   Used this grinder four times and loved the ease of grinding and the results, although still trying to convince my husband that freshly ground coffee is better than pre-ground coffee. During the fifth use, we noticed that the grounds were not getting into the ground coffee bin. So I went to the Baratza website in search of troubleshooting advice. First step was to clean (unclog) the grinder. I followed the steps outlined in their directions. Once the grounds had been cleared from the burr ring and all seemed to be cleaned out, I tried to grind a few more beans. No good. The grounds clogged up and never got deposited into the coffee bin. So I cleaned it out again and returned to the Baratza website to do more troubleshooting. After much researching, I discovered that the paddle wheel in my grinder only had one paddle, not four like it is supposed to have. The one remaining paddle also fell off when (photo on the left) replacing it with a new paddle wheel (right photo). coffeemakers.us.com does not carry any of the replacement parts so I ordered a new paddle wheel from the manufacturer. Easy enough and not an expensive part. The directions provided by Baratza seemed easy enough to follow, except that tools needed specify a Plate Vice Grip and none of the hardware stores in my area carry such a tool. My handy husband was able to loosen the cone burr using a regular pair of vice grips he pulled out of his tool box. Once the cone burr was removed, the rest of the replacement took less than 10 minutes. A successful grind of beans followed and we are back in business. So to sum things up, my dissatisfaction with the grinder is that I didn’t expect to have problems after only four uses. I was beyond the return window or I would have simply returned it. I also don’t know if the part was defective when I first received the grinder, so I will watch this carefully to see if it was a one-time occurrence, or a design flaw. My advice – if you order the Encore grinder, make sure the paddle wheel has all four paddles when you assemble for the first time.

   All right, so basically my disappointment in the Cuisinart Coffee Center lies in what you get for the money you pay. I have a lot to say here. I’ve had this for a week now, and I’m not new to the Cuisinart brand, but I’ve gotta say I am really disappointed in this. This was purchased to replace two coffee makers and save counter space. It is replacing a small one cup Keurig and a Cuisinart Grind & Brew. First off, I want to clarify what I bought verses what you will see in my pictures. I bought the black SS-15 Cuisinart Coffee Center which comes with the glass coffee pot, NOT the thermal carafe. However, you will see a stainless steel thermal carafe in my photos because I am successfully using the thermal carafe from my old Cuisinart Grind & Brew with this new coffee center! That’s a plus, gotta say that saved me some serious cash. I found a review from another customer who said that their old Cuisinart carafe worked, and just to make sure, I actually took mine to a Target store, and with the help/supervision of an employee, checked to see if it would fit. Of course, it was still a risk, you never really know until you try it, right? So I ordered the center with the glass coffee pot, and now I can confirm that it functions perfectly fine with the Cuisinart Coffee Center. I can also say it’s a plus that the lid the water comes out of with the coffee center is full of holes so the water is properly dispersed across your grounds rather than just flowing from a center hole like my old Cuisinart Grind & Brew. The lid also seals nicely when shut, and the permanent filter is a cone shape too. Although I knew this coffee center didn’t have it when I ordered it, I also really wish they’d have kept the built in grinder design that my Grind & Brew had, I really miss it. I enjoyed that feature, and it would’ve worked well with this new coffee center machine design. They should’ve at least offered it as an option in another upgraded machine, in my opinion. My biggest complaint from the coffee pot side is a common one. There are only two small spaces where you can pour the water into the machine with one of them being on the single brewer side, which is the middle of the machine, and although the other is on the outside on the other side, it has the removable filter for the water. Unless you have awesome aim, you’ll need to remove that water filter to avoid splashing when you pour water into the machine when using that side, which does seem to be the best place to add water. Regardless of which side you pour the water in, you need the lid up all the way to do so. Not a lot of us have a lot of space between countertops and cupboards, and I’m talking like 2 or more feet here. You can see in the photos that raising the lid up all the way will require at least 8 inches if you want it to stay open on its own, not to mention, the space needed for your hands and whatever container you’re pouring water from, PLUS a very slow and accurate pour. Don’t know about you, but even when we’re at our best, that ain’t easy. I really feel like there is a need for, and plenty of space to add a water reservoir along the back for the coffee pot side of the machine too. Other reviewers sighted spitting from the single cup feature, and sadly, I can confirm that. Furthermore, it doesn’t just spit when using regular size coffee cups, but also the taller ones just like you see in my photos, AND it’s not just a little spitting off to one side either. You can see in the photos of the counter it’s a good 7 inches out in front, it’s to the side of the machine, and the carafe on the other side too. Guess what? Those pics are taken when brewing with a TALL cup. You can also see how little space there is between the top of the tall cup used, and the brewer too. Yea, it’s not the end of the world and I’d expect some with a shorter cup because that makes sense considering the height the coffee is falling, but I do not find this result with a tall cup at all acceptable. I shouldn’t have to find the perfect size block to put a smaller coffee cup on top of, but if I don’t, that means I will ALWAYS need to use a taller cup, AND be prepared to clean up. I had placed a paper towel around the area when I brewed to see how much spitting I’d get, and I removed it halfway through the brewing thinking it was done, but then had more show up on the counter so that’s when and why I chose to take that particular photo. I never had this problem brewing with my single cup Keurig. Speaking of Keurig, their single cup filter adapter is much better design than the one which comes with the coffee center from Cuisinart. If my Keurig adapter worked with this new Cuisinart coffee center like my old thermal carafe does, I’d use that instead, but it doesn’t. Ok so the Cuisinart adapter, or pod as they call it, needs to be aligned correctly, yet does not actually snap or lock into position in the machine, which is stupid. The pod lid also does not cover the permanent filter around the sides; it doesn’t completely seal. Maybe that’s part of why it still spits with a tall cup? Took a photo of the pod, but the only way to really show you how loose it is when inside the machine, and that it can be totally turned around, would be with a video. I chose more pics over one video. I’m also not fond of the attached lid on the pod, or the plastic used for to make the pod. You can see in the photo it’s not very sturdy. I’m sure it’ll get broken easily during jostling if put in the dishwasher, and even during hand washing if you’re not really careful, not to mention normal use on a regular basis. For us, that’ll be every day. I would very much prefer it was made with much more durable plastic and a screw on lid that seals the pod like the Keurig one I have does. There is one plus with the Cuisinart pod over Keurig’s, and it’s the permanent filter that it comes with, also shown in my photo. It has an open bottom to allow for better water dispersement so at least there’s that. The water reservoir on the single brewer side is nice, however, the handle detaches way too easily, and doesn’t lock in. It needs to be more secure than it is, in my opinion, in order to avoid detaching while you’re trying to put the full reservoir back on the machine. I’m not even sure it’s supposed to detach! If it’s broken, it’s still functional, but I will need to watch it. Ugh. Furthermore, the single cup side has a drip try which only holds 3 ounces of liquid. If you forget to put a cup underneath to catch your coffee because you’re having a human moment, then it’s a huge mess to clean up. As far as cleaning goes, the parts that come off for washing clean up easily enough by hand, and I am not putting them into the dishwasher regardless of the fact that they say you can do it on the top rack. I don’t see that resulting in long life. I also don’t see how they can tout this machine as being self cleaning when all it does is blink lights to notify you that it requires a descaling cycle, and it requires more than pushing a single button to do it on the single serve side. There’s a CLEAN button on the coffee pot side so why not on the other side too? The instructions are very specific about how much vinegar to use, and exactly what you need to do for descaling along with what each step looks like with regard to the lights on both sides of the machine. I just think it could be a lot simpler overall if we had a single separate button to push for this process on the single serve side as well. So I’m keeping it, but I’m really glad I ordered it on sale and used gift cards, otherwise I probably would’ve suffered and not purchased it.

   There are only two people who drink coffee at our small office. My coworker REALLY wanted a Keurig so this was the compromise. Small pots for most days; single serve for the occasional instant gratification only (less waste.). This Cuisinart doesn’t do either well. Apparently Cusinart hasn’t figured out how to dole out water based on the serving size- at least not for pots. The single serve side pulls water based on cup size ; why can’t the pot side? I thought the 1-4 button was for that purpose but it’s not. You have to fill it with the water required for the pot size you’re brewing. With my Ninja (at home) you fill the reservoir fully- if you want 1 cup it pulls water for one cup, 1/2 pot etc. The Cuisinart requires daily filling/per pot filling which might be okay but it is a PAIN to fill. People are not exaggerating on other reviews. See my photos. You have two tiny corners to pour the water into and the left side has a carbon filter in it. So pour water into the right side- easy right? Except when you do that you can’t see the fill line on the left side. The top only flips back so much so you don’t have room there either. Accidentally pour too much water in and guess what- now you’re making a bigger pot. FRUSTRATING. Our office sink is very shallow so filling the pot each day is a pain. And yes; the single serve side splashes all over. We happen to have taller travel mugs so it’s not a big deal- however if you plan to use a regular sized mug you’re going to have a mess. In short (too late) if you want a versatile coffee maker in this price point buy a Ninja for a little more and skip the pods. Yes; you still have to add coffee/filter everyday- but it’s simple to make a single cup, travel size, half pot or full pot. It does it all well. If you really want a duel coffee maker with a pod side I’d honestly buy two machines. I researched the heck out of dual machines and this was the best I could find. Not good enough. Individual non-branded pod machines are cheap nowadays. Same as a decent full-pot sized coffee maker. If you have the room for two that would be my suggestion.

   UPDATE – (See comments at the end) – Okay. I’m a coffee-oholic. I usually drink 4 to 6 big cups (16oz) by midday. I work on my computer. I bought this unit because we occasionally had friends over and wanted to brew a pot. This provided the convenience of pods and the ability to brew a pot. However, since I drink 16 oz cups, the cup sizes of 10, 8, and 6 oz. were not satisfactory. What I did on my old K2 machine was brew an 8 oz cup and then a 6 oz cup (leaving the pod in) for 14 oz total. This left room for cream and sweetener. However, if you try to do this in the Cuisinart BEWARE! The second brewing on occasion will explode the pod! What a mess? In the meantime, I have switched to a 12 oz cup and just brew just 10 oz. I have cleaned my machine and all the flow ports repeatedly – the problem still happens. When it happens there is a very forceful blast of steam and them the popping noise. The water dripping with grinds flying wherever they can. It is a mess! So, if you are happy with just brewing pots or just using pods one at a time spaced out, then this machine is fine for you. Okay – I have found two work-arounds to this problem. 1) Wait about 10 minutes in between consecutive brewings with the same pod. This seems to provide enough cool-down time for the water in the tank. 2) Use one of those plastic & wire k-pods. You have to put your own coffee in it or cut open a normal pod and pour it in. This method is best for those people trying to make a mug of coffee on the run.

   I have a 20 year old Cuisinart 12 cup brewer that recently started failing. So naturally I had brand loyalty. Even though this was a hundred dollars more than the closest competitor, I was willing to pay for quality. Unfortunately, I suspect all of the quality people at Quisinart have retired since then and been replaced by today’s more typically inept smartphone zombies. Pros: -The 12 cup brewer side still manages to make a good pot of coffee. This is in spite of barely heating the water up to about 183degF, about 10deg short of ideal. -I found filling the reservoirs easy because the machine sits next to our sink with an extension wand. -As usual, Cuisinart includes charcoal filters in their reservoirs, a nice touch for those using municipal water. -All of the controls are fairly intuitive. Cons : -For the two days we had this machine, we found slow water leaks on the counter in the evening (several hours after morning use}. It appears to have come from the removable single side reservoir, which was filled to the max line but correctly installed on the brewer. The water leaked was probably about 1/4-1/2 cup. -The single side coffee was weak regardless of various attempts. The max water temp was about 175degF, way too low. The K-cup brews were all weak. I tried packing up to 17g of grounds into the mini basket but the brew still came out weak. 15g is the mfr max recommendation. -On the subject of the mini basket, the lid hinge is nothing more than a thinned area of the molding. This is the same technique you would use as a tear away tab. I’d bet this hinge wouldn’t last a month in daily use. Also, filling and emptying the single basket is cumbersome and risky, being so small. Many messes are made. -The blue clock light doesn’t turn off. At all. Ever. And it’s landing light bright. Foolish. -Last but not least, there is no elevated platform for a regular size coffee cup. Thus, when the single side brews, coffee SPLASHES everywhere. It’s absolutely ridiculous and is a blatant display that Cuisinart is either stupid or doesn’t care. To remedy this, we found an office desk paper clip cup that happened to fit well and somewhat help. But having to do this was pretty much the end for us, on top of the other shortcomings. The machine has been returned. We’re going to give the competition a try and see how it goes.

   Unfortunately by day 2 we began to see the water leaking issue — the reservoir for the single serve side DOES leak. I will be contacting Cuisinart immediately. The leak is from the bottom where the reservoir sits in the base. This unit was recommended by our kids who have one and love it. After 3 Keurig Duos that failed within the first 12-18 months, we were ready to look at other brands. This review is for Cuisinart model SS-15BKSP1 that is in “Black Stainless” color. I almost didn’t buy this one because of the reviews that showed exploded pods and stated the water leaked. However, then I found a couple of reviews that pointed out the k-cup holder MUST be installed correctly: the two white arrows must line up when the insert is put in the unit. I checked with our kids and they confirmed they have never had an issue with exploding pods. So, that issue seems to be user error. Now about the leaking tank. Yes, it did leak BECAUSE WE OVER FILLED IT! Again, user error. I suppose filling the pot tank with the pot rather than the hose from the sink could have avoided the issue. Edit: it turns out the single serve side DOES leak. Very sad. Another issue mentioned in reviews was that the unit splattered while making a single cup. The fix for that was to use a taller cup or put something on the tray to allow a small cup to sit closer to the opening dispensing coffee. Our mugs are pretty tall. I did see the first couple of cups kind of splattered, but it all went in the cup. So, no real issue there in my estimation. I use the single side with ground coffee rather than a pod. This unit comes with an insert that allows that. You remove the black pod insert (in the photo above) and replace it with the grey pod containing a small mesh basket that holds the coffee. Overall this unit feels durable and it looks very nice. If we find any glaring flaws I will update. However, after reading so many negative reviews that were user error, I wanted to provide our experience.

    This seller is top notch. I am a coffee snob and I was searching for a versatile coffee maker/k pod friendly machine for a quite some time. To say that I was nervous purchasing a refreshed/refurbished item is putting it mildly. But the item arrived on time and in excellent condition. Not a scratch on it. Not a blemish. Just beautiful. It was never used and I was blown away. Just spectacular. My family and I have been using it daily for a month now, and it checks all the boxes; mom’s fresh ground fine expresso roast, dads over ice pods, the 20+’somethings tea pods, and the teens organic pods and keeps chugging along beautifully day after day. Now a bit of advice, that has also been mentioned by others, you “must” clear out the pod needles to keep them from clogging. Or you may have a mess on your hands the next time you brew a pod. But to be fair, my family forgets occasionally and we haven’t had any disasters (except that one time). Pros: versatile well performing machine and it keeps a pot warm for up to four hours. Gives you the option to select bold brew. The water reservoir for the pod side can make up to three 10oz cups a day. Cons: the reservoir for the coffee maker is situated toward the back of the machine and is quite narrow so you have to be careful when adding water. Remembering to clear out the pod needles daily to avoid a disaster. But, regardless i’d still purchase it. I just wish I had done so sooner

    This could be very lengthy, but I’ll try to “make it short” This is our third coffee pot from coffeemakers.us.com in a short four months. The first two were replacements for a flex brew Hamilton Beach. Those pots had an apparently KNOWN issue of the warmer plate not working. I failed to keep the first box, so you can imagine how much trouble returning the pot to coffeemakers.us.com actually caused…. So, after repackaging and ordering the second, I kept the box to return the second, just in case.. and amazingly the pot was also defective. We decided that since we had always had good luck with our other Cuisinart appliances, we should spring for a little pricier pot and go for their comparable one. If you don’t already know, let me assure you that customer service is completely NONEXISTENT this day and time. We register all of our appliance purchases, so they did recognize our purchase. We have contacted Cuisinart by email, and they have put us in a back and forth emailing mode, (I believe), to put us off and tire us out. Hoping we will just move on. The coffee pot leaks ALL the time. My husband, and my brother are both Engineers, so it has been thoroughly inspected by both double EE’s. The company wanted us to “descale” the unit. We complied, even though we use bottled water to fill it, and have only used it for three months. It has leaked since day one. But then, the holidays, company in the house, and two grown ups who can’t function without their morning Joe, we have finally gotten around to spending the hours of dealing with “customer service”. After much trouble, trying everything they can suggest to figure it out, doing everything the manufacturer suggested, we finally removed the bottom plate, and discovered it was full of water. This could kill someone. As I am writing this review, my husband tells me that they will send a new one after we send them a picture of the pot with the cord cut. Do not buy this pot unless you have a “spare”, or read all reviews and know they are factual. I read the other reviews, and their complaints are legitimate as well. Update, received the new pot in record time! It has functioned as intended so far.. Thank you Cuisinart.

    I was an early adopter if a traditional drip machine + kcup brewer about 4 years ago and could find few options. That one died and I found this one. Loved previous Cuisinart brewers for their functionality and final product. I am blown away by this new multi brewer. 1. Super easy unboxing and easy quick guide set up. 2. Love having the filters to remove any tastes from the water, preventing me from using other than tap water 3. Brewing is relatively quiet but the alert beeps may be just a bit too loud but could be used as a wake up alarm 😉 4. Holy crap! The single serve side is the fastest I have seen. Hot, perfect temp coffee and with the strength selectors made for easy brewing of all my favorite types of KCups. 5. Love the warmer! This works well with an older stainless carafe if mine but I would love to get a carafe of the same metal color this brewer was in … praying to the Cuisinart Gods 😉 Excellent device and I’m looking forward to using it for a long time.

    So many things about this coffee maker I loved…..for a while. It has a number of great features like programming auto brew, how much time to allow for auto shutoff, carafe temperature setting, and a cleaning cycle. I could put up with having to clean the puncture needles on occasion when the single brew side would malfunction. Cleaning and descaling solved some issues as well. Most of the problems encountered were solvable with a little bit of brain power. The things I hate: 1) The single cup reservoir started leaking from the bottom quite often, flooding the countertop. 2) the burner plate has chipped, rusted and caused the bottom of the pot to look rusty, unable to remove. If you don’t mind buying a new coffee maker every 18-24 months, this one may be for you.

    Update: after 3 years of using the machine I’ve decided to try using the Keurig pods. All it did was a mess. As seen in my video, the needle doesn’t puncture the Keurig capsule therefore it was just water spilling all over the counter. Today is the first day of use. I used the single-serve side. The initial cleaning mentioned to press 10oz. At first it started like it was going to brew then only dripped a few drops of water. I got worried because a reviewer mentioned the same thing. After 4 minutes it was obvious it was not going to drop any more water so I tried again and it work. Just to make sure I tried once more and it worked. Then I proceed with my coffee. The design flaw: – using a coffee mug causes a few splashes over your counter and the 12-cup side. It should have had option to raise the mug. But that’s minor flaw. – I used the single side to make iced coffee therefore using a thumbler (travel mug). You CANNOT use a thumbler. The height between the tray base plate and the drip section is 7″. My thumbler is 8″. While you are able to remove the drip tray plate, the base is NOT removable. This makes it as if you’re inserting a long pole inside a bathtub but the ceiling is too low to get the pole back straight. – if not using capsule, single-side can only have 1 standard coffee scoop. They include a scoop but it’s tiny. The maximum capacity is 2.5 Cuisinart scoops (1 standard scoop of grind coffee). This made my coffee watery. Next time I’ll see if the bold option works on the single-side and makes a better coffee. After reading a few negative reviews of using capsules, I clean my needles (top and bottom). While i don’t intend to use capsules anytime soon I hope this will prevent the incident. I will update this review after a month of use if necessary.

    Second update since original purchase – DO NOT BUY! Several glaringly bad design items with this machine, the worst of which is the K-Cup….they don’t seat right and grounds overflow into a fantastic mess and lengthy clean up! Frankly, so much aggravation they should refund me!! Read previous details below… Decided to upgrade from our old reliable Cuisinart DCC-1100BK to add a K-Cup option. Here are initial findings. You’ll note I’ve added some helpful photos….and updates below, might be worth the read to save a big mess! Out of the box the unit looks nice, prep, set up & initial clean pretty simple especially if you’ve own Cuisinart before. The pot handle seemed a little less sturdy than my old DCC. Front panel is pretty self explanatory but if your accustomed to a push on/off on front panel, the power switch is on right at base. So you’d either let the unit power off by itself (you can set that length of time) or use switch on side. Carafe Coffee maker: Unlike the old unit the new maker presents a problem with filing the water chamber due to the K-Cup location. It would have been better, at least for filling, if the units had been swapped. With this new unit you have to aim carefully and pour down into chamber. Steady hand required. A full pot brew time was over 8 minutes. The brewed water maxed out at about 184 degrees. With the heat plate set to M the carafe water dropped 2 degrees over about 20 minutes. With the heat set to H the carafe water increased by about 4 degrees. Most say you need to brew at about 200 degrees +/- and then maintain 185 degrees. Hard to determine exact ‘internal’ brew temperature but based on the water temp immediately after last drop, seems it could brew a little hotter. I have always used the gold filter, it does leave some sediment in the bottom but eliminates paper filters and more garbage/expense. K-Cup brewer: The water chamber was removable for easy filing. The cup tray is removable for taller to-go cups. The K-Cup brewer worked pretty quickly -BUT- the temp maxed out at only about 177 degrees and started falling quickly! This has always been my dislike of K-Cup brewers – it ain’t hot enough! By the time you add creamer you’ve achieved warmish liquid. But, to enjoy the many K-Cup flavor options on the market, you deal with it. My work around is this – brew the K-Cup into an appropriate size measuring cup and then microwave the liquid for 20-30 seconds; microwaves may vary use caution. Coffee snobs would say, NO, you killed it. But, I increased temp from 160ish to 200ish, immediately poured into insulated to-go cup and added creamer. Thus achieving a ‘work-around solution and carrying temp of about 185ish. Our Contigos keep coffee warm for hours. Note: After reading a few reviews I highly suggest that you PRESS DOWN on your K-Cup pod – it will snap flush onto the pin. If you don’t press down and ‘snap it in place’ the top pin can make a ‘tear’ instead of a cleaner sealing puncture. A tear might leak, a ‘downward’ round puncture might not. See this is why HONEST reviews are so helpful! – – – -update, BUT, this hasn’t always worked and I’ve had many grounds and water overflows creating hell of a mess! So…..an initial 4-star due to the water filling issue and the water temperature issues. Probably the biggest CON is water filling on the carafe side. It almost requires something spouted to more easily fill the chamber. Some have reported leaking from both sides, I’ll update if either of mine leak. But, I’m beginning to think the safer bet is to leave the K-Cup water reservoir on the machine and fill it up while on as opposed to taking it off and going to fridge for filtered water. Yes, try to always use filtered water. It was never and issue with my old DCC model – but! Anyway, to be fair, I know there are more expensive coffee makers out there but I’ve found Cuisinart fairly reliable in the past – time will tell on this one. Update! The coffee maker keeps flashing clean, although I’ve cleaned many times. Called and they gave suggested fixes, didn’t work, but coffee still brews fine so I’ll just live with the small issues. Speaking of…as I noted about pressing down on Kpod earlier…I have sadly learned that the eco pods simply don’t work in this unit. Such as my favorite Cameron’s Southern Pecan!! You can’t press these down…so the metal tip won’t stab the top…it simple presses it down causing hot water to run over the top of the kPod AND if you don’t immediately stop this process the hot water weakens the pod lid and then grounds go EVERYWHERE! I think if they would just fix the issues I’ve mentioned and stop the ‘clean’ light from flashing…I otherwise really like this coffee maker. Highly recommend Motts Apple Cider for non coffee drinkers.

    You really can’t get the feeling for the saga of hunting for a Christmas coffee maker that would let my wife have a cup of fresh brewed decaf whenever she wanted unless you also read my review of the Keurig K-Duo. I monopolized the existing drip brewer, making my six cups of regular coffee each day, leaving her to use a press pot to make the two or three cups she might consume in a week. Long story short, I sent the K-Duo back (it appeared to be defective) and replaced it with the Cuisinart. In all fairness I must say that I already was using a Cuisinart drip brewer that looks and works much like the drip half of the Cuisinart duo. I was concerned about not ordering from Keurig, the company that pioneered the K-Cup technology. To my surprise, the Cuisinart K-Cup unit works very well. Unlike the Keurig which used a single water source to both brew multiple cups and single K-Cups, the Cuisinart has a separate, 40 ounce water capsule for the single cup brewer, and none for the drip brewer. To make drip coffee, you fill the carafe to the desired level, lift the basket lid, and pour water into the well. (A gauge on the side lets you know just how many cups are in the well.) This is similar to the Cuisinart I was replacing. It’s simple and doesn’t deplete the one cup reservoir, as happens with regular use of the brew side of the Keurig. The unit is taller (14.5 inches as compared with 13.0), but narrower all around (about ten inches square). Tom my eye it is more petit and, with it’s stainless steel, more attractive that the massive looking Keurig. But the real test was in whether it could brew a hot cup of brewed coffee. It passed with flying colors registering 195 degrees on two different thermometers. The coffee was hot, even after adding cream, and delicious. UPDATE: I have now made four pots of brewed coffee with this unit. The coffee tis hot and astes great. I used the Bold setting today and things were even better. My wife has made a couple of cups using the K-Cup single cup brew unit. The coffee was good. She has even put her press pot and thermos away. Visually the unit is much smaller and much more attractive than the K-Duo was. We have found none of the problems some other folks had with leaks and splashes from the single brew side. All in all, this seems like a great coffee maker that allows for a lot of flexibility in its use.

    I’ve used Keurig single cup coffee makers since the first one came out years ago. But, recent models have left me greatly disappointed. Based on reviews, I finally made the jump to Cuisinart and this model has met my expectations! I haven’t had it long enough to assess longevity, but the single cup coffee maker is quick, relatively quiet, and produces a good, hot cup of coffee. It easily fits my 16 oz travel mug and the drip tray removes adding even more clearance for a bigger mug. (See pic – with/without tray) Having the carafe and single cup combined is really convenient too. I use the carafe mainly for gatherings and would typically have to store my carafe and then pull it out of storage for get togethers. While I don’t use the carafe daily, I use it more often now because it’s right in front of me instead of in storage, and I’m very happy with the performance and flavor! Cons One con is the volume of the water held in the single cup reservoir. Depending on your frequency of use, you may be refilling often. On the pro side, the frequent filling keeps the water fresh (and is no different than filling your carafe each time you make a pot of coffee). The reservoir is located on the back of the unit. I haven’t found that to be a problem as it slips on and off so easily. That said, if you place the product in a tight spot, you will need room to pull the unit forward to access the reservoir. Also, as you can see from my pictures, the reservoir is not completely empty before you are required to add more water. (see pic for light and water still in reservoir) The single cup maker produced some minor micro spatters on the cupboard but I took the advice of another reviewer and put a small dish to raise up my coffee cup. (see pic) Cuisinart needs to build the capability to elevate the cup on future models. My final con is with lifting the lid to place the k-cup. I have good clearance under my cupboards but the top still doesn’t open all the way unless I pull it out. (see pic – under cupboard and pulled forward) I’ve learned to worked with the limited opening, but if you don’t have a lot of clearance under your cupboard, you’ll be pulling the unit out to place your k-cups every time. However, it’s worth the trade off to be able to fit a travel mug under the single cup dispenser. I’m very happy with this product! Update Nov 2022: I’ve had this unit two years now. Works as well as the day I bought it. I do use filtered water. I’ve also been using a reusable single cup insert/filter so that I can use fresh ground beans. I’ve gone through two over the past two years. Where the lid attaches is a stress point that weakens over time and eventually breaks off the cup. Aside from that, my only complaint has been the spatter when using the single cup. But, a coffee maker that is quiet, fast, provides a hot temperature and has longevity is worth dealing with the spatter.

    This coffee maker replaces a proto Cuisinart model that had an always-on hot water dispenser where the new one has the single cup brewer. The dispenser ultimately went unused as the cost to essentially keep a kettle of water heated 24/7 was outrageous. Enter this little gem! I love the “k-cup” system for it’s speed and versatility, even if I choose to fill my own reusable pod most of the time to avoid/reduce waste. What I cannot STAND though are Keurig’s cheap-@$$ line of brewers, which I’ve never had last more than 8 months. This machine actually delivers! The drip coffee maker is what it is, and makes decent coffee just like it’s predecessor did. The individual brewer is where it shines though! On-demand, it heats and dispenses the water needed for a 6, 8, or 10 ounce cup from a generous-sized reservoir. With the k-cup “cartridge” inserted you can use any k-cup. With the refillable filter “cartridge” inserted you can use your own coffee. And (best of all) with neither cartridge inserted, you’ve got a hot water dispenser that doesn’t pickup any residual coffee flavor (because the water dispenses without passing through or over any coffee-making parts). Coffee from the single cup brewer tends to be a little less hot than I’d like after a splash of cream is added (though extraction has been just fine). It just makes me wish the output temperature for the single cup brewer were adjustable. Important note: The included “use your own coffee” cartridge and stainless filter basket assembly are a little larger capacity than normal k-cup dimensions, so I find it has no trouble at all holding at least 15 grams of medium-ground coffee for a proper cup. Your mileage may vary.

    This seller is top notch. I am a coffee snob and I was searching for a versatile coffee maker/k pod friendly machine for a quite some time. To say that I was nervous purchasing a refreshed/refurbished item is putting it mildly. But the item arrived on time and in excellent condition. Not a scratch on it. Not a blemish. Just beautiful. It was never used and I was blown away. Just spectacular. My family and I have been using it daily for a month now, and it checks all the boxes; mom’s fresh ground fine expresso roast, dads over ice pods, the 20+’somethings tea pods, and the teens organic pods and keeps chugging along beautifully day after day. Now a bit of advice, that has also been mentioned by others, you “must” clear out the pod needles to keep them from clogging. Or you may have a mess on your hands the next time you brew a pod. But to be fair, my family forgets occasionally and we haven’t had any disasters (except that one time). Pros: versatile well performing machine and it keeps a pot warm for up to four hours. Gives you the option to select bold brew. The water reservoir for the pod side can make up to three 10oz cups a day. Cons: the reservoir for the coffee maker is situated toward the back of the machine and is quite narrow so you have to be careful when adding water. Remembering to clear out the pod needles daily to avoid a disaster. But, regardless i’d still purchase it. I just wish I had done so sooner

    I fell victim to the sexiness of this machine. The bronze color is so pretty, and fit perfectly into my kitchen design. The bronze color added to the cost, but I couldn’t resist the allure; it was love at first sight. I did read the reviews. Some were good and some were bad. Because I was in awe of the sleekness, and color, I attributed the bad reviews to people who “just didn’t know what they were doing”. The machine arrived in April. It was even prettier in person! I was ridiculously excited to wash it and get it set up. (Sadly, this was the highlight of my week). That first pot of coffee in the new machine was so good! Score! Then, the Keurig side. The first few times using it went well. Easy, clean, and easy to clean up. The only disappointment was that, as some reviews stated, the coffee dripped very sporadically which caused a lot of splashing. Drops of coffee were on the counter, the machine, the outside of the mug. Oh well, I decided I could live with that. After all-it was such a pretty appliance! Then, the first sign of my poor decision making came. A random Tuesday morning. While making one cup, on the Keurig side, grounds fell into the cup and got stuck inside the k-cup compartment. Okay, a mis-step. I assumed I just did something wrong. It couldn’t possibly be my beautiful new machine! Then it happened again. But worse. Grounds everywhere, coffee splashed everywhere. A k-cup wasted. Again. So, I cleaned up the mess and tried again. This time-no problems. My do-over cup of coffee was fine. This process of one good cup, one bad cup continued for a few months. Then it became one good cup, two bad cups. Finally, six months after buying the machine, I had to admit that my judgement was clouded. I allowed the prettyness to overrule my gut after reading reviews. I cleaned up so many messes of exploded grounds, splashed coffee, wasted k-cups and dirty dishes that I can’t possibly count them all. Today, I owe all previous reviewers an apology. I brushed off their negative reviews -warning me not to buy this product- by thinking they were just not doing something correctly. It turns out I was the one not doing something correctly. I wasn’t trusting their experiences. Just like a kid or teenager, I had to learn the lesson the hard way. So-I’m sorry random strangers who tried to prevent me from the horrors of this machine disguised as a beauty. I should’ve trusted you. To the other random strangers who’ve given this appliance a two-thumbs up – I’m very happy you’ve had good luck. The bottom line is – don’t trust beauty over brains, LOL. Save yourself the many troubles and do not buy this product. Cuisinart is usually a trusted brand (in my previous experiences), but this particular product did not hit the mark. In fact, the mark isn’t even in view. Just look at my photos to see that yes, I used the product correctly; yes, I’m an intelligent person; yet the appliance failed miserably. More than once. More than I can count. So, the hunt begins again for a 2 in 1 coffeemaker/single brew machine. Please, please trust my experience and don’t buy this product. Don’t regress to that teenager who “knew better” and did things anyway, just to learn the hard way. No one’s got time for that. Ha!!

    When our ninja coffee bar broke, we decided it was time to get something a little nicer. We were very surprised by this coffee maker, and now we see it as a must have. Packaging When the box arrived, it was packaged nicely. I wish the glass carafe has been secured a little better, because upon opening it almost fell out and hit the floor. In our case it didn’t though. Make sure not to throw out the charcoal filter pieces as they were in a separate bag in the box. Setup Setup was fairly easy. Keep in mind that you do have to soak the charcoal filter pieces prior to using, so this is not just a plug in and go product. I believe we soaked them for quite some time. If you’ve never had a k-cup maker and then also a traditional coffee maker, keep in mind that this product is very different than what you’ve experienced before. The maker has literally taken a traditional coffee pot and merged it with a k-cup maker, with two entirely different filtration systems and water wells. You have to fill them both up prior to using, unless you are only planning on using one sit initially. Every day use The buttons on the front are very compact, but seem perfect for the size of your fingers. The brushed stainless steel is also a nice tough as you can literally wipe off and smudges with a dry cloth. It is also really nice because you can control the temperature of your coffee. If you brew a low temp coffee, well might want to wait until its warm weather out for that one as the coffee brewed on low temp is really not hot, as one would expect. The grate under the k-cup side is also easily removed to clean excess buildup under it. Overall, my partner and I think this coffee maker is great. The stainless facade ties it in to our kitchen, the product brews coffee quickly, and it has just the right amount of complexity without having to become an “expert” via the manual prior to using. The blue lighting on the buttons is also very nice. This is a perfect coffee maker for a busy household, and we can’t say enough good things about it.
