   We have used this coffee Brewer every day for about a year and unfortunately, just realized today while washing it with normal dishwashing liquid, that the interior coating was peeling!    I was on the hunt for a new coffee maker after my old one “went over the rainbow bridge” following a long stint limping on its last dregs – I mean, on its last legs. This Hamilton Beach 10-cup model with a thermal carafe now sits in its space. While this model has some features that I appreciate, it also has some that I’m not keen on – and a few that I feel are problematic or that detract from its usefulness. Let me address each of those areas. FEATURES I APPRECIATE: • It makes decent tasting coffee. • It takes up less space on the counter than my old Krups. • There’s a large opening for the water reservoir, reducing spill risk during filling. • Filter basket is removable, so it can be filled without risking grounds getting into the water. • There are 3 adjustable brew-strengths – Regular, Bold, and Robust. • Handy automatic shut-off feature once brew cycle is complete. • It can make a full 10-cup pot in about 8 to 10 minutes. • Thermal carafe can maintain a temperature around 150° to 155° F for several hours. • Clock has a bright, easy to read display. FEATURES I’M NOT SO KEEN ON: • While brewing, this one sometimes wheezes like an old man with COPD. • Water reservoir window is only useful if making 6 or more cups – fewer than that, and you’ll need a measuring cup. • Buttons used for “Program,” “Hour,” and “Minute” wiggle and feel a bit flimsy, so it’s unclear how they’ll hold up over time. FEATURES THAT ARE PROBLEMATIC FOR ME: • Coffee doesn’t so much pour from the spout as it “dribbles” – much like a male octogenarian who has prostate problems. • Once the carafe has less than 2 or 3 cups it needs to be held almost upside-down for any coffee to dribble out. • It takes 2 hands to pour since the “Press to Pour” lever must be used. For smaller hands, it’s not easy to both hold the pot handle *and* press down on the lever at the same time. • It takes 2 hands to twist open and remove the lid from the carafe – it has a *very* tight fit. • Since the “Press to Pour” lever is needed to help lift the lid off the carafe, it may have a limited life expectancy. • Even with carafe lid off and the pot held upside down, it still doesn’t completely empty – some coffee remains inside due to an internal ridge. • A bottle brush is needed to clean the inside of the carafe since a hand or sponge won’t fit through the opening. BOTTOM LINE: This particular Hamilton Beach coffee maker makes decent tasting coffee and I think it has some positive features. That said, it also has more than a few not-so-positive ones that you probably should consider before making your decision. But different people have different needs and preferences, so what doesn’t work well for me might be acceptable for you.

The stronger settings will distributes water more slowly, like a traditional poor over. – Stainless Steel Thermos – Programmable Timer Cons: – Print / symbols already faded on plastic – Hot plate does not stay on, no way to keep it on. While brewing, hot plate heats thermos, but after a half or so the plate is off and no longer hot. Thermos keeps liquid hot for a couple hours or less. This device need a way to keep the coffee at 195º or so (no greater than 205º) for SEVERAL hours BY CHOICE. – Difficult to fill water container, plastic channel reaches across middle section. Poor design. Needs large opening in back – Spout of thermos and partial inside lip is plastic, HARD TO CLEAN (I had to buy a special round sponge on a handle to get in the small hole with my big hands LOL) – Water measure reader only on one side. – Light is not dimmable. Very bright blue Led. – Too much plastic! Wish someone made an all metal / glass brewing machine. I AM VERY CURIOUS WHY THERE IS NO ALL METAL AND GLASS COFFEE MAKERS AVAILABLE?

   I bought one of these about three years ago and the heating element died last week. I order another of the same model so it’s obvious I like the product. I chose this model because it doesn’t have a heating element under the carafe so the coffee doesn’t burn (I don’t like burnt coffee). The carafe is double-walled stainless and keeps the coffee hot for several hours. It also has a robust setting that sends the hot water into the grounds at a slower pace so you get a richer flavor; you can tell the difference between the three settings. In any case, I really like this coffee maker. It’s worked well for me so far.

    I love Hamilton Beach but not this pot. This needs to go right back to the design table and get a redo. Here’s the deal, it’s early 0 dark thirty, I’m half awake stumbling into the kitchen to make coffee and here is what I encountered. 1-I couldn’t get the damn filter basket to line up, see video. It only goes in one way and that’s something I can’t deal with when I’m still asleep let alone awake. 2-a locking lid? ARG! Left or right let’s see, oh I gotta find my glasses first, back downstairs then back upstairs ok turn a big light on, Ouch that’s bright! Still not awake but now I’m for sure closer. Ok, it’s finally open. 3-it’s just me, I only need two cups, What? There’s no way to see how much is in the carafe, I’ll look on the side of the pot, ok, there’s only a line for 6,8 or 10 cups but I just want 2, now what? 4-i guess I’ll make 6 cups, the water well is nice and large shouldn’t spill a drop on the counter …..NO! This thing pours like a thin stream on a clogged water line, you have to turn the pot almost upside down to make it pour. Ok, take the lid off first, Oh not again. Well, that made a mess pours like it has three spouts in three different directions water everywhere. Note to self, don’t fill the water well with carafe. I can’t get past these issues with this coffee maker. I need simplicity in the early morning, something that doesn’t piss me off, something that I can work almost blindfolded.I need coffe before I’m suppose to think this hard and for Goodness sake, put a waterline on the thing for 2 cups 4 cups etc. not everyone drinks a whole pot of coffee!

    The insulated coffee pot did not keep the coffee warm and it did not have a heated pad it sat on. The measuring scale for the amount of water was incorrect by about 20%. When you poured coffee it always dribbled and splattered in and around the cup. It was relatively expensive.

I did some troubleshooting and the performance is tied to a broken seal — stopped keeping the coffee hot. It has a dark bubble on the lower part of the pot at the seal line.     I bought this to replace my 13-year-old Hamilton Beach. One requirement was the thermal carafe, which this model has. I also prefer a cone-style filter system, which this has as well. It keeps the coffee hot for the amount of time I need, but there is one major flaw: the lid backs up quite a bit, making a huge mess on my counter top. It doesn’t matter how much or how little I make, or if I pull it mid-brew to pour a cup. The result is the same: the coffee simply won’t drain through consistently into the carafe, and ends up running all over the place.

The cost was well below many other brands and it has many “bells and whistles”.     While it does it’s work being coffee, it falls miserably in quality and engineering. Why would a coffee maker with a thermos can have a heading coil under the thermos can, except to waste electricity? Why would a machine that most buy to save electricity have a permanently lit up display, for no other reason than to increase the consumption of electricity? This forces us to unplug the coffee maker after every use. But even if you ignore both because you don’t care about your bills – just take a look at the buttons. The holes for the buttons are significantly too big which proves horrible producing tolerances. The plastic piece for the filter is so baldy engineered that it doesn’t even slip into place. It actually takes me five to ten seconds every time just to fumble it back in after dumping the coffee filter. Another sign that the design was made by a blind six year old. The can itself holds the coffee warm for quite some time. Unfortunately, they’ve proven – once again – not to bother about efficiency or logical thinking by designing the can and lid in a way that you’ll never be able to get “all” (meaning any reasonable amount apart from some drops) out of the can. Maybe I’m getting old and just remember what German engineering once was and am being naive hoping for something similar with an old and established brand in the US. Most of the problems could be solved easily, some would even save money. But for whatever reason, kitchenaid doesn’t bother.

    I got this Hamilton Beach thermal coffee maker because I like to be able to adjust how much coffee I use and how strong I make it. I have a keurig but you can only put so much ground coffee in the reusable k cup and it just not strong enough most of the time. I like that this Hamilton Beach gives you 3 brew strengths, regular, bold, and robust. It works great especially when I’m using different coffee’s and I can adjust it to be the perfect taste. I like that it has the thermal carafe because nothing is worse than coffee sitting on a hot plate and getting burnt. I wouldn’t say the carafe keeps the coffee hot for as long as I was expecting but it doesn’t really bother me because I just put my cup in the microwave if not hot enough. Now I can atleast start my coffee before I get up for work in the morning as before I couldn’t because I take more coffee to work than what the Keurig makes at once. I’m glad I went back to a simple coffee maker that brews a pot.

    Very nice coffee maker! It is stainless steel and has the thermos that keep’s coffee hot and tastes fresh. I woke up 2 hrs after the coffee was brewed and it was still piping hot. The night before I tested it with water to see how long it takes to brew a whole pot, it took exactly 13 minutes. It has an easy pull out basket with a handle that you lift it out with. To pour the coffee from the thermos you have to push the lever to open the spout. The time was easy to set and program. This coffee maker uses the cone shaped filters. I’m very pleased with this product.

    We really like this coffee maker; it is replacing our 10-year-old Melitta. It is easy to use and clean. The main reason that we picked this one is it uses a cone filter which we prefer. Our only complaint it that the handle on the carafe was installed crooked. It doesn’t affect the performance of the unit, just looks odd. Hamilton Beach wanted us to destroy it before the would send us a voucher to buy another one. this coffee maker is only a month old.

    I bought this exact same coffee maker 10 years ago except it was branded Melita back then. I makes very good coffee and I like a thermal carafe rather than a pot sitting on a burner.

    I woke up Friday morning and my old coffee maker was completely dead. I was able to order this one and get it the same day! Normally I really don’t care how long the shipping takes but when you need coffee it suddenly becomes important!

    Coffee turns out great, has three settings of “Regular”, “Bold” and “Robust”. Steel carafe is very nice and solid, no worries about dropping and shattering. Looks good, I like the blue light and the timer feature. Very happy with the purchase.
    A couple things are different:
    1) the plate underneath does not stay on for long; carafe is apparently designed to keep coffee hot, which is does reasonably well – but not for as long as with coffee makers where the plate stays hot until you turn it off. This is a minus for some, but a plus for me because if I forget about it I don’t return an hour later to burnt, sludgy coffee. So I’m fine with that.
    2) Don’t try pouring a cup before the pot is brewed, because when you remove the pot the brewing coffee will keep dripping and you’ll have to wipe up the underplate later. All other machines I’ve had (other than single-cup Senseo, of course), stop dripping when you remove the pot, resuming when you place it back in. I like to jump the gun and pour some before the pot is done, so that’s a slight negative for me.

    Oh man, I love this coffee maker! I had a different Hamilton Beach coffee maker model with Alexa connectivity, but honestly I don’t have any other Alexa products and downloaded the app just to get that functionality. With this model, it has much better controls without needing any Alexa usage. It’s got even more brewing options, still has the programmable timing for brewing coffee in the morning. It has that thermal carafe which ends up pouring a much better tasting cup of coffee the second, third or fourth cup than a model whose carafe sits on a hot plate, leaving the coffee kinda tasting scorched after some time. I’m much happier with this model than the other and it looks great in my home office coffee bar! Been brewing pot after pot with it and it works great!

    The lining of the carafe is separating from the inside of the container. Yes it is out of warranty as I purchased it 23 months ago, but be real this shouldn’t happen.
