   This machine makes a relatively good espresso with its “Illy iperespresso pods”. I love espresso’s but between work, kids, etc., I don’t have time to mess with more complex machines, fresh beans, etc. I needed something that would make a decent espresso quickly and this machine does that. The Classico pods make the perfect dopio sized, classic flavor, espresso and the Brasile makes a smaller espresso with a hint of caramel and chocolate notes. I purchased this exactly 2 years ago (2022) and it’s still running flawlessly and my wife and I use it every day.

   I actually really like this machine. With reusable filters, it makes great coffee (the pods are expensive over time). BUT … the tiny little plastic piece broke that acts as a hinge for the shelf – which is also used as the handle to clean out the used filter compartment. So now I have to put my espresso cup on the lower shelf and it splashes all over. It’s still functional, so I’ll keep using it. But I’m sad. This espresso machine was a special present to myself. I set up a coffee station and everything.

   This is my second one of these. I love the very small size but it makes perfect espresso. For my lattes, I use a small battery operated frother after heating the milk in the microwave. They rival anything you can get at Starbucks for a quarter of the cost!
   Now, 2 years later, after multiple descaling cycles, it just dribbles out. Seems like the pumps has failed. I need the small size for my space, but am hesitant to buy another.

   Coming from someone who roasts his own green beans and uses a Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder, I was looking for simplicity, speed and style. I bought the Y3.3 and the Illy frother. I will say that the frother, with some practice, can produce acceptable milk. Latte art? Maybe. Macchiato level coffee. Pretty close. The Y3.3 does ok but it takes two capsules to get close to what I want. If you preheat the cup prior to brewing, the temperature is good. Same class as Rancilio? No. Less labor and footprint? Absolutely. Unfortunately the Illy love affair ends here. The ordering of the capsules is confusing. I did figure it out eventually. Always I have to have the branded cups. Package had damaged items. Replaced? Not as of this writing. They said they would. Website? That is where the horror exists. Account set up, password reset, machine serial number registration all managed by Italo Bombolini in Santa Vittoria Italia. Links and buttons seemingly useless or directed to places unknown. Very stylish but utterly useless. Bottom line: Looks great, taste good, but…….any time and aggravation saved by this downgrade has been overshadowed by disappointing support. Maybe the Russians hacked their website? Or, zee Germans. Would I buy it again. Nope. Nespresso. I saw many of those machines in Italy. I didn’t see any Illy Y3.3’s. Just saying…

   I love this little machine. The coffee capsules and espresso capsules make delicious coffee products in this machine. It’s very easy to use. I also invested in a set of two stainless steel reusable pods for coffee and espresso instead of buying the capsules all the time. I’ve used the reusable cups a couple of times and have had good results; still playing around with that though. My only complaint is the huge power cable on this machine. It’s way too long, plus it’s a super heavy-duty cord with a plug that sticks out from the outlet at least an inch more than a regular plug. The cord is very inflexible making it very difficult to position the machine against the wall because the cord won’t bend. Because the water container is at the back of the machine, I can’t hide the excess cord behind the machine without making it difficult to get to the water container. AND the machine I have is white and the cord is black. This is one of my pet peeves – a white appliance that has a black cord. Other than the cord issue, the machine itself is very satisfactory and makes good tasting coffee and espresso.

   I liked this enough that I bought it again for a second home. The espresso pods are bizarrely over-engineered, but the end result is a hot espresso with an excellent crema. The narrow profile means it doesn’t take up much counter space. It’s a great little machine and a good value at its price point. That being said, I would recommend the Intenso pods for espresso, and the Classico Lungo pods of you want more of a coffee. The decaf pods are ok. I found the Brasilia and Columbia pods so bad as to be undrinkable. But that’s just an opinion. The machine itself is excellent and the Intenso pods produce the best espresso I’ve tasted from the field of its competitors, ie Nespresso, etc.

   I would recommend against. I have had this a few weeks. 1. the volume of water for the espresso is supposed to be settable, but mine varies dramatically. 2. this morning the try that holds the espresso cup fell off. it is held on by these 4 small red pieces of plastic that just disintegrated with no kids in house or anyone else abusing machine. 3. it makes a crema sometime. but is inconsistent. . so now I have a machine that makes poor espresso, inconsistent water levels, its hard to get the used pods out without this red deck for the cup and I have $100 worth of espresso I have bought but will never use because I will not buy another illy unless they warranty this one.

    Very good machine, but if you want a good coffee you need to buy Brésil coffee from Illy, if not some coffee it does not fit the machine and the coffee can be horrible !
