   This is really a nice addition for my jetboil system. One complaint — it needs a snap on plastic cup to allow it to be attached to the jetboil — with the typical jetboil setup for storage this nice little french press does not allow you to pack it all together — if they made a snap on plastic cup attachment that could connect to the jetboil lid or botton this would make the entire system handy — as is you have to pack them separately and keep track of the parts which can be problematic when back packing.

    I enjoy using my Jetboil Flash and never had this press kit but wanted to do more on my camping trips to get away from instant coffee, so decided to get the French Press for my Jetboil and is has worked out great so far. I am not used to using a French Press, so still learning that to get the perfect cup of coffee, but that is a user issue and not a product issue. My favorite part of this is that the metal rod breaks down into two pieces which allows it easily pack completely inside the Jetboil which for me make packing much easier for motorcycle camping where space is at a premium.

    My husband wanted this for his “Jetboil”. He camps a lot with our 2 teenagers and this comes in handy for loose leaf tea; as well as, coffee. My husband and kids are not coffee drinkers, but do like tea. Tea or coffee are pretty much made the same way. Simply heat the water up in the “Jetboil”, then add the loose leaf tea and let it steep for around 5 minutes (a little less for coffee). Then press the french press (which has already been inserted through the hole in the lid of the Jetboil) and press down. The silicone ring keeps any dregs or tea leaves from getting into your cup. This is simple to use and honestly French pressed drinks usually taste better. This cleans up fairly easy. Blast it with a sprayer when you get home, but just slosh it around in water while you’re out camping. This press comes apart and actually stores right inside of our “Jetboil”. Make sure to store the stem pieces on top of the press, so that it can be pulled out later by screwing the stem piece back into the press.

    I have the Jetboil Flash and bought the original French press accessory for making coffee on the go and giving my Jetboil yet another purpose than just water for camping meals or some other cooking. The original press didn’t have the silicone ring as you see in my photo and perhaps it was just my original model that seemed a little warped but the biggest issue I had was that it wasn’t completed effective at pressing and trapping all grounds so you might end up with a little bit of cowboy coffee. That is where this new press appears to be a perfect improvement! I have had no issues using it and not end up with grounds in my finished cup of coffee. Other than the press itself, the collapsible pole appears the same and mounts right through the lid of the Jetboil Flash so you can easily press and even enjoy the coffee from the Jetboil or pour it into a mug. With this new improvement the only thing that might be more difficult is a worthwhile tradeoff in my opinion. And that’s if you like to store all your accessories in the Jetboil itself, I’d think you want to push the press all the way down and unscrew the pole for pressing but then would have to use the pole to screw it back in and pull it out when needed since it’s such a snug fit around the cylinder now. The original press was easy to drop in and shake out but seems to be the necessary tradeoff for keeping your coffee ground-free in your cup. You may want to shop around as prices seem to vary a bit on this. For reference I paid $10 for the original press in 2019 from an outdoor recreation store and see they sell the improved model for $18 where I see on coffeemakers.us.com its quite a bit more currently.

    I’ve only heard complaints and grumblings about the old style- that grounds would make it through into your coffee. I mean, that’s okay if you’re a cowboy… Works well, and packs away easily inside the cup of my Flash. Cleaning takes a little wash and rinse then you’re good to go.

    I have the new designed French press with the silicone edges. I am satisfied with the press. There is a little residual grit at the bottom, but if this little amount bothers you, You probably shouldn’t be camping and should stay indoors.

    Even in the instructions that came with it, this appears to have a lid with a hole in it to fit the stem and keep your beverage hot, and bug and ash free. Not even sure what to buy for it to remedy this, other than buying another beverage/cook kit specifically for that purpose. I don’t need any more titanium. Otherwise, it does its french press duties nicely.
