   Hamilton Beach this is not acceptable for a product such as coffee maker to die in such a short amount of time! I purchased this product back in Sep 7, 2022, It started to malfunction before March of 2024. Over time most of the water started being wasted through excessive steam. I pour in 12 ounces of water only for less than 7 ounces of coffee to be made. Unacceptable. I bought this because I did not want to impact the environment by using K-pods. These companies must think and care about the environment. Because now my coffee maker would end up in the landfill with many hard PO items.

   I know cold brew coffee is all the rage, and I wanted to try making some myself. So I decided to look for something in a cold brew coffee maker. I didn’t want to spend a lot on it, so this Hamilton Beach Convenient Craft coffee maker seemed perfect for my needs. This coffee maker is very simple to operate. There’s really just a power button and a knob to select either hot brew or cold brew coffee. I didn’t even have to look at the directions. And it’s very compact as well. It’s quite tall, but the base is only about 10”x8”. It’s important to me that the coffee maker stores easily as I’m not planning on leaving it out. My first test of the coffee maker came brewing a cup of hot coffee. There’s a permanent filter in the maker you need to use as there are no paper filters to fit this thing. It will hold enough coffee for a 16oz cup….probably about 4 scoops with how I make it. It brewed my 8 oz cup of coffee in about 2 minutes. But unfortunately it was only lukewarm at best…definitely not the ‘piping-hot’ coffee claimed in the description. Too bad because I was liking this coffee maker up to this point. The second cup of coffee I brewed was cold brew style. It took about 5 minutes for that. It seemed like a long time for a cold cup of coffee, but I guess it can take a lot longer than that. I really just found out, though, that I’m not a fan of cold brewed coffee. Oh well. I’ll keep the machine for the cold brew feature, but this coffee maker is pretty much useless for making hot coffee. I’ll stick to my pod machin

   I’m one for reading instructions, but this machine is really simple to use. It has two buttons (power and Bold) and a knob with two options (cold brew and hot). You could get by without reading every letter, honestly. Just pour the amount of water you want in the back reservoir with the cup you’re going to use (leave room for any ice or creamer) putting the cup in the staging area, put your grounds in the basket (Ok, yeah, read the instructions for that part, there’s a handy chart for the recommended amounts there. Don’t go over 6Tbsp), put the basket’s case back on the machine (lock it first), choose your desired settings, and press power. In about a minute or less, you have coffee – cold or hot. The cold brew isn’t truly COLD, but it’s not hot, either. I’ve attached pictures of the machine making my most recent glass of iced coffee. I start out with a little less than half my glass filled with ice and creamer (I measure about half the glass for the water for the coffee, too, which is already in the machine). The images are in sequence, and by the last image, you can see the amount of ice that has melted. Unless you like really weak coffee, the BOLD button is necessary for cold brew!

   The Hamilton Beach 42501 convenient craft rapid cold brew and hot coffee maker, made in China, is designed to brew a 16 oz. to-go cup of coffee. A cold brew takes up to 6 minutes, while a hot brew completes in half the time. As convenient as all this seems, this has got to be one of the worst coffee machines I’ve ever used. There is no water gauge, so I must measure water in a measuring cup. This machine doesn’t use pods but has a complicated brew basket with a mesh filter. Plus, making coffee means making a spattered mess all over the counter. The coffee maker requires removing the brew basket from the machine, twisting the top off, and adding grounds based on the ounces of water. Instead of the normal tablespoon per 6 oz cup of water for hot coffee, this machine recommends 5 ounces of water instead. More accurately, hot-brew needs 1g/2 Tbsp grounds per oz. water. Cold-brew uses 1.75g/.4 Tbsp per oz. Of course, you can adjust these amounts as desired. Once the coffee capsule is loaded and returned to the coffee maker, place your desired cup/mug under the brew basket. Then adjust the dial to hot or cold, press the bold button if desired, and press the power button. The coffee machine makes a whirring sound and drips brew into the drinking vessel. While the coffee is brewing, you can clean the coffee ring off the counter from filling the brew basket. Then after the coffee has finished brewing, clean all the spatter off surrounding items and the counter. The Hamilton Beach 42501 convenient craft rapid cold brew and hot coffee maker makes a good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the design is horrible; I hate this coffee maker.    I hate pod coffee but love single serve but hate waiting for water to boil so this one checks off all my boxes – a great cup of coffee in no time (that’s really hot!) The last one i had was so messy, spewed water & grounds everywhere not anymore – i got the white so i would keep it clean but there’s little to no mess Haven’t tried the cold brew yet but if it works at all, for this price, even more incredible Edit: have used the cold brew several times – easy to use & makes a great cup of iced coffee

    I am in LOVE with this coffeemaker! I am leaving a detailed review since this product is new and there are not many reviews on it. This is a dual purpose HOT AND COLD coffeemaker. The COLD brew coffee had an excellent flavor. I used 2.5 tbsp for an 8oz cold brew as opposed to the 2 tbsp I would normally use for traditional hot coffee. The cold brew finished brewing much faster that described in the directions—it took about 3-4 minutes to complete. THE ICE REMAINED SOLID AND UNMELTED; this means that the cold brew function is brewing at the right temperature. Many current cold/hot brewers melt the ice in the cup during the brewing process, watering down the coffee. This one brewed at the perfect temperature and kept the flavor strong and the ice frozen. We added some heavy cream and Ghiradelli chocolate syrup for a delicious iced mocha. The hot brew function is easy to use and delivers a robust cup of coffee. There is also a BOLD setting to amp up the depth of your brew. The filter is easy to use—NO NEED FOR EXPENSIVE COFFEE PODS!! I no longer have to try to fill the reusable Keurig filters and spill grounds all over the counter. This filter is easy to fill and also EASY TO CLEAN! I just rinse it out at the sink and it’s ready to go. There is also no fine particles or grit in the coffee after brewing—the filter does a good job of keeping the sediment out. The water reservoir is also easy to use. Inside the reservoir are markings indicating various amounts (8, 12, and 16oz). Or, you can fill up the cup you plan to drink from with water and pour that into the reservoir. You only put the amount of water in the reservoir that you need! The buttons are easy to use. When you hit the power button the machine lights up; the light turns off when the brew is complete. Simply turn the dial up for iced coffee or down for traditional hot coffee. At the base of the machine is a cup rest with drip tray for any extra drops of coffee at the end of the brew. The cup rest is easy to move and easily accommodates a 16oz cup. If you drink more than 16oz cup then it won’t fit under the machine. I purchased some Strata acrylic tumblers off coffeemakers.us.com; they’re a perfect fit for the machine. Unpacking the machine was easy and there is really no setup necessary. You just need to take the filter out and wash the components for first use. The only quirk I have found with the machine is the filter housing and it’s lid. You have to twist the filter lid into the locking position before inserting it into the filter stand. It’s easy once you find the marks, but you might have a little trouble lining up the marks at first. I am absolutely amazed at this machine for so many reasons. Comparative machines cost $100-$200. Right now Ninja and Mr Coffee have comparable products, but for a much higher cost and with a lot more functions (overly complicated). This machine is affordable and surprisingly simple to use. It makes hot or cold coffee fast. No gimmicks! It’s size is perfect and take up way less space than my previous Keurig 2.0. I will never go back to a Keurig; in the end, all the coffee just tasted terrible no matter how many times I took the machine apart and cleaned it. I highly recommend this product! 1. It’s EXTREMELY EASY to use! 2. It’s easy to clean the filter and drip tray. 3. The filter is easy to fill with grounds. 4. Hot and cold brew FAST. 5. Cold brew tastes strong and has great flavor! 6.     Hamilton Beach 42501 Convenient Craft Rapid Cold Brew and Hot Coffee Maker 16 oz. Capacity Single Serve Grounds Brewer, Black I am still a bit mixed on this coffee maker. It does excel in some areas but there are a couple of flaws that do get a little annoying. The design is interesting and for the most part, I do like this. I wanted something for single-cup brews because I noticed how much I was wasting by making full or even half pots on some days with my other machine. This machine has an easy-to-access capsule that comes out of the machine. I find it’s best to not open it until I have it over the sink because a few times I put a bit too much coffee in the pod and had a mess. If you do like iced coffee I think this is one of the easier machines for making it. I don’t use that feature but I do see how this would be a simple way to make it since that piece that you load the coffee and ice into pops out. That whole aspect of the pod is very smooth which I like. When you pop the pod back in it’s just a matter of pushing down the water dispenser and turning it on. Doesn’t get much easier than that. Another feature is the bold brewing. I have only tested this out a few times but I can notice a difference when it’s on versus off. Flaws as I mentioned earlier are little things but annoying. First off, the overfill hole they put in the back. What a terrible location to put that. It’s almost like I want to fill it over the sink. There is a hole in the back of the machine where you fill the water and when you reach that level it just pours out the back of the machine. It makes a mess if you don’t notice it quickly. To top that off, it’s hard to see the level indicators since their marked in black numbers on black plastic. The pod that pops out also could use a little work because when you pop that open sometimes it takes a bit of force and I have had that lead to spilling grounds. This I now do over the sink. The cord is also too short. I have to keep this really within arms reach of an outlet. For the price, I think the inconveniences are still worth getting this machine. Hamilton Beach has generally been reliable in my experiences. So it makes me hopeful that this will last for a bit. I can put up with the minor annoyances so long as the list doesn’t grow from here. I do like the convenience of this machine. I’m not certain if I would order another of these but for apartment or dorm settings I think the value of this at its current price is certainly tempting.

    UPDATE-I have only had this coffee pot for a month and now I’m downgrading it from 3 stars to 2 since now when it brews it does not fill my cup even a third of the way. I use it for tea so all it is doing is running water through it and it can’t even do that. DO. NOT BUY THIS! WASTE OF MONEY!

    This coffee maker has a small footprint which I like. It splatters when it drips into a regular size mug. A travel mug does better with it as it catches more of the splattering coffee. Coffee tastes fine, but I’ve had better too. Would be nice if the water reservoir was removable but it’s not. It’s like those cheap complimentary makers in hotel rooms which are fine for a day or so, but not really what you would want for everyday use. Probably best for a college dorm or first coffee pot. Also works well for tea. All in all it’s okay, but for the money I was disappointed.

    When I set it for bold brew it will stop 1/2 way and won’t continue so I do regular brew (which I like anyway) My biggest complaint is when it’s almost done it will make a final blast of air to get all the coffee out and that splatters on my counter so I lean an old magazine opened in the middle to catch the splatter. What I like about it is: it makes a good 16 oz’s of coffee ( in my 18oz cup) pretty fast and it’ makes a good hot and tasty cup of coffee.

    Not only did this come dirty and damaged, it just doesn’t get hot enough to make strong tasting coffee, even with the bold setting on. I figured this out after a month. I booked the water with my kettle prior to filling the Hamilton and it made perfect coffee. Hence it doesn’t get hot enough on its own. The iced coffee was ok until it wasnt..the first cup was great. The others insanely watery. I’ve purchased all kinda of coffee. Dark espresso roasts, etc…same outcome. I bought Starbucks Concentrate and I will use nrewed iced coffee from my iced french press as the water. This makes WAY better coffee. I will figure something out for the hot coffee. This ain’t it.

    TLDR: Descale this machine like the manual says, and it will last as intended. I bought this as a Christmas gift for myself and have regularly used it since ( nine months so far). I remember previously reading low reviews about it quiting after a few months of usage. After about 4 months of use, mine stopped brewing coffee too. HOWEVER in my case, it was lack of maintenance. I put coffee machine descaler through it, let it sit, and it ran like new. It has reliably ran since, and I continue to maintenance it like the manual says to. I will update this review if it eventually does quit forever. It makes good coffee in a matter of minutes, it’s easy to clean, and it’s convenient for me. I only use it for the hot brew, so I can’t say if the cold brew function is as good. The only hiccup was my own fault. I have had it for nine months at the time of this review.
