   I was making coffee yesterday morning, poured hot water over the coffee and filter, then turned around to let the coffee brew. I heard a “SNAP” sound and instantly knew what had happened: the heat caused the pourover to crack. Now I may not be a manufacturer of ceramic products, but it would seem to me that if you make something specifically for use with hot water, it should hold up to hot water without cracking from the heat. And I’m not an idiot: I have always warmed up the pourover with hot water from the sink so it’s not a sudden cold-to-hot transition — shoot, it’s not even a “room temperature-to-hot” transition! And still it broke on me five weeks after it was purchased. I’ve only been using it about three times a week, too. I guess I should have shelled out for the stoneware version made by the more expensive brand — I guess I learned my lesson!

   My husband has been using the Melitta plastic single use coffee filter drippers that are just like this one, but made out of plastic, for decades. We have 3 of those, and even though we put them in the dishwasher in an effort to get them really clean and get rid of the bitter coffee smell so that we can get a cleaner cup of coffee taste, it never seems to work. Then, I just recently discovered this ceramic version of the coffee filter dripper and OMG!!! What a difference ceramic makes! I take the used coffee filter out and throw it away, give this ceramic dripper a quick rinse – and no coffee residue smell like the plastic drippers have. This thing is a game changer! The coffee honestly tastes cleaner and better. My only regret is that I wish I had discovered this years ago (or whenever the first version of the ceramic ones were made).

    So I have always heard about the benefits of pour over coffee, but I never wanted to invest in a big machine or however it was that you used it. When I saw this listing on coffeemakers.us.com I thought this is the perfect opportunity to actually try the pour over coffee method to see if I like it. My coffee maker actually broke about a month ago so I’ve been using instant coffee but I’m not happy with the results. This ceramic maker is perfect! Especially if you were just getting into this method of preparing coffee. I have seen a few plastic ones online but read some not so great reviews about it so I’m very happy that this is ceramic and is very sturdy. I also love the fact that the saucer part in the cup are attached so you don’t have to look for multiple pieces when preparing your morning cup. Cup features three small holes in the bottom where you place your filter and the coffee grounds in that. Wet your filter just a bit so it stays in place and pour your hot water in a clockwise or counter clockwise manner so all the grounds get wet. Seriously one of the best cups of coffee I have had lately! This is perfect for single people that don’t want to make a full pot, or even families were only one person drinks a cup of coffee. Definitely check this out and it’s extremely hard to beat this price!!

    This is a great product but it came with one issue. Photo shows product image with small red circle in area where there was extra ceramic material. I found a long thin metal tool in my toolbox (like a file or punch) and was able to knock it off. It was approximately the size of a grain of sand but potentially sharp and not rounded. I would not want a piece like that to come off accidentally and get swallowed by anyone.

    This was purchased to replace a plastic coffee dripper I’ve used for many years because, really, exposing plastic to hot water over & over & over cannot be good. This is a very solid ceramic dripper. It works just the way it should. However, the color (green) is considerably more muted than the photo displayed on coffeemakers.us.com when I ordered it. I was expecting a more vibrant pistachio color. This very pale whitish green is disappointing but ok. I won’t return it.

    I actually stopped drinking coffee for a few years, but a recent vacation reminded me of how much I love it. What I don’t love is dealing with coffee pots, their large filters and the temptation to make an entire pot and drink coffee throughout the day. So when I decided to go back to a morning cup, a pour-over setup like this was a no-brainer. I already had an electric kettle that makes boiling water super easy, and that I’ve been using to make tea and cocoa, so it was a simple matter of getting a pour-over filter holder and some filters. Looking online, I saw the plastic versions that I was familiar with from my mom’s, but when I saw this one I thought how much nicer it looked! And it really does look beautiful in person, really adds even more “class” to your morning ritual, doing so with one less piece of junky plastic in your kitchen! The holder perfectly holds the individual (#2) coffee filters I have, and gives me a wonderful cup, without any coffee grounds to be found! I don’t bother with a dishwasher, since after plucking out the grounds, I can rinse this under hot water for 5 seconds and it looks brand new. I’m not concerned about it smelling like coffee as this is the only thing it will be used for. If it eventually builds up a stain, I assume this will come out easily with some light scrubbing with a soaped sponge, but I’ll update this if that doesn’t happen, and of course many people will opt to just take the extra effort and scrub it every time just in case. In any case, spend a few more dollars (or whatever currency) for this very classy version of a classic filter holder, if you can, the added quality and appearance is highly worth it!
