   Coffee maker sucks. That was my thought one second ago as I poured another “freshly ground” cup of crappy coffee. Three beans, two beans, one bean, 6 cups, 10 cups, four cups…these are the settings but, so what, setting them does not work as advertised. Not worth the money. Coffee maker is fine if you use ground.

   I am quite happy with this grind and brew machine. It replaced a Capresso unit that was far less satisfying. The coffee tastes smooth and delicious (set at medium grind and first level of strength) and the touch pad is extremely easy to operate. I want to correct a comment made about the number of cups being stuck at 10. Not true. The selector allows for 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 cups, but it is important to use the same amount of water. The only odd thing is that the markings on the water tank and on the carafe only start at 4, so trying to make just 2 cups would require a bit of estimation and inconsistency (I decided to make 4 my personal minimum instead).

   Three main control buttons stopped working. So you can’t change numbers of cups on the grind or use already ground coffee, or the strength ( bean symbol). Called Wabilogic support, and have sent a video, coffeemakers.us.com order showing I bought on March 25, 2024 , picture of box, of machine, etc and they won’t answer their phone during normal business hours but I get an email right after asking for all the same information and how would I rate their service!!! It sucks, been dealing with this since Nov 3, and it is now the 26th. I had tried 5 coffee machines with built in grinders,
   and this was the best one and I love it when it works!! But breaking after 7-8 months????? It was expensive, very disappointing. I had an old Melitta grind and brew used it for years after getting it used!! Looked online for parts for it – others were looking too. Upset that the quality and service so poor.

   I’m one of those who goes straight for the coffee first thing with virtually no waiting. Also I am looking for the best with the least amount of work. Grinding first thing in the morning is not going to happen, pour over and French Press just too much mess along with grinding the day before. Usually I end up using ground but now with this Melitta® Aroma Fresh it’s a dream come true game changer. Great fresh ground coffee in the morning and only one button and I’m ready to go, watch the news and check my email. Filling the hopper with beans last me about three days using the water at the eight cup (8) and three beans with the grind a little below the fine grind setting and the aroma of the beans and the brew just can’t be beat. My pre ground coffee was good but not quite there and I usually put in ½ teaspoon sugar and some creamer. Drinking my fresh ground coffee as I write I’m drinking it black with about ½ tsp of sugar and it’s the smoothest coffee I remember having, no creamer needed. If I have any on the down side I would like to be able to remove the door that holds the grounds. I’v said this before about others but this truly, for me, is the best coffee I have had. Regardless of price I could not be more pleased and have no reason to spend any more. Saying it again, it is the smoothest and easiest way to get fresh ground in the morning.

I like a weaker coffee as I drink it black so I program it for 2 cups but put 4 cups of water in. Perfect! It’s wonderful to have fresh ground beans.

   For me, the most essential aspect of a coffeemaker is whether it makes good coffee. This coffeemaker passes that requirement. It has some very nice features and also some that are annoying. For testing purposes, I used Starbucks’s Pike Place Whole Bean and Starbucks’s Pike Place ground coffees. I find this to be a very flavorful and satisfying roast. In addition to making good coffee, this machine looks quite lovely on the kitchen counter. Its dimensions permit it to have a small footprint, which is essential as we have limited counter space. The filter container is easy to access and is easily removed for cleaning. The steel surfaces are easy to clean. The carafe warmer plate automatically powers off at the two-hour mark, lessening the likelihood of scorching any remaining coffee contained in the carafe. The machine includes an integrated bean grinder to choose fine, medium, and coarse grind options. The freshly ground coffee is deposited into the filter bin, and the brewing process automatically begins following the completion of the grinding process. When preparing for brewing, one sets the number of cups of coffee being brewed so that the grinder can prepare the proper amount of ground coffee. The grinder has settings that allow three different strengths of coffee to be prepared. Setting the machine for a stronger brew causes it to grind more coffee. The coffeemaker provides the option of using ground rather than whole-bean coffee. I found the resulting coffee from both whole bean and ground to be delicious, although I prefer the flavor of the freshly ground whole bean coffee. The coffeemaker will produce up to ten cups of coffee. The glass carafe is well-made and fits perfectly into the machine. The coffeemaker is designed so that the carafe can be removed before the end of the brewing process to pour a cup of coffee. That’s a feature that I won’t be using, as the coffee never tastes as good as it does if I wait for the brewing process to complete fully. Included are four Melitta paper filters. They do an excellent job of filtering the coffee, not allowing any sediment to pass, and not adding any paper flavor. I will continue to use this brand of filters. For me, there are some aspects to this machine that I find annoying. Our overhead cabinets are 19 inches above the countertop surface. This creates a limited space between the top of the coffeemaker and the bottom of the cabinet. Because access to the water and coffee bean reservoirs are located on top of the coffeemaker, the limited space requires me to pull the machine out from under the cabinet each time I wish to make coffee. If you have higher cabinets, this might not be an issue for you. But for me, it’s a pain. Another annoyance is that when using the coffee grinder, I must tap or jiggle the coffeemaker for the beans to feed into the grinder properly. Otherwise, the beans will not fall, with the result being that the coffee is weak. The slope of the coffee bean reservoir is just not steep enough for the coffee beans to feed consistently into the grinder. This brings me to my final annoyance. While the coffeemaker includes a timer feature that allows me to set the coffeemaker to brew at a particular time, such as before I get up each morning, the grinder issue requires me to use ground coffee when using this feature. Otherwise, the coffee is too weak to enjoy. I did not deduct any stars because of having to move the coffeemaker from under the cabinet each time I wish to make coffee because that’s not a fault of the coffeemaker. But I did remove two stars due to the grinder issues. If the grinder would feed adequately, this would be a five-star item. **UPDATE 3-24-24** After making numerous pots of coffee, the grinder function now works as it should. Coffee beans now feed correctly into the grinder. I can now use the timer function and have a pot of coffee ready to enjoy when I get up each morning. As a result I’ve changed my original rating from 3-stars to 5-stars. I ordered a replacement carafe to have available should the original be broken. The only source I’ve found for this carafe is wabilogic.com. Wabilogic is the official partner for Melitta and carries replacement items not found on the Melitta website. ***Update 07-17-24*** This machine failed after four-months of light use. I used this machine to make two pots of coffee daily. The grinder still works, but the machine will not pump water to the coffee basket. This is not a hard water situation, as I use a water softener. Prior to failure, the water was pumping through the machine at the same rate as it had with the first pot of coffee I made. This is very disappointing for a coffee maker that costs as much as this machine’s price point. **Updated 9-28-24** Customer Service replaced this unit under warranty. This merited a ratings adjustment from 1-star to 4-stars. This would be a 5-star product had it not failed so quickly. **Updated 10-06-24** The replacement coffeemaker failed two-weeks after receipt. It had the same problem as the first one – it quit pumping water. This is a great coffeemaker when it works. However, the consistent failures I have experienced makes it impossible to recommend this coffeemaker.

   If you LOVE coffee, this isn’t for you. If you’re an occasional coffee drinker, this also isn’t for you. It DOES make coffee, but it’s not really good at all regardless of the dozen or so kinds of coffee, ground and whole bean, that I’ve ran through this. The hopper on top is a great idea but it struggles to feed itself and rarely gets the correct amount in the filter without shaking or physically poking the beans under the shield thing that prevents them from going in. If you put enough water in the carafe for ten cups and fill the reservoir with it and select ten cups on the machine, you’ll get a full pot of coffee. If you fill the reservoir and select two cups, you’ll get a full pot of coffee. It doesn’t matter what you select, only fill the reservoir for the amount of cups you want. It has a strength selector as well that makes absolutely zero difference in the strength, flavor, or brew time. Between grinding and brewing, you’re looking at over twenty plus minutes for a full pot. It also has a grind size selector on top that makes little visible difference in the grind size. If you love coffee, you will be disappointed in this and there are much better machines for the same money. If you just want a pot for the occasional cup or in case you’re entertaining you can get coffee this quality from a machine for one tenth the price of this one. Absolutely one of the worst and most inconsistent brewers I have ever used.

   UPDATE – It’s just too complicated. There are too many button presses required to get started with fresh grind brew. One glaringly missing button is a CANCEL button. If you make a mistake with the ON button, then there is no simple way to cancel the process. The only way I have found to quickly end a mistaken button press is to unplug it. I really want to like this machine, but I just can’t. I’m better off grinding my coffee in my other machine and using my other coffee maker to brew it. This machine is a great idea, but it is poorly executed. What a shame. This is a very nice coffee maker. The grinder is easy to access and fill. The programming is straight forward. The design will fit most coffee stations without taking up too much room. There is only one issue so far – the carafe. Let’s start with the upside. The grinder is very easy to access, fill, and set the grind size. It is rather noisy, but that just seems to go with the territory. The water fill is straight forward with a window to confirm how much is added to the tank. The settings are easy to master with the help of the well written instructions. Filter access is straight forward with a swing out door that makes it easy to add and remove the filters. The overall build quality is excellent. But… and there’s always a but, the carafe design is poorly thought out. The container is short and wide. It is easy to poor from when the pot is full. But trying to get the last cup of coffee leads to a spilling disaster. The lip of the carafe isn’t tapered towards the pour spout to direct the coffee that way. The result is that when you tilt the carafe to pour the last cup of coffee out it can overflow the rim and spill everywhere. You must lift it slowly and deliberately to direct the flow of the coffee to the cup. That is the reason for the three star rating. I’m of the opinion that had anyone even tried to use the carafe, then this design flaw would have been evident immediately. With a better carafe design this is easily a five-star product. As it is though, I do not think it is worth the price with such a poorly designed carafe. UPDATE – It’s just too complicated.     When it comes to coffee makers, I like trying out European brands. I have always owned Krups coffee makers, and my most recent one lasted me six years. I ordered this very nice Melitta coffee maker on coffeemakers.us.com, which arrived quickly. I have always used Melitta cone filters, so I was pleasantly surprised to see their coffee maker. It came packaged very well, double-boxed for protection. Out of the box, I received the stainless steel coffee maker with a built-in burr grinder, a glass carafe, a dosing spoon, some sample #4 Melitta brown, cone coffee filters, and a user manual. After running a blank water-only cycle, I washed the carafe and filter housing with dish soap. We always use fresh coffee beans, so I added 33 grams of coffee beans and set the grinder just below the medium setting. The grinder is slightly louder than our standalone grinder but it grinds very nicely with no uneven chunks. You have to press the side button to open the filter housing. I placed a #4 Melitta brown cone filter, and within a few minutes, we had 5 cups of coffee ready. The coffee tasted good and the machine did a great job. There was some steam that came out from the marked steam outlet, but it was not a big deal at all. The machine is not too tall and fits under our cabinets very well. The bean hopper has an airtight lid to keep the beans fresh. However, we don’t keep our beans in the grinder hopper; we always measure them with a scale and grind them based on the quantity we are brewing. All in all, I am very satisfied with this coffee maker. The price is on the higher side compared to others, but with its built-in quality grinder and overall performance, the price is easily justified. I recommend this coffee machine.

    The grinder works fabulously. It comes with a built in conical burr grinder. There is no option to grind it espresso fine for obvious reasons as it is a drip coffee machine, but there are three distinct thicknesses you can choose from with a knob and fine tune some. The coffee brews wonderfully and tastes good. The machine has a nice weight and has a premium look to it. It’s really easy to brew coffee directly from beans or from ground coffee. For beans, you can choose your strength level from level 1-3. One thing I did not like so much about the machine is how it cannot dispense water levels exactly to what you set to brew. For example, I enjoy brewing 4 cups at a time but if I put in 10 cups of water into the container and set it for 4 cups, the machine will try to use up all the water. The brewing cycle ends but the excess water would be retained in the coffee filter compartment. It would be great to have the machine retain excess water for next brew. The coffee bean capacity is limited to about 3 full brews and you do have to fill up again. Overall, I am happy with this machine as I like to brew about 4 cups each morning for myself and spouse. I just load up the water tank with 4 cups, pop in a new filter, and brew away. It’s as easy as that. I haven’t used other filters than Melitta as they supply a few with the package but I like the filter and will stick with #4 filters.
