The on/off switch is a piece of junk. When it fails the unit will not turn on. There is a cheap fix for this – QTEATAK KCD1 3 pin 2 position 10A/125V switch. $6.99 for 5 on coffeemakers.us.com. Get about 10 years out of your old pot by replacing worn out switches every two years. Four Phillips head screws hold the base on the pot – two screws are below the removable rubber feet. There are two plastic clips at the front which also have to be depressed to remove the base. Before removing the clips holding the wires to the switch note position of the brass plated pin and which wires go to which pin. Photograph the arrangement with cell phone. Use needle nose pliers to remove the clips. Break off the plastic clips holding the switch in place and remove old switch. Insert new switch into hole in the same position. Connect wires and put base back on. To get screws down in the hole in the base a magnetic tipped screw driver would be helpful. If you don’t have one put a magnet on the screw driver shaft. Figure the switch lasts about 2 years – you get 10 years more use out of the pot for 7 bucks.

When our second Mr. Coffee died (w/in a year of purchase), I decided to try another brand. I picked one of these Toastmaster 12-cup (non-digital) up at a local location for under $20. Now, a month in, I’m really pleased with it for a couple of reasons. For one, while the capacity is the same as the Mr C it replaced, the profile is much more compact and fits on our counter much better. Also – and this is significant – while every Mr. C I’ve owned claims “drip-stop” technology, this is the first coffee maker I’ve used that actually does the job. Zero drips, during or after the brewing cycle.
Yeah, it’s still a cheapo drip coffee maker but it does the job.
EDIT: 5/29/2024. Unfortunately, this coffee maker didn’t last a year. Plugged it in yesterday, no heat, no gurgling, nada. Liked it while it lasted butvless than acyear us unacceptable.

I was replacing an older model that leaked. To my surprise the new one was just as bad. Had to return

I really liked the simplicity of this coffee maker. I used it as usual in the morning. In the evening it was dead. The light came on but that was it. Waste of money. Toastmaster used to be a good product back in the day. Those days are gone.

I hated everything about this product! The lid stuck all the time, the spout was small and allowed drips every time it was poured and the switch was in the back part of the side, very inconvenient. Was almost happy when it quit heating!
