   As other customers have written, we also experienced the overflow from the filter basket, which leads to an extremely messy counter and sometimes floor, as well as a horrible batch of coffee with coffee grounds in your brewed coffee. We were able to figure out a workaround, which had us turning off the pump twice during a full pot brew. Unfortunately, if you forget to turn it off, it will overflow, making a mess! Earlier this week the basket started overflowing and my husband tried to grab the handle to get the filter basket to the sink before we had another huge mess to clean. This resulted in him severely burning his hand. Needless to say, after spending a small fortune on this coffee maker, we are now searching for another coffee maker. I have submitted my experience to Moccamaster as well. I will update this review when I have heard back from them.

   This machine makes great coffee, and lots of it. But there is exposed lead on the bottom of the thermal carafe. This is a safety concern, especially with young children in the house. When I contacted Moccamaster customer service about my concern and sent them the attached photo of a positive lead swab, they stopped replying. We threw the Moccamaster carafe away and are using an alternative container. Considering they sell the carafe alone for over $100, it should be safe.

   Had it for about a month, and it leaks in at least 3 ways. First, and as many others have commented, the filter basket can clog (due to ground coffee being either too plentiful or ground too fine), so I’ve adjusted for that. (See photo showing how close the coffee in the filter rises toward the edge of the basket.) This remedy needs refining, more or less coffee to one’s taste, so a user should monitor the flow until they get consistent results.) Secondly, this particular machine left a puddle of clean water around the thermal carafe base (see photo), so I removed the 4 screws on the bottom of the machine’s base and could see remnants of dripping water inside the tower. Couldn’t detect the exact problem but I did notice that the metal cover over the float was dislodged a bit. Reconnected that, ran clean water through it and no longer got a puddle around the carafe, but did notice a trickle of clean water on the base around the tower. That, apparently, is the third type of leak. I suspect something inside might be loose. Ugh. It makes great coffee, quickly and quietly but all of the above suggests Moccamaster’s quality control might be lacking. None of this leakage occurred with my previous Moccamaster and when it worked it performed flawlessly. I would be interested in any comments the company can offer about my problems. I did call them, got no help and was told coffeemakers.us.com would only honor refunds for the first 30 days. (Today is Day 31 for me – meh.) Moccamaster’s warranty is 5 years if I cannot find a fix, but I’m sure I will. For what I paid, I am profoundly disappointed.

   I have been percolating my coffee for years as I found home drip coffee makers too weak. My wife talked me into a drip coffee maker so I researched and found that if I was willing to spend $500.00 the Technivorm Moccamaster Grand was one of the consistently top rated coffee makers on the planet. I will not repeat the Info the Manufacturer gives but will tell you my experience. First thing, order the large coffee filters as it comes with 3 only. The unit arrived and I ran water through a cycle as per instructions. I like strong coffee but the instructions call for 10 scoops for a full pot.(1 scoop 2 tablespoons) I found that too strong. I find 8.5 scoops perfect for a full pot. The coffee maker Is well made and the engineering is elegant with no bells and whistles just an on/off button. The unit brews coffee quite fast. The coffee is hot which I like and the flavour was amazing. There is absolutely no bitterness what so ever. I started buying different brands of beans as I can really taste the difference in all the brands now. The thing I like about this coffee maker is that if I make a small pot the coffee, it still comes out the same as a full pot. I thought it might be tricky to making pots of different sizes but It is simple and the proportions of coffee to water stay relatively the same. This is the best coffee I have tasted at anyones home ever! I highly recommend..

   Been using my Mochamaster for a couple months now, and decided I have to come back for a review. I thought I loved my Ninja. It was good and reliable. But this… The Mochamaster makes amazing coffee even out of mediocre beans. Very rich and nice and strong. And smooth! Very glad I bought it. Highly recommend.

    Overall I really like this coffee maker. I have been using it for nearly 5 years now. It is simple and makes great coffee. The significant problem is that the bottom fell off of the carafe. (Literally just fell off) I contacted Technivorm and was promptly sent a new one, no questions asked. However, this happened 3 times during the first 2 years of use! (see photo) Instead of the old saying, “The third time’s the charm” the fourth carafe has thus far kept it’s bottom on. With the fourth one I was also sent a filter holder seemingly as a “sorry for the trouble” gift, but it was for cone filters and the Grand uses basket filters so it was of no use to me. I like that there are no electronics to fail – no timers, beepers or clocks. I am very happy with this purchase.

    Incredibly hot brewed coffee. Love the larger size for entertaining or serving a group. Very good unit. To make the coffee last longer in the Thermal Carafe, make sure to preheat with hot water for a few minutes at least.

    This unit makes amazing coffee. The temperature of the water is high enough to properly extra the coffee. Most other coffee makers only warm the water to 125F-160F which is totally inadequate to make rich, bold coffee.

    What a drippy mess and big disappointment. The carafe leaks down the handle side, not sure why but what a mess. The bigger disappointment is no contact from Mochamaster. I received a confirmation of product registration and a congratulations on my purchase but, after three emails describing the carafes leaking with attached pictures nothing from Mochamaster, zip, zero, nadda. At this point all I can say is buyer beware. Like others have stated the customer service is severely lacking. Not sure what to do at this point but at this price point I expect at least a return email let alone a resolution to this problem. I guess their unspoken rule is return the product and try again or get something else. Our other Mochamaster worked perfectly for seven years and we passed that one on to our son after receiving this one. So, yeah, buyer beware! Update: Okay, Mochamaster did finally get back to me and did apologize for the delay. So that’s good. As for the leaking carafe they replaced it at no charge to me. So that’s good also. I changed my rating to five stars and am a happy customer once again. Yes, I would recommend Mochamaster.

    I bought this coffee maker last Christmas and really have enjoyed it the last year.
    It comes with a 5 year warranty, which no other coffee maker I looked at had this warrant.
    The large coffee pot can keep the coffee hot for hours. The coffee maker boils the water quickly and it’s ready while I’m waiting.
    The only thing I wish it did was turn itself off after the coffee was done brewing. So it took me a little while to train myself to turn off the coffee maker once it’s finished making the coffee.

    Brews 12-15 cups like a beast! The temperature of the brew is always perfect and tastier than other coffee makers (last one I owned was Keurig K-Duo). This coffee maker is manual so you CAN brew less than 12-15 cups but you have to turn off the brew yourself.

    So far the only real problem is the filters, most 8-12 cup filters fit but the walls are not tall enough and leads to the coffee basket clogging/flooding. To remedy this I ended up buying a re-useable coffee filter just make sure to get a basket that is both 12+ cups AND 3 inches tall (2.75-3+ inches tall).

    The design is beautiful. The coffee is delicious. Its easy to use. The reliability and repeatability is abysmal. Unfortunately about 20% of the time the coffee filter basket becomes clogged and cannot drain into the thermal carafe. The result is coffee and grounds all over the counter. Such a mess. We’re using delivered bottled water, Technivorm brand coffee filters, and follow the brewing instructions to the letter. If it weren’t for the huge messes I would love this machine. The images attached show a rather light mess because we have to have someone watch the machine brew now. In the future I will save the money and buy a Mr. Coffee or Bunn for the office. The coffee won’t be as good but at least the could be relied upon the make coffee and not make a mess. Extremely disappointed.

    What a great coffee maker! The design, although unconventional as compared to the typical “premium” department store coffee maker, is very well thought out, of high quality, and is solid as a rock. This is the best coffee maker I’ve ever owned. Pros: – Beautifully designed and executed metal housing with striking “industrial” look. – Copper heating coils instead of the typical cast aluminum is an outstanding feature! – Solid on/off switch. – Small countertop footprint (however, it is quite tall – see details below) – Modular design. If something does happen to break, new parts can easily be replaced. – Very solid construction, so I doubt anything will ever break or need replacement. – Brews coffee faster than any other I have ever seen or owned! – 15 cups from cold start to finish in less than 8 minutes. – Brew time averages just a few seconds over 7 minutes for me. Several caveats: – The appliance is quite tall. Certainly not a negative, but keep in mind the height. It barely fits underneath our cabinets, which are 45 cm (17.75″) with about 6 mm (0.25″) clearance. Pic #2. – You ALWAYS have to remember to move the water dispenser arm over the basket after readying the coffee maker. I haven’t missed this yet, but I can see how it would be easy to forget. – I bought several packs of the Technivorm 15 cup filters and found them to be marginally adequate. These are the flat bottom filters and the ones I received had the bottom formed slightly too large, which caused the filters to crease, then collapse during the brew cycle, causing grounds to spill into the carafe. – Some buyers have complained that the carafe leaks. Mine did, too, but I found that when I filled the water reservoir up to the line (and not a fraction over), the leakage problem was eliminated. – No automatic brew capabilities (not a dealbreaker for me; see more below). – The filter basket lid lower surface (inside the filter housing) retains A LOT of water after a brew cycle. Just keep this in mind when removing after a brew cycle as quite a bit of water will spill off the underside of the cover. Pic # 3. Hacks: – With the collapsing coffee filter problem noted above, I decided to find a way to use regular (and far less expensive) 8 – 12 cup flat bottom filters. I purchased a stainless-steel reusable coffee filter (YEOSEN B07SF4Y6D9) and drop that inside the brewer filter basket. This “adapter” will allow you to use the 8 – 12 cup flat bottom filters using the same amount of coffee grounds to brew a 15-cup carafe. Pic # 4. – Some have complained about the unit not having an auto-brew or auto-off feature. The instruction booklet actually does state that the unit will switch off after 90 minutes. Oooof…even still, that’s quite a long time to leave the unit on after a brew cycle. What I did was use a plug-in smart outlet or smart plug that is managed by an app and allows for wi-fi control of any device plugged into the outlet. The app allows me to set up on/off schedules, which I set to have my coffee maker to come on daily at 3:00 am for an 8-minute duration, then switch off automatically. I just plug the coffee maker into the smart outlet, then make sure I set it up each night and easy-peasey. Recommendations to Technivorm: – Please redesign the coffee filter housing lid. (See Pic # 3). A simple stippling pattern or chines arranged in a radial pattern and molded into the bottom surface of the lid will help control and drain water that otherwise collects on the underside of the lid during the brew cycle. – Please do some quality control to check your Technivorm brand 15 cup flat bottom filters to address the filter collapse issue I experienced above. It’s easy for me to diagnose when placing a filter in the basket and the filter bottom outer diameter is formed slightly larger than the basket inner diameter. This causes creasing in the filter bottom to side radius and subsequent collapsing of the filter wall once saturated in liquid during the brew cycle. – Please consider adding an optional drop-in filter basket adapter (like I mention above) to allow for use of smaller 8 -12 cup filters – and even an adapter to allow for use of cone shaped filters, too! – Considering the price point of this coffee maker, for it not to have any type of automatic or scheduled brewing capabilities seems lacking. This was certainly not a dealbreaker for me as I was able to engineer a solution, but you may want to consider this option for future models. Overall, and without hesitation, I HIGHLY recommend this coffee maker!!!
