The secret is to pour your boiling water slowly. I pour very slowly around from the edge of the filter and work my way to the center of the grounds.    The one issue I have with this mostly-silicone pour-over coffee maker is that the metal strainer piece is difficult to get back in if you try to expand the coffeemaker by pushing on it (as I did). I didn’t realize it’s only held in place by a groove inside the coffee maker. Honestly, though? Being able to remove it will likely make the whole thing easier to clean. The silicone material is thick and sturdy, and the actual strainer is fantastic. It’s the typical, thin sheet of metal with fine holes that you’d see in a tea infuser, except it also has a thin layer of mesh that should prevent finer grounds from slipping through. I will say, I’m not sure if that will make it more difficult to clean the strainer piece.

   On our last month long stay in an apartment in Paris we couldn’t get the pod-style coffee maker to work. We usually enjoy pour-over coffee anyway so we spent a day hiking all over Paris searching for a simple inexpensive pour over filter holder. Everything we found was $25-$75, no simple $5.99 plastic filter funnel type holder to be found. We made our own from a cheap plastic funnel. This handy VVGCS Collapsible Paperless Pour Over Coffee Maker will be easy to pack for our next stay, and may also be great for our next backpacking trip. The silicon funnel has a stainless steel wire mesh ring at the bottom which is your filter, no paper filter is required. Pull the sides of the funnel UP, I kept popping the mesh filter ring out by pushing it down. The funnel holds about 8 ounces. I placed 3 scoops of coffee in it and boiled 10 ounces of water. Poured over a couple of ounces of hot water, then followed with the rest, it handled the 10 ounces fine. The coffee tasted great, with no grounds found floating in the coffee. Clean-up at the kitchen sink required a bit of effort to clean out the stainless steel filter and get all the loose grounds off the silicon funnel. If you were at a campsite without a good water supply it may be a hassle. Tomorrow I’ll try the new filter with a #2 paper filter inserted which would enable easier clean-up. The silicon filter packs down to a 4″ diameter by .75″ high, weighs about 2.5 ounces. For comparison, our everyday home use plastic filter holder is about 5″ in diameter (including it’s handle) and is 3″ high, weighs 2 ounces.

   This thing is a little bigger than you may think just by looking at the pictures, so check the product description if you’re looking for something small. That said, this thing works really well. My espresso machine broke a few months ago and I didn’t feel like buying a costly replacement. I was surprised to find that this simple tool works nearly as well. You can easily pack it with espresso and use it as a poor-over. The filter is double-sided, and the silicon cup is sturdy enough that you can fill it to the top with water and it doesn’t so much as wobble, both on the sides and with the bottom. There’s a small hole in the base so that you can look through to see the drip if you’re not pouring it into something see-through, or so you can put a clip on it (it comes with a little ribbon already attached for hanging). It comes apart easily and the whole thing can go through the dishwasher without any problem, and it rinses off very easily. I was impressed in that no grains got through the filter; the espresso it made was clear of any debris. Since it collapses, it’s also much easier to empty of used grounds than a normal espresso wand. It’s almost completely flat when you collapse it, which makes it easy to store or use during travel. Highly recommend.

   I have used a large variety of immersion and percolation coffee brewers and feel that I have a decent amount of experience creating great coffee. I picked this brewer up to have an easy to use travel coffee brewer that was more compact than an Aeropress. In this regard, I think this dripper is an excellent option. To get straight to the point, it can brew excellent cups of coffee reliably. If you are truly traveling light, you may find it hard to get consistent cups with this dripper if you don’t have a gooseneck kettle. Perhaps a drip-assist type device would help, or you can use a spoon to disperse the water stream evenly. Though the metal filter in this dripper does work well for travel instances (and keeps things super simple/minimal) I find that at home I still prefer using paper filters with it (I use Kalita 185’s with great success.) Using only the metal filter I find this dripper quite slow compared to a v60. The paper filters speed it up a bit but it still isn’t a fast brewer. I’m using a 1Zpresso Zp6 and despite the lack of excess fines I still get slow brews with this dripper with or without papers. Regardless of brew time however, the cups this dripper produces taste great and at the end of the morning, that’s what matters most. I’ve found the cups I brew with this dripper full-bodied and sweet. Cleanup is super easy with filters and easy enough with just the metal filter. Mostly you’ll just need to give the dripper a quick rinse on top and bottom to keep the staining and bitter flavors away. Without a filter you’ll need to tap out the grounds into the compost or trash depending on what you have access to. Long story short, I can absolutely recommend this dripper for travel and light home use. Would I used it every day at home? I could work with it yeah, though it wouldn’t be my first choice. But as an easy to use, travel focused pour over device it really excels.

    This pour over coffee maker is really handy to have for a quick cup of coffee. I really like that it has fine mesh in it, it’s actually good enough to use without a paper filter. In these pictures I tried to show how it fits on different sizes of mugs. The blue flower mug is a standard 12 oz coffee mug, the “M” mug is about 16 oz, and the pink and black floral mug is somewhere between 18 and 20 oz. It fits nicely on top of all of them. The silicone rinses out really easily and it pops down to be super flat so it’s easy to store. I think this is my new favorite coffee accessory.

    This convenient pour-over coffee brewer is a great deal at $12, although it’s not perfect of course. It has a removable metal filter (which I accidentally removed while popping the filter funnel up for brewing). You can use it as-is or use a paper filter in addition. I prefer the paper filter based on my experiment. I took about 15 grams of espresso roast coffee (ground in my Kitchenaid half pound burr grinder at setting 6, as I use with my Hario V60 pourover). Went with a 16:1 ratio with 240 grams of water. Brewing with just the metal filter was slow. I was able to do an initial ~50g bloom and let it pretty much sit for a minute. I poured additional water in and stirred it until I’d given it 240g of water. After a total of about 7-8 minutes I gave up and took the funnel off. I used a standard 8-12 cup paper filter in my second round, with the same coffee and water measures. The bloom was faster to drain, and the entire draw-down took about 2 minutes and 10 seconds. The paper filter brew was slightly lighter in color, and I felt I could taste a tiny difference between them. I might not have noticed if I didn’t know one was paper and one was not, and my partner couldn’t tell the difference except that one was hotter than the other. For future use, I’m likely to use a 1-2 cup paper filter and a slightly coarser ground coffee. But I have to say the 2 minute draw-down brew was quite acceptable, so if I decide to use it at home I won’t bother re-grinding to a different coarseness. And another experiment I’ll try soon is to brew some cacao in the filter. I think I will do better without the filter for this, as I’d want a bit of steeping but also want the simplicity. In general it’s a good deal and a convenient device for travel, whether you bring your own coffee or not.

    I love this thing! The coffee turns out amazing every time. It seems to be made out of some sort of silicone material. I love that it’s collapsible, compact and very easy to use. I like to use a filter in mine but it’s not necessary. I just do that for ease of cleanup. I bought my friend one as well, and she has loved how compact it is while she is traveling internationally and she doesn’t have to wait to go out of her hotel to get coffee.     Like that they fold down, fit extra wide rimmed cups, have an air escape hole and take just a little longer to filter through than my fine tea strainer that I was using for pour over coffee. They eliminate the plastic of KCups and allow for a stronger (and less bitter) brew. It’s easy to dump the grounds in the compost bin. The sink sprayer cleans out the filter well. It just takes a swipe of a cloth to eliminate the residue inside. I like that they collapse for storage.

    During warmer weather, I camp a lot. My original 1-cup plastic drip coffee maker is finally showing its age. I’ve used it for more than 20 years, so have been looking for a replacement. The VVGCS Travel Pour Over Coffee Dripper Kit is the perfect solution. It’s silicone, takes up minimal space, and is easy to use. With its removable strap, it is lightweight and collapsible. I couldn’t find a better replacement. This little drip coffee maker makes great coffee, and there is nothing like a good cup of coffee on a chilly morning in the woods. It works well and has a wide enough base that it should fit just about any size coffee cup or mug. This little drip pot has a removable mesh bottom that is easy to clean between cups. The stainless-steel mesh, however, slows down the process and does allow a bit of coffee slug to seep into the cup. The grounds got stuck in the mesh and I had to stir the water several times to get all of it to seep through. To avoid this issue, I used a # 2 cone coffee filter. The filter contains the coffee grounds, allowing the hot water to seep through without clogging the mesh. This adjustment produced a richer, full-flavored cup of hot coffee. I didn’t fill the litter maker to the top so added additional hot water as needed. Throwing away the disposable filter with the grounds was also much easier than cleaning the mesh. There is a little trial-and-error with producing the ideal cup of coffee, but this little pot works well, and makes a nice addition to my camping gear. I’d recommend it to others.

    The best feature of this product is it’s collapsible. That makes it great for camping or travel. The stainless steel wire mesh strainer is very fine and keeps the coffee grounds out of your cup. It’s somewhat slow draining, though, so be sure your water is really hot or else it will be cooled off by the time you drink it. Ask me how I know this. You might want to keep your cup on a cup heater or at least pre-heat it. It holds enough coffee for one or two cups. It’s not for making a full pot. I found it to be quickly and easily cleanable, so that’s a plus.The silicone rubber doesn’t seem to attract coffee oils, so they wash right off.

    VVGCS Collapsible Travel Pour Over Coffee Dripper Kit Single Cup, Paperless Camping Pour Over Coffee Maker with Metal Filter, Backpacking Manual Coffee Maker for Camping Coffee. This collapsible travel pour over coffee dripper is cute. It comes in tie-dye color combinations and collapses to a disc no more than 3/4 inch thick. And it has a handy quick-drying nylon wrist strap to hang it by. I love all of this. What I wasn’t terribly impressed with was the coffee it brewed. I was looking for an easy solution to a one-coffee-cup morning. For this to work well it needs the correct grind of coffee. I used regular drip coffee and the water rushed right through, leaving me with brown colored water. Hm. Then I tried the contents of a Keurig-style cup, which is an extremely fine grind. The powder-fine coffee settled in the bottom of the pour-over and delivered a reasonable cup of coffee. Reasonable enough that I would travel with this or use it on a morning that I don’t want to make an entire pot of coffee for myself. If I travel with this, though, a box of Keurig-style cups will go with me.

    As an avid cold brew drinker, sometimes I just want a hot cuppa. Enter the VVGCS Collapsible Travel Pour Over Coffee Dripper. Easy to use…just open and set it on top of your favorite mug or even a jar. The base covers from pretty small to over-sized. Put in your grounds and pour hot water over the grounds. Just like other pour over strainers. The ‘brew’ drain time will depend on your grounds. Naturally if your grounds are very fine, it may take a bit longer to drain. Mine drained in less than a minute. After pouring the water, I set the whole thing in the microwave…NOT TO HEAT… but to keep the water hot. That way, I went about my business and came back to a great cup of hot coffee in a few minutes. Less than 5 to settle. The coffee tasted like expected and there was very little residue at the bottom. A bit. But not much. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Compact and ready to store or carry with you. Another user suggested taking to hotel/motel. Excellent idea since you may not want to trust the coffee makers in the room! Ew. Just nuke the water, pour and enjoy! Be sure to measure the amount your cup holds before pouring, as you may not be able to see inside. A bit pricey, imo. But a useful purchase and great gift idea for travelers.
