   The four cup carafe makes just enough to fill my favorite mug. I have one at home and one at work. Unfortunately, over the years I have come to the conclusion that I have to be prepared to buy one about once a year. You have to be extra careful with the carafes when moving or washing. They crack easily, and if you break it, might as well buy a new coffee maker. They are as expensive. My last one just quit working from one day to the next (At around the one year mark). It would simply not brew and the warming plate was not heating up either. Well, at least I ended up with a cup-holder / clock. (Don’t try this at home – Fire / Electrocution Hazard). And yes, I am still going to buy an equal replacement, there are not many alternatives and I still have the carafe.

   This is a very small coffee pot so be aware, it might say 4 cups but I use a normal sized cup and I would get about one and a half cups out of it. I’m not sure why they think this is 4 cups.    I wanted a single serve coffee maker for I am the only one in my house that drinks coffee. I originally ordered the Hamilton beach one cup coffee maker ($42 ). I ended up returning that bc though it “looked nice” it retained water and only brewed 1/2 of the water I put in. I decided to order something less fancy and trusted(also half the price) so I ordered this. Though it may not be specifically a “one cup maker” I can add the amount of water I want to brew and make it that way. It heats up and brews just as fast as a one cup maker and I have no mechanical issues with it. It even has a timer so it will start brewing for me in the am all on its own,that’s pretty wonderful! Its small, simple and it works! I should have got this one in the first place! It didn’t come with a coffee scooper just the basket the filter goes in. (I’ve seen people ask about a scooper). I would highly recommend this little guy 🙂

   Side by side comparison of the old version (right) and the new one (left). Do they make the same coffee? Yes. Does it taste the same? Yes. But little changes make this version inferior to the old one, which my husband says I’ve had since at least we met (in 2006). First, you’ll note that the clock is no longer a bright red LED but a lesser digital version. I don’t need to see it in the middle of the night, but even up close to program for the next day, the red is much easier to read. Next, the water holder. The design of the version prior separated the water from the grounds and there was no way the water could drip into them before you started brewing. In this new version, the space to put the water is narrower, and you could accidently pour water over the grounds before you want to and drip into the carafe. Finally, the basket is not easy to line up. The last version had a little notch so you knew it was secure and could only be in one position. This basket has smaller handles on opposite sides, and as earlier reviews mentioned, it can be hard to seal the top. I haven’t tried the delay and brew feature beacause I drink all 20 oz. in one morning, and I don’t think the water window is any added value. So my coffee tastes the same but the experience is not as user-friendly. We had to replace it because the bottom of the unit was leaking after 15 years and it was not worth fixing. But the replacement is not as good a product.

   This is a really tiny coffee maker–like the kind you find in motels. It supposedly makes 4 cups, but frankly when you first open it, it appears that it would only make 1 and in fact in only really makes 1 very large mug of coffee. Coffee is good. Edit after about 2 mos–coffee is just okay–I’ve used premium and generic coffee and the coffee taste is just okay–not for a coffee officianado. Note the LED display is not lighted and is very hard to see/read and is at the bottom of the pot so you have to bend down or pick up the entire unit to read/set it so if you have vision problems, this might not be for you, especially if you use the programmable/delay feature that has to be reset every day . If you are on a budget, have limited counter space and don’t drink a lot of coffee, this is for you. It is so small, you could probably bring it with you when you travel or keep it on your desk. Takes small filters. Again, it is really tiny! In this picture, you can see the size of carafe next to a “normal” size Cuisinart carafe..

   Perfect one person coffee pot! Only my boyfriend drinks coffee so I didn’t want something large (see it compared to my average sized female hand) that would take up a lot of room but also wanted something that would make enough and not cost an arm and a leg! It makes a perfect amount for a large coffee cup (with a little left over). It’s been used daily for the past 3 months and still works like it’s new.    This is the cutest coffee maker I’ve ever seen. I bought it to replace my keurig mini which has been running awfully slow and I believe it’s on its last leg. Even though the box specified that there is a reusable filter included I went ahead and bought one anyways because others have said it’s not actually included. This coffee maker brews 20oz of coffee which is 4oz more than I need to make a copycat rendition of Starbucks style brews but it’s just perfect. It’s very light, the top is a little hard to open but it doesn’t need to be closed all the way. It’s programmable so definitely worth the money on that part, and I feel like this does the single life and my budget so much justice.

    I’ve owned this coffee maker for about 6 months now. It has brewed great-tasting coffee without hiccup… until today. I turned it on and… nothing. Nothing was heating up and there was no water flow. As an electronics technician by trade, I popped the bottom open and found this KSD301-G thermostat was not giving power to the heating element. The contacts were stuck open. Since this device uses mechanical as opposed to solid-state switching, I fixed it as you would fix anything mechanical: I hit it with a hammer. Problem solved. I bought a cheap coffee maker, I expected cheap components and was not disappointed. So… uh… buy with confidence?

    Although I was fully aware, when purchasing this small and relatively portable $20 coffee maker for travel purposes, that it was unlikely to be sturdy or elegant, it was literally the first time I tried to use it that it broke. The flimsy plastic containment “notch” which holds the cover on to the base (by snapping over a plastic post, see photo) had too tight of a fit. This rendered the unit useless without applying weight to the top of the unit, since otherwise the top of the carafe is rendered too loose to permit the unit to distribute brewed coffee into the carafe. An inexpensive lesson learned, I’ll purchase a better-made product next time.

    This is a great little coffee maker. I have a 10 year old son who, though never diagnosed, not only defines, but gives nuance and richness to, the letters ADHD. We are also that family that ALWAYS gets ALL the crazy side effects to medications. You know the ones that don’t even appear on the product insert because they are so rare? We are the .000001%. Accordingly we try every alternative before trying medication and I have heard coffee can be helpful for kids with ADHD. So I bought this 4 cup Mr. Coffee DRX5 coffee maker and a can of coffee for my 10 year old (because I wasn’t sharing my good stuff with him). This is truly only a 4 cup (not mug) coffee maker. You are going to get maybe 2 mugs of coffee from this if you add half and half. That seems like just the right amount for a single person. Maybe. I figure it is enough for a 10 year old. A plus for us is the pot isn’t heavy for a 10 year old and he has no problems making his own coffee. The Mr. Coffee DRX5 programmable coffee maker allows you to make coffee with a timer, but it makes coffee so fast we haven’t bothered using the program feature. I do like that it automatically shuts off after a half an hour so I don’t have to rely on my 10 year old to remember. A half hour is just right for the amount of coffee this machine brews. Another reviewer suggested the water receptical was small and difficult to fill. We have not not experienced any problems filling it however. I included a picture with the top open and you can see there is plenty of room to fill the machine. Someone else remarked the coffee pot itself had a tiny spout making it difficult to pour the coffee. My 10 year old tries to pour his coffee very fast and does often spill it. However, so long as you pour the coffee slowly, the spout works fine. The only issue I have with our Mr. Coffee brewing system is the lid that closes over the coffee and water is a little fiddlely and doesn’t really close completely. Fortunately our OCD is mostly manageable and we have survived the visual assault posed by that unseemly crack from the lid’s failure to close all the way. Most of the time. But obviously not completely because I didn’t give this product all 5 stars… I paid full price for the Mr. Coffee DRX5. I would definitely recommend it for anyone just looking for a couple of mugs of coffee at a time and who doesn’t need the top lid to close tight every time.

    This is a great little programmable coffee maker, perfect for singles or anyone else who just wants to brew one cup at a time. Be sure you understand when purchasing, this doesn’t brew 4 mugs of coffee. Coffeemakers use 5 ounces as the measure of “cups” so it doesn’t even brew 4 standard measuring cups of coffee. This is fine and exactly what I wanted, but I felt that some buyers online (It’s different in a store where you can easily see how tiny the item is) might be expecting a brewer that makes enough for several people at a time. This handy little brewer will make one BIG “venti” size mug of coffee, or two smaller cups. I’m attaching a picture next to a Keurig machine, for size comparison. Years ago I switched from a programmable coffeemaker to the Keurig because I like my coffee fresh and felt like it was such a waste to make a pot of coffee only to throw most of it out. But I always felt the coffee for Keurig was expensive and the pods wasteful, and I missed having my coffee fresh and ready when I got up in the morning. This inexpensive little device has solved all of those problems! You set it up the night before, set the brew time, and presto!, an excellent cup of hot, freshly brewed coffee is there when you get out of bed! I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn’t feel very sturdy, and I don’t know how long it will last, but it is so useful and inexpensive I plan to buy another to replace it when the time comes!

    I recently got rid of my Keurig coffee maker (because it was damn loud, and not for any other reasons!), and was tired of paying for the K-cups. I also wanted to be able to start using some of the more exotic coffee grounds that I have picked up over the course of my travels. I selected the Mr. Coffee 4-Cup because it’s small, looked well made, and isn’t weighed down with a bunch of frills and useless options. After using it for a month, I can safely say that it hasn’t disappointed. It’s quiet, easy to program, easy to clean, and makes enough for 2 mugs. It will also keep your coffee warm for an hour after making it. It was also much cheaper than some of the more advanced versions that I researched. Overall, I’m very happy with this machine. Be advised that it doesn’t come with any filters, but can accommodate either paper or a basket.     July 2023 still working great. Yes, it’s small, and that’s exactly what I wanted. See picture for relative size compared to my other standard appliances. My apartment kitchen is tiny, so tiny coffeemaker is fine. It doesn’t take long to brew, so if I have company over it’s no big deal to just make another small pot. Maybe it doesn’t fill two large cups like I saw on a different review – I don’t see how that’s a problem. Just add some more water to top off large cups?

    I thought this was the same as the one I had before (which I had for about 7 years) but some things are different now. The clock display is now black numbers on dark gray background – impossible to read! Used to have LED bright green numbers, like the “on” light. This one is much louder than my old one, especially when it’s trying to brew those last few drops. I can hear it upstairs. The plastic seems cheaper so the top lid doesn’t stay closed when I pull the carafe in and out. The carafe budges the basket above it just enough to pop the lid above that open. Not a huge deal, but it won’t stay closed when it’s hot or brewing because the heat warps the top lid. It still works but it’s annoying and could result in steam burns. Plus side: I love having tea in the morning waiting for me when I get up. I just put a tea bag in the carafe and brew a small pot of water.

    I didn’t realize that it is so compact until I received it, and I LOVE its compact size!! It saves my counter space, and it looks SOOO cute! I have attached two photos, so you see its size. It makes 1.5-2 mugs of coffee depending on how large your mug is if you fill it to “4 cups” , I would say 2 for a regular sized mug. My husband says that the coffee tastes really good! And it is programmable, which is important to me. I am using paper filters right now, so I have no problem fitting the filter in place since paper filters are flexible. But I am buying a permanent filter. The clock is hard to see because it’s not lighted, I wish this would be improved. Overall, I am very happy with this $20 coffee machine.

    I’ve used MR. COFFEE for years until about a year ago, when I bought a small Keurig. It was nice, made great coffee…and my daughter fell in love with it. So I gave her mine and purchased a new M. C. There are 2 things I don’t like about it; it sure doesn’t keep my coffee as hot as the Keurig, and the top lid that goes over the filter is very flimsy and the catch on it appears it can break off very easily if not snapped on just right.     So happy with this little coffee maker! I found myself being somewhat of a coffee snob and was really on the fense about getting and auto drip machine. I usually grind my own and use a press, so was originally considering pour over drip but as a mom of 2 compromises have to be made. It’s perfect for me and my husband as far as cup size. Makes 2 perfect 10oz cups for each of us. And when I just want to make one for me I just put the right amount of water to make a 10oz cup just for me. The coffee maker itself has worked beautifully since I recieved about 10days, been using everyday. Haven’t used the programmable brew setting since I don’t want my grounds exposed to too much air. But in the morning it’s quick and easy. Pour filtered water in the back, 4 tbs grounds in the filter, press on and come back to hot coffee in minutes. And if you’re not ready to drink right away, the plate stays on for 60mins without burning the coffee. Clean up is easy also. Pictures to show size on my tiny apartment counter top compared to my press. Also added bonus it matches my other appliances.

    I bought this coffee maker in 2013 and it is still going strong. When they say 4 cups, it’s more like you’ll get two nice-sized cups of coffee out of this thing. I first used this in my apartment on my small kitchen counter and now I keep it at work on my desk. If you are looking for a small coffee maker that will fit unobtrusively somewhere and only need it for one person, this is it. Now, it does brew a little slower than some other coffee makers I have had but it still gets the job done. I only wish that I could take the pot off halfway through it brewing and have it pause (my other maker does this) instead having to wait through the slow brew cycle. Love this little coffee maker overall!
