   I did pay extra for this model because it looks odd and it has a touchscreen – but it’s doing a darn good job of pumping out coffee. If you look at cafe au lait pods shipped from uk through coffeemakers.us.com it’s still cheaper than Nespresso it is indeed a different type of coffee but it tastes very good. The cups for most dolce gusto pods are not American sized mugs mind you. But chococino is very addictive and the cafe au lait is smooth and very convenient. I wish the machine was cheaper but it is fun!

   I’ve been using this machine for a few weeks now, making coffee and other drinks and doing my best to evaluate this and determine if it’s worth having. I am a longtime espresso drinker and Nespresso user for the past few years and was curious about the Dolce Gusto coffee system. This is a system that has been around since 2006 but hasn’t really caught on in the US for whatever reason. It functions as almost a cross between a Keurig and a Nespresso/Verismo machine, although it does have a 15 bar espresso pump and can produce some actually fairly decent espresso. More on that later. I’ll be honest, this machine had me stumped. Why isn’t this system more popular? It can make a variety of different drinks from Americano to Cappuccino to Chai Latte, to hot chocolate to mochas and about 10 other different hot drinks. There’s definitely something for everyone. However, when searching on coffeemakers.us.com for capsules, it’s hard to find anything other than a couple coffee types. That aside, I am going to review this machine in particular and give my general impression on the flavors I’ve tried. Nescafe was kind enough to send me a selection of different capsules which was helpful because otherwise I probably would have only purchased one or 2 flavors for the review. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like all of them. I mostly enjoyed the straight coffee ones like the Medium and Dark roast, and the Espresso. I’m not a huge fan of the powdered milk and creme they use in the milk based drinks, but in all fairness it’s pretty impressive for what it is. The machine itself is outrageous looking as you can see, and I love the styling. It’s high quality and the touchscreen is easy to use. It connects to your home wifi and as soon as you get it, it downloads an updated menu so you have a list of all the available capsule types to choose from and you just select the one you want. You can turn these off, so only the ones you’ve purchased will show up, to prevent you from scrolling through a long list. The machine can stay on all the time, and a quick tap of the screen wakes it up and the machine starts heating up water immediately, expecting you will be making a drink soon (it goes back to sleep after you don’t use it for a while). To make a drink, all you do is put a capsule in the holder and push a button. Many of the drinks use 2 capsules, with the coffee and milk being separate. The machine does all the work. It knows how much water to use and how much pressure to apply and all you do is put in the capsule and let it go. The machine comes with a “knock box” which is a little tub that you empty the capsule into and it matches the look of the machine. It works well but takes up even more space than the machine. The machine and capsule holder really take up a lot of space in your kitchen and it’s just as deep as it is wide. But if you have the room in your kitchen, this machine is definitely a piece of art and something people will talk about when they see it. The back of the machine hides a water tank. Push down and it pops up and you remove the tank to fill it. One really nice feature of this machine is a 50 dollar plumbed water tank that you can hook to your main water line or better yet, a water filtration system. I’ve noticed that I have to fill the water every couple days or so and it’s not a big deal but it would be so nice to never have to worry about it. I’m definitely getting that water tank if I end up using this as my full time coffee machine, which is something I’m still debating. Cleanup of the machine is easy. There is a cleaning tool and instructions on how to descale it and keep it running well. The color touch screen helps with the process, and as far as operation of the machine and usability, this machine is as good as any I’ve ever used and miles more advanced than any Keurig machine. It’s a great machine and I’ve never had one issue with a capsule failing or coffee not coming out in the expected amount. One cool thing about the different flavors is the top of the box will tell you how many ounces of coffee each capsule will produce, and the total ounces if there are more than one capsule. This makes sure you don’t use too small of a mug for larger drinks. Some drinks are almost 12 ounces, and some are as small as 1.4 ounces for a single espresso shot. Ok so the machine is great, the capsules are somewhat hard to find, but how is the taste? This part is the most subjective and hardest to review. I’ll be completely honest here – I didn’t like the taste at first. I had been drinking my favorite blends of Peet’s coffee in a lungo Espresso style from a very nice Nespresso machine and I have it all dialed in just the way I like it. So when I transferred to this machine, it was a bit of an adjustment. I was not used to drinking coffee with milk or cream, and a lot of the best drinks this one makes are Cappuccinos and other milk based drinks. I decided that in order to do a proper review, I was going to drink exclusively from this machine for several weeks and try every flavor I had and really get a taste for it to see if I liked it overall. I’m happy to say that after 3 weeks or so, I have discovered the flavors I like and I’m really a fan of this machine and this capsule system. The medium roast is like a very delicious drip coffee, and I like it the best, as boring as that sounds. Hey, it tastes good to me. The dark roast is another favorite and the milk based drinks are even starting to grow on me. I really like the chai latte. It’s sweet but really tasty and it’s a nice dessert drink. I don’t really feel qualified to review what the best capsules are. It depends what you like personally. I will say that if you can find a source of capsules and like a variety of coffee and don’t want to spend a lot of time making it, this is a really great machine. It’s large, it’s crazy looking, but it’s good quality and it makes good espresso based coffee. There is almost no maintenance or cleanup besides dumping out the capsules and keeping the water filled. Every few months depending on use and water quality you will need to descale the machine but that’s automated as well. I am kind of hoping the Dolce Gusto system takes off in the US. Mainly because I have this machine and I want to keep using it, and also because I think it’s a good system and a good alternative to people who want Nespresso like coffee but don’t want to deal with the hassle and cleanup of steaming milk. At one point, I was ready to rate this 2 or 3 stars. But this machine has really grown on me, and it’s really worked hard to earn it’s 5 star rating. It’s definitely not for everyone. It’s not perfect either, but no coffee machine is or there wouldn’t be so many different types. This model is expensive but there are lower priced entry level Dolce Gusto machines for around 70 dollars that are much more basic and don’t have the fancy screen and other features. So that’s my rating and I’m standing by it. I will continue to use this multiple times daily and if it breaks or I stop using it for whatever reason, I’ll update my review.

   I have two different coffee makers in this series – the Majesto and the Esperta 2. Both are excellent machines, and the Majesto is my favorite – mainly because of the touch screen and styling. There’s also no lever to pull down – it’s all automated. But you pay a premium for that. The Esperta 2 brews the same coffee, same pods, but uses a dial instead of a touch-screen, and has a lever you need to lock in place before brewing. The Esperta 2 is targeted at the typical consumer while the Majesto has features that are aimed at a small office (RFID for example.) Both are amazing and consistent. I’ve had a lot of pod brewers and consistency is a big issue – you don’t always get the same amount of water or temp. These Nescafe brewers are always spot-on. I’ve had the Majesto for several months and have gone through at least 40 boxes of pods. I’ve had the Esperta 2 for a few weeks. The Majesto is in the kitchen, the Esperta 2 is in the home office. Yea, I’m too lazy to walk across the house for a cup of coffee. From what I see, they both use the same pump – that’s good. So far I have zero complaints and the pump can be found online. Why mention that? I’ve had the pump in other brands fail after a few months and had to throw the machine away. There’s really no setup for the Esperta 2. Add water and go. Run a few empty “cups” through it to clean everything out and you’re all set to start enjoying great coffee. Or mocha. Or tea…. The Majesto is more complicated, but still easy. I had the Majesto first so here’s the review for that: I thought I’d see how easy this was to setup, so filled the tank and turned it on. The interactive menu system took me through every step, from setting up WiFi to the initial cleaning. I was making coffee about 5 minutes after unpacking it. Use could not be simpler. All the available drinks are displayed with pictures and titles, plus there’s a “create a custom cup” option. After playing with the coffee maker for a while and making around 15 cups of coffee I have a few general observations. Temperature is fixed, either hot or cold – it can’t be adjusted. Every available capsule is not on the main display – more are available on a submenu. From here you can change the drinks that show on the main menu. If you want to make a drink that’s not on a menu you use the “create a custom cup” feature. From here you select hot or cold and the amount of water. Unlike the other brews, you are not prompted to put the capsule in the machine – I expected to be prompted as it did so every previous time. So instead of making coffee I made a cup of hot water. If the power goes out you need to setup the network again – but the settings are memorized, so it was basically pressing “next” a few times. One thing I have been unable to do is update the machine. The brewer is connected to WiFi, it shows the status as connected, and shows an update available – but the option is not available. A little “capsule bin” aka, trash can, is included for dropping in the used capsules. There’s probably an ounce of water in each capsule after brewing, so just tossing in a trash can is not a good idea. A door on the bottom of the bin holds tools and a spare part for the brewer. So even if you don’t want to use the bin, keep the tools handy. The brewer supports RFID via a points system and chipped card, so it’s a good solution for offices that need to control beverage consumption. It is a BIG machine. I needed to make space and removed a blender and brewer. This brewer would fit in a corner perfectly, but not under a cabinet as the brewer would have to be pulled forward to remove the water container. The brewer uses a “mavea aqua aroma crema” water filter that’s good for 150 liters ($15 to $35 depending on the make.) Other maintenance includes descaling and rinsing. Descaling kits are around $15 for two. So even though it requires periodic maintenance it’s not that expensive to keep the machine running well and coffee tasting great.

    After I received the product, I was following the instructions to set it up for the first time but ai couldn’t get it to work. It displayed an error message and I wemt through the troubleshooting steps multiple times but it did not work. Now that I read through the reviews it seems to be an issue with most the products in this series, it’s a manufacturing/ design problem.

    The customer support phone number went straight to voice-mail… they called me back the next day but I told them I already returned the product.

    I had to request a return shipping label and still waiting for my refund. This was a nightmare, I do not recommend ordering the product.

    Very attractive and easy to use. I own a salon and have it displayed at my coffee bar. Clients love a cappuccino while they wait.
    When ordering from my mobile device, everything went very smooth. After checking my order, on the computer, at home, the website stated that this item doesn’t ship to Toronto. I found this odd because it let me continue to place the order. I decided to wait and see before cancelling. It did, in fact, ship right to my business, in Toronto!

    Machine is ok. Nice shiny and easy to use but the seller forget to ship me the capsule bin and maintenance stuff which needed for the setting up the machine.

    And the worst thing is I have to pay the shipping cost for the machine to arrive incomplete and another shipping to ship the incomplete machine back to the seller. How nice.

    Since moving to the USA from Europe I’ve been missing my dolce gusto machine so much, I was even considering ordering one from Japan at one point 😂 I found out they were available here now and immediately purchased one. I saw there was a used one available with a 30 day return so I figured it was safe to order at only $200. I scored, big time! Machine came in the original packaging, it didn’t look used, ever, and works great! Coffee looks and tastes like it’s been made by a professional barrista and it’s extremely easy to use!!! I love that it comes with its own bin for used capsules. In a couple of minutes I can make my drink and save the $5 I’m spending at Starbucks every day!

    So I bought this Majesto machine, the 1st one came but had a defective I am not too sure why the machine has water leak after I brew my coffee pods twice OR may be I cannot add water to tank to the Max level??? I returned and asked for a replacement, the 2nd one came now I do not want to take chance so add water only below the Max level, no leak yet. Coffee pods are different than Kcups and really difficult to find in any stores, only online option. I have high expectation of flavor but to be honest, not that great. I like strong coffee taste and all their flavors are light, very little sweet but the creamy part is the best. The machine itself is easy to use and really beautiful. I found myself somewhat enjoy having coffee even not up to my standard, so I keep it. I am glad I still do not give away my old coffee machine that can use Kcups so it is still an option for the family for Kcups and cup noodle 🙂 If you like strong coffee, do not choose this line Dolce Gusto but if you like a light, good smell, and creamy taste then this is the one for you.     I had to request a replacement the first time because product was not working. Water was not been ejected properly. The replacement product I got was working fine. The only item I think is not configured properly is the coffee measure, seems like any coffee I choose is served in a very small portion, like expresso 🙁
