   This is my go-to for when I want more than a single cup. My only complaint is that you’re not supposed to put it on the stove to keep warm. It is microwaveable though. I tend to use a metal Yeti coffee cup so I definitely can’t microwave that!

   If you’re like me, you know that with a nice automatic drip brewer it is possible to brew great coffee. In fact, I prefer drip coffee to many other methods, because, though not necessarily as raw-tasting as other methods, when done correctly a high-quality basket brewer yields incredibly transparent coffee that holds tremendous amounts of a coffee’s natural flavors. However, I wanted to move away from the automatic world and into this very traditional method of high-quality coffee brewing. So, I purchased this Hario Drip Pot and and am thoroughly excited about its potential. It yields the complexity close to that of an aforementioned drip brew, with a smoothness reminiscent of a vacuum/syphon pot. And this is my second try at it- I’m still new to the method. The glass is well shaped and pours smoothly for most of the pot, getting only a little shaky for the last 4 or so oz, but does not spill or drip down the pot at all. The plastic cone is very nice quality, somewhere between molded plastic and ceramic (it’s plastic, but really does feel similar to ceramic). Great size for personal or a guest or two. The handle is a little small, but really, that’s not a problem.

   This is a great coffee maker. I got it on the recommendation of watching some youtube channel for good pour over units. The glass is nice, easy to clean. Has markings on it so you know your volumes. The top takes #2 filters, and is plastic. Pretty easy to clean as well. It takes some getting used to if you’ve never made pour over before. Watch some youtube videos and you’ll get the hang of it in no time.

   I returned the item because the plastic handle and band around the glass looked cheap and poorly executed. Astatically speaking, it had no place in my kitchen and I was disappointed that Hario would release such a product. I highly recommend the Hario v60 Drip Decanter as an alternative.

    I have a Bonavita 5 cup, coffee snob approved, automatic pour over machine . It makes good coffee, but it is more troublesome to clean than it needs to be. It doesn’t pour well without the spout screwed on, and that spout bit wasn’t made to be cleaned. Most days I’m just pouring the whole pot into a big ol’ travel mug, so the vacuum carafe isn’t helpful. This carafe/filter basket can be used in place of the Bonita pieces and are sooo much easier to clean. Filter basket it easy to remove and dump. The opening is big enough for most hands to clean it with a sponge. If your hands are bigger than average, you can hit everything easily with a brush. It doesn’t need an extra piece just to pour either. My first few brews, I used 03 filters I already had an open package of, and they worked just fine. This carafe along with my Bonita machine has really simplified my morning routine without sacrificing my coffee quality. This carafe was pretty cheap too (low cost, not low quality). It’s thin glass, so you need to be careful around hard surfaces, and it won’t keep your coffee warm all morning but it fit my need perfectly.

    My first impression when I received it was that it was much bigger than I had thought. It was bigger than how it looked in pictures. The size of the top cover and bottom is 5″ and the height is 7″. The capacity is 24 oz, which is measured to close to the bottom of the dripper sitting in it. After much research, I chose this one over the popular Hario V60 Drip Decanter because this one has a cover and looks more classy. Another advantage of it is that the capacity is 1000ml (or close to 36 oz) measured to the neck, when dripper is removed and you can use it for other purpose like storing ice tea. So far I have enjoyed using it. It is very simple and easy to clean. Also it makes decent pouring coffee.

    I deduct one star because of two reasons. First, the handle is a little too short. The handle is only 2.5″ long for holding, though just enough for my hand, it runs too short for my husband’s hand. Second, the cover on top is very big and covers up the spout, as a result when pouring coffee, you can not see the action of coffee running from the spout and that is a big minus.
