   I purchased this as a gift to replace a plastic version of this that had gotten damaged. As a gift, it was well received and worked well until about 2 months ago when a faint cracking sound was heard when adding hot water. Upon inspection there did not seem to be any damage. Further continued use and more cracking sounds over the next few months till now when I was finally able to take a photo of it and post the pics here. It is worth mentioning that the plastic single serving coffee maker that this replaced was about 40 plus years old and the only reason it was broken was because it got wedged between some other items that cracked it. That product was made by Melitta in Germany. This replacement was made by Melitta in China. Needless to say, I am disappointed that it lasted such a short time before it cracked. It’s still useable, but for how long till it splits in two, who knows. I’m giving this 2 stars because it did/does work well, cracking due to poor quality is what makes this lose 3 stars. ************************** Update May 7th 2024: Sadly this was thrown away shortly after I wrote this review. I purchased a plastic version instead, since the older version that the ceramic one was replacing was plastic, and lasted so long.

   I very seldom leave reviews, but I am really pleased with this item. I am finally getting truly delicious, enjoyable coffee in the morning. Many reviews complained that the filter cone is too large and too heavy. Yes, it is large. Yes, it is heavy. But these are insignificant factors compared to the effectiveness of the filter cone.

   After switching to plant-based creamers I discovered that they require a larger volume of creamer to achieve the desired taste and color (who knew color mattered?). But the larger volume of creamer alters the temperature of the coffee. I actually had given up coffee for a few years as a result. Lately, I have been trying to find an alternate brewing method. Most pour-over arrangements are slow (that’s the point, after all) and result in a coffee that is not as hot.

   However, this porcelain filter cone is large enough that it takes a sufficient amount of water to allow for an adequate brew, while still dripping through quickly enough to result in a noticeably hotter cup of coffee. For me, it really is a perfect cup! I highly recommend this filter cone.

   I love my Melitta pour-over! It works exactly as expected and I’m not having the issue with liquid dripping through the openings at the bottom. I’m using #2 filters, scoop my Lavazza coffee in, place the filter loosely into the Melitta pour-over, then pour in the water once, wait for it to drain, then pour more water in until the cup is full. My coffee is delicious and I would definitely recommend this if you’re sitting on the fence about it.

   Pour-over coffee is our favorite now. We have other options but pour-over is the go to every day, and has been since nearly one year ago. We even purchased a nice gooseneck electric pour over electric kettle to make this even easier (see picture). Since first using a plastic Melitta #6 filter holder over forty years ago I’ve only used plastic ones. Looking to add another one-cup holder I found this white porcelain one. This is worth the extra cost. it won’t degrade or split from drying out over time the way plastic ones will. Granted, plastic filter holders last a long time and are mostly unbreakable. But this porcelain filter holder will outlast them all, is nice to use and look at, has a very comfortable loop handle, and is large enough for #2 or #4 filters. I’m very happily using it for #2 filters to drip coffee for my wife while I drip mine through the plastic #2 holder.

    I use this with Melita bamboo cone filters. Great little pour over, gets the job done. Easy to clean. Due to material, also can be brittle. One minor issue is the filter has to be at the sweet spot (you gotta figure that one out or adjust accordingly) or the brew will dribble down the side and may splash. Otherwise this is a decent 4 star MAYBE 4.5 stars on a good day.

    I tried to like this cone dripper. I really did.
    CONS:
    1. Takes a REALLY LONG TIME to filter coffee.
    2. The ceramic dripper acts as a “heat sink” and pulls out the heat of the liquid, cooling down your coffee.
    3. The open space between the hole at the bottom and the carafe allows the steam and heat to dissipate quite a bit cooling your coffee down.

    It’s going on the storage shelf as a backup.
    PROS:
    1. Very nice ceramic funnel dripper, quality finish, nice glaze too.

    Very wobbly on top of carafe I have tilts a bit maybe due to glazing bump on underside of rim. Sits fine on a cup but not the carafe .

    Looks great, but the design is faulty. The coffee does not drip directly down from hole to carafe, it dribbles along the edge of the cone and carafe, but also out of the cone and down the outside (see is pool up on the edge in the pic). Looks great, and has a good weight, but the design is either off or I got a lemon.

    It’s a perfectly usable Melitta filter, though it is heavier than the old plastic ones. But if you’re worried about plastic, this one is fine. I do notice a little splashing through the holes on the sides when I used it with tall cups. I haven’t dropped it yet. I suspect that would be the end.
