   When I moved to Oakland five years ago and didn’t drink coffee, I thought all these coffee snobs were just giant douches. I mean, it’s *just* a cup of coffee. Well, I popped out another kid and coffee is now my morning life blood. Bay Area culture seeps into your taste buds and elevates your palate to whole new levels, thus creating more douchery for which I now ironicly carry a badge. I currently own your standard auto drip coffee maker from my cheaper-than-Foldgers days, one of those Italian stove stop espresso makers, and I’ve broken not one but TWO Bodum french presses. Oh yes, and I have equipment for pour overs (DCHE: +3EXP). OH WAIT! And I own an Aeropress (my badge now flashes neon lights in a hypnotic, swirling pattern – a beacon of absolute coffee douchitude). I need two cups of coffee to be a decent human being, and when you’re trying to get three kids out the door, fussing with the Aeropress is no bueno – especially if your partner wants a cup of coffee too. Enter the need for a french press. Except we have three kids and I’m hella clumsy so that hasn’t worked out so well for us. Act II: The Coffee Gator gracefully waltzes onto the stage I call “my counter”. I ordered it because it won’t shatter, isn’t shiny and prone to fingerprints, plus it promises to keep my coffee warmer by 32 minutes. I really didn’t order it expecting a better cup of coffee than my standard french press but OMFG – it delivers. For real, even the hubs agrees that this morning we ended up with the best cup of coffee ever tasted in this house. I can’t follow the directions to a tee every time (scrap foam after 4 min then let it set a few more minutes – uh, not when you’ve got three kids who leave the house at different times and you need to put a bra on before the landlord comes over to fix your bathtub at 9am). So if you do not follow the directions perfectly, you’ll still get a great strong AF cup of joe in the morning that will make other people think you’re a little too enthusiastic about …everything… but if you can actually follow the directions (like, on a leisurely Saturday morning), your palate will be enchanted with the smooth deliciousness that is the product of Coffee Gator. Also, I have no idea what the point of the little glass jar is – it looks like it could handle at most 4 T. of coffee and seems better suited to store your marijuana (that is, if you live in California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, or any other state with legal weed). But, hey – who am I look a gift stash jar in the bottle?

   I have been pleased with this French Press and have only put in in the dishwasher a couple of times in the 4 months that I have owned it. It says right on the box that the finish is dishwasher safe. Obviously, that isn’t the case. I believe that I am owed a replacement and I will hand wash from now on. Follow up to above review…3/9/2022 After contacting the seller, I received my replacement press today. Thank you for your excellent customer service. I am changing my review to 5 star. I was always happy with the press just disappointed in the finish. I would suggest removing the dishwasher safe from the box. The press is easy to clean. No real need for the dishwasher.

   **Current Review** So I had an issue with initial product (please see my review below), but a month or so after I left the first updated review, the founder of the company reached out to me, and offered to make it right. Once he made contact, he was helpful, courteous, and prompt. Although I was disappointed by the issue that I had, it was completely offset by superb customer service. We need more companies out there likes this. Good on them! At this point, I’d definitely buy another product from them. (Here’s hoping I don’t need to edit this review again.) **First Updated Review** I really liked this when I first got it, but after less than a month of regular us, (i.e. daily, at home, coffee brewing), it has already started to fall apart. As you can see in the attached image, the bottom is starting to come apart from the sides (two of the pictures — the third shows the side that is still attached as it is supposed to be). It’s still functional, but I’m (a) really concerned about how long it will continue to last given the build quality, and (b) that it will scratch my counter-tops. **Original Review** I got this to replace an old glass French Press. I wasn’t sure that I’d like it, and after using if for several weeks, I just wished I’d switch a long time ago. Looks good, seems to be built really well, and — most important — makes a fine cup of coffee.

   The coffee gator was a good buy, I did a taste test using yorba mate tea had no coffee but I brew a lot of tea, the container was a little warm from the outside so you are loosing a little heat, handle cool to the touch, pour no drip, no sediment, taste was very good, heavy duty this would be great for the out doors. Note due to the heavy duty construction, my drink was very clean and tasty and stay hot longer. Maybe I could find a sleeve that would help hold the heat even longer.

   It’s a French press and works as it should. I love the double filter layout. Somehow I still got a coffee ground in my cup, but who cares. The ground tastes as good as the coffee I’m drinking! Anyway, the double wall feature genuinely helps with maintaining hot coffee in the press while I’m sipping down the first cup. The bonus jar for extra coffee will help on those long days at school and I”m feeling extra hipster enough to tote around my press. I had one small imperfection with this product that I thought was awfully annoying considering the price you pay for this over the cheap glass Bodum. On the spout, there is pitted metal. I look at it, and the story I see is the metal on spout started to develop a form of pitting corrosion, which was then removed safely. After all, stainless steel can still corrode! I don’t feel justified in removing any starts since it does not affect the French press at all.

   I’ve had the Bodum Chambord and Brazil french presses before, and I like this one much better. Not having to worry about breaking the glass is kinda huge, and actually opens up other use cases you’d otherwise probably not reach for the super fragile thingy your caffeination depends on that tends to slips right out of your meaty man hands. The press screens are better on this one, and the reinforcing metal is sturdier. It all flexes less, which means fewer coffee grounds get stuck in-between the layers. The press also unscrews easily for cleaning, and is thought out well enough that there are no nuts or bolts to lose down the drain. The insulated aspect of this french press works well. The lid is a vacuum chamber as well. It has a bevel cut into it to make pouring easier, but I’ve found that it stays warmer quite a bit longer if the bevel isn’t oriented toward the spout. It still pours okay, regardless. The only thing I don’t like about this is the paint is coming off. I wish I would have gotten the unpainted version. I went the painted route because I thought the silver one would show finger prints and smudges easily. But based on how the lid is, I don’t think that’d actually be a problem. Go silver, and don’t look back.

   In person the orange is not as bright as in the photo, not a dealbreaker. It’s pretty close. And inside the stainless steel I hear a faint rattling/bell sound. It does not impede the function of the French press. It does keep my coffee warm for long periods of time, cause sometimes I get busy and forgot I was brewing coffee. 😆 I ended buying this one because I didn’t want to buy a plastic or glass French press. Stainless steel is the way to go.

    I am very impressed with this cafetiere. I’ve been using a cheap plastic one and to be fair it has been very good but it cracked at the bottom so I needed a new one because I love my coffee. I ruled out the glass ones for obvious reasons and chose this one. It really is very good and I am impressed with the quality and it looks good on my worktop. I can get 2 mugs filled to the max line and it stays hot for about an hour. I love the little mini container though I’m unsure what to use it for as it is very small. I’m now looking at the Gator containers and will be buying some in the near future.

    Update: upon contacting the seller their customer care was flawless. They replaced my faulty unit. I have added two Stars for that. Once I test this units seal this week I will update my review of the unit itself and award stars accordingly. But I wanted to acknowledge the amazing customer service, it’s always peace of mind knowing a company stands behind their products without flinching. As for the unit itself. I have loved this press, no grinds ever and a full rich flavor I have only had in Paris, and I think this is smoother lol. I expect to love this press and will be using it daily instead of my espresso machine or perfect temp coffee pot. I am a coffee lover, so I like 205 degree water over fresh ground beans that are locally roasted. So far the flavor this machine produces is bar none. Original unpacking review: I went to wash it prior to first use and upon submerging it I saw bubbles. When I pulled it out and inspected it, water was coming from the sout area where the weld is. This of course will render the vacuum inert which will make the fact that it’s double walled completely irrelevant. This was my first shot at a French press, and I did a ton of research prior to choosing this pricier of the options. I haven’t decided if I want to exchange or return it yet. It is hood looking and looks to be made well, perhaps I just got one that didn’t get welded properly.

    LOVE my new French press! I’ve been running my coffee shop for 11 years now and I’m only home 1 morning a week to enjoy coffee at home. I’ve been using the same French press for a few years now (I didnt really like it but only use it once a week so didn’t care to get a different one). It finally cracked and YAY I’M SO HAPPY IT DID! Did some research and decided to try out this French press by gator. AMAZING customer service by the way, truly so helpful and fun add one. I ordered the pink color which looks more like a dusty rose online. It is PINK which I prefer anyway. It’s smooth and sturdy, materials are not cheap and it’s not made cheaply either, you can tell by all the smooth seams and flawless design. The actual plunger is high end as well, strong and durable unlike my old OXO press. I am super happy with my purchase and recommend to anyone who French presses their morning coffee!

    This is the best French press I’ve ever owned: after going through half a dozen Bodum presses, finally one that keeps the coffee warm longer and … major plus! … doesn’t break. I’ve used it now for about a month: I am impressed how clean the filter has been so far, there are hardly any grinds trapped in the press when I wash it. I noticed that some reviewers remarked that there is a single filter, rather than two, as implied in the product description. Comparing to my old Bodum press, though, I can tell that the mesh on this filter is much denser, which makes me suppose that the “double” is actually embedded in one (otherwise, it would be rather cumbersome to have two filters — you’d end up with grinds getting trapped between the layers). I have to admit that one of the first things that attracted me to this press was the color — I got it in orange, and it nicely complements my set of orange mugs from Maxwell&Williams and the Secura water kettle. But what sold me on this was the sturdy design: I love the thick lid and how smoothly the press goes down (it’s like getting a car with a steering wheel support after you’ve driven an old clunker). I agree with other reviewers that the little complimentary canister is not very useful though (I got one with the press, and another with a big canister I bought for the coffee): they are tiny mason jars clad in orange metal casing, but without the bottom, leaving rather sharp edges, which makes it difficult to hold on to while unscrewing the top (perhaps a more user-friendly improvement would have been having a similar enclosure as the big canisters). That said, this is a minor point and doesn’t diminish the attractiveness of the whole press.

    Just arrived. Out of the box, the outside of the press has a very gritty feel to it. The inside was smooth/clean and had metered lines for 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 litre, which was nice, but those are nowhere near standard sizes of coffee (8, 12, 20oz). It has a double-mesh filter which appears to have slightly larger holes than my current Venken press. The side jar was nothing I expected as shown in the item description, and not in a good way. It is in essence a glass baby food jar with what might be a metal wrapping around it. The top of the jar is terribly designed, a halfway mix between a screw in and pull off. This jar is not ANYTHING I would trust taking out to the field or camping with. So far, not particularly impressed, will update my review after giving it a go. Update: Change my portion about tick lines… these aren’t even close to normal coffee cup sizes. This thing is getting sent back. Would not recommend.

    So far my husband and I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! We’ve only used it for loose leaf tea as we are big tea drinkers but I will update my review as we make coffee and nut/seed milks. Reasons why I love this/PROS: 1. It won’t crack or break or explode (as I’ve seen in some reviews involving other brands and glass). 2. We can toss it in our camping bin when we go camping! 3. It makes the best tea! No tea bits left at all when we pour (this is great as we only use loose leaf to be more low waste). 4. It looks nice! 5. The lid swivels to keep the heat in if you choose. 6. Easy to wash. 7. Great customer service, even on Instagram. Love a brand with quick responses and friendly repertoire. CONS 1. We only have one. My husband and I both easily drink 34 + ounces each. I like to take the gator on the porch in the morning. We will probably have to get a second soon! Side note: we got the silver one so it would hold up for the long haul in case the others would chip off paint. Buy well, buy once. I’d definitely recommend this though!

    I was looking for a French press that I could steep coffee in without it getting cold. I find that a full french press isn’t hot buy the time it’s finished. This product does exactly what I wanted. My photo is after a couple months of almost daily use. The paint/coating is coming off. I was mine in the dishwasher, which doesn’t help. Hand washing would prolong the coating. Fortunately the paint peeling doesn’t effect the usability. I believe there is a non painted variety, if I could go back and buy again, that would be the best path forward.

    Purchased nearly 3 years ago and used almost daily since. This brushed stainless press replaced a glass press that broke when dropped from counter level. Survived a couple drops from counter level and a few drops into sink with no more than minor scratches. Cleaning is really easy, I usually just rinse out grounds with hot water daily. When I finish a bag of beans, I fill with hot soapy water and let soak while finishing second cuppa. Then, I use paper towel to clean entire press, including disassembly of press and screens, using hot soapy water. Keeps second cuppa plenty hot in the 30-45 minutes while I finish first. A quarter cup of coffee beans/grounds with 200 degree F water, filled to fill line makes some good coffee. Previous to using press, I used a Keurig.

    Today is 22 September 2022. I received the press 9 August 2022, so I have been using it about seven weeks. It makes a great two or three cups of coffee. I make 700 ml of coffee each morning. The press can make a max of 750 ml, but that will spill over a little when pressed. Inside is all metal and easy to clean and easy to dispose of the grounds from. The press mechanism itself is very sturdy, easy to disassemble for cleaning, and fairly easy to reassemble for use. My only “disappointment” is that the paint is wearing from the bottom of the pot (see photo). I have smooth, nonabrasive counter tops so it’s not their fault. Also I don’t slide it around. Knowing this I would have gotten the shiny metal model. I imagine over the years this pot will lose some of its paint but maybe that will give it a lost paint patina. Since I got free shipping and 27% off the cost off the French press, it isn’t worth the trouble of returning it. Hey, it makes good coffee and cost half of replacing my Cuisinart drip pot that stopped working.

    The package came yesterday evening. It was very well packed with a lot of padding with styrofoam. However, when I opened it up the small glass ground coffee storage jar was cracked through the window. While trying to figure out if kitchen lights are causing some optical illusion the base of the jar just fell in my palm. This could not be during the shipping as the package was very well padded with styrofoam having the separate section of this container. It must have broken in the factory. Obviously, the factory needs little more quality inspection and careful handling. I have never used a French Press before so as a first time user, I freshly grounded my coffee this morning before using this press and I can attest that it was one of the best aroma and taste, I had before for a coffee. This French Press is very well made and looks great just sitting on the kitchen counter. Plunger seals very well I could not feel any granular coffee left. It filters the coffee very well. Amazingly when I took the plunger out, I could not find a single trace of any coffee granule on top of it. I would have given five star if, I had not found the coffee jar broken. Maybe I will change my mind if I can get a replacement or keep enjoying the coffee for few weeks.

    So this thing is a little rough sounding (sounds like scraping) when pressing down coffee, but when I got its replacement from another brand, same thing. So I think that is a given with stainless steel. BUT, when I put this thing in the dishwasher, it showed its true colors or lack thereof… 🙂 The entire exterior was pretty much ruined. It is a think plastic sheath and basically melted in the dry cycle. The leftover is flaky and will pollute my coffee as it chips off. So it was okay… But if you wash it, be safe and wash by hand.

    I’ve been trying to get the hang off the French press method of making coffee and recently got this item. I really like Gator products, mainly because of their simple and clean design. The version I got is the stainless steel one, in my opinion this is a timeless design. Clean lines, sturdy, heavy and easy to maintain/clean. Things I like the most: – Its size: this thing hold one litter of coffee. If you like coffee, that’s more than enough. If you have a big family, that’s very convenient too. – It’s a thermo: with an item this size you better keep it warm because you could make a ton of coffee at a time. This product keeps the coffee at a nice temperature for a very long time. – The lid closes the pouring gap: This was a nice surprise and a very smart design element. It has an arrow on the lid, that you can use as a guide to “open” or “close” the pouring spout. – The press mechanism holds tight against the walls. This is very important to make consistent coffee. It keeps the ground coffee below the plunge. The thing I do not care much: – It comes with one of those mini coffee recipients from Gator. I only like these as a decorative item. I cannot find a use for it. But that’s me, people seems to like these small canisters. If you have more Gator products, they look like little babies of the big canisters, which I highly recommend. I’m including some photos with the relevant parts mentioned on this list.

    UPDATE- 6/27/18 After expressing my experience with this French press I was graciously greeted by the seller who offered me a free replacement for the trouble I had with the first one. I just received it today and it is awesome!! The material on this new one is stronger feeling and still has the mat look but definitely an updated material. I’ve already tried it out and it works great! Super happy with this French press and would definitely recommend this one to anything who likes smooth coffe from a good looking press Old review- Overall this fresh press works great. The functionality of it is perfect and does exactly what it’s suppose to do. My only issue is that after a few washes the Matt paint started peeling off and now you can see the metal and it just looks cheap and trashy. I bought it as a gift and read the great reviews but am disappointed that the outside scrapes off so easily. Still a very cool design and good functioning French press.

    This unit was well reviewed by some reputable sources so, having busted my fourth glass French press in as many years, and desperately in need of a bullet proof press, I gave it a shot. First off, the packaging was well designed. Unboxing gave me the sense that I’ve purchased a premium product. Which is fine and dandy, until you set aside the cards and tchotckes and look at the actual product…as you can see in the picture, this press shipped with a noticeable scratch across the top of the lid, something some other reviewers have noted. Returning it would be more hassle than it’s worth, but when you have such a well marketed and well packaged product, to have a scratch right out of the box tells me maybe this company’s priorities aren’t in the right place. I’d much rather have a company spend money on decent quality control and ship in a plain brown box, than spend their money on “Sip me baby one more time” coasters, and ship a blemished product. That said…I just made my first cup with this and it tasted great – the double filter reduced the grit by half compared to my last French press. So the hype is definitely well earned. It’s heavy and built like a tank, which is a plus for me considering I have broken my share of glass French presses, as I said earlier. I do have a concern with the construction of the lid…it is sealed as one unit (see pictures) which may seem like a great idea from an insulation standpoint, but you can see that the channel where the stem passes through doesn’t look like it has a great weld…it almost looks like it was press-fitted. Considering all the condensation that collects on the bottom of the lid, plus hand washing, there seems to be a decent chance of moisture leaking in through the joint over time. Which would not be good, since it could lead to problems down the road with rust, or nasty water collecting inside the lid. Time will tell how well it’s sealed – if I encounter problems later I’ll update my review. Considering the compromise of this design and the fact that you really don’t want to leave French press coffee in the pot for very long at all if you want optimum flavor, I’m curious why they used a “sealed” hollow lid at all. While I certainly appreciate the body being hollow since it doesn’t get burning hot on the outside, a traditional one layer lid would have been an acceptable compromise without the potential flaws of this design. All that said…I debated giving this three stars, but the coffee tastes so much better than other French press coffee, I only docked one star for the aforementioned issues.

    Couldn’t wait to try this press out after reading the other reviews. I can tell you after trying it out today, I won’t have coffee any other way now. My first batch of coffee was CAF from Black Rifle Coffee, as that too had great reviews. Unfortunately, it only comes pre-ground (for now), but figured it’s worth a shot. Started with 6tbsp of grounds and adding just enough boiling water to rise the coffee grounds and inch off the bottom to let them go to work. Side note – for those wondering what that itty bitty canister is for that comes with, well, it fits 6tbsp of coffee grounds about perfect. 4 minutes later and a quick swish, I spooned out the mud on top & discarded it in the sink. Took my remaining boiling water and filled it up the rest of the way. I put the lid on and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Pushed the plunger down, careful not to press the grounds, and poured my first cup of french press coffee. I’m a big fan, and can’t wait to try some after grinding fresh. My only goal now is to get my wife to try a cup so the Keurig can go in the garbage.

    I don’t understand why you’d produce a painted product with the cheapest paint available, knowing that Every Single Review mentions that the paint comes off your product. Paint coming off within DAYS of use. Well, I don’t really care THAT much about the paint on my coffee press, but it doesn’t make sense for the company to keep ripping customers off like this. If you can get past the paint rubbing off DAYS into owning the unit, it will make you coffee and keep it hot for a little while longer than a tempered glass press. It won’t keep your coffee hot for HOURS or anything, but you can get a good 30 minutes out of this insulated press. If you really need your coffee to stay hot all day… transfer it immediately to a Rubbermaid Thermal Bottle 20oz and you’ll have hot coffee the next day too lol. PRO TIP: To clean your coffee-stained brushed stainless drinking vessels/press use a couple of tablets of denture cleaner (the fizzy kind) and it takes the stains right off!
