   This is a beautiful coffee pot. Like the other reviews, it’s difficult to get the water in. If you have the mint colored kitchen aid appliances, it matches pretty well. The ability to set your timer the night before is great. The pot itself has already broken at the handle within the first 6 months. This will not last forever and for the price point, its a little disappointing. My clock has already broken as well, see the picture. I spent $35 on the replacement pot which, you can already feel how cheap the plastic handle is when you fill it with water even to the 8 cup mark, I’m sure over the lifetime of this pot I’ll end up buying several replacement pots. If you don’t use it everyday or every other day, I’m sure it will last you longer but you will still definitely be replacing pieces.

   This is a fabulous coffee maker! I read a lot of reviews before purchasing and I want to address a few of the concerns. The coffee is appropriately hot when it comes out of the pot. The burner stays on for an hour and can be turned back on to keep it warm. We have no problem pouring water into the maker. This machine is solid construction and the look is wonderfully retro. We got the pink for our pastel decor lake cottage kitchen and it is perfect! It is a 10 cup maker so not as many as others but we plan on using a carafe and making several pots when multiple guests visit. The coffee tastes amazing too! I would highly recommend this maker.

   It gets 5 stars for design/looks. Fits my house perfectly and looks good next to my Smeg toaster. But, it isn’t the easiest to use (I’d have to explain to someone how to turn it on-not user friendly) and it’s true what some reviews say about not being able to pour all of the water out of the pot into the machine. Only giving it 3 stars For those reasons and because I’ve only had it a few months and barely touched the tip of the pot with another glass and it shattered!! Partially my fault, but it’s not like I dropped it! See photo. Super bummed. I was able to order another replacement on coffeemakers.us.com for $31, but it’s not prime so no coffee for a week or so while I wait for it to arrive 🙁

   I’ve read the reviews and after a year, I finally purchased it. Let me say. For all the reviews that mentioned that it’s hard filling the water reserve using the coffee pot and that it’s not hot enough to drink. This is what I have to say in the matter. YES, you will need to use another container to fill the water and it’s no BIG deal. I use a measuring cup and it works great, no spills and it pours right in. The temp of the coffee was perfect for me. But I do not like to drink scalding water. If you want your coffee hotter, you can use a microwave and PRESTO hotter coffee. The 60 mins time limit for the warmer tray is a bit of a bummer (I do like the two hours), but it’s not a deal breaker. Again microwave for a few seconds and we once again have hotter than hot coffee. The Smeg is easy to program and it looks great. Kinda reminds me of a Dalek. I got pink (and it was hard to choose a color because I liked them all), and it looks striking next to my turquoise Keurig.

   So I am replacing my Keurig because I don’t like how gross it must be deep inside that machine. This goes along with other SMEG items that I have …toaster, blender, & electric kettle. So far I absolutely love the way this coffee maker looks& it will be nice when I have a friend or two over to be able just to make one pot . I read all the instructions first and am brewing my 1st cup now! I will update if there are any negative issues, but so far I love it! Yes, it is a little difficult to use the carafe to fill the reservoir with water, but I’m just using a different container to fill the water reservoir. No problem at all. I don’t find it to be a negative.

    This gets one star because of its appearance. How in the world they made this coffee maker so that you cannot fill the reservoir with the carafe is one of life’s great mysteries. Besides that the anti leak system is horrible and I’ve made coffee with this 3x so far and ended up with coffee on the plate and and my counter each time.     UPDATE: This unit has completely failed after less than 2 years. It was miserable to use when it worked, now it doesn’t. I wrote SMEG customer service to express my frustration, and they replied with the following: Thank you for your email. Smeg USA small appliances carry a 12 month warranty so your unit is not eligible for replacement. “Thank you for your email. Smeg USA small appliances carry a 12 month warranty so your unit is not eligible for replacement.” At this price point, you’d expect a company would stand behind its products. SMEG clearly does not. ORIGINAL REVIEW: For a $230 coffee maker, this one has been a big disappointment. First off, it’s nice to look at. If you don’t plan to use it to make coffee, go for it. The design is poor. The lid doesn’t open enough to be able to empty all the water out of the carafe. If you want the coffee to stay warm for more than 20 minutes, you have to turn the machine back on again, over and over. Did anyone at SMEG actually use this thing before shipping it out? As for the carafe, the cheap plastic handle on mine began to crumble after TWO MONTHS of use. I replaced it under warranty. The second carafe held on a little longer, but it will ultimately break again, and now I’m out of warranty. For the price of a replacement carafe, I can just buy a Mr. Coffee that isn’t as pretty, but will brew a better pot of coffee. The build quality is flimsy, and overall it’s a very unremarkable coffee maker. The Cuisinart coffee maker I replaced with this was still going strong after about 15 years. This thing started falling apart 2 months in.

    I’m not going to lie. I 100% bought this coffee maker for athletics. I don’t regret it! Are there coffee machines out there with more bells and whistles for the price point? Yes. Am I personally going to wake up early enough to utilize a froth function? No. This is a coffee pot with basic functions. However, it is very nice quality and it looks amazing! Pros: -You can make a 1/2 pot. -It does not require coffee filters. -it will be a conversation point for anyone visiting your home. Cons: -While it serves its function, the plastic lid on the coffee pot was surprisingly generic. However, it is not visible when the glass pot is inside the machine. After purchasing this, I bought the toaster. I love both machines and plan on getting the tea kettle on my next “treat yo’self” splurge.

    I sent an email to [email protected] asking for help or a replacement for my coffee maker I bought less than a year ago. Recently, Anytime I press the brew button it trips the electrical circuit in my kitchen. I tried the coffee machine on 3 different circuits in my house and every time, they tripped and I had to reset the breaker box/outlet. I emailed Smeg a second time with hopes to hear back from them. I hate not having a coffee maker. I brought this one specifically to match my pink Smeg toaster. It worked well for several months and I thoroughly loved it but after this happened with no changes to how I used my coffee maker or changes morning habits, this happened. I wouldn’t be unhappy if the company got back to me but this is very frustrating.

    Truly disappointed. I was very excited to set up and use my coffee pot. I have other 4 other Smeg kitchen appliances and have always been happy with them. That being said, I purchased them from Smeg retail stores and not coffeemakers.us.com. While setting up, I read the manual and followed all directions. However, on first use of the machine, it completely died and did not brew my coffee. Upon further investigation it keeps short circuiting and making my apartment lose power, no matter what outlet I plug it into. Really inconvenient I had to go into my breaker box 3 times to finish brewing a pot of coffee. I was sold a junk product. Upon reviewing the sellers return policy, I cannot return this product because he will not accept “used” returns. Nice way to get around selling junk, of course I tried to use it before I realized it was defective. So disappointed.

    You could buy a coffee pot for $25 that has all the same features, but you would look like a peasant. Metal housing is nice, coffee pot lid isn’t a normal hinged style it pops off entirely and sits snuggly thanks to silicone bumpers. Looks amazing next to a Kitchenaid mixer and other vintage styled appliances. It brews fairly fast. Cons: Only 10 cups (I just overfill it to make 12)

    I have a SMEG tea kettle which I like, so I decided to buy same brand coffeemaker. After my SMEG arrived, I was impressed how it looks. Really classy. It was received in mint condition, in pristine manufacturer’s packaging. I’m using my SMEG for about 1.5 months now. So far I’m satisfied with functionality, brew speed, with the easiness of use, handleability. After reading reviews I was worried about small opening of the water reservoir. I didn’t find it problematic. The opening is big enough to pour water without spilling. I like how stable SMEG coffeemaker stays on the counter, the base stays in place, it’s not moving if you pushed it accidentally. SMEG made of plastic indeed. Hopefully it’s made of better quality plastic compare to cheaper brands. I use paper filters for coffee, to avoid direct contact with plastic.

    I love this coffee machine, mostly for it’s beauty, but it really makes an excellent cup of coffee! I bought it in cream so it would look nice on my bakers rack turned coffee bar in our dining room. It looks perfect with my Gevi espresso maker, and coffee grinder. I gave it 4 stars because the keep warm feature only stays warm for an hour after the pot of coffee is finished brewing.     So we buy nice cars knowing that they are expensive…yet they still just take us from place to place, but in style. The SMEG is like a luxury car. It reminds me of when I had the 50th anniversary Camaro and then traded it in for an Equinox. Now I still don’t regret the decision because my insurance was going up and it was Covid times lol…but I am keeping the SMEG because it really is luxurious. I bought a cheaper coffee maker to compare, and SMEG really does make better coffee. It has its faults…it’s not searing hot like I prefer, but I did taste test comparisons and the brew really is richer. I love the design and the classiness of it, and setting the timer is really simple. It makes me happy just looking at it. Plus the color is cheerful and there are many color options. Overall I think it’s a lovely product.

    I am so disappointed with this coffee maker. When I first received it, I thought it would be perfect! Love the retro look & light green color, but I was mistaken. It is extremely hard to fill the reservoir due to the lid not opening completely. Plus the carafe handle was falling off. I called the SMEG store – only to wait over a week for someone to return my call. They did send me a new carafe & the customer service rep told me he bought one for his mother, & it did the same thing by not opening all the way to put the water in. So, since I really loved the retro look & pastel green color, (plus, the SMEG name was synonymous with quality; or so I thought), I figured it wasn’t too bad to deal with. I purchased the in May of 2021. It is now Aug. 2022 & it has completely stopped working. I even tried to descale it – although I had just done that 2 weeks prior. Well, it wouldn’t even descale. $225 down the drain. So upset.

    Manual could be more precise but no complaints on ease of use or taste once that was conquered. Have not tried delayed start. I’m cautious that the carafe handle is vulnerable. This coffee maker will get light use. Prefer single cup nespresso for daily morning coffee.

    Unless you truly like the look of this product, there is no reason to buy it. It’s not a great, or even a particularly good, coffee maker. Especially for the price. First, as others have noted, the coffee pot is liable to break. My coffee pot lasted less than 4 months (I bought the machine at the start of October 2020; the pot broke at the start of February, 2021). The pot handle broke simply lifting the pot out of the (top rack) of the dishwasher. There was no unusual force used or anything different about removing it from the dishwasher. The plastic handle broke in my hand (see pictures). Now, it is true that the instructions say to not put the coffee pot in the dishwasher (and this is the reason the company has given me for why the company will not be replacing my coffee pot), but for $200 you would think a dishwasher-safe coffee pot could be provided. I guess not. Buyer beware. (A new pot costs $85, including shipping and handling.) Second, the coffee pot spout does not allow coffee to be poured quickly. The coffee must be very carefully and slowly poured from the pot into your cup. If you try to pour the coffee at any speed faster than “very slow”, the coffee runs down the side of the pot and then onto the counter or floor. I’ve used this machine every other day for approximately 4 months. I’ve cleaned up coffee probably a dozen times. Surely there is a better way to design a pot. Third, there is nothing intuitive or straight-forward about operating the machine. The buttons don’t make good sense. To change the time, you need to use a combination of buttons on the front and lever on the side (the lever serves no other function than changing the time. In essence, it’s just for show.) For some features, you don’t just push a button, you push a combination of buttons simultaneously. Good luck remembering what does what exactly. Finally, as others have noted, there is a very small area in which to pour the water (since I poured my water from a pitcher (with a good spout!), this wasn’t a problem), and the coffee can be kept hot for only one hour before the machine automatically shuts off. It would nice to have the option to let the machine stay on indefinitely. In sum, the machine brews hot coffee. Just like any regular $20-$50 coffee maker does. I’ve detected no difference between this machine and my previous one, which cost a fraction of the price (and had a better coffee pot). One star for doing the bare minimum.

    ive had this for a month now and i absolutely love it. makes delicious coffee and is easy to use and clean. i dont know why people say the handle is fragile, that hasnt been the case for me. the whole thing fits nicely on top of a target cube storage unit. im obsessed with the color and get compliments all the time. one of my better purchases! 🙂

    🙂 PROS: Very attractive design and colors. -Easy to open and fill up water. (after a few months of debating, I read somewhere they fixed that kink, and that’s the reason we proceeded to buy it) -We haven’t used yet, but as a preventative measure, we plan to run it with water a few times just to eliminate any possible smell of plastic. 🙁 CONS: Out of the five stars, we took out two for the following reasons: one star for being extremely overpriced. Folks, face it, we are paying for the looks, because as far as value, most any $35 countertop coffee maker will do. We also took out one additional star for the very gaudy, conspicuous label. When we put all our kitchen appliances side by side the SMEG do look pretty but the letters of the label are so blatantly displayed, it’s…. GAUDY. Let’s hope they reduce the size of the brand and place it somewhere where the actual product shows better than the name. I’d like to buy more of these appliances, but simply don’t want to see my kitchen turned into a SMEG store with those labels soooo visible e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. 🙄 It goes to show, bigger letters is not always better.

    I bought this coffee maker for the design. It was a bit awkward to fill the water as the other reviews noted but I dealt with it because I loved the design so much.11 months after I purchased it the heating plate stopped shutting off after the brewing cycle and if the unit was not unplugged it would continue to heat. While I contacted Smeg ( to no response), we unplugged the unit after each use. This morning there was an electrical fire smell in the coffee maker and it stopped working entirely. It is worth the price even for the design and now I’m out a coffee maker with no response from the manufacturer within the warranty period.

    This coffee pot was a splurge for me and something I debated about. I’m glad I bought it! It’s beautiful and it sits out in full view. It also makes great coffee! It was well packaged and protected in transit. The only slight negative I could say, is that the lid doesn’t open far enough to fully pour water in from the carafe.     We love the color and retro look of this machine but the insides (where the hot liquid passes) is all plastic (ew) AND the plastic handle cracked and broke within 6 months. The matching grinder is great.
