   The Good: -Borosilicate vessels (very strong and temperature shock resistant) -Easy to clean (descaling with vinegar and soap/water rinse) -Simple operation -Flexible operation (3 different ways you can brew effectively) -Fast operation (only 4-5 mins) -Lid doubles as funnel stand -Keep warm option -Kettle lid has full open for easy cleaning -Works great for many tea types The OK: -No adjustable temperature (seems to cool to around 185˚ F from full boil by end of 4 min brewing; acceptable for many things) -Requires a 6 cup minimum batch to operate (more than many people need) The Bad: -No crema production (just isn’t a substitute for an espresso machine but maybe a better French press?) If you’re looking for an innovative coffee/tea brewing method this guy definitely puts on a show. It’s a unique design that involves a pressure change in the base to move water to the brewing funnel then removes that infused water when it shuts down. Very simple operation just involving adding water/grounds and pressing start. The machine will operate up to a full boil then steep for 4 minutes followed by an auto shutdown. There is a keep warm option if you want to spread out the pot. During operation the kettle reaches a full boil temperature and the funnel water cools to about 185˚ F; this is fine for coffee and many teas but you may need to run another half cycle to get a good infusion with tea. Taste is similar to a French press but you have a more stable brewing temp with low ground transfer. Borosilicate construction is strong, shock resistant and easy to clean; only requires soap/water and occasional vinegar descaling (you could use most descaling solutions for coffee machines too). Doesn’t feature adjustable temperature and doesn’t produce noticeable crema like an espresso machine but it isn’t intended to replace one. Overall, it’s a fun machine to use and gives better flavor than drip options. Whether it’s worth the price difference to a French press is debatable but I’d recommend it to anyone that likes having something entertaining to brew coffee in.

   It works well and boasts excellent quality, combining a traditional design with a modern shape. It has a stable base and consistently delivers great-tasting coffee. Adding a smartphone app for control would be a fantastic improvement, but even without it, the quality is impressive.

   This coffee maker is not your ordinary coffee machine, it’s by far the coolest in its unique design that looks like a science experiment! But you don’t need to understand the science behind it to know that it delivers a high end smooth cuppa!
   Clean up isn’t as easy as using filter papers but definitely worth the taste!

   I’ve been using this electric vacuum coffee maker for a few weeks now, and it has quickly become a staple in my morning routine. The temperature control feature really stands out; it allows me to brew coffee at the perfect temperature every time. I love how it keeps the flavors consistent, unlike some other brewers I’ve tried. For example, the temperature control helped me dial in the perfect brew when I was making a light roast – it brought out the subtle flavors I usually miss with other methods. It’s easy to clean and feels sturdy, so I’m confident it’ll last. A great addition to my kitchen!

   This is an updated version of the Santos that had been around for 25 or more years; a vacuum double coffee pot based on an earlier design you’d find in stainless steel. Bodum, being a fine maker of heat-resistant borosilicate glass, made a double vessel pot that was brewed on the stove. Water boils in the lower vessel, rises via steam and volume to the top vessel connected by a rubber gasket. When the heat is removed, the bottom vessel shrinks in volume and the coffee is pulled into the coffee pot and ready to serve. The filter is simply a plastic sieve that attaches to the stem delivering the coffee below via a hook and chain. There was no warming plate, so you’d either serve it all or keep on a low burner. Now the ePebo has a heating plate to boil the water and it serves as a warming plate to keep the brew hot. Pros: Attractive and dramatic. Can make coffee at table. (or, maybe–see “Con”) Will make 8 cups (these are six ounce European cups. Maybe four American mugs.) Minimum 4 cups. No filter purchase needed or waste paper. Uses a reusable plastic part as the filter Clean brew with no boiled flavor. Has a warming setting so coffee can sit and keep hot for second cups. Teaches principles of physics to your kids (do they drink coffee?) Con: HOW TO PROCEED if coffee refuses to descend to the lower vessel: If you grind your own coffee too finely, the suction created by the lower vessel will stop as the fines clog the filter. Medium grind only. Fine approaching mokka machine or espresso machine will not work. It will fail to pull the coffee back into the lower vessel. If it happens anyway (for example, you, like me, use a blade grinder and not a burr grinder and have some fines in the grind) then here is the fix. Turn the pot back on and let the coffee bubble back up again to the upper vessel. Then turn it off quickly. This can unclog the filter. My set was missing the curved carafe brush. The vessels are spherical with small openings and a curved brush is needed to clean them. I contacted Bodum and they’re working on this. After a week, still waiting. The stand for the upper vessel. This is a somewhat fragile part that has a glass stem and when you’ve brewed your coffee, it’s removed to stand on the upside down lid, with the spring loaded chain-hook detached. As it’s TOP-HEAVY, though the base (lid) is wide enough, the socket-style connection is feeble and prone to being knocked over. KEEP AWAY from kids, dogs, cats and clumsy elbows. If you serve at table, remove the upper chamber and the lid to the back of a kitchen counter, and honestly, I didn’t use the lid (viewed as feeble for a stand) and used a pitcher as a stand instead. Doesn’t make less than 6 (Euro) cups. No single brew feature. The hook will nick and chip that bottom glass stem over time if you are careless. I had a Santos pot years ago and observed this occurring. Be careful. Don’t let the chain “snap” into place. Summary: This is a dramatic coffee pot andcan make good coffee. Keeps it warm, well for at least 15 minutes. Set a timer and go back to keep the heat on, or pour into a carafe. The design has some less-than-smart features such as using the lid as a stand. The brush was missing, but the maker seems willing to rectify the missing part. UPDATE: not a peep after the “we got your email automated email” on replacing missing brush. Boo.

   We bought this after our cats broke our black and decker siphon filter coffee maker and found out it is discontinued. The coffee it makes is fantastic, but the amount it makes is not as much as we would like. It is best for a couple who only wants one cup of coffee each not two each.

   Only complaint is that it was missing the cleaning brush. I have contacted their customer support, but no reply as of yet.

   This is an interesting coffee maker, fun to watch. But it is difficult to clean, especially if you are missing the brush that is supposed to be included. (see pictures) Unfortunately Bodum customer service denies that the brush should be included, even though it is listed and pictured in the instruction booklet. If you email Bodum about it you will get a terse and unhelpful reply. Also, the filter is on a chain that clips directly onto the glass tube that connects the two parts of the maker. The filter must be removed to clean the pot. I expect that the bottom of the tube will chip or crack with daily use, rendering the pot useless. I would not purchase again.
