   Lots of fuss for a little bit of espresso but maybe that is just what espresso IS. I can see where this would be nice out on a camping trip when you don’t have your machine with you, but if you are drinking a mocha or Americano, you will have to run it a couple of times per person. For me, a new coffee drinker (iced Americano, please), there was a bit of a learning curve in what went where. I used fresh-ground coffee and found I had to press the powder down with my finger as the coffee scoop was too big to fit where the carefree went (maybe I was loading it wrong, but I don’t think so). Don’t use the 8mL line as it will overflow. Now that I understand how it works, I can see using this occasionally at home if I want to make and not purchase my morning iced Americano.

   I like it but definitely has a hard time extracting at the 8gr max amount marked on the manual. Still fine-tuning but definitely gring a courser than you would if you’re using your breville barista burr grinder.

   It is really handy and great for road trips and that faithful day you can’t use your actual espresso machine.

   The greatest disappointment with this product is that it is such a wonderful idea! Here is my experience and opinions: Pros: Very compact, could easily fit in a suitcase or carry-on bag. And the internal battery means that you can charge it for a few uses when you’re away from outlets. Cons: It’s very messy and cumbersome to load coffee into the tiny basket and to clean up after use. The coffee itself was more like coffee-flavored tea, and nothing like espresso. (And for the record, I used to sell pro-level pump machines, and personally have a Breville espresso maker which I use every day, so I know how proper espresso should taste.) There’s also a safety issue: the machine is top-heavy when in use, and the top contains BOILING water capped with a PUSH-ON lid (that comes off easily). If it gets knocked over during use (which would be very easy to do), it will be a “hot mess” of scalding water. All-in-all, I really wanted to love this product, and I am very disappointed that I cannot.

   I was so excited to receive this portable espresso maker. It arrived with a sturdy travel case that is a little big for storing in a suitcase but would be perfect for road trips or camping. It arrived fully charged and we soon found that a full charge makes 5 cups of espresso. It isn’t the most intuitive to figure out but it comes with detailed instructions. The espresso is a little on the watered down side when using loose espresso but that could be user error. We bought espresso pods to try with it and it really makes the whole process smoother and cleaner vs using loose espresso so we will use pods when traveling. Overall it is a great concept and the travel case is very well made so we are hoping it is durable.

   So, a friend inspired me to order this. I have to wake up super early, sometimes, and really don’t have time to make a good cup of coffee before a meeting. This helps so much because I can literally make a cup of espresso right at my desk. It’s so easy and simple to use. It came charged enough that I could heat and make two cups of espresso. I didn’t realize it ran out of battery (hadn’t read the instructions yet) and thought it had just stoped working. Nope, after a recharge it was back to chugging along. It doesn’t work when charging, so it’s good to keep it charged when you know you’ll want to use it. I tested and got 3 cups with room temperature/cold water and got 5 cups from already hot water. The battery is decent. Also comes with a nice travel case, which makes travel and storage easy.
