   Makes a pretty good cup of coffee, is easy to clean and fairly durable. Only makes about one cup at a time, but if that’sall you really drink then that’sno issue. Also pretty small and can be taken camping easily. The inner layer of plastic did crack on a tumble once though, and since then has been un-usable. Coffee water leaks into the crack, getting between the layers of thermal plastic, making it impossible to clean effectively. Overall a good product, I don’t think it should’ve cracked when I dropped it, but honestly it wasn’t it’s first fall and was probably ultimately my fault

   I love my American Press Coffee and Tea Maker. I normally do French press when it is more than one person because of a larger size. This is perfect for just one person or to use out camping or on the road. So easy to use and a great quality cup of coffee is easily made in just a couple of minutes once your water is hot.    I’ve had the American Press for over a year now and it is by far the most unique, enjoyable, and easy way to make coffee that I’ve tried so far. Learning how to use it is not difficult. I personally got the hang of it on my second or third try. I’m sure you saw a few videos concerning the brewing process, and once I did it for myself it was truly fascinating once I did it for the first time. Clean-up is also crazy fast. The quality of the product is way above average (attached are pictures of the product after a year of use). All of the components are solidly built and has no flimsy-ness whatsoever. I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing lasts to pass on to my future grandchildren. There is room for improvement, however. Most of the components are made of plastic, the insulated cup and the coffee pod, and I am not the biggest fan of hot water touching these things over prolonged periods. Though again, these parts are good quality plastic. If it is possible, a stainless steel cup and pod would be awesome. I also find the size to be a bummer sometimes because it only pumps out 12 fl oz. Some days I feel like a little larger cup of coffee would be great, or a family member wants a taste of great coffee too. Lastly, I think the price is a bit steep, but considering the quality and convenience, this is not a huge issue. Here are a few PRO-TIPS that I have learned from experience and others that I think would benefit someone getting this product for the first time: -If you are grinding your coffee beans, coarser is better. If it is too fine, the pump will be near impossible to push down. Too coarse though, and the coffee might come out weak. Fine-tuning the desired consistency of grind takes a little time and you may go through a few lackluster batches of coffee before getting it just perfect. -To clean-up, empty out the used coffee grinds and rinse all the components thoroughly. Then put a dab of dish soap in the pod and close everything up, fill the insulated cup with warm water, and start pumping with the soapy pod. After a few pumps and feel that the insides are cleaned sufficiently, rinse out the components and let air-dry. Voila, all ready for next morning! -Personally, I have found the suggestion of letting the coffee grinds steep in the water for too long before pushing down makes the coffee really strong and acidic. If you prefer a more forgiving and weaker cup, let the coffee steep for only 10 seconds, and then pump down. This part again takes some time to fine-tune to get the desired cup of coffee. Do not give up, you will get the hang of it!

   I was impressed with the material and build quality. This makes a great cup of coffee with standard drip grind but can be further dialed in with grind size and brew time to your preferences if you have discerning tastes. I prefer this over a french press or the Aero press.

   Very happy with my It’s American Press. I use one heaping tablespoon of medium grind coffee (fills the coffee pod about half full) and let it ‘pre-soak’ for 2-3 minutes before SLOWLY pressing down the plunger. I basically rely on the weight of my hand to push the plunger down – takes about a minute to get to bottom.

   Be sure to use medium grind coffee. Fine ground particles will block and effectively plug the fine-mesh screen on the top of the coffee container pod. My guess is that using the cheaper ‘blade’ grinders will be a problem in this regard.

   I’m writing this review because some reviews expressed concern for durability. I’ve been using the American Press for about 8 years. I make a 12 in mug every day. Sometimes I switch to tea for a week, but I dont use the press for that. So conservatively I calculate that I’ve used the press 300 times a year for 8 years, or at least 2,400 times. I’ve made about 188 gallons of coffee over 8 years. I just bought a new press because I accidentally threw out the snap on pod. The only signs of wear I saw was that over time the parts turned brownish, probably because on only rinse the parts and clean them on the top rack of the dishwasher.

   I find it makes great coffee and is easy to use and clean. Of course, how your coffee tastes to you depends on the coffee you buy, the grind, and how long you extract it.

   As long as you realize that you’re buying a one-cup-at-a-time brewer, you’ll be getting your money’s worth. As a widower living alone, it’s a great product for me. If I still had a partner, I’d simply buy her one for herself.

    I actually ordered mine direct from the company before it was released to retailers. My coffee is best when it nearly melts a spoon so I mix chicory with regular coffee. The results are incredible! Not a purist by any means, but I haven’t tried tea yet but will sometime. Haven’t learned how to enjoy tea as strong as coffee yet. The press works so much better than my French Press as well as the Moka pot I inherited. This one is simpler to clean and that is very important to me since the grounds are composted. I hate messes and the American Press is not messy. Especially like that the carafe is easy to handle when full of hot coffee. If some liked mine enough to take it I would definitely get another.

    This makes approx 12 oz of coffee when filled to the 14 oz brim. You lose about 1-2 oz of coffee when done brewing because the remaining water gets trapped under the filter chamber (see pic). The last 2 oz contains the filtered silt so you don’t want to drink it anyway (but if you don’t care, you can pull out the plunger and pour the remaining out). There is a minuscule amount of silt present in my cup when I pour out all the coffee I easily can (minus the water under the filter chamber) from the press. I grind my coffee with a commandante c40, and while I personally don’t mind the silt, this is just gonna happen if you grind your beans at home. If you use preground store-bought coffee, I doubt silt will be as much of an issue though. The American press makes a smooth, full bodied cup. You can also use it a french press by just putting coffee directly in the press, pour hot water in, and plunge the filter chamber directly over the grounds. I do this sometimes when I’m lazy and don’t want to baby the coffee or sit there pressing for two minutes. I like the heat retention of the plastic and double walls. The construction is top notch and the press is a lot heavier than I expected. I do wish they come out with a bigger press one day because 12 oz is an awkward size and kinda annoying when you are making coffee for more than one person.

    Since first purchasing an American Press Coffee Maker several years ago, the Press has been around the world with me. If you enjoy coffee and want consistency in your travels, the American Press is the way to go. Tired of convenience store coffee or whatever type of cheap coffee a hotel or store may offer, by bringing your own ground coffee, you simply just need to add water and you have yourself a fine cup of joe! The American Press is lightweight and simple to use. Even a knuckle dragger doesn’t need instructions with the American Press – you simply open the bottom, pour in the grounds, add your hot water to the marked level, let it sit for a minute or two and then push the plunger all the way down. Voila – you have yourself a nice cup of fresh coffee. Afterwards, it is extremely simple to wash and hand clean in a sink for your next use. Around the world, both in hotels and in airplanes, people have commented about how great the American Press is. Maybe the best part of owning an American Press is politely correcting people when the call it a French Press.
