   I’ll start out by saying I’m comparing this unit to a Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista that we own that is a little more than half the price of this unit, has been in use for over two years, and has reliably produced two lattes almost every day, along with additional espressos. I know and love the Mr. Coffee machine despite its flaws, so this unit had a lot to live up to. I’ll first start with what I like: * The controls are pretty easy, and the colored lights help indicate what the machine is doing * I can easily produce an espresso drink of my choice with minimal input * The portafilter is 51mm and all my existing espresso tools work well with it * The unit is almost silent when heating the water – I didn’t even realize it was heating the water! * The machine has no problems with pushing out a double-shot of espresso through fine, tightly-packed grounds * The dosing of milk is consistent, regardless of the level of milk in the frothing unit, something that is a huge improvement over the Mr. Coffee machine I have * Cleaning the frothing unit is easy with the built-in cleaning operation, but I really need to make sure to hold down the buttons long enough * The machine gives the expert owner the ability to tweak water measurements, but I will likely not take advantage of this * The construction is sturdy with the outside being all stainless sheet metal – much more sturdy-feeling than the Mr. Coffee’s plastic body. * The area under the portafilter is actually wide enough for two shot glasses in case you want to brew two shots, one into each shot glass. My Mr. Coffee machine doesn’t have as much room for that. What I’m not as fond of: * The machine had a strong “plastic” smell when I initially used it. This was during the suggested process of pushing water through. I decided to use some vinegar to help deodorize the unit and the smell persisted somewhat even after that. This was after pushing through the equivalent of 4 or 5 full reservoirs of water of which one was a diluted vinegar solution. The smell has diminished somewhat now, but I wasn’t fond of this * I suspect the “198F” reading is just a “feel good” display. I hardly think that this unit gets the water to 198 degrees F and holds it there in a precise fashion. I would prefer to have not only an accurate temperature reading but also the ability to tweak the temperature * Drinks are measurably colder from this machine than my Cafe Barista. The Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista reliably pumps out very hot shots and frothed milk – arguably maybe a little too hot. The drinks from this unit, however, are almost lukewarm. The manual suggests pre-heating the mug with hot water, but I would rather be able to deliver a drink that is a bit hotter than what this delivers * I wish the brewing area under the portafilter was just a little taller. Yes, I can remove the drip tray for some room, but I’d rather keep that there for security. In summary, I feel like there are just a few things holding this unit back from a higher score. For now, I’ll primarily use my Mr. Coffee machine and this as a backup. I like how compact this unit is, how easy it is to use, and how sturdy it is. I wish it wasn’t so difficult to clean it of the plastic smell initially and I wish it brewed hotter, or at least let me tweak the temperature. With just those things fixed, I would easily give it that extra star.

   This espresso/cappuccino maker with milk steamer allows you to make espresso, latte, cappuccino and Americano coffee. The froth can be made with milk or cream and is like you would get from a barista. It heats up very quickly when you turn it on and it will self turn off after awhile if you forget. It comes with three different shot filters for single shot, double shot and an ESE pod filter. ESE pod filter is easier to use and clean. The milk frothing system detaches easily from the machine. I take if off and store it in the refrigerator until my next use. That way I have the milk all ready to go. It’s very easy to re-attach. I highly recommend this espresso, cappuccino machine. I love mine!

The milk can be stored in its container in the fridge, no need to wash a spout and a pitcher for using just 2 ounces milk. The machine works fast and the espresso drink selection is great. You also can double up. The grinds containers of my old machine were bigger and held more. The portions on this machine seem smaller and therefore the result tastes a bit weaker. One of my kids is visiting right now and loves a strong coffee drink in the morning and a nice hot tea at night. This machine had a separate water spout that is very handy for making tea. The price of $190 is a bit high for this no brand machine, the $30 coupon helps to bring it in the middle range of the competing unknown brand machines. This one will stay in my guest kitchen to be enjoyed by visitors.

    We’ve been using this occasionally, especially when we have guests. The coffee it makes is quite good; it comes out perfectly hot, and the milk also comes hot. I like that you can pick between 2 different coffee sizes for each of the 4 options. The crema it makes isn’t a lot like with a Vertuo machine I own, but it still produces crema. Our guests say they enjoyed the coffee a lot, and we also like it. It is a handy espresso machine. After using the milk I like to add water and use it again to clean the milk area perfectly. Really wanted to keep this machine but it’s made of all plastic and you taste it in the coffee. As soon as the plastic parts heat up… you can smell and taste the plastic in your cup.

    Except for one problem described below, this machine delivers truly amazing results. Its best feature is the ability to store eight different customized settings. My spouse and I differ in the amount of milk and coffee we want in our optimal cup, but it’s been no sweat to create a custom setting for each of us. It functions at optimal temperature and pressure. It’s easy to use and clean. With the right brew timing, it tastes awesome. When I say easy to use, bear in mind that expresso machines always require more labor than traditional coffee makers. That extra effort does pay off — in flavor. It’s important to tamp the shot, use the right brew time for the volume of coffee, clean the milk dispenser, and wipe down the brew head after each session. Also, I find the milk temperature too cool, especially when removing stored milk from the fridge, so I heat the milk for a minute in the microwave before starting my coffee run. Its one flaw is an overly small gap between the portafilter and the brew head. A single shot of espresso should be 7-9 grams and a double shot 13-15 grams. You will even find this stated in the included product manual. However, when I use the single-shot filter, I can only fit 5 grams of coffee, and with the double-shot filter a maximum of 10.5 grams. Add more coffee and the portafilter flatly refuses to twist into the machine. As a result, the single-shot filter is effectively useless and I have to brew two cups to make my standard morning coffee loadout. I’ve uploaded pictures to illustrate. In one, you can see the single-shot container from this device (on the left) and my older single-shot filter from another machine on the right. Notice how far the MAX line differs between the two. The other shows the double-shot filter nearly full with 9.8 grams of coffee. For me, this is still a 5-star machine. It’s not burdensome to reuse the filter a few times in the morning. While I don’t like the machine’s preset brew and milk times, it just takes a few button presses to reset them with my preferences. I suspect the reviewers complaining about the flavor didn’t get past the presets to set appropriate custom brew timings. Nevertheless, I would expect a machine at this price point to be able to deliver a proper double shot.

    Besides being gorgeous, It makes really good expressos! A little loud (but expected. My Nespresso is a bit louder) instructions are simple enough, although, if I don’t use it regularly, I have to go back to check how to make just warm milk or hot water. My only issue (and I don’t know if anyone has had this problem) is that the milk tasted a bit funny after being heated in there. I usually froth my milk with another device and it tastes good, but it didn’t with this one. It was like it had a metallic flavor to it. I did wash it first and all, but I don’t know. Haven’t used the milk part since, but the expressos are really good.

    I purchased this thinking, I’m spending more than I did w my first one but will have an auto frother and it’ll be so easy. But the frother doesn’t froth the milk hardly at all. Also, the tube of the frother goes into your cup to dispense the milk. If I allowed it to submerge into the milk that was dispensed (I hoped it wld froth more) it just spit milk everywhere. A huge cleaning job. Even if I don’t allow it, the makers size doesn’t allow for a small cup to be removed once the process is done without spillage. I’ve removed the drain plate and still a tea cup that’s 2/3 filled spills everywhere when I try to take it out fr under the machine. (I used a tea cup for a dbl latte) Also, there is a part in the owners manual that tells you how to customize a drink. So I followed the instructions and it stopped at the same level as a double latte. I also cannot make a skinny latte because the machine will only take whole milk. Low fat people, this machine is not for you. It curdles low fat milk. Now for the work afterwards…because it heats up (and it does heat both milk and espresso up well) but the heat will cause the milk to stick to the inside of the frother unless you clean it IMMEDIATELY after making a cup. So much for getting a cup of coffee and relaxing with it while it’s hot! No, you have to clean the machine first. In other words, the auto frother isn’t worth the hassle. Which means I purchased something that’s should make things easier and it just complicated my morning more! This baby is going back!

I have probably had 6 or more espresso machines in the last 15 years. This one was heating faster than any other i ever had.
