   The design of this product is flawed to the point of it being essentially worthless. To boot, the manufacturer is completely unresponsive and apparently unwilling to stand behind their product. The particular problem that I encounter with every use is that the flow of water quickly diminishes from the recommended 2 drips/3 seconds to nothing in a very short amount of time. Re-adjust the drip rate and the problem occurs again. This is likely due to the fact that the valve lacks sensitivity–there is no change in the flow rate through 70% of the valve adjustment range, and then once the flow rate does start to change, micro-adjustments to the lever (i.e. so small that I can barely control it) lead to incommensurately large adjustments to the flow rate. If you attempt to compensate by setting the initial rate higher than suggested, the result will be: a) the same as described if just barely above the recommended rate; b) a flood if set high enough to finish the brew process without re-adjustment; or c) an inferior cup of coffee. There is a simple solution to this in properly engineering the valve, but apparently Hario couldn’t figure that for their $260 product. If you’re looking for a cold drip coffee system, I suggest you purchase another manufacturer’s product.

   This product is great. Based on a visit to one of my favorite coffee shops, they do the drip at 1 drop/3 seconds and it’s a great result. Also comes with a 12g measuring scoop and recommendations on coffee weight to water ratios which worked great for me. The set up looks great as well. Of course, make sure you use high quality grounds.

   From Lauren Hines: So far, so good. The dripper is a bit imprecise, but the Hario product works nicely and, while this may or may not be important to most, it looks wonderful on our counter. Though I do think the coffee it “produces” is clear in flavor and texture–there are less expensive alternatives. But this was a birthday gift and a nice indulgence for for this kitchen junkie who loves cool-drip (kyoto style).

   LOVE THIS> I start this in the evening and in the morning I have enough coffee for my wife and daughter. It is very pretty and easy to use. You can control the strength by how much coffee you use. trick is to water as you fill your grounded beans.

   Die Anleitung ist auf Japanisch/Englisch mit Bildern, leicht zu verstehen auch wenn man die Sprache nicht beherrscht. Auseinander/Zusammen bauen des Filtersystems zum reinigen geht sehr leicht und ohne Probleme. Das Ventilsystem wirkt solide und haltbar, lässt sich sehr exakt einstellen. Es ist ein Tütchen mit etwa 10 der benötigten runden Papier Filter dabei.

   Mit dem normalen “teuren” Kaffee Bohnen aus dem Supermarkt (eher unpräzise auf die schnelle) getestet, und festgestellt das der Kaffee dadurch extrem stark werden kann, präzise Feinabstimmung ist schon nötig. Hilfreich sind einige Seiten im Internet die den Prozess exakt beschreiben.

   I have made a few great jars of coffee with this and a few so-so jars. You need to get used to it and figure out the right balance. Unfortunately, this unit was rendered useless by my losing of the metal filter. Hario does not offer replacements for it, however, every single other part is available, so feel free to break/lose those. This really sucks.

   Gravity fed dripper means that it requires constant attention and tap adjustment throughout the process.

   You probably want about a drip every 2 seconds for 500ml over 18 hours but as the water level drops so does the pressure and it eventually just stops unless you keep opening the tap a little more progressively.

   If you don’t mind watching your whole 18 hour extraction this is the cold brewer for you!

   おいしい水出しコーヒーが飲めます。手入れも簡単です。見た目のレトロではありません。goodです。モダンな飾りっ気のない無機質感が私にはよいです。ただ水の調整コックは水の量で落ちるスピードが変わるため微調整が必要になることがありました。大変いい買い物だと思っています。
