After 1.5 years of ownership my coffee maker suddenly died. Water poured out the bottom as fast as you’d put it in. The cause was easily fixable (a hose clamp fell off) except Cuisinart intentionally made it hard to fix. Note the proprietary screw. This is too expensive a coffee maker to fall apart after 1.5 years and outrageous they sabotage your ability to fix.

Update: Called Cuisinart just to see if this was a common problem- they are shipping me a brand new coffee maker-now that’s what you call good customer service!!! 6 months later- I still love my coffee maker but for some reason of the lettering and numbers on the buttons has disappeared, I’ve never had this happen before. This is probably the 4th coffee brewer I have tried in 6 months- I’ve had a MR.Coffee for years that did just fine but after so many uses it seemed I needed a new brewer. This is the first one that I have been pleased with- others felt cheaply made with flimsy plastic and the ones with no heat pad and a thermal carafe- never kept my coffee hot-I hated that I had to nuke my coffee to get it drinkable. This machine has a heating pad where the heat can be adjusted, L M or H-brews a great cup of coffee and hot! Highly recommend this machine!

I was told that Cuisinart would “take care of me”. They waited almost 2 months to get back to me and so naturally I threw unit away. Now because I don’t have the unit or the serial number, they can’t help correct situation. LOL – But they will give me a 20% discount. It’s time to try another company and I will probably save a lot more. Beware fellow consumers. ***** I loved this coffee maker so much, that I bought it twice. The first one lasted 2 years and died because of a faulty switch and wouldn’t turn on. My newest one died in just under a year, today in fact. Water was somehow pouring out the bottom. I had just cleaned with vinegar and water as directed and was running the clean water through a few times. I filled up the coffee maker and water started coming out of the bottom, water everywhere. I never experienced that type of failure. I liked the design, the coffee temp and flavor and the speed of the brewing. This is a seriously good machine, but the one big flaw is it breaks and doesn’t last. There are other issues like the labeling rubbing off, but that didn’t really bother me. Breaking in a year (+/-) is unacceptable. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Such a bummer. Really loved the look of this coffee machine. It fit so nicely in our limited kitchen space and when it worked, it made a really nice brew. I mean really nice. Unfortunately, it must have some kind of electrical issues because it sometimes works, but most time it doesn’t even turn on. When it works we are very happy, but that is maybe once or twice a week. We were hoping it would somehow come to life and act like a normal coffee machine, but it is not and now we are even past our return date. $90 down the drain.

Fun to watch. Easy to use and clean. Makes great coffee. I don’t use the metal filter, this lets oils through which change the taste in a way I dislike. The caraffe heating setting H keeps the coffee very hot – I have found L is a perfect drinking temperature. I dont use the carbon filter since I have a whole house water filtration system. Nice product – sturdy, attractive, fun to use.

Update 16th June 2022 – originally purchased 15th June 2020 – 2 years of solid operation.

New erractic behaviour – switches off very early sometimes after about 25% completion. The “clean” reminder now never appears. Most of the writing on the frequently used buttons have dissapeared, with the BREW button only showing end part of W 🙂 Had been making excellent coffee for 2 years. Chosen to replace with a Mocamaster.

I have now gone through THREE DIFFERENT Cuisinart DCC-4000 Coffee Makers because each one has randomly stopped working. Each time, the customer service people at Cuisinart have given me patronizing trouble-shooting tips like “try a different outlet” and “unplug and replug.” Yep. Already tried many of those obvious moves. Nothing worked. So because they didn’t know what was wrong, they’ve sent me a replacement coffee maker each time. 1. I bought my first Cuisinart DCC-4000 Coffee Maker is July. I brewed 3 pots of coffee, then it stopped working for no reason. It took Cuisinart about a month to send me a replacement. 2. My second Cuisinart DCC-4000 Coffee Maker worked for about 8 pots of coffee. Then of course, it stopped working. Same issue as before. Nobody could figure out what was wrong. Obviously, since I lost faith in the brand and the product, I asked for a refund but Cuisinart refused. So I begged them to please just send me a working coffeemaker this time. 3. So now my third replacement Cuisinart DCC-4000 Coffee Maker arrived. It’s the end of November. I got 2 pots of coffee and like clockwork, IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. Nobody at Cuisinart can tell me why. I’ve been dealing with this defective coffee maker now for 5 MONTHS. It’s been the biggest inconvenience. I have no idea how Cuisinart is able to keep this product on the market. It feels like I’m being scammed. Whatever you do, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.

I was hesitant to buy this because it didn’t have any reviews, but it was on sale for Black Friday so I thought I’d give it a go. I love the look of it and it brews a decent cup of coffee. It’s very easy to use, and I like that it has a bold brewing selection. The carafe is all glass which I love but I’ve been careful cleaning it as it seems it would break easier than a regular plastic handled carafe. I’ve been using it for 1 week and so far so good! ****Update 1/6/20: I’ve had this maker for a little over a year, and while it still makes an excellent cup of coffee, the lettering has begun to wear off of the buttons. UPDATE: Less than a month after I posted this review, the darn thing died completely. Like it will light up when you plug it in, but the heating element is gone and it won’t brew anymore. I contacted Cuisinart in early March and they said they’d ship a replacement. It is now June and I’ve yet to receive that replacement. I was told “oops, we did not send the replacement” (accidentally?!) and please wait another 21 business days. I’ve been using the small coffee maker from our camper in the meantime. Had I know this was going to go into being a months long process, I might have just sprung for another darned coffee maker. Terrible customer service. I’ve sent no less than 15 emails in this process! I have owned this coffee pot for about 10 months now. Initially I loved it. It *was* sleek, pretty, and shiny. It brews a decent cup of coffee, but it needs a lot of grounds to make it strong enough and this is where the problems come in. The coffee and grinds backwash or drip into the water reservoir. I’ve not been able to watch it happen, but we’ve had full on “coffee” in the clear water side on multiple occasions and this part is NOT removable, so you can’t just wash it. When this happens, the filter has to be removed and washed out, too. I’ve had so much mess with this portion and it makes no sense how coffee can spill and/or regurgitate into the clean water compartment, just a major design flaw. The pot is a TIGHT fit. It is tall and it’s tight, so you have to sort of tip it to get it into the spot correctly. This is a problem when there is still a lot of coffee in the pot. My pot is still intact, but I am admittedly super careful with it. The buttons are gone. All of them, gone. Basically this means we don’t get to use any of the features of the darned thing that make it so expensive because who knows what they do? The brew button is on it’s way out, too. The only good news. It does make coffee and it does turn itself off every day with a beeping tone. I can basically say “hey I’ve been up for 2 hours” when it goes off, but that is about it. Overall, very disappointed in this Cuisinart product… which says a lot, since I own so many! I am awaiting customer service’s response on my complaints, but from others I’ve seen, I am not holding my breath.

Initially was worried it has not too many reviews. No info about water temperature. So once I got it delivered, I ran a test brew and did a temperature measuring. You can find a full video review with temperature test on youtube. Pros: – Appearance. It looks interesting and attracts attention. – Water temperature test showed results within the recommended 195-205F range. – Programmable feature is what I was looking for. – A reusable coffee filter is a plus if you don’t like paper filters. Cons: – Not really a cons but it’s big and tall. It fits between countertop and cabinets but you need to move it out to open the water reservoir lid and to add a coffee. I wish Cuisinart had a smaller 6-8-cup version of this coffeemaker. – Again. Not really a cons but a thing to be aware of. Even without using “Bold” mode the coffee gets very strong and if you don’t grind beans to medium-coarse it can get bitter. Overall it’s great coffeemaker that makes pretty good coffee.

Design is really unique. My favorite thing so far is the carafe, it is all glass (including the handle). It is tall but taller than a regular coffee maker. Coffee taste is wonderful, seems to brew a little stronger. Not in love with the digital time, for me it’s a little difficult to read. Not a fast brew, very similar to regular coffee makers.

1 Year Update: Still making great coffee. No issues. All my questions were easily solved by reading the owner’s manual. Overall it’s been a great coffee maker and it’s a nice that the manufacturer gives it a three year warranty. The only negative I can think of is staining on the heating plate but my family doesn’t follow the same process I do for wiping everything down after use. If you use highly filtered water there’s no need to use the charcoal filter. Original Review: Purchased for the design. Coffee tastes good. Use a #4 filter with a fine grind. Slightly more coarse geind and the metal filter works fine. I’ll post back after a while.

The water gets pulled back into reservoir with the grounds. It leaks from the basket onto the warming plate around the sides of the carafe. Now, the reservoir water is always brown and it stops making coffee halfway through the cycle. Unfortunately I’m 10 days past the return window.
