Overview
- NOTE: This is not a coffee roaster. It is used to cool the coffee beans, prevent the beans from being over-roasted, and retain better coffee flavor.
- 2 TRAYS: The upper layer cools the coffee beans, and the lower layer collects chaffs. The cooler of the single-layer tray can easily drop the chaffs into the fan, which can damage the service life of the fan.
- QUICK COOLING: It can cool 1.1lb (500g) of coffee beans within 2 minutes. Gently stirring the coffee beans with a spoon can accelerate the cooling rate.It is best not to exceed 1.1lb (500g) at a time.
- POWERFUL FAN: The cooler is equipped with a 35W fan, which is silent and powerful, quickly dissipating excess heat from coffee beans to prevent overheating.

I roast coffee beans every couple weeks. I used to cool the beans with a couple colanders in front of a fan. This device makes it much simpler and much more efficient. What would normally take about 5-7 minutes is reduced to about 3 minutes. Cooling the beans fast is important to preserve the roast quality.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this appliance. I had read the reviews – some glowing, some not so good, and some clueless (One person downgraded it because they thought it was supposed to roast beans as well as cool them. Good grief.). I use a venerable Fresh Roast SR500 for roasting. I have times and temperatures worked out for different roasts, but it’s still dependent on bean color and estimating how much more the beans will cook even on the roaster’s cooling cycle. The Jiawanshun allows me to stop the roast during the heating phase and rapidly cool the beans. I usually roast 165-180g of beans and the Jiawanshun cools this amount in about 2 minutes. The roast is pretty much stopped when I want due to the very efficient cooling. The cooler is very quiet, simple, easy to use and clean. It would take longer to cool more beans, but for my purposes the Jiawanshun is perfect. I would highly recommend it to anyone roasting batches of a half pound or less. It might work ok for up to a pound, but I have no experience with this amount.

I thought from the name of the machine that it would roast and cool coffee beans. It does not roast! It only cools beans. Now I have to pack it up and return it. They need to remove the word roasting. I am required to indicate rating stars so I did as it probably does a good job cooling. At least another review mentioned roasting.

This pulls the air in from the top. Stir the beans while they’re cooling to help the chaff go through the top screen with larger holes, where they settle on the bottom fine-mesh screen. It works great.
