   So I have had my coffee maker for about a month and a half now & only used it about 3 times… because every single time I tried to use it, coffee ended up on the hot plate under the pot and was a mess to clean up. I did some research online but none it it seemed to add up about why this issue might be happening. I finally figured out today (after cleaning up yet another mess) that it was because there are multiple holes near the bottom of the stainless steel pot (see attached pictures). Very disappointed because I love the functionality of this machine & it would be a great value had the pot not come damaged!

   I’ve never been more disappointed. I bought this thinking it would be great to fit under my cabinets when not in use. I love the brand. Had one for 3 years. Used this everyday for about a week now and the metal rim IS LEAKING. I about burned myself pouring!!! Thankfully my two year old who is always by me, was a few feet away. It’s complete junk. Don’t even have the box anymore to return it since it seemed fine the first use. I took a video and screen shot it I’ll update a new one didn’t feel like making more of a mess this morning.

   This is a joke. This is clearly not a 5 cup stainless steel crafe. See my photo, I can palm the tiny crafe in my hand! I also measured exactly how many cups it holds and it’s barely 3 cups! It’s super cheap thin tin like material. I honestly believe this is actually a childs toy being mis labeled as a real coffee maker. The quality is soo poor, thin brittle pastic everywhere, scratches all over the place, the cord is only 15″ long. If you’re serving up coffee for Santa’s elves this unit would even be too small for that, I’m serious. This is something you might find in a “free bin” at a yard sale somewhere, even then no one would take it and it would end up in a landfill. Don’t waste your time here folks!

   Very disappointed! I got this 2 days ago, and the glass carafe already cracked by the handle. I bought it to replace an older model that we had for years. The glass seems to be lighter weight. It’s not like we were handling it roughly, it just broke while being washed.

    Coffee maker is two years old, and the black coating on the warming plate is already flaking off, exposing powdery white spots. I contacted Mr Coffee, and they will do nothing to fix the problem. Other problems with the pot are: 1. It is very difficult to pour water in the little fill holes. 2. The nice looking stainless carafe is designed so it dribbles when you pour. 3. If the pot is not centered exactly on the warming plate, a pot of water goes all over the counter. 4. The delay timer numbers are hard to read. 5. The coffee warmer keeps the coffee too hot to drink. 6. If you overfill the reservoir by a tiny bit, the water comes out of a hole in the back. 7. Your hand does not fit into the pot for cleaning. 8. The fill numbers on the pot cannot be seen when filling the pot, since the pot is stainless. 9. The fill markers on the water reservoir are difficult to read. I’ve put up with all of the problems EXCEPT the coating flaking off of the warming plate. This is a design defect that Mr. Coffee refuses to fix. I make one pot of coffee per day. The only positive feature of this pot is that it looks nice when it is just sitting on the counter.

    Used this coffee maker for two months and I was cleaning out the glass pot and the glass shattered in my hand…I was not squeezing the pot either! the glass is so thin and I never even realized it. Mechanical it worked fine.

    Cheap, fairly small and works like a charm. My coffee maker broke one morning and I had this one delivered to my front door the next day. Perfect. Happy with this purchase, especially since it was on sale for $16.99 when I bought it earlier this month. My last cheap, small Mr. Coffee maker lasted 5+ years with every day use. I wanted to downgrade my coffee maker size to a 4 cup. This little 5 cup guy brews great coffee. Simple and quick. I do not have problems with the caraffe spilling … but I pour slowly to avoid that.

    Mr. Coffee JWX9 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black with Stainless Steel Carafe What a piece of junk. I even upgraded to the Steel Carafe which is cheap as well. Most of the Black paint came off the pot warmer and is now mostly silver now. I have stayed away from Mr. Coffee for years and have been using a BUNN. Thank goodness I still have it. I hope the people that sell this item actually read the reviews because they should send me a new one! I doubt if this review will ever get posted anyway… Anyone thinking of purchasing this should thank me for saving them the time of going to their trash can to throw it out. Also if you overfill even little, the water goes all over your counter top and well get everything drenched. I can’t say enough bad things about this product.

    This coffee maker looks nice and matches my stainless kitchen quite well but it’s poorly designed and quite a pain to use. First off, the area where you have to pour the water in is so small it’s nearly impossible to do it without spilling it down the outside or it spills into the basket area which then leaks down onto the heating pad. The second problem I have is the heating pad has already started to rust after two weeks use. (It’s either rust or the coating they applied to it is wearing off, or both. It’s hard to tell.) You have to make sure you dry off any water that dripped down onto the pad and the bottom of the pot itself before you start brewing. Other than that it works fine, it makes a pot of coffee pretty quick but I’ll be looking for a better designed unit next time. I’ve added two photos, one shows how small the area you’re expected to pour the water into is, the second is the rust/stain on the heating pad.

    It arrived in an old box, badly taped up, no internal packaging as should be with a new piece. Scratched up coffee machine. Looks like it’s been repaired. And the plug is none I’ve ever seen before and will not fit in any of my multiplug international sockets.
    I’ve had this machine before, I know what it looks like new, and this ain’t it.

    I got this coffee maker for my desk at work. I’ve been using it ten months with no problems. I have brought it home once for a cleaning out with vinegar.
    I only have one coffee a day so a small machine was what I needed. I was using the refillable K-cups but that was making a weak coffee. This machine makes very rich tasting coffee with just slightly more coffee than I used in the K-cup machine. I grind my favourite coffee at home so I always get the brew I want. I grind my coffee for this machine at just below the medium setting on my grinder. Much bigger – less flavour, much smaller the basket fills and sometimes the side of the filter paper collapses and you get bypassing which results in grounds in your coffee cup. I have no problem getting the smaller filters.
    One minor irritation that other reviews mention is it dribbles when pouring. To overcome this just open the lid slightly and then there’s no issue.
    I can’t comment on the timer feature as I always unplug it after making my coffee as we have health and safety looking out for rogue machines that represent a fire hazard.
    Overall I’m really pleased with this machine and I actually look forwards to arriving at my desk! It’s certainly improved my work day.

    I purchased this product in 2014, use EVERY DAY, and this little guy is still going strong! It makes great coffee, it’s easy to clean and extremely durable. I went through 3 coffee makers in 5 years prior to this, and finally said, “I’m going back to what I know works, Mr. Coffee pots!” I am so glad I did. It has auto shut off, delay brew, and I use a reusable filter basket and put all pieces in the dishwasher with no issues. My only frustration is that I ALWAYS spill coffee when I pour it. Has to be something with the spout design, but even after every day use for almost 5 years I still can’t figure out how not to spill it. That aside, I highly recommend this coffee pot. Nobody asked me to do this review. I was curious as to when I purchased this, and was shocked to see it was in 2014! Bottom line, great purchase, durable and makes a great cup of coffee!

    would love to give this machine 5 stars because aside from the problem I am writing about this is an incredible machine. I’ve owned this since June and no matter how good I am about caring for it, the heating plate is already rusted. The machine never stays on longer than the length it takes me to make a full pot and I always clean it right after use. Anyone else having this problem? If so, any tricks?

    This thing is tiny! When I read description that is is 5 cups , i thought half of your normal 12 cup carafe. So I got it and cried when I opened the package. And this was 35$!!!! Their product description and pictures are total misrepresentation. There is no way this is 5 cups!!!! Maybe in a doll land! What cups are they going by?? These are not 8oz cups like your normal carafe. This carafe is not even 4 inches tall!!! Don’t know what to do.

    I really like the small size of this unit. I can get two good cups of coffee from this. But upon first use, after putting the water in and before it started brewing, the water started leaking out of the top. Almost 1 full cup seemed to pouring out the sides onto the counter. After it started brewing and the level went down, the leaking stopped. I did not overfill this though. I paid attention to the makers on the side so not sure if this is a design flaw or if there is a crack in the unit. This is disappointing.

    Everything is perfect except the coffee won’t drip completely into the karafe. I’ve tried different amounts of coffee grounds and even tried to hold the filter cup down with my fingers after the machine is finished but it still won’t drain properly… making my morning coffee a VERY light 🙁

    I bought the same coffee maker 2 years ago at Target and I’ve been very happy with it… until the carafe cracked a couple of days ago. I saw this same coffee maker on coffeemakers.us.com but with a stainless steel carafe, which I was excited about because I don’t want to break another one. I couldn’t find the carafe alone so I bought the whole darned coffee maker and figured I wouldn’t mind a new fresh machine anyway. Imagine my dismay when I unwrapped it this evening to find the metal finish on the front of the machine was dirty. Only it’s not dirty, it’s a badly tarnished wipe mark that will not come off. I set the brand new coffee maker (on the left in photos) next to my 2 year old one (right) and my old one is in much better condition. I’m just going to take the steel carafe from the new coffee maker and continue using my old one. But I have to use the lid from the old carafe because the new lid is lower and doesn’t engage the spring loaded button on the filter funnel. I basically just paid $38 for a small carafe, pretty disappointing. Another side note, the stainless steel carafe in the product photo has a black (maybe plastic or rubberized) trim around the top. In actuality, the steel runs all the way to the top and it’s very sharp. I just cut my hand twice washing it.] Update: I’ve used the carafe a couple of times. I don’t know if it sits hotter than the glass carafe but it sounds like my coffee is boiling. Also, I’m having a hard time scrubbing the inside of the carafe without cutting my hand. I’m just going to return the darned thing.

    I had this very same unit for several years until it finally gave up the ghost. I used it 4 times a day, every day at work and I was quite happy with it. However, it eventually died. My only complaint was that shared by others in that the carafe dripped badly; it was virtually impossible to pour into a cup without it dribbling. I bought a different product from a different manufacturer and it lasted me about a year. (I guess I’m a heavy user!) At any rate I returned to this model and . . . hallelujah! The carafe lip has been redesigned! It pours . . . without dribbling! I’ve been using it for two days now, and I haven’t spilled a drop! So you can safely ignore all those comment about the carafe as it appears to have been redesigned. I’ve attached a photo which shows the new carafe on the right facing the old carafe on the left. (Don’t ask why I kept the old one!) The difference is slight, but it’s enough. The only other difficulty is that it can be challenging to pour water into the reservoir without spillage. However, I have a small stainless water bottle with a relatively narrow neck that I use. I have no issues filling the reservoir. It’s all good!

    This was my ‘for me and only me’ size coffeepot. I bought it on sale and without trying it, but it has a fatal flaw in the construction of it that irritates the living hell out of me. IT LEAKS EVERYWHERE. There are several pros to this pot: -I like the size of this, it’s enough for about 3 regular mugs or my regular morning of a mug and a full travel mug. -The stainless steel carafe is a lot more sturdy than the glass ones, I’ve broken glass ones before. -Also the stainless steel doesn’t show coffee stains. -Regular size filters work in this. -Programmable. Cons: -LEAKS all over the place. I have to hold the top of the pot on while pouring water in, and it still leaks, and when pouring it leaks again. When the pot is brewing it leaks more. It makes my countertop wet and it’s so irritating. -The timer on this has a tendency to be fickle. I set mine for 6:45 every morning. It’s been about 50/50 lately and I bought the programmable one to have my coffee ready when I come downstairs, not to have to push the button myself. This is one of the earliest robots to service us, and it’s failing. I need a bigger one anyway because I need one for two people’s coffee addiction, not just my own. But I may buy another brand because this one is good for the money in general but it’s a mess to clean up after.

    I don’t understand brands that go backwards in quality – the handle came off as if held together by air – I am actually using the pot that I was planning to donate to goodwill – the old pot is probably 6 years old … this new one broke in a month – I am floored so disappointed by this brand – I mean who commits their brand to complete market suicide and loses their advantage to cut a few bucks? Wow I would have paid more instead bc I trusted the brand – I would so fire the NPD team who thought it prudent to cut corners – reminds me of the sad story of Samsung battery Never again – am done i hate market myopia
