   When I first opened the package and opened the plastic bag, it was a bit dirty around the top where you screw it on. I made sure to wash every piece. Added filtered water and then separately I added the ground coffee (it says measure 2 cups- approx 170 grams) but I added the last of my ground coffee from the bag which was about half of the bottom part where the black horizontal line goes around the filter. Then I screw the extender on then added it inside the pitcher and screwed it on again. Nothing was broken or missing. It did come with a user guide with three recipes. The lid does seal the coffee from leaking and it works for both hot and cold temperatures. Do not add instant coffee bc it dissolves and it beats the purpose of the filter. Do not freeze or microwave the pitcher. Other than that, I am satisfied with my pitcher. It was the 2Q 1.8L. Also, make sure you have a fridge with the hight of the pitcher bc it is long. The 2 arrows on the lid handle is where the coffee is supposed to pour. So you have to unscrew the lid as if you were taking it off but not completely land on an arrow. Make sure the lid is still on. Then pour and close the lid again.

   I used to make cold brew with a French press, which was fairly easy, but it was inevitable to end up with grounds in the final product. Using this pitcher made making it much much easier. I have only used it once and did end up with a bit of coffee grounds after shaking it, but it was user error. Make sure the filter is in a correct position before putting the lid. I didn’t have enough room in my fridge to leave the pitcher upright, so I left it on its side and there was zero leakage! Enjoyed a nice cold brew in the morning.

   I genuinely can’t recommend the Takeya Cold Brew Coffee Maker to anyone, it just doesn’t work well at all. This product had one simple job to do, to make cold brewing coffee easier by removing the need to pour the brewed coffee through a filter, and it failed royally at this job. I followed the instructions provided with this brewer to the letter. I used my fancy Burr Grinder on the coarsest setting to achieve an even, coarse grind, just as the instructions recommend, and even with the grinds at the coarsest possible setting, the filter in this brewer let out so much sediment immediately that I contemplated not even finishing the first brew, dumping all the water and grounds out, and packaging the brewer up for return right then and there. I decided to stick with it, and see how the cold brew turned out anyway, and let me tell you what a waste of time that was. My standard plan for cold brewing is about 8 hours of room temperature steeping time, followed by 16 hours in the fridge. Before purchasing this, I made cold brew by just combining grounds and water in a bowl and then filtering them out. That, particularly the filtering, is an incredibly messy and time consuming process. I purchased this brewer to hopefully eliminate the need for filtering. The listing for this product touts the filter as being superb, making extra filtering unnecessary, I beg to differ. Immediately after gently submerging the coffee in the pitcher and screwing it in, the water in the pitcher looked like dirty river water because of all the sediment floating around in it, See photos. After the 24 hour brew had passed, I poured all the coffee through a filter, which is what I’d purchased this product specifically to avoid doing. There was a ton of sediment, more than I even imagined. Far more than I would consider acceptable. (See Photos) Again, I was using a Burr grinder on it’s coarsest setting to get a very even grind. If you have a blade grinder or are using pre-ground coffee, this issue will be hundreds of times worse for you because the grind will either be uneven, or will be finer than you would like to use in this brewer. Even worse, the pitcher lid leaks all over the place when you pour the coffee. I was pouring it through a filter in to a large mixing bowl and got a good amount of coffee on the table, If you were trying to pour coffee in to a mug you would struggle to get 3/4ths of the coffee you poured out in to the mug. The pitcher was not over filled, both the lid and the cap were tightened fully, and the rubber seal that I guess is supposed to stop leaking (but doesn’t) appeared to be intact. This is just poor design showing through. I will be looking in to a different cold brew maker, and sending this one back because it just doesn’t work. ———————————————————————————— The Photos I’ve included. The first two photos show how much coffee grinds escape the filter and enter the water. The first is immediately after submerging the filter, the second is after about two minutes. The third photo shows how many grounds needed to be filtered out with filter paper.

   I prefer cold coffee most times, but brewing hot and then icing wasn’t giving me the right flavor profile. I am in love with this cold brew maker already! I used 28 tablespoons, filled with cold filtered water 3/4 full and let it go for 24 hours on its side. It does not leak at all. At around 12 hours, I picked it up to shake and swirl, and noticed the coffee grounds had absorbed a fair bit of water which I expected. I opened it up and topped it off with more fresh water. At 24 hours I was rewarded with a deep black pitcher full of cold brew. The flavor is fantastic, the coffee is smooth and strong (this will of course, depend on your coffee of choosing and grind size). A few notes: – It is easy to take apart and clean – It does indeed fit in the door of my fridge – The 2qt model suggests 28-32 tablespoons. At 28 tablespoons, the level of the grounds when dry is higher than the filter itself, nearly up into the extender which is why I stopped there. I do not know if I would ever use more than 28 for fear of wasting coffee. – Pour spout does not drip while in use. It opens about 1 full turn to pour coffee, you can continue to open it but past that point you are actually unscrewing the entire lid/filter. – You do need to remove the filter/grounds when the brewing process is done so it does not become bitter. Overall, very happy with it, will likely update after a while once I determine it’s longevity after repeated uses.

   I worked for starbucks for 7 years and the cold brew was one of my absolute favorite things to drink. I’m reviewing this brewer with a few different factors in mind. 1. DESIGN: I purchased the 2 liter brewer. The brewer itself is good quality. I like the rubberized handle and the filter is a very fine mesh that feels sturdy. I also appreciate that this fits perfectly in the fridge door. If I could choose, I’d prefer if the pitcher itself was made of glass but it doesn’t take away from the performance. This is also easy enough to clean. Save the grounds for your garden or throw away but don’t put them down the sink! 2. BREW: I followed the directions provided and used about 2 cups of coarsely ground coffee and 7 cups of cold, filtered water. The coffee:water ratio is similar to starbucks does. It says to steep for 12-24hrs in the fridge. I steeped for 20 hrs as was the standard at starbucks. **what I’d suggest is gradually wet the grounds as you’re filling the filter compartment. Otherwise they just get compacted and you’re not getting the full potential brew.** 3. FLAVOR: I tried the concentrate, the cut down version (black), and also with milk added. Takeya suggests cutting the brew with water 1:1. That was exactly how I liked it and it’s also what Starbucks does. Now for flavor/taste, this depends on a multitude of factors and will be different for everyone. It depends on what kind of coffee you choose, where it’s originated from, the grind, the water quality, etc. I thought this had great flavor and when cut with the water, it was perfect. I used filtered water from my fridge to brew this. Next time I’d use bottled water or maybe try from a Brita because it’s likely why it came out cloudy as shown in the pics. Starbucks always used reverse osmosis water. 4. TL;DR: Great brewer. I would recommend. Good design that fits in fridge door. Easy to wash. Comparable taste / quality to Starbucks cold brew that will save you money! Make sure to use good quality filtered water.

   This is the product I never knew I needed. Previously I was making cold brew in my fridge overnight by putting coffee grounds in a mason jar with water and shaking it up, then using paper filters in the morning to separate out the liquid. This was a cheap method but ultimately time consuming and sometimes paper filters would rip. Then I tried buying “bean bags” for different cold brew brands that are basically coffee based tea bags that you let steep overnight and fish out. These were effective and easy, but I couldn’t get my favorite coffee grounds I had to go with whatever cold brew was out there. With this handy jar I have the best of both methods! I love that the jar is PLASTIC because it is lighter than the glass mason jars and I worry less about it breaking. So far the built in filter mesh is holding up well to hand washing. I have not tried putting this setup through the dishwasher because it’s easier to rinse out with soapy water and then just make more cold brew for the next day. The container is 100% leak proof when twisted on correctly, and the handle is sturdy enough to hold up from even when the jug is full. My one critique is that I wish there was a “fill to” line because when you put the Lid on with the filter in the middle obviously the water level raises and I haven’t figured out the exact right level so that the jug is full but doesn’t spill over when I tighten the lid down.

    While it’s made with solid construction- first use and I’m already wishing I got the pitcher I had last time. The basket does not have a removable bottom, so this will be harder to clean residual grounds from. Also- this one the basket attaches to the lid, so when the grounds go into true water, they all float to the top and you have to vigorously shake just to start to get the grounds wet to fall down into the water. With my other pitchers (this is my 3rd), since the basket attached to a ring at the top that had a handle attached and the lid was put on separately, you pour the water over the grounds, they’re immediately soaking up the water and submerged, only a little shake needed. Attached photo is after a minute of vigorous shaking and 5 minutes later. My other pitchers would immediately be darker, grounds getting soaked.

    1st off, cold steeped coffee is wonderfully flavorful and velvety smooth!… and, despite what i will explain below, this item is responsible for re-introducing us to the luscious experience of cold-brewed coffee… and, we are thankful… …now, with less ado, the review; a great cold-brew can be achieved, without this system, by putting finely ground coffee with h2o in a large mason jar, place in fridge for 24-36 hrs (shaking several times, periodically, throughout), and then filtering over a pour-over filter/carafe system… …this is, effectively, what you must do with this maker, as it’s filter cage does not contain the grounds, even when ground very coarse… by comparison, this filter cage releases considerably more grounds than with an economy french press… …as such, if you purchase this, know that you will most likely need to filter the product after… again, even with a coarse ground. so why use your time & energy placing grounds in the product’s filter cage to begin with, when post-steep filtering will be necessary? … …well, as such, we felt that is is inefficient to even put the grounds in the ground’s cage… plus, you have to empty and clean the cage! … so, we discarded the filter cage and just use the carafe, with it’s handle, sealed top, and pour spout, as our cold-brew sealed container; we pour in our finely ground beans, top it off with h2o, seal the top, shake vigorously, place it in the frig for 24-36 hours (shaking periodically, as often as able), then pour it over our simple, standard pour-over filter & carafe system…and, viola!, you have a full carafe of filtered, wonderful, full-bodied, cold-steeped coffee… drink it cold or heat in your mug for a regular hot cup-o-joe, but a tasty, smooth, velvety one! here is a simple, lang-lasting pour over system, for filtering your cold-brew; Melitta Coffee Maker, 6 Cup Pour-Over Brewer with Glass Carafe, 1-Count and, these are get brown (unbleached) filters; Melitta Cone Coffee Filters, Natural Brown, No. 6, 40-Count Filters (Pack of 12) furthermore, we also use a tall glass mason jar, so we are cycling through a 2-jar system; one steeping for 24-36 hours, while the other has completed the cold steeping cycle time and is ready for filtering… basically, just putting a new one in each evening … it really works great! especially knowing every day is a cold-steeped day! 🙂 | note: tall glass mason jars are great; for the large volume, the sealed lid, and the small diameter mouth making pouring easier…and, likely better than plastic, as the glass and metal lid prevent any permeation of odors | | bottom line & summary | skip this product, due to the filter cage releasing such an excess of grounds into it’s finished product, even when ground coarse, and just use any large sealed container (like a tall glass mason jar, pic attached); place in grounds, top off with h2o, shake vigorously, place in frig, continue to shake periodically for 24-36 hours, and then pour over your filter system… it is just “that” easy and, again, negates the need for this coffee system with its filter cage… lastly and again, if you would like a full carafe of cold-brewed coffee every day, then do the 2-jar method, so you will always be cycling two(2) through your refrigerator; one always ready to filter and the other still in the steeping process to be ready for the next day! 🙂 it works! enjoy! ☕️ Thank you.

    You can see in the pic that an “extender” was supposed to be included to help with adding coffee. My pitcher came without it. I didn’t realize it until after I cleaned the pitcher and opened the instructions. Also, I added a pic of the instructions. It says to use two cups of grounds but the holder holds MAYBE 4-5oz of ground coffee. Gonna try a pitcher as is and will be reaching out to the company. Will update review after based on their response. (Ignore my nasally voice in the video lol, my allergies are crazy right now). Update: after using this, the coffee still came out delicious even tho the instructions were wrong and I didn’t get an extender. Maybe the packaging was just wrong? Idk, but bc it still works just fine I’m updating my review from 1 to 4 stars. Ignore the packaging labels and instructions. Just fill the holder with ground coffee to the top and add your water. Update 2: customer service was great! Submitted ticket on their website and the extender was shipped out within 48 hours! Updating to 5 stars as I’m super happy with this product and company corrected the issue immediately

    Coffee is a must as a mom to two girls and this coffee maker makes it so easy to always have coffee on hand. The instruction book says exactly how much coffee to use and I’m able to get about three 16 oz coffees out of it. The coffee maker fits in the door of my fridge really nicely. The compact design and material it’s made from are high quality. The glass is easy to wash whether by hand or with a bottle cleaner.

    They are so easy to use. They’re dishwasher safe (top rack, if you have the clearance). They makes VERY GOOD coffee. You can stop spending $5 per cup at SBux. I have the process down to a science, to get the best cup of coffee for ME….your experience may be different. I’ve added additional steps which include double filtering the brewed coffee to remove the fines. It can take a little time and effort but it is SO worth it. If you aren’t likely to want to consume every drop, you can skip that step and just be careful with your pour so that you leave the fines in the carafe. However, I have found that filtering the final product makes for a perfect cup of cold brew coffee, with no grit….every bit as good as what you can buy at a coffee shop. The filtering process IS a little cumbersome but for my money, it’s totally worthwhile. The brewer does exactly what it is intended to do and there’s really no way to make for fewer fines in the end product. Grinders are the problem when it comes to creating the fines and in the end, a tighter filter would just prevent the brewer from doing what it is supposed to do. After brewing, my filtering process goes like this: 1. Remove the filter with the brewed coffee and drain the coffee from the filter. I keep the coffee that drains out and add it to the rest of the coffee for filtering. 2. Pour coffee from the carafe, into another container. I use a funnel and a 1.5 liter plastic bottle. Pour carefully to leave as many fines behind as possible. 3. Rinse and drain the carafe. 4. Pour the coffee from the other container through a paper cone filter, back into the carafe. I use a reusable filter as support for the cone filter. The reusable filter rests nicely in the opening of the carafe top. 5. Pour the coffee through the filter, back into the carafe for your first filtering. This step may take a while. Every batch of coffee will be a little different in terms of sediment. It is possible to clog up your paper cone filter but a quick rinse will get you back in service. Some days you will not have to rinse it during the first filtering, other days, you’ll rinse it a few times. 6. Once the carafe is full, rinse the filter one more time. Put the paper filter back into the replaceable filter and pour the coffee through it again, into the other container, for storage in the fridge. 7. Add water as desired. 8. Drink and enjoy, without ANY grit.

    I can’t drink reg hot coffee without cream or sweetener. So I had heard Ice/Cold Brew is much smoother and less bitter . I bought this and absolutely love it. I bought the 2 quart and it works great . I wish it worked faster but that is the only trade off is having to prepare ahead . I may buy another one to make it easier to have on hand at all times.     Great cold brew system! We had been putting off getting one for so long. We have a keurig and simply put brewed coffee in the fridge overnight. But as our keurig seems to be dying, it was time to explore other options. I wish we had done it sooner! This system is so easy to use – add your coffee of choice and water, place it in the fridge and wait for the next day. That’s it!! So easy, great tasting coffee that goes far enough for both of us. It easily fits on a shelf or the door. We’re considering buying a second because of how much coffee my husband drinks or if we have company. UPDATE: After a couple weeks of use I’ve noticed 2 flaws to call out. When inserting the filter into the water the grounds sometimes pop up to the top of the filter. This causes the grounds to get stuck and not submerge fully into the water to brew properly. I’m not terribly picky and haven’t noticed a huge difference in taste or quality. The fix is easy – insert the filter into the water slowly and if needed tap the filter firmly on the side of the carafe. With a firm tap the grounds should fall to the bottom of the filter. Also, when you insert the grounds into the carafe and twist shut it will push water out if you’ve overfilled it which some reviewers have identified as “leaking”. Simple solution is to screw on the top and tip it over the sink to pour out any excess water. Once that’s done I haven’t had any problems with leaking. Given that these issues are easily fixed, have become 2-3 extra seconds of my routine, and there is no noticeable difference in taste/quality, I’m leaving my rating as 5 stars.

Makes the perfect cold brew for our iced coffees, lattes and machiattos! WE LOVE IT! A definite must-have for your own “Do-It-At-Home” coffee bar! With our daily “Starbucks habit”, this brewer easily paid for itself in just three days! If you wanna count all five of the flavoring syrups we invested in, the coffee grounds, milk and our fancy case of to-go cups with lids & straws… STILL paid for itself TOTALLY in just nine or 10 days. It’s a win-win! 🏆 And our “homemades” taste identical to the big chains; maybe even better! (and I’m not limited to only one a day) (which in itself could be a problem) 🐽 lol 😜 [okay, it’s DEFINITELY gonna be a problem] Hahaha… Oh! Also, one more thing! We posted a pic of some silicone-bottomed mini ice cube trays that we purchased here on coffeemakers.us.com… they yield about 36 mini cubes per tray I believe? We like to pour cold espresso or coffee into the ice molds instead of tap water… freezes up nicely! And our iced cold coffee drinks never get diluted and watered down with nasty, watery ice… just more coffee flavor! A true necessity here in the Arizona desert! I do believe we’re WELL on our way to becoming coffee snobs!! And I’m okay with that!! Haha… 🤣

    This Takeya cold brew coffee jug is wonderful! I know a lot of people use Mason jars, however, I wanted something easier to grab from the fridge and more lightweight (and cheaper!). I have used Takeya products before and have been impressed with their durability as well as the easiness of cleaning them. This cold brew jug has only 4 pieces; the jug, the handle, the lid, and the coffee filter. The coffee filter has an extremely fine mesh and it has not let through even the finest of coffee grounds. It is really easy to clean! The filter, after filling it with your favorite coffee (I find non-flavored coffee to taste best during the cold brew process) then screws into the lid. After you have filled up the jug about 85% of the way with filter water, you place the filter (already attached to the lid) into the water filled jug and screw it on! The coffee will have a great flavor within 8 hours, however, it is most potent by 24hrs and stays fresh up to 72hrs in my opinion. Remember, you are brewing a coffee concentrate as about 1 cup of grounds are used to brew. Mix with 2 parts water or you will… well, be like me that didn’t read the directions and was up until 3am with a caffeine high, lol. Overall, I am really pleased with this purchase!     Got the 2 QT, BPA free model. Prior to purchasing this O had been using a mason jar which was a messy pain in the butt. Love this thing. Sometimes I heat up a cup and sometimes make iced brew depends on my mood but either way this brewer system makes it so easy to make your own cold brew. I never purchased cold brew before and now never will! One tip I can add is, hold the filter in and run the water inside it to saturate the coffee before filling up and putting on the cover. It ensures all the grounds get soaked. Highly recommend this!

    Update: 4 months after purchase, I’ve used it probably average twice a month and I noticed last month I was starting to get coffee grounds in the beverage, I thought it might have been operator error and when I made it again last night once again I’m seeing grounds in it and I know I thoroughly cleaned the filter and that it should have been without any particles but alas there still was, which makes me expect that there’s some sort of defect with the filter itself that allows for periodic grounds in the drink. I’m now actively seeing if there’s a way to replace just the filter Old review: This iced coffee maker works amazingly, it’s super simple you unscrew it you fill it with coffee and then you screw it back on then just shake it two or three times over the next 6 hours or so. It doesn’t leak at all so don’t worry about that. I would have to say that I put less coffee in there than it actually wants for the recipe because it wants you to use a lot of coffee by default and honestly using less than recommended taste just fine as well. I highly recommend using frozen coffee as your ice cubes because it makes it not have a watered down Taste. Be prepared to have to put triple or quadruple the amount of sugar that you normally use in your coffee if you’re planning on using the recipe that comes with it. Also it’s fully optional removing the coffee filter after it’s done sitting, I generally don’t and I have not noticed any difference in taste whether that is because I generally drink the full thing over 2 days so it doesn’t sit or not I don’t know but it makes it a little easier. Cleaning is super easy as, it’s just about the same difficulty as cleaning the tamper on an espresso maker so it may take a few hits to get the coffee grounds to leave the reusable filter and you may need to use water to persuade it but once it’s coming out it’s real easy and basically a towel clean.
