   DeLonghi TrueBrew is easily a game-changer for someone who likes a simple cup of black coffee. This machine doesn’t do espressos of any kind, nor does it claim to. But what it does the best is a perfect cup of coffee directly from the beans – fully automatic. You don’t need to be a coffee snob and learn each parameter needed to make optimum coffee – this machine does it for you. It calibrates every part of the coffee making to your liking, including the water salinity. • Design: Its around 16.5 inches high and ~13.5 inches deep and ~7 inches in width. So yes, this is a slightly big machine, but that’s because it comes packed with many advanced features. It’s quick sleek looking and can be kept on the countertop. Simple to set up. The video I have included shows the first use, where it rinses itself and you are ready to go. • Grinder – It comes equipped with a burr grinder, which adjusts the grind size based on your selection. You can also use pre-ground coffee if you like. It comes with a bypass section which allows you to do that. • Brewing styles: What it does the best is a cup of black coffee which can be had with your choice of dairy, but it also has an ‘espresso-style’ feature which is similar in strength to espresso. It doesn’t make that beautiful crema on the top, but it also isn’t designed to do that. You can brew starting from 8oz to around 40oz in one go. It is also perfectly suitable for making iced coffees. It has a separate mode called ‘Over Ice’ – just put a glass of ice on the bottom and push brew and voila, a perfectly made iced coffee. I have used other brands and DeLonghi probably does the best ‘Over Ice’ coffee. • Cleaning: Cleaning is super easy since it comes with quite a large waste basket (hidden) and all the brewed waste is extracted in the form of pucks inside this. Similar to what you might see with expresso waste. The rinse feature is fantastic as this doesn’t need you to collect the waste rinse in a cup. Instead, it collects inside in a rinse box, which you can take out and clean separately. What I like the best is unlike most other espresso machines on the market, it doesn’t generate plastic waste. You get your coffee straight from the bean, without needing it to bypass harmful plastic capsules. • Auto-on Feature: You can set timers and select the type of beverage you want, and it would dispense your perfect cup of coffee at that selected time.

   I am the type of person that can’t start the day without a good cup of coffee, and I also enjoy the occasional espresso in the afternoon to get a boost of energy. I also (kind of) refuse to make a huge line and pay an exorbitant amount of money for a cup of coffee just because it has a creative name or because they have a store on every corner. So, as you can imagine, I’ve been in the market for a good coffee maker with the perfect balance of quality and price. I know that there are many coffee makers capable of doing regular coffee as well as espresso, but the good ones are either too expensive (VERY) or too complicated to operate. I’ve been looking for the happy medium and I found it with the TrueBrew from De’Longhi! Easy to set up, lots of videos on the De’Longhi page to help with the assembly and operation and, once everything is ready to go, the results are amazing! The grinding of the coffee is short and not as loud as other machines I’ve tried. The menu is simple and intuitive to operate, and the options go from cup size (3 oz to 24 oz), strength (light, gold and bold) and it even has the alternative to do coffee over ice and use a by-pass cup to make coffee with already-grinded coffee. Maintenance and clean-up are simple to do. In the past, I’ve had some coffee makers that will only let you do clean-up on some parts but most of the inner workings are sealed, therefore making a complete cleaning close to impossible. Overall, For a reasonable price, this machine is a homerun. I am very happy with my decision to get my hands on this beauty!

   After two units tech support told me the device was designed to leak. Hope this helps someone else. TLDR – empty grounds and overflow catch basin after each use (max after two cups of coffee) or you will get coffee water all over your countertops – when the device arrives ensure the grinder is properly seated or you will see your device separate. When I was told the unit was designed to leak my first thought was why was the unit designed to pull more water for a cup off coffee than needed? If the unit always has a small reserve of water in the system why must it be expunged all over my countertop? I clean the unit once a day (empty both the grounds and water catch basin). I do this because the first unit I recieved leaked coffee all over my countertops and was sent a replacement. The second this did not happen for the first day. The second day after 2 cups of coffee it happened. What I started noticing even with the first unit is there is a period where you hear water draining. Into what I imagine is the overflow catch basin (working as designed right)… If you make more than two cups a coffee in a row you should stop to empty the catch basin. Well what happens if it drains to much water in the catch basin? I noticed (you can hear the water emptying) the unit empties out the left over water in the system (not in the resovior) this I believe is the cause of the spills onto my counter. However the fact that I see grounds in the water on the counter and the gounds bin is empty or near empty tells me its spilling from the point in the device where the water and grounds mix.

   I own 4 other different coffee machines with this De’Longhi TrueBrew Coffee Maker being my newest 5th machine. Three machines use different pods. The fourth is a fancy espresso machine. I love exploring different brewing methods. I picked this De’longhi TrueBrew because it is a machine that is capable of handling coffee beans AND pre-ground coffee in addition to various brewing options. I am the only one who drinks coffee daily and did not want to brew an entire carafe with a traditional machine. For my other machines, I went with pods because it was simpler but they are not good for the environment. They were also more expensive. I also didn’t want to deal with filters and cleanups with traditional drip brews. With the De’Longhi TrueBrew, I can buy coffee beans or use ground coffee without having to worry about price and the environment. Right out of the box, I noticed that this is a big machine and I couldn’t wait to try its capabilities. There are not many parts to assemble, which was a great sign! The water reservoir easily snaps to the main machine. The grinder section is well sealed with a rubber-gasket cover that keeps the beans fresh and away from oxygen. The inner bean container is not removable so you will have to finish one type of bean before you can put in a different type. The main coffee drip section has a removable plate and a catch basin. The body of the machine can be pulled out to reveal two containers. One to catch the used ground coffee and another to catch the extra water. These can all be separated and cleaned. The infuser can also be pulled out for cleaning. It contains a stainless steel mesh instead of the traditional paper filter. What are the brewing options? The machine is very simple to operate. I have been exploring the different brewing options and found them to be significantly different. The strengths of the coffee increases as I tried light, gold, and bold settings, with bold being the darkest in color. I love the large spectrum of brewing sizes from 3oz to 24oz. Sometimes, I only want a quick kick in the morning and would either choose the 3oz or 8oz cup. If I’m heading to the office, I would pick the 20oz for my thermal. How doe the coffee taste? It’s very smooth with medium roast. If you use different beans and want to adjust the temperature, you can go into the setting and set the relative temperatures from a range of 1 to 3. The manual doesn’t specify the actual temperature so some experimentation is needed. I am very happy with the default setting and enjoy the ease of making coffee. Cleanup: Like with any other appliance, some cleanup is expected. After every few cups, I would clean the overflow and the catch containers inside the machine. I like to also clean the infuser because grounds tend to settle and dry on the mesh. It’s relative easy and doesn’t require any special effort. Sound: This machine makes some clicks and clacks when starting up, brewing, and after brewing. Don’t worry, that is part of the normal operation! This is the perfect single cup machine that I have found so far. It has a built-in grinder, brews a single cup, minimizes waste, and has various brewing options. The coffee tastes delicious and all can be made by pushing two buttons. Instant fresh coffee every time!

   UPDATE: In March 2023, I purchased the TrueBrew shortly after it was released by DeLonghi. In September, 2024, (18 months later) I had a mechanical issue and contacted DeLonghi support. The phone support agent was terrific. We set up a video call on my cell phone so I could show the agent the issue I was having with the TrueBrew. After a short video discussion, she offered to send me a box and label so I could return the machine for warranty repair. A few days later, I received a FedEx box with packing material. I packed the machine and brought it down to FedEx for return. A few short weeks later, I received an email from DeLonghi explaining that the issue could not be repaired and that they would be sending me a TrueBrew Certified (refurbished) unit to me via FedEx delivery. Upon receiving the new machine I discovered that it actually performed BETTER than my original machine! The water leakage issue that I describe in my previous post had disappeared. They apparently corrected this problem on newer machines and the leakage no longer occurs and the emptying of the grounds and waste water is not needed as often as my original machine. I was thoroughly impressed with the DeLonghi support and adherence to their warranty, and both shipping costs to and from their repair facility was absorbed by DeLonghi, not to mention they even provided me with the box and packing materials! They have gained a very loyal customer due to this great experience. Thank you DeLonghi! MARCH 2023: We love the convenience of the new True Brew by DeLonghi. Being able to brew a cup of coffee with a one-stop unit easily is great. Not having to grind, fill the water, and then wait for the coffee to brew is a great way to start your day. It is understandable that the bean hopper, water reservoir, grind waste container, etc., are small and have to be emptied often, but the one ‘flaw’ is that the process of brewing and internal cleaning results in a puddle of grinds and water to leak underneath the unit. I contacted DeLonghi, and they are aware of the issue but do not have a resolution to the issue at this time. If you have a porous countertop, you may wish to place the unit on top of a waterproof surface, such as a cutting board, to prevent the leakage from damaging or staining your countertop. Otherwise, I love the unit so far!

   I should start by saying that I’m a coffee snob, I buy green beans from around the world and roast them to my liking so I always have freshly roasted beans with flavor profiles that I enjoy. I really can’t believe all the bad reviews on this product, this coffee maker does everything I want it to do… It makes great coffee from fresh beans in a short time with lots of ability to control the flavor. Most of the bad reviews I’ve seen are based on water splashing out onto the counter and it being hard to keep clean. I have a friend with a $5,000 Jura coffee maker and I’d put this up against it if you’re willing to do a little extra cleaning. The cost of this is so low that most of its competitors are just plain old coffee makers or worse, K cup machines. Cleaning this machine after use is so quick and easy I’m doing it after every 30 ounces of coffee. That is way more often than they recommend but it is worth it to make maintenance very easy and prevent the water getting on the counter top. The front of the unit easily pulls out to gain access to everything you need, in one minute I’m able to drain the water holder and the used coffee catch trays including rinsing them out. If you want to clean the infuser make sure you turn the machine off, you can’t get it out with the power on. (found that out after trying with the power on) Take one paper towel and wipe it down and put it back in, another minute total. So two minutes of cleaning every day or two and you have a machine that I feel competes with the best ones one the market, Jura, and you can do it for a tiny amount of the cost of one of theirs. I do have one complaint about a stupid marketing label that they put on the inside of the machine. It’s going to look like cra… really quickly but if you want to remove it you will need some type of glue remover. I used goo-off and it did a great job, now I don’t have to look at marketing when I’m cleaning the machine. I would have been okay with this if they would have made the sticker easier to get cleanly off. The pictures attached to this review are after making 5 cups of coffee, no mess, not a drop of spilled water. Pros: Cost for what you get is outstanding Cleanup is so quick and easy if done often The flip down for smaller mugs is plenty solid enough The noise level for the grinder is moderately loud but not terrible The bean hopper is nice size, I got 10 ounces of beans in it with room to spare It will default to the last size and type, quick if you always make it the same The brew speed isn’t super fast but that’s a good thing for flavor, the grounds need time to hydrate to get the flavor out Has a temperature adjustment, you can use this for your preference or to get different flavors from different beans cons: You need to pre-warm your cup if you brew at 3oz, your cup will draw the heat out of the coffee and it will be too cool to enjoy The device is pretty heavy with the water tank full so it isn’t easy to slide around on the counter top, you may find that a plus but I do need to pull it out to get easy access to the bean hopper if I’m using pre-ground coffee, I’d like it move a little easier. Conclusion: If you’re willing to do a little extra cleaning I believe you will be thrilled with the ease of use and the taste of the coffee it makes. I’ll be coming back here over the next few months if I feel anything has changed.

   The TrueBrew is an awesome fully automatic coffee powerhouse for coffee lovers. What we loved: 1. It uses whole beans and automatically grinds them for you! I loved this feature! Automatic grinders can be quite expensive and manual grinders can be hard to get the right coarseness, with this it was perfect every time. 2. It has a substantial water reservoir that does not need frequent refills. 3. You can set a timer to wake up to a fresh batch of coffee. (Note, some other reviews mentioned not being able to make more than one cup at a time, we just used a larger carafe and split that into multiple cups once we were up). 4. It’s incredibly convenient to make a single cup of coffee or espresso throughout the day, so you always have a fresh beverage instead of reheating from a large pot. 5. Brew time is quite quick, and it provides the convenience without the harm to the environment of those little pods since you use your choice of whole beans. (And the flavor is SOOOO much better). 6. It’s much more cost and time-effective then going out for a cup of coffee from and honestly, I like our beans better. 7. The iced coffee and espresso modes were our favorites. 9. The 3 options for brew style actually did have 3 distinct flavors. 10. We loved the variety in amount of coffee brewed so you could match your mug or carafe of choice. What we didn’t love: 1. If you’re not used to using an automatic grinder w/ water reservoir it is quite loud. 2. When you first turn it on, there is a delay before you’re able to make your selections. 3. The flip-down support for a smaller cup seems a little flimsy I would absolutely recommend this to a friend in lieu of buying daily coffee. This would also make a really great gift for a coffee lover.

    We have had this coffee maker for about six months. For the first four months the machine operated properly and dispensed good coffee. Between my wife and I we brew about four cups per day. However, at the four month mark it began having error codes, the red flashing triangle. I have been able to clear the code by opening the and reseating the infuser mechanism, or by unplugging it. I regularly clean the inside of the unit as the manual states. The issue with this is if the error occurs before the coffee was brewed, it dumps the fresh ground coffee into the used grounds tray. So I lose my coffee grounds when that happens. If this were infrequent, I wouldn’t have an issue with it, however, the unit is doing this every few days, and I’m losing coffee weekly. This is (or was) a $500 coffee maker, so I have an issue with that. I called De’Longhi service for a replacement and did video support calls showing the error on two separate occasions. While the support reps were nice and spent time with me, they advised their policy would not replace the coffee maker for this issue. They said they would repair the unit, however, I have been waiting for about a month, and have not received the shipping box. The service tech said this error was within specification, and did not warrant a replacement. So it appears, if I ship it back they will test it, it will pass their test, and they will send it back to me. I feel this unit will not last a long time despite the high cost. I would recommend looking at other coffee makers. EDIT: The coffee maker is just over a year old annd now out of warranty. Due to the stated problems it no longer works. With every use it jams and fails to function. For a $500 coffee maker highly disappointing. I would avoid this unit.

    Initially this machine worked really well. Once set up correctly, it make good cups of coffee and was pretty easy to clean.

    However, in the past week the insides seemed to become significantly messier (and wetter) after each brew, and required much more wiping down, and finally this morning, when asked to brew 16oz, it instead brewed 8oz and spilled what I presume to be the other 8oz of water out the bottom. A thorough cleaning of the insides didn’t help, as a test run afterwards did the same thing.

    I have filed a ticket with DeLonghi support about the problem. I will update the review and rating based on their response.

    I really like this machine. Makes a pretty decent cup of coffee, and you can choose your favourite beans. One thing to consider, the machine was revised on the inside to help with the horrific mess it makes with the dirty water. If you received one WITHOUT a red drip tray inside. Return it and try get one with the revision. You will barely get 3 cups out of it before the pathetic black one overflows inside. Then when you open it up to clean the catch trays the dirty water and grounds spill out all over the place.

    I am a big time coffee lover and believe it or not a real good cup of coffee is hard to come by these days. I even roast my own coffee beans in an attempt to help achieve that perfect cup at home. I thought I had it … until I brewed a cup of coffee in the De’Longhi True Brew. This, my friends, doesn’t make a good cup of coffee. It make the perfect cup of coffee! You have several options to choose from, too. Whether it is light, gold, bold, and even over ice this machine will make it perfect every single time. I love that there are so many options for the cup size. Sometimes you just want a little coffee, and it’s nice you don’t have a carafe to clean. At first I didn’t like there was no carafe. But after a few days I prefer to get my coffee by the cup because every cup is fresh and hot. One of the things I really like about the True Brew is it not only stores the beans above, but the lid has a seal on it to help the beans maintain freshness. Once you hit that Brew button it will grind exactly the right amount of beans needed then it discards the spent grounds in an easy to clean grounds container. Every few days I pull out the tray assembly and dump the grounds in the garden. No filter, foil, or plastic to go to the landfills which is a big one for me. You can even pull out and clean the infuser. You can use ground coffee in the True Brew if you choose as well which is very nice. This machine is not small but it actually saves counter space by eliminating the need for a coffee grinder . There is only one minor thing that I think this machine should have, and that is a heavy duty three prong plug. All in all, I am impressed with the quality of the De’Longhi True Brew, and I am extremely impressed with the coffee it brews! I definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a perfect cup of coffee in the comfort of your own home.

    As with most folks these days, I run on caffeine and will have a cup of coffee in the morning and a mid-afternoon pick me up. I own many different contraptions from pour overs and french presses to moka pots and capsule-based systems. Here is what I loved about the TrueBrew system and some of the considerations. The main piece that really stuck out to me with this machine is it being an all-in-one system! I can have my morning 12 oz cup which I like with a touch of cream and my afternoon espresso (the pick me up). It is able to make coffee of different strengths and sizes effortlessly. Also, since some of the beans are naturally stronger than others, being able to adjust the strength with different types of coffee was very useful. Also, it includes a built in conical burr grinder replacing the need for a separate machine. A couple considerations to note: • the TrueBrew system does not allow for fine-tuning the grind size directly • you can use pre-ground coffee, but must place it directly in the filter basket; finnicky with amounts and brewing • The low bean indicator light would come on when there were still enough beans to make 2 – 3 cups of coffee Additionally, when doing the 3 oz espresso, the TrueBrew system adds that coveted crema (foam) on top similar to traditional manual and capsule-based espresso machines. I could also schedule my morning cup quite easily so it was ready to go for me soon after my alarm – simple little things that just make sense. The area that was a bit lacking and the main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the cleanup process. Being a bit of a coffee snob and a clean freak, I did not feel the “self-cleaning” nature of the machine was sufficient. There was definitely coffee residue in the machine afterwards and felt I needed to do a deeper clean when switching to different beans that had different flavor profiles. Also, the used coffee grounds did not come out as solid pucks for me as advertised – they were soft and broke apart in the receptacle. All-in-all, this is a great coffee maker that ties in multiple elements to really streamline items for daily use. It is not for those that are looking to really get into the nuances of their coffee by adjusting grinds, strengths, etc., but more for the everyday coffee drinker who appreciates a well made cup with very little effort on a regular basis.

    I’ve been using this coffee maker for 5 months. I’m quite disappointed because it isn’t what I expected. I used 2 different brands of coffee beans and it still not good. My complaints: 1. I use the lightest roast beans with light strength setting. The coffee is still way too strong. I have to use 12oz setting with my 16oz cup and add hot water after that to dilute. I wish it could be reprogrammed to use amount of beans for 12oz but water for 16oz. 2. It’s very messy. I read reviews before buying and now can confirm that it’s true. I have to clean it thoroughly after 8 cups. 3. 16oz cup doesn’t fit in the middle foldable holder but too small to have it on the bottom because it spills all over. I had to use a plastic food container to move the cup closer to the spout (will attach picture later) The 2nd and 3rd complaints aren’t big deal actually. However, the first one is the biggest problem for me. Why couldn’t they have a lighter strength setting? I don’t understand it. Many people prefer less spices in their food, less sugar and salt, less juice in their drinks and so on. Of course there are people who like very light strength coffee. It wouldn’t be complicated for the manufacturer to make minor changes in the settings. Now I have to struggle making coffee in the morning. I think I’ll have to come up with another approach. Like having beans container empty and just adding a tablespoon of beans before each roast, using 16oz setting, and cover that “empty beans container” sensor inside. That’s to much hassle but at least I don’t have to heat up water in a kettle every time. I will attach additional pictures and videos later.

    First the pros: It is very easy to make drip coffee. You just add the water, beans, and pick your size of cup. It basically creates an Americano with an espresso like puck of coffee. The coffee has a little crema on the top which is nicer than almost all drip coffee machines that I have used but it isn’t a real crema like you would have from an espresso machine Americano. You get options from 3 oz to 24 oz plus cooler brew for ice coffee and using pre-ground. I have tried a variety of drip coffee from the Technivorm, which in my opinion is overrated, to a basic cheap auto drip. The one that I tended to like the most is the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System. I like to just walk up, pick a size of coffee, and have it make it. The Ninja holds enough water for several cups of coffee and allows you to pick a cup of coffee, add filter, grounds, and done. The TrueBrew is even easier though since there is no filter and the water reservoir is large enough that you can get several cups of coffee without adding water. The coffee is better than the Ninja since it is more like an Americano taste than a drip coffee taste. Even the Techniovorm has a drip coffee taste but it is even more annoying because of the simplistic build, it will brew whatever amount of water is in the reservoir, which means you need to add water, filter, and coffee every time you use it. Overall, I do like the coffee better than most drip coffee machines that I have tried. Now the cons: It is making coffee similar to their auto espresso machine, which I have tried also. It creates an expresso puck which is dumped into the a bin behind the front of the machine. The bin is small so you need to pull the front off the machine often to dump it. Also, it rinses the mechanics similar to the auto espresso machine so uses more water for that process. No big deal since the water reservoir is large enough but the water bin inside to catch it is small so it fills up quickly. It also splashes water and coffee grounds all over the inside, and no matter how gently you pull the front off to empty them, coffee water will spill on your counter and, in my case, down the front of the cabinet, and on the floor. Every time you empty it, you will need to wipe up the mess on the inside of the machine, on your counter, the front of you cabinet, and off the floor. Very poor design on this part of it. The flap that you lower to put an espresso cup on is very flimsy and feels like it could break off without much effort, the lid to the water reservoir is kind of hard to get a hold of so it is easy to drop it into the reservoir, and the lid over the coffee beans has to fit just right to close properly and for some reason, it usually takes me a bit to get it on correctly. The 3 oz setting is espresso style but not a real espresso. It has a little crema but not much so if you want espresso with a nice crema, you will be disappointed. The temp coming out is about 180 degrees so lower than the suggested best extraction temp of 195 to 205. To use pre-ground coffee it is a bit of a process and the hole to dump it in is kind of small. You have to press start, size of cup, type of brew so you repeatedly press Type until it gets to the pre-ground selection, then press Brew, add the pre-ground coffee, and then press Brew again. Not hard but just a clumsy process. Also, even though the front looks like you could just press the coffee size, you can’t. They are just lights. You need to press the Size or Type button repeatedly to scroll through them. Seems like that could have been done better for a $500 coffee machine. Overall impression: I am not sure if I will keep it or not. I may go back to the Ninja. I will admit it is nice to not deal with the filter or grinding separately. I have a separate Breville grinder so grinding and dumping into the Ninja isn’t a huge hassle but it is nice to not do it. You do get a bit of flexibility with your brew from light to gold, and bold and it does stay at your previous setting so if you brew the same thing all the time, you just put your cup in there, hit power, and brew…done…unless you need to add more water. Some folks will love the convenience of this machine and will not be concerned about the mess but anyone who wants a real espresso or wants the perfect extraction temp, will be disappointed. I would take this over the Technivorm though.

    It is an amazing piece of machinery and makes a great cup of coffee. Anything from three oz all the way up to 24 ounces is just at the touch of a button. The flexibility to be able to use ground coffee or beans is great and really ensures that you will always have a fresh cup every time. There are a few things that make it slightly less than perfect: firstly, you cannot brew for multiple people at the same time as you would with your typical 12 cup carafe. Secondly, it can be a little bit noisy but that’s just a matter of getting to it. When it going through its cleanup, it almost sounds like it is getting ready to brew again. I like the fact that you don’t have to clean up the grounds every time that you use it which is you very convenient. However, if you’re using your own grounds it can be a little cumbersome to get them in the funnel without making a mess because the hole is small. Overall, it’s a beautiful machine and has quite some heft to it and it feels very sturdy.

    My initial interest for this coffee maker, was sparked due to the sleek and absolutely beautiful design! While the size of it is rather large, I was actually really happy with the display of it on my kitchen counter! It’s extremely stylish and meshed right in with the rest of my modernly designed kitchen. The DeLonghi TrueBrew truly is a game changer. I’m not one for difficult coffee, and this machine literally creates the PERFECT cup of coffee directly from the bean. Each cup tastes fresh. I’d also like to add that while other machines claim to be capable of brewing over ice, none have ever come close to the iced coffee brewed with this machine. It has the “Over-Ice” mode that can be selected at the click of a button. You simply just place the cup of ice underneath, press brew and allow the TrueBrew to do its thing. The iced coffee is phenomenal. Cafe brewed tasting coffee from the comfort of your own home. After a bit of trial, I did learn that I need to be sure to empty the coffee grounds after every 3 uses or so, just to ensure I am getting the freshest blend. The cleaning of the machine was just as easy as the use, with the removable front face. This machine is worth every dollar in my opinion. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone in the market!

    We’ve had many a coffee maker in our 25 years of marriage. This one BY FAR brews the best cup of coffee. If you buy this coffee maker, you will be forever dissatisfied with other brews. But alas, nothing is ever easy, is it? The trade-off, is that about once a week (we brew 3 cups of coffee per day), you will be faced with an absolute mess to clean up (see photos). And yes, it’s that bad every time. And please know, we thoroughly clean the machine EACH time, spotless. And a few days later, when late for work and just trying to make a quick cup of coffee, either my husband or I has to first empty and clean up the machine. Please understand, if it were just a matter of emptying and rinsing out the elimination bins, NO problem. But, it’s not that simple. The drainage of coffee water and grounds dumps out, goes under your machine and on to the floor as you pull the tray out. Today, I decided to try using some coffee grounds (we usually use whole beans) that my sister brought as a souvenir from Hawaii. Sadly, they dumped right through the machine and I got the indicator light that the machine needed to be cleaned. Bye bye Hawaiian coffee. So, we’re really frustrated. We invested $500 for a “nice” coffee machine, and after six months of use, we continue to have a love/loathe relationship with. I don’t believe that De’Longhi should be able to sell a machine that doesn’t function properly. We bought this in anticipation of using it in a new kitchen, but I’m really having second thoughts, as I don’t want my brand new countertops and floors to get stained. With dark roast beans, the boldest setting just barely reaches the surface on the depth that you might get from a pour-over. There are hard-to-deny benefits: you can program it to brew a freshly-ground cup of coffee without even a touch of a button. Coffee comes out PIPING hot, and it’s foolproof — anyone can use it. Even my mom. And it is undeniably a sleek design that looks attractive on my coffee bar. If you enjoy a variety of beans throughout the week, or prefer a bolder flavor than a light to medium level, this machine is not for you. Now, if you’re looking for a one-and-done method of being served a hot cup of coffee without dealing with multiple appliances, then you’ve got a very useful tool at your disposal.     Oh boy, where to start? First the good – This machine makes one heck of a good cup of coffee! It grinds your fresh beans and the infuser system brews single cups almost perfectly (at least to my long time coffee drinker taste). Rich tasting, hot, adjustable to strength and size. Now the bad – it is a total mess after brewing just 3 or 4 cups! Water, grounds, and general sludge are everywhere inside (and even leaking onto my kitchen counter). I know its not just my unit as I see this complaint all over the internet referring to this machine. Despite a video chat tech session and the replacement of a leaking infuser arranged by really helpful, competent, and patient DeLonghi customer care folks and tips on coffee bean roast types (also unfortunate as I like dark roast which is not recommended for this machine, unbeknownst to me before purchasing) it is still a problem . Thank goodness I am the only coffee drinker in my household and I can clean it frequently enough (daily) to enjoy the really superior cup of coffee it produces. But would I recommend it someone else?
