$100 extra for a version with a thermal carafe (that it should have been all along)? Disappointing. I do not own one of these, but I have it saved to get one day. I always wished they made it with a thermal carafe, but now that they do, I feel lees intrigued. No way that carafe costs them anywhere near $100 more, plus there’s probably no warming element in the base any longer. What a shame.

The warming plates on my first two simply good coffee brewers failed. When I called customer service about the second failure in six months they offered to replace it with the thermal brewer and it arrived today. I failed to properly align the top lid on the carafe. The result was coffee all over the counter. Then I found the instructions and learned there are two positions for the lid, “fill” and “pour”. This to me is a design fault as it will be easy for me to forget this step at 6:00 am. It should be automatic. The coffee temperature in the carafe was 161 degrees according to my infrared thermometer. I will continue to check to see how long the thermal carafe holds temperature when I get time and post results.
