   Early one Sunday morning I turned the coffee maker on & got an error code “E01”…after looking up the code and reading the reviews online I can see that my Braun coffee maker has died. Bought December 2020 Died. April. 2022 I have little confidence that customer service (based on reviews) will be helpful in replacing the maker, let’s face it the corporate world builds their products to last just long enough for us to buy buy buy more junk. Bye..bye..bye to any future Braun products for my household 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽🤬 **Update April 8, 2022)** Customer service was great in helping me out. After submitting an email request via their website I received a response in two days, proceeded to call the company and after submitting two photos showing error code/cutting power cord Braun will send a replacement coffee maker. The entire phone conversation was less than 15 minutes. Still disappointed that the coffee maker died within 17 months of purchase…but customer service was good compared to other reviews left here.

   Positives: Made a tasty cup of coffee relatively quickly. Easy to program. Negatives: Broke after 8 months of normal home use. Having to deal with Braun customer service. If you’re thinking of buying this one because of the warranty, the reputation of the brand, or because you think that spending a bit more on this vs. a cheap coffee maker will get you a reliable, long-lived machine – look elsewhere as you’ll be making the same mistake I did. I kept the machine clean and only used it once a day. Even with that, it bit the dust in less than a year. Braun is slow to respond to emails and I’ve been waiting a month for a replacement machine, with no ship date in sight. I ended up replacing this coffee maker with a simple machine assembled in the U.S. (the Bunn BX) as it cost just slightly more than this one. I hope to have that machine for at least 5 years (hopefully longer). I am sorry that I contributed another object to the landfill by taking a chance on this Braun.

   I just love this coffee maker. It is basic and simple to use. After struggling for a year with a fancy grind and brew and all the maintenance to keep it functioning: ( descaling which took forever plus three carafe’s of water, cleaning the grinder and the chute, etc etc.) This simple but efficient coffee maker has returned the sanity to our coffee brewing. We can still brew one or several cups and the coffee is really hot and stays hot for hours. It has a timer so our coffee is ready when we get up. We have always loved Braun products. Even our old grinder (which we kept) works great. Highly recommend if you just want a basic, no nonsense, simple coffee maker that does not require a barista degree and hours of your time to keep it functioning.

I realize if ground is too fine then filter will clog but this should not be happening with standard store bought ground coffee.

   I have had four of these. There’s only three in the picture because one made it into the trash. The only reason I keep buying them is for the ability to program them to stay on for five hours. No other unit that I can find has that long and I drink coffee all day. I want a machine that doesn’t have the ridiculous safety shutoff but that I can still change the temperature and the brew strength. Is it too much to ask for it to actually work for more than a year? I have purchased (initially, to see if I liked it) a used one from an auction site for really cheap. When that one had an error message and wouldn’t brew after four months I figured, it was used, at the end of its life, what else to expect and bought a new one from coffeemakers.us.com. That one crapped out during COVID after a ridiculously short warranty period. Same problem. All the lights are on but no brewing happening. Replaced with the same model from another retailer on a deal and same the same result. At 9 months, lights are on, no brewing action, but also no error messages on the second or third units. Just not working. Managed to get the retailer to take the unit back and replace it. Now, after just over a year, the replacement has pulled the same problem. So, since 2019, I have had four of these. Three were brand new. All had the same exact issue. Worked great, and then stopped brewing with no warning. And I did every clean cycle as the cleaning cycle light came on all of them. So CLEARLY, there is an engineering problem here. Based on other reviews, Braun is aware and just chooses to keep cranking out these landfill fodder units and selling them to unsuspecting customers. For FIVE years this has been going on, at least. Please do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and choose another brand. I will never buy another coffee maker, toothbrush, electric shaver, etc. from this company that can’t even fix the basic engineering/electrical problem of their units. I guess I am just going to be drinking my coffee cold when I forget to reset whatever 2 hour shutoff unit I buy to replace this piece of junk. I literally still have two others in my garage to take to the dump. Guess I can add a third to the pile. Oh and one of the glass carafes cracked in the dishwasher. Top rack. First time I washed it. But I still had my carafe from the broken unit. So there’s that too.

    I have an update to add to my previous review. It’s been one year since Braun sent me a new coffee maker. The little tab on the filter basket that snaps into place, broke again. We are still making coffee, but the filter basket sits just above where it’s supposed to stop in the place. It’s a thin cheap piece of plastic. I highly recommend that you do not buy this coffee maker. I purchased this based on the reviews and was excited to receive it. We use a Kirkland(Costco) dark roast decaf coffee already ground in the can. Just started using the coffeemaker within the last month and when we make a full pot(12 cups) with 12 scoops of coffee, the grounds overflow and end up in the bottom of the carafe. If you make only 10 cups of coffee we don’t get as many grounds but still get some. The directions say you are able to add up to 15 scoops of coffee to the filter. I can’t imagine that would work, you would have a mess. We have been using a paper filter because the gold filter that comes with it lets a lot of sediment get into the carafe. Otherwise I do like being able to adjust the temperature of the warming plate and select the strength of the coffee. Setting the timer for auto on was a bit confusing. I think my next coffeemaker might be a non-cone type filter unit to see if it has been water flow through the filter. I don’t think I would purchase this unit again. I am very disappointed. As of today, November 29, 2022 the letters and numbers on the buttons are starting to wear off. Another update this morning January 18, 2023, the coating on the warming plate is peeling off. well, today is February 2, 2023. I just got home after work and I’m setting up the coffee maker in the morning and I noticed that the filter basket is not sitting right. So I take it out and look at it and the little plastic piece that snaps in place is broken. It’s barely hanging on. Also the brew pump does not shut off at the end of the cycle and continues to run. The guarantee is for three years so I called it in and the person on the other end of the phone was very helpful and is sending me a replacement. Please don’t buy this coffee maker it’s all plastic junk.

    When I found this coffee maker, I was excited at the prospect of a good German engineered coffee maker, perhaps one that would last for 5+ years while making a strong cup of coffee. The coffee maker hasn’t held it’s end of the bargain up. PROs(?): 1. Easy to program the clock 2. Offers three temperatures for the carafe 3. Offers a programmed start (or did) 4. Somewhat simplified cleaning procedure (that appears to have broken the coffee maker) with indicator light for when cleanings should be done 5. Offers a filter compartment that is easy to change (and that water gets around generally negating it’s utility) 6. Offers two strengths (cannot tell the difference) 7. Comes with gold filter (that we don’t use because paper filters are healthier, but to each their own) CONs: 1. The keys are printed in ink that runs off over time making any programming based on your memory of what they used to say 2. Programmed start no longer functional after 2 years 3. Cleaning procedure requires user to press clean button then brew button (why add a step!? Why not.just press the clean button?) 4. Cleaning procedure with Braun branded cleaning agent caused coffee maker to go into E01 error 5. Steam not well sealed causing moisture buildup in and around keys (and electronic components that obviously weren’t meant to get moist) From the start I wasn’t thrilled with the amount of moisture buildup around the keys and digital display. This seems like a design flaw that other coffee makers have been able to avoid. Just over a year into ownership I was running the cleaning program after looking up how to do it again. Before it had ended, the coffee maker went into a E01 code screen. This meant that the coffee maker would neither finish the cleaning cycle nor brew coffee. I emptied out the coffee maker and let it dry for a couple days and plugged it back in and it worked again. At this point the brew timer, key and program key had both rubbed off making it impossible to know what they were for without this prior knowledge. I have limited the number of cleans I do on the coffee maker. I recently did clean it again resulting in another E01 code and once again had two empty the coffee maker and dry it out for a couple of days. My wife has repeatedly mocked me now for purchasing a “fancy” coffee maker that needs to regularly be serviced while her father’s 20-year-old $20 coffee maker is still running strong. Irritatingly she has a point. While this coffee maker is pretty when new, it’s failings make it not worth purchasing. I have to assume the moisture issue and the key’s propensity to rub off applies to all of the Braun coffee makers in this series.

Bought this coffee maker a few months ago and its been producing great cups of coffee, but to force the user to clean the unit for 45 minutes is a bit much. Would have been a 5 star review. Update: Stainless Steel is now showing signs of rust.

    Well I finally have a Braun and…I love it. Looks great and stylish on my countertop. While I am very anti-reading directions I did and less than 5 minutes had the clock and auto on ready to go. I cleaned the unit first by running 12cups of water through twice. Had the temp on medium but the water was hot. 12 cups on bold flavor took approximately 10 minutes. I’ll write more on self cleaning after I use the feature. I’m actually excited to wake up at 0400 and have my coffee waiting on me and not burned after 15 minutes. I’ll update as time goes by but have no regrets right now

    I’ve only had it a couple days, but so far it’s a great coffee maker! Easy to clean since the caraf and filter holder can go in the dishwasher. It has lots of programmable options, like hard water options, bold brew, and 15 minute to 5 hour heat time. The only down side so far is that I have to pull it out to add water since the lid won’t open under my cabinets. But not a big deal since it’s light and slides forward easily.

    We purchased the Braun BrewSense drip coffee maker in September of 2021 and have enjoyed great coffee. This last year we would at times get an error code that it wasn’t sensing the water level which would frustrate my husband who loves the auto program feature to wake up to fresh coffee. The remedy is to unplug for 1 to 2 hours and plug back in which has been working – so weird. Not having morning coffee for 1 to 2 hours became a problem when it reached the 4th time. After trying all the online troubleshooting I called customer service early in the morning. After being on hold 15 minutes I decided to call later when it might not be as busy. After 2 HOURS I had to hang up. That is simply not acceptable. I will be trying to call again as we spent $110 and it is less than 2 years old to see if there is a remedy.

    I used to like Braun coffee maker but will be changing brand soon. I purchased Braun KF7170SI (picture on the left) but it only lasted a little bit over 2 years, the one middle lasted more than 4 years, and the last one which I kept in the garage for back-up still working up to now. The Braun KF7170SI seemed to brew less hotter coffee, too loud, and no water indicator on the side which is inconvenience when filling the reservoir.

    I’ve had this machine for a month and a half- Overall a very nice coffee maker. I’d ordered this to replace my pour over system after I knocked over the carafe, breaking it, and deciding that I wanted something less time consuming to make my morning coffee. After a few days, my new machine arrived, in good shape aside from a crack in the lid of the carafe, which must’ve happed before shipping because it was pristinely packed. I considered returning it, but after several days of using my travel French press, I was really ready to be able to make more than one cup of coffee at a time. I ended up deciding to just super glue the crack to prevent it from getting worse, and if/when it does get worse, they sell a replacement carafe. I don’t use a paper liner in the reusable filter, and the coffee it makes is really good. I have not had a dripping issue with the carafe at all, as some reviewers mention. I feel like every coffee machine has at least some people complain that there’s a design flaw in the carafe that makes it impossible to pour without dripping, and I honestly just believe that there must be a fundamental difference in how different people pour, because I’ve only had that issue with one kind of machine in my life. And I’m pretty sure it was user error, as other people in the office seemed to do fine. Tldr: Good machine. On par for the price range.

    Edit: I’m lowering my rating to two stars. While the coffeemaker does indeed make great coffee, the carafe is horribly brittle. A small tap on the kitchen counter and it broke. To add to the frustration, it’s nearly impossible to find a replacement. After hunting through Braun’s site I did find one but it’s day three and it still hasn’t shipped. Their customer service is non-existent. Phone hold times are forever and emails appear to be answered by bots instead of humans. I make a pot of coffee every morning. I prepare it the day before and the timer takes care of the rest. Taste of course is going to depend on your coffee of choice—for me that means Dunkin. But one thing that I think any coffee lover is going to be looking for is HOT coffee and this unit takes care of that very nicely. A couple of things that would be nice would be an audible alert when the coffee is done and a window on the side to see the water level. I’m tall enough for that not to matter but for those vertically challenged, it might be an issue. I have no regrets buying this.

    We’ve had this for about a year now and I love it. The cone type filter helps get the maximum flavor from the grounds. Easily settable options for the warmer plate temperature (high-medium-low) let me set it as I like. The programmed auto-start works just fine, though I nearly always start my brew manually when I want coffee. It has settings for regular and strong brew; I go with strong but that’s just my preference. Also a setting for when you’re making 4 cups or less – that’s usually the case for me. All these options can be selected individually and they’re displayed nicely on the control panel. So you can easily specify any combination of these, and see how it will brew before and after starting. I’ve used the provided permanent filter, as well as paper ones. I prefer the paper, but only because it works best with the coffee grind that I use. Both do work. Cleaning the coffee maker: The manual says to use Braun’s own cleaning solution, and to rinse once afterwards by filling the vat with plain water. I refuse to pay the cost of that solution. I have been using a 50-50 blend of white distilled vinegar and tap water. Afterwards, I rinse by filling the vat with tap water and running a “brew” cycle. I’m a bit obsessive so I rinse three times. Two is probably enough. I did have one issue. Here’s a word to the wise for other users. My photo here shows a little nub on the underside of the filter holder. Circled in yellow. That nub is what makes the filter holder “pop” into place as you press it down into the coffee maker. I used to always remove the holder for rinsing after each pot. One day, after rinsing it and then putting it back in, I pressed down too hard and too fast, and I broke that nub. I was able to get the holder to stay down without the nub (long story), but I later found a replacement part so it now works as it should again. To prevent future trouble, I now nearly always leave the filter holder in the coffee maker. Instead of rinsing it in the sink, I rinse it by filling the cone funnel with plain water and letting it drain into the empty carafe. I fill and drain it twice, and call it clean. I’m a happy camper.

    Whenever I use a Braun product, I feel like Dieter Rams himself is personally performing the task that the machine was designed for. That’s why using this coffee maker is so disappointing. The coffee it makes is consistent and flavorful when the brewer operates but all the actions you perform to start the process are afterthoughts to the aesthetics of the machine. Some specifics: 1. The space to pour the water into is miniscule; you’re groggy, the kitchen is probably dim, now you have to hit a target that’s 3.5 square inches. 2. Before you even pour the water in, you have to lift the lid. The designers detailed these tiny little indents on either side of the machine to “allow” you to lift the lid. The problem is that the tolerance in the construction in the hinge makes the lid shift to the side the exact amount of the indent so it’s impossible to lift the lid without two hands or friction on the slender lid alone. 3. Talking about lids, I make coffee every day and remove the carafe lid every single day to wash it. The part that engages it with the carafe is complicated, unintuitive and fragile. I will break it, it’s just a matter of time. The need to have some kind of haptic response that it’s snapped and locked into place makes this an unnecessarily overdesigned part. 4. Finally, who at this price range makes a v’amp’ire appliance anymore. The inability to turn the clock off (it’s color is different from all of my other appliances) – or even the whole device off if you don’t use the Auto On – seems quaint at this point. With all the other electronic features of this device, I wonder why you can’t really turn it off without unplugging it. In all, I think I wasted my money. I realize these seem like trivial and insignificant issues but that’s why I choose Braun over other appliances. I can get almost identical results for almost half the price. With this coffee maker, you’re paying for a name and an aesthetic and that should be what disappoints Dieter the most. **Update: Reducing to two stars. Since I wrote this review, the clock has actually gotten slower. I didn’t include it in the original review but it’s literally SIX minutes slow and continually getting worse. How did Braun get this so wrong?

    I bought this coffee maker for my husband for Christmas. During our 30 years of marriage I have repeatedly purchased the less expensive coffee makers. I am so proud I finally broke down and bought him a good one. This one is of excellent quality and looks nice sitting out on the cabinet. The coffee tastes amazing. This unit is easy to use. The instructions are clear and made it easy to operate, set the time, and program for ‘auto brew’ the next morning.
    I have no complaints on this unit and would recommend it to others.

    My biggest complaint with the coffee maker, as pictured here, is that when you turn it on, power it up, you have to push a second button in order to make coffee. The question is, who turns on the coffee maker with no intention of making coffee? Although it’s a good coffee maker it doesn’t really do anything else.
