    I’ve purchased 6 of these in the past 10 years. We learned to dedicate a specific place in the upper rack in our dishwasher for it, so we’re breaking them less often. That said: things happen. The threaded rod on the latest one is much shorter than the previous. This makes it very difficult to loosen the plates and filter mesh so water can get between them in the dishwasher without it falling off completely. We have a couple spares from previous years, so we’re trashing this one, and using the old one. Yes, I made sure the plastic sleeve is up as far as it will go.

    I bought the 51 ounce size, and This is a great French Press. It works well, is well made and cleans up easily. The only slight annoyance is that the handle attaches at the top of the beaker by an intrusion into the cylinder (instead of a band around the beaker like many other manufacturers do) which requires a slight finesse of the plunger when you insert it. Not a big deal, but it is a slight annoyance. It also explains why this is one of the cheapest priced french presses of the 51 ounce size I’ve seen. Well worth the price.

    I’m kind of torn about writing this. I used it as a French press only a few times, then it became my cold brew pitcher. It worked very well for both, and I’m glad I own it. But, I don’t clean it often. Every now and then, after enough coffee drips down the outside, I give it a go. I’m pretty careful handling it, since it is glass, and I’ve never had a problem…till the last time. It broke as I was putting the handle back over the rim, and did a little damage to me. Pictures are attached. Like I said, I’m pretty careful when I take it apart, and I’ve done it many times. This could have been a lot worse on my fingers than it was. One cut that still bleeds if unbandaged after 4 days, and two little nicks. Again, it could have been much worse. So, while it’s a nice unit…if you’re a “clean freak”…this is not the one for you. You will hurt yourself.

    I received my Bodum Brazil French press coffee maker 51 oz, 1.5 Liter last Friday. We were so excited to use it! While cleaning it, I noticed one of the filtering pieces of plastic was broken. It doesn’t effect the coffee as far as I can tell, but I’m disappointed that my brand new product has this flaw 🙁

    I paid around $16 for this amazing product, and was having a hard time deciding which size. I went with the smallest one as I only drink a cup a day. Thennnn I bought this. I wish I had bought the 32oz, which was on sale for $16 as well. I used to drink French press and then lost mine in a move. I had been drinking drip or kcup coffee for the last year for convenience. My FIRST cup was like eating a home cooked meal after eating MRE’s for the last month. I could instantly (and actually) taste the coffee. Within a week, I was making myself two cups every morning, it was too good. Honestly not much of a time difference either. Just throw in a spoonful and some hot water. I enjoy the 4-5 minute anticipation.. that satisfying push on the filter. Then good to go. Please buy this and change your morning to enjoy the cup for a few minutes.

    My wife and I love French press coffee and make it every morning. She didn’t like the aesthetic of our stainless steel press and wanted to try something glass. I ordered this Bodum–it seemed well reviewed. We loved it for the first dozen or so uses. It’s more compact than our stainless steel one, a little easier to clean, and definitely less of an eyesore on the counter. But then I was making coffee one morning and an enormous chunk of glass in the front section simply fell off. You will see it in the images. I was standing right next to the press when it happened with my hands on it (the cycle was almost complete). Fortunately, years of playing video games prepared me for this moment (and little else). I was able to whip my hands away without suffering any burns–only a little coffee got on my fingers. The glass did peel away in one big chunk so thankfully nothing shattered and scattered. No injuries. But there could have been. I’m not sure if it’s a manufacturing defect or simply poor quality, but I might consider other options if I were you. We’ve gone back to our double-walled stainless steel and won’t ever try glass again.

    The small french press I was using for my breakfast tea began to age and rust, so I tried this small single-size french press. This did not work for me and I ended up returning two of them. The first I returned because the bottom plastic base came broken, the second I returned because ultimately it did not work for how I wanted to use it: with fine leaf breakfast tea. I tried adjusting the mesh filter to optimize it for tea, but it was either pushed too far out to the edge and the friction made it very difficult to press up and down, or it was pushed too far in and much of the tea leaves escaped to the upper part of the press (see attached video and picture). 3 stars because I realize tea may not be the intended use of this product and overall it seems like acceptable quality for the inexpensive price. I found the quality OK for the price and this may work well for the advertised use (coarse ground coffee), but ultimately it didn’t work well for me and I ended up buying a small tea pot. One other thing I found inconvenient was that with the handle design having the top of the handle jutting out into the top opening, it is hard to fit my hand down inside to clean it. This may be relevant if your hand is on the larger side.

    I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I do like it occasionally, so I originally purchased this french press thinking it’d be perfect for making coffee for myself occasionally. 8 cups seemed like a lot, so I went with the 3 cup model. I was pretty confused when the package arrived and this french press was barely larger than a can of redbull. Reading the ‘fine print’, I now see that it’s a 12oz press, and pretty much makes one average sized cup of coffee at a time. I’m not complaining, since that actually fits me perfectly as a single male who doesn’t drink coffee very often, but a word of warning to anyone else looking to get something to share with a spouse or significant other: You’re not going to get 2 cups of coffee out of this thing. It’s a french press for baby mans.

    After losing my old french press in a move, I replaced it with one of these. After a month of using it, I’ve decided this was a bad decision, and will be returning the press before the window closes. There are several design flaws that, if they haven’t made the unit fall apart completely yet, they soon will. Other reviewers have seen this happen apparently, but with a 4.5 star average, I didn’t go digging too deeply before purchasing. The Issues: – The plastic nut that holds the filter mesh assembly to the bottom of the stick is crap. It’s already getting loose, and that’s with being very careful not to over-tighten it. I can tell it will be one of the first pieces to go. Other reviewers can show what happens when this piece breaks. Never mind that having a piece of plastic suspended in your boiling hot beverage isn’t a great choice anyway. – The plastic itself *feels* cheap. I’m not averse to plastics in general, but the overall feel of the press isn’t great. Low density plastic with an odd-feeling surface texture and visible flashing from the injection molding process are all minor issues and wouldn’t be nearly a deal-breaker on their own, but they don’t contribute to a great experience. – You cannot remove the glass pitcher. The design of the plastic housing locks it in place, making it impossible to deep clean if you need to. Water and coffee *will* seep between the housing and the pitcher, and even hanging it upside down and shaking isn’t enough. I have water spots already between the housing and the glass that I’ll never be able to reach. – The lid will not rotate to hold in heat. This is minor, but with presses like the Bodum Chambord, you could twist the lid to move the strainer to the side and stop steam from escaping. The worst part though, is the steel filter mesh, for several separate reasons: – The mesh warps and allows grounds to squirt around the edges when using the plunger. Part of the problem is the mesh has to flex to slip into the pitcher. That’s how they all work, but instead of flexing uniformly, this one bends and folds. No amount of careful reshaping ever fixes this, as it happens again every time you use it. Pressing the plunger very slowly may help, but doesn’t solve the problem. – The spring around the edge of the plunger assembly is also really uneven where the ends overlap, and this doesn’t help with the warping problem. – The mesh edges are folded over to strengthen and smooth them, but this creates tiny pockets between the layers that grounds get stuck in and where they can never come out. – By far the WORST to me: the loose edges of the steel mesh have frayed apart leaving a dozen needle-like wires (so far) sticking out all around the inner edge. I’ve sliced and punctured my fingertips and caught the sponge on these wires multiple times while cleaning or simply handling it, despite being extra careful. Maybe I’ve just been lucky in my experiences so far, but I’ve not had this problem with other french presses I’ve owned over the years, including a Chambord, also made by Bodum. I keep trying to smooth the wires back down, but this problem isn’t going to get better. Again, I’ve had it less than a month so far. I’m actually concerned that over time, one of these tiny wires could break off and end up floating around in the coffee. (Though maybe everything else is designed to break before this ever happens. Who knows?) To be fair, it isn’t all bad. The coffee the press makes is tasty, though this is probably a result of coffee beans, grind and water more than the press itself. I also like the overall aesthetic of the press and that it comes in multiple colors, though the pandemic left me with plain black anyway. The glass pitcher is both a nice size and shape, and it pours really well without coffee dribbling down the spout or out the sides of the lid, which are both shockingly common issues. So overall any positives are far outweighed by the negatives for me, and while this is probably a bit of a ‘you get what you pay for’ situation, I’m definitely left searching for a replacement.
