   I like coffee. I’m picky about coffee. This percolator is the newest addition to my coffee addiction. I have it plugged into a smart plug so when I got up this morning, it was sitting on the counter perking with the wonderful sound and aroma. It was great to see the water getting darker and darker until the light went off and it was time to try it. I like my coffee “kid temperature”, which means I put a good amount of milk in it to get it like that. That means that the coffee has to be hot enough and strong enough to make a proper cafe au lait, and this one does not disappoint. I had my first cup and when I went back for a second one, it was just as hot as the first and had no burning taste at all. This percolator has earned its place in my coffee arsenal. Highly recommended if you like a good cup of hot coffee.

   we are very satisfied with our new electric west bend percolator coffee maker. the only thing that i thought was kind of odd about it is that it is pretty noisy. But that is certainly something that is not going to take away from the good coffee that it makes. we use regular course ground coffee and it brews a richer flavored coffee that we didn’t even know we were missing until we started using this coffee pot. The drip coffee maker that we have used for many years just doesn’t
   stand up. the fact that it takes up less space is also a plus. over all it deserves the 5 stars that we gave it. I want to add another point…we have hard water and the drip coffee maker had to be replaced about every 3 months. so I always bought a cheaper model due to that problem. But with this coffee maker I can run a brush through the stem, clean the inside and clean it thoroughly and not have to replace it every months. that is going to save us about 130.00 a year in coffee pots. I know thats not a lot in the whole picture of everything but it certainly is going to be a lot more convenient.

   I grew up with percolators; in our kitchen there was always a pot of coffee on the stove for visitore and it got deliciously strong by late afternoon. This 12 cup WestBend percolator is perfect for me. I can clean it completely in 1 minute and brew 6 cups (3 mugs) in 6 minutes. Of course, it is best to use a good coarse grind coffee and to wet the coffee basket before adding the coffee to minimize the grinds going into the brew. I use a top quality coffee like Maxwell House French Roast (good to the last drop!). Thirty grams of coffee (3 coffee scoops (2 tablespoon measure)- each 30 ml ) for the 6 cup mark, makes a delicious, strong and HOT pot of coffee. (4 scoops for 8 cups etc.) I can leave the pot on all day and get a little fix of caffein whenever I want it, and there is always that aroma of hot coffee that permeates the house. Over the years, I have had espresso machines, drip makers, pour overs, French presses, Melittas, Areopresses… and they are all so time consuming to maintain. And the coffee they produce is only lukewarm. One useful tip I have is to invert my mug over the percolator spout when I start the brew in the morning. The steam that comes out of the spout as the coffee percolates heats up the mug (see picture) so that my first eye-opener will be piping hot. Put a little dish under the mug to catch the condensation. I cannot recommend this percolator too highly. Try it out and get back to good old American basics.

   I bought this because my Grandmother had one of these and its all she used. It made the best coffee EVER.. So I get this one in the mail. I will admit it makes GREAT coffee. But they are made cheap. The clear top is plastic after using the machine 4 times the seal on the plastic cracked making a mess. I do not understand why products from the 50’s and 60’s still work great but the so called great high tech crap breaks in 4 days. Grrrrr Please people if it worked great back in the day why change it? I posted a pic below to show where it was leaking. From what Ive read on all the other machines they are doing the same thing. ;(

   I consider myself knowledgeable about percolators because I have been using vintage models for the past six years. Percolators from the 1950s and 60s were a highly polished chrome and sleek in design. I’ve gone through three of them prior to finally buying a new one. I settled on this model and definitely made the right choice. Here is why I love percolators and how this model ranks: 1) Great-tasting coffee. I’ve always preferred the taste of percolated coffee. The model doesn’t have settings for brew strength like some of the vintage models but the manufacturer’s setting is perfect for my taste. 2) Good-looking compared to auto-drip. This model is OK but not as shiny and “mod” in design as the originals, but it’s attractive. 3) No need to spend money on filters. No worries about dioxin from paper filters or paper affecting taste. Less waste. Applies here! 4) Pleasant sounding WHOOSH!…WHOOSH! as the coffee heats up and can be seen in the clear bubble top. Applies here except that West Bend has a plastic bubble top instead of glass. That’s better in one way because you don’t have to worry about breaking it, but I prefer to not have my hot coffee come in contact with plastic. Not a big deal. 5) You can place the percolator filled with hot coffee on a table unlike a glass pot from a auto-drip maker so that if you are entertaining or want to bring the “pot” of coffee with you, simply unplug then remove the plug from the percolator. This model does just that! 6) No splashing or spilling when you pour coffee! The spout on this percolator is precision-perfect. Whenever I poured from an auto-drip carafe it almost always spilled a little no matter how carefully I poured. Keep in mind that you can’t submerge a percolator in water. I recommend using filtered water for better tasting coffee and to prolong the life of your percolator. I wash mine by rinsing it out with hot water and I Windex the outside as needed. I’ve not had a problem with build-up. The inside is stainless so it rinses very well. I’m very happy with my purchase.

   This West Bend percolator was purchased to replace a similar one I have used for almost a decade. It is an easy to assemble and a hardworking unit. My only complaint is that while the outer coffeemakers.us.com-branded box was intact, the original cardboard box inside holding the percolator was mangled to the point that it had holes in it. I am glad to say that the item appears to be intact and functional but has this been a gift item, I would’ve been embarrassed by the condition in which it has arrived and would have sent it back for a refund. No packaging material to protect the product was placed in the coffeemakers.us.com box. I am glad this item is not too fragile.

    This is a good percolator so far. West Bend has been around for a long time.

    No need for a filter although there are a few grounds on the bottom of the pot. Brews fast and delivers a great tasting, hot cup of coffee.

    I gave it four starts due to the length of time it took to get here. When I ordered it it stated five days. A few days later I was told it was delayed. Finally nine days later it arrived. Too long when you are without a coffee pot.

    Going old School, after Many Years of Keurig, AutoMatic Drip, Pour Overs, and Single Brew Mr Coffee (Mr C which I will still use, for my quickie cup) I bought Disc Filters, but forgot put it inside. Grounds will just fall out when emptied with a filter. Packaged well for shipping, Shiny New! First Brew, 5 mugs of water brought water ball up to the 12 cup mark, it Brew in 10 minutes. Started heating water immediately when plugged in. A little steam, but not overwhelming. Dark, Rich and Hot Coffee. (I realized, my coffee is going into a cold mug now as opposed to heating my glass mug as I Brew, but so far, it’s pretty darn Good!!! ☕ I’m rather picky, and I like back up and options.     Only two mornings with my new percolator, but so far so great. There really is something better or different about percolated coffee!! I liked my Hamilton Beach drip-style coffee maker. It lasted about 5 years and then suddenly died. Time to try something new. With the West Bend percolator, I lost programmable. I didn’t do my homework: Are there programmable percolators? The West Bend coffee tastes great. Made a proper cup off the bat. I happen to like store-ground Starbucks brand though I’m not as keen on the coffee they serve. WB recommends coarsely-ground coffee, and I noticed my Starbucks coffee had been ground on the fine side. (I’ll ask for coarse next time.) The percolator worked well nonetheless. The parts inside the percolator — stem, basket, screen — are tinny but OK. The stainless steel lid is substantial and snug — and needs to be. The AC cord is way too short. West Bend acknowledges this in the manual, saying a short cord helps prevent safety problem for kids. I’ll go along with that, but it made me appreciate my vacuum’s 20-foot cord all the more. Coffee takes about 10 minutes, and there’s lots of steam as the machine plugs away. As a railroad fan into steam locomotives, I like this feature. I had to point the spout away from my cabinets. The single light comes on when the coffee is ready and stays on while the coffee is being kept at a good hot temperature. Maybe some people will see this as a drawback: It has no timer or switch to turn off the appliance. You plug it in to start it and unplug to stop it. Yes, that’s strange. I chalk it up to keeping the cost down Cleans easily, but it requires more cleanup compared to my old Hamilton Beach (or any Mr. Coffee type drip machine), which leaves the cleaning schedule up to you. (Never) As I said, it’s only been two days, and so far I’m very pleased with the coffee from this West Bend percolator.

    Disappointed in this product. Coffee grounds seep out of basket when perking causing grounds all in pot and every cup of coffee. Of course, this affects taste. Will order another Bunn or stick with stovetop percolator which makes good coffee but makes only 8 cups (?) max. Returning.

    Love the design, love that it stays hot for hours without shutting off in an hour, makes hot hot coffee just like how I love it, however percolating depends on how much coffee you’re making. If it’s 4 cupa then it’ll perc for 3-4min, if it’s 12 cups which is the max, then it’ll perc for 8-9 min. Which makes coffee very weak IMO. Yes, I’ve timed it. Really wanted to love this product because of the good reviews. I’ve yet to find an electric percolator that continues to perc or at least percs until you turn it off or has a manual timer for you to set for stopping. It’s not how fast I get my coffee, it’s the quality of the coffee I’m willing to wait for. Back to my trustee stovetop percolator I guess. Will be returning the product.

    This worked for a few days; however, the top keeps getting stuck and you cannot open the coffee pot. Now, I’m stuck with a half filled coffee pot, a stuck lid that will NOT come off, the top glass piece broken off and no coffee for us.     This percolator works well and the coffee is hot. It doesn’t shut off automatically which is nice. I like the fatter bottom and narrower top. It took a couple pots for me to learn to pour slower or it’ll spill but now it’s fine. The only complaint is the basket stem is flat on the bottom and it makes finding the perfect spot for placement a little difficult. It’s a minor inconvenience but if I had been aware of it before purchasing it, I would have looked for a different percolator.

    Don’t waste your money. I bought this in May 2020. In Decrmber 2020 the two tabs which hold the plastic top to the cover broke off. Now the percolator is useless because the plastic top is no longer attachable to the cover. West Bend’s website says the replacement plastic top is out of stock, and has been for over 6 months. What a colossal waste of money buying this percolator was.

    The coffee pot has been doing a good job now for about a year. Stays hot enough (we’d like it hotter but it’s acceptable), doesn’t destroy the flavor unless you leave it plugged in all night, perks as it should. But beware! The inside opening of the spout is VERY sharp. Before using it I washed it. It sliced my little finger so quickly I didn’t even realize till my hand came out of the pot and was bleeding! (Photo attached). I contacted the company to tell them about this problem and got an email back saying they would call. They never did. Crickets since then. So I still use it. I just don’t put my hand in it without being very aware of that sharp spot. It makes decent coffee.

    I ordered this Nov. 2020 and last week the bubble knob on top started discoloring. Today it fell off as it is broken. Westbend does not have replacement parts for it. I now see it was made in China – shame on me for not reading more carefully. SHAME ON WESTBEND for not having replacement parts. My original Review titled: Percolator coffee tastes better, right? I wanted to see. I think it does. I tried grinding for coarseness as recommended but too much work. Hard to find course grind. So, I got filters and use regular grind. It’s a bit more trouble to clean than a Mr. Coffee or similar but the coffee is rich and hot. I got this one because it had the tube with a little red ball to show water level but it is slow to react and I jiggle it a little to get the red ball moving. I make the 6 cup amount and my guess is if you make more the red ball would work ok. The biggest surprise was that none of the reviews mentioned how loud it is when it perks. Some days louder than others. I wonder why The? The perking smells good and it is fast. I love the perked coffee. Using the filter means there are almost no grounds in the pot when emptied. A percolator is a bit of a throw-back but it, like many old things, is better. I should know, I too am old!

    I wanted an old fashioned percolator. I am happy with this one but it does not sound like the percolator I remember. It makes such a weird noise that my dogs bark at it as it brews my coffee! Nothing appears to be wrong with it. It has lots of nice features and quickly brews 12 cups. I only gave it 4 stars because of the weird noise. Otherwise it’s perfect.
