   I love this pour-over! I have bought some for my family as well and they love them! Fits over most sizes of coffee cups and uses #2 coffee filters. My husband likes his coffee strong while I like mine mild – so we boil a kettle and are able to have our own perfect cup of coffee!    I did a taste test between pour-over and aeropress, and the pour-over won by a definite margin. It does take a little longer to get the coffee into the cup, though. Basket filters are less than a penny apiece at the grocery store, but are a little large for the Melitta cone. However, the excess can be gathered and clipped fairly easily, as shown in pic.

   This is the best bang-for-the-buck coffee device out there, and it’s been around so long that the design has been improved many times over. This is basically the grandmother of the $5 pour over cup being sold at your local third wave coffee shop. Because the hole is especially small and it drains slightly slower, the coffee brews a bit stronger. It takes readily available #2 Melitta filters (or any generic, flat-bottom type). The lip fits securely over any of my mugs, even my thermos. The cutout at the bottom allows me to see how full my cup is. The grooves on top help keep the water flowing, and the shape of the drain hole is extremely precise. In other words, this is a well engineered piece of equipment. SUPER easy to clean since it’s just one seamless piece of plastic. Perfect for a travel kit because it’s so lightweight, doesn’t take up too much space, and is not fragile. I own a ton of coffee devices including the Hario V60, Beehouse dripper, Aeropress, Bodum french press, Clever dripper and a Moka pot, in order of preference, and I’d place the humble Melitta third right behind the Beehouse and before the Aeropress (which is inexplicably trendy right now). The Hario V60 usually makes a sweeter, lighter cup while the Melitta tends towards a heavier, smokier cup. Sometimes the Melitta is better. It depends on the bean. The coffeemakers.us.com price of $5 is actually a little high to me. I’ve seen this for as cheap as $2.99 at my local supermarket, but it’s a steal either way. Made in USA.

   I had been using the standard design for a pour-over cone filter, with some issues. The ridge on the bottom, meant to center the filter on a mug, was so close in diameter to that of my bottle’s mouth that it was a risky,tippy affair to use. The four holes in the bottom of the old filter were spread wider than the diameter of my bottle’s mouth, so some always dripped down the side of the bottle. I had to make coffee into a separate container, and then pour it into the bottle. Problems solved! This one fits easily (my bottles have a 2-3/16″ OD mouth), and there’s only a single hole in the bottom of the filter so all the coffee ends up in the bottle. No tipping, no spills, no mess.

    5 stars if using with regular mugs, doesn’t cost much, can see the coffee level under the brewer. 1 star if using with travel mugs. The base is too nerrow. It has to balance on top of smaller opening mugs/cups and it’s easy to knock it off and ruin your morning routine.

    To prepare a pour-over with this brewer: 1) Wet a #2 cone filter. A dry one will not stay in the brewer. 2) Perform all preparation on the counter. The brewer is plastic and can easily tip over if placed on the mug prior to filling. 3) Support the brewer with one hand while pouring with the other.

    Payday wasn’t for another week and I had other priorities. Buying a fancy single cup coffee maker for my personal use at the office was not on the list. I cruised around the coffee makers on coffeemakers.us.com and happily stumbled across this. It’s the neatest thing. Just pour hot water over it and voila! you have a yummy cup of coffee. It even came with a couple #2 filters. It’s lightweight, cheap and works great. I recommend it for folks working in offices where you don’t want a clunky coffee machine at your desk.     I love coffee brewed with a coffee cone, and this one is very good. The brewing coffee doesn’t drip through too quickly or too slowly. I recommend a dash of cinnamon in the coffee grounds for a little extra flavour in your coffee, mmmm :).
