   My wife and I love this cold brew coffee maker. It is very easy to use and clean. More Importantly, it makes very good coffee. I have a Nespresso with 300+ pods, but I use Hario Cold Brew Coffee Maker as my primary coffee maker. This coffee maker is also easy to coean. I can put my whole hand inside to wash from the bottom with sponge. The botoom of filter opens, so it is also easy to clean the filter. After 5-6 weeks of use, the filter is still very white without any visible coffee stain. It certainly comes with some limitations. Like any other cold brew coffee, it requires time for a good cup of coffee. The coffee taste best and become strong after about 24 hours (see photos after 0, 12, 24 hours after starting to brew). I sometimes miss my coffee if I forget to prepare it the day before. Also, it is glass, so quite fragile. I do not exactly know how and when I broke it, but I found that it was broken after one month. Pro: very easy to use/clean/store make very good coffee inexpensive make a large volume of coffee Cons: Requires time/patience fragile: broke after a month I would recommend this product to anyone who has patience for a good cup of coffee.

   t. This is really pretty spot on with my limited cold brew experience. Drinking it black and it’s got good flavor without being bitter or harsh. The filter was easy to remove and clean, there is little to no visible sediment. I’d say this pitcher is a win! Looks like I’ll get 2-3 cups from each brew, which is good since it takes almost a cup of grounds to make 1,000ml.

   THE BEST! I am ordering for cabin and office! So easy to clean out grounds, just unscrew bottom and they fall out and filter rinses easy and clean.     Beautiful glass, removed the plastic handle and made a leather sleeve that makes it look awesome. Great for decanting anything! There is a cap at the bottom of the filter to make it much easier to clean after brewing, a great feature but unfortanely there’s no washer and it doesn’t screw on tightly so some fines can escape into the brew. The cold brew I made was tasty but I still prefer japanese/flash brew iced coffee. For the price I don’t regret buying.

    We are a huge fan of cold brew in this house. I love this item! This is my third purchase. I’ve broken one so had to replace it and I’ve bought one for a friend. In the pictures you can see my favorite least expensive grounds to use that you can purchase at Sam’s Club. It takes a little trial and error to get all the grounds wet without making a mess but it’s easy enough. I gently use a butter knife and stir while gradually adding water. It’s a money saver from the daily coffee shop visit for sure!

    Don’t buy this product; it’s poorly designed, unfortunately. I have purchased this brewer twice. The first time I found it broken in my fridge, I thought maybe I had banged it on something or mishandled it and didn’t notice, so I blamed myself and bought a new one. This second time, I put it in an area where nothing would touch it, and I wouldn’t place something next to it, so I was extra careful about it. The following day, I opened my fridge to grab it and immediately noticed the crack on the brewer in the same area where my last one cracked. Looking further into the reviews, you will see that this is a common issue, unfortunately. I suggest anyone looking for a cold brewer look elsewhere.

    Update: Deleted a star as roughly 6 months after I started using the glass cracked at roughly the top of the red band (complete circle around the jar. The pot was not dropped or hit or banged. I went to remove the cap to remove the coffe grounds and it came up with roughly the first inch of glass attached to the lid. (See photos attached) Although I did get 6 months worth of use out of the pot, it should not break without being dropped or banged or doing something to cause damage to the glass. I would have given this 5 stars but having no directions in English subtracted a point. Granted I did go online to their website where they have multi-lingual directions but it was just an extra step. And although their Ikea style cartoon hieroglyphs did a decent job of explaining the basics, it was pretty awful when it came to explaining care of the rather fragile pot. This company has a UK and a JP site ..so I would assume everything has been translated to English at some point for the UK site and clearly.. it is available, just not included. Despite that, this makes a most wonderful cup of coffee. I tried the French press (hot water), but all the caffeine would give me jitters. This product also mentioned that it would create a higher caffeinated product. My solution has been to brew the coffee for 24 hours…and use it as a concentrate. I now heat hot water in the microwave for 2 minutes with my coffee cup 1/2 to 2/3 full of plain water. To this I add my refrigerated coffee concentrate and I am absolutely amazed at how wonderful this coffee tastes. (Same coffee I have been using with my drip coffee maker, ground a bit courser). I have to say this is Nirvana for coffee. Not bitter. Smooth. Almost creamy tasting (without any sugar or cream added). I am still working ratios and grinds, but it is already amazing. Granted adding the cold brew to hot water seems silly, but it is pretty chilly in December and cold or iced coffee doesn’t seem appealing. It definitely did not ruin the taste. I am assuming with cold coffee, I would add the concentrate to refrigerated water and for iced coffee, I’d pour it over a cup of ice. I am aware that if I don’t have enough water my half cup of coffee (I drink from a 16oz cup) does provide more caffeine than my former 16 oz of hot brew drip coffee. So if you aren’t a caffeine junky, be sure to dilute. Speaking of that I have done drip coffee and cold coffee from my local baristas and wasn’t overly impressed. It did taste different but some had too much caffeine or the taste just didn’t really jump out enough to make it worthwhile. Adding water and creating my own perfect cup makes a HUGE difference. The simplicity and casualness of the pot are adequate. I do have a few concerns about this pot, the glass seems rather fragile (and based on others reviews it does appear to break easily). However, the plastic handle and filter seem to have lasted through the first brew. Although the directions say dishwasher safe, it seems the plastic may not be as dishwasher safe as the product claims. If this pot breaks, I will probably try one of the mason jar cold coffee kits as the glass is thicker and sturdier. Clearly not as “attractive” or elegant but perhaps more functional for the long term, but the low price of this tiny coffee brewer made it worth the risk to try my hand at this brewing method.

    We’ve recently become addicted to cold brew. Tastes so good & doesn’t eat your belly with acidity. So had to find a way to make it at home. The 2 best options were soaking coffee in a milk bag in a mason jar & the Hario pitcher. As the milk bag option didn’t seem sanitary & love my Hario tea diffusers, it was an easy choice. The only thing I don’t like if how tall & thin the pitcher is. It’s taller than a wine bottle & is a bit of a juggling act putting it in the fridge. Maybe that’s the reason it gives you full flavor in 8 hours. What really makes this a better product is the filter. It’s a perma filter made of the same mico fine mesh you find in a coffee maker. This will make it take a little longer for the water to drip through. However, vs a metal filter cold brew system, this one filters out the smallest particle. A long teaspoon, or I use my French press spoon, helps stir the water through the filter. As far as grind, I thought I would have to grind beans myself for this to work. Where most cold brew systems recommend a coarse ground, Hario works with a Medium/Fine grind, so a store bought ground works. You may get a bit of sediment at the bottom but, it doesn’t float into the brew when pouring. Get about 4 10 oz servings, give or take. He adds milk to his, I do mine black. So good, quick & easy to clean. Pays for itself in just one use.

    I got one for Christmas because I’m hooked on cold brew coffee. I already used the ball jars with lids from coffeemakers.us.com. I did not think these could be an improvement, but the filter seems much finer. The coffee seems richer. I bought a red one too. I have to have it ready in the a.m. tastes like coffee ice cream with milk, sweetener, and crushed ice…even in the winter I love it.

    I really loved this item and wanted to give it five stars…I love cold brew…low acidity…smooth flavor and strength of the brew. This product was relatively easy to clean and the perfect shape for my fridge, so I used to count it as one of my most prized kitchen tools. However, after three months of use I see the glass begin to give way close to the rim. I always put it away after wiping dry so it was never on a dish rack, and I don’t have a dishwasher, but the lid is tight so it always felt like it was applying pressure to the rim when I attached the lid on. I was so upset the other day when I saw it but chalked up a little crack to wear and tear and made one last brew, but obviously adding the lid again put more pressure and it further cracked. I am afraid to use it further so no more cold brew. For 18-19 bucks I think 3 months of use is too little. I would hope I just got a defective one, but am a bit wary.

    I first ordered one of these in 2014, and have made a batch of cold brew every two or three days since then. I’m the only coffee drinker in my household, and this is an excellent solution for always having really good coffee on hand, and never wasting any. I typically drink it black and chilled, but will occasionally heat up a cup if it’s cold outside. Cold brewing is great, and I know I’ll never go back to a standard coffee pot or a single serve machine. But on to the real purpose of my review – I ordered another one to give to my mother for Christmas, and I am so impressed with the new packaging and the slight change in design! I vaguely remember receiving mine with no instructions or even a box for the product, it was just loose in the coffeemakers.us.com shipping box. I did a decent amount of googling, reading reviews and blog posts, and then just experimenting with grind volume and extraction time until I landed on what I like. This second one came in a Hario box, with specific instructions, and the base of the filter can twist off, so removing the used grinds is likely easier (I always struggle to shake the last bit out of the original, and resort to scraping it out with a spoon, getting another thing dirty that now needs to be cleaned). These might seem like tiny tiny details – but I am thrilled to give it to my mom in a proper box to wrap up for Christmas, and with clear, written instructions on how to use it.     Perfect! Exactly what I was hoping for. This is the only vessel I use for making cold brew every day now– I fill it at night, let it sit for about 10 hours, and in the morning I’ve got beautiful refreshing cold coffee!

    The glass body is of good quality, all parts are easy to clean, and the filter mesh is so fine, there aren’t any grits in the coffee even though I use a fine grind. It’s slim and stable and fits easily in the fridge door

    I bought this to save some money, as I have an incurable addiction to Dunkin’ Cold Brew. At $4 a day for a large cold brew, it starts to add up quickly. With this unit, I buy about $6 worth of coffee which can make about 25 cups of cold brew, which saves me about $94 per 25 cups. Pretty awesome. Set up is simple. Fill the liner to the top with coarsely ground coffee (I don’t weigh it in grams, just fill until you no longer see the white liner) and then slowly pour water over the grounds and lightly stir. Fill with water until water fills to about half way where the handle is. Some let it brew for 24 hours, but I find that 12 hours in the fridge is the sweet spot for smooth, delicious coffee. I don’t drink it with ice, so I add about 4 oz of water to the pitcher just to dilute the concentrate a little and add some more overall quantity. A bit of milk and this is a dream. Easy, inexpensive and the BEST way to drink coffee. Get it.

    I had the chance to use the product for a couple times and I love it! It takes the hassle away from draining all the grounds and disposing them. You take the filter out, unscrew the bottom and that is it! The glass seems fragile so you want to be careful while handling the bottle. Upon opening the box, I immediately noticed scratches on the lid, which seems to me that they didn’t care how it was shipped. Don’t know if they check for damage before shipping or not. And to make things even better, the manual came all in Japanese! I know how to make the cold brew coffee, but it would be nice to know how to properly take care of the coffee pot (cleaning, maintain, etc). I give 5 stars for the product; however, I give no stars for the damage to the product and the manual in Japanese! Arigato

    While I do enjoy the flavor and the much-reduced acidity of the cold brew I get with my Hario “Mizudashi” Cold Brew Coffee Maker, I have been really disappointed with the fragility of the glass carafe along the upper lip near the spout and the lack of spare parts for purchase. I’ve gotten THREE of these Mizudashi cold brew makers over the past 4-5 years (first was a gift and the other two were my own purchases). Two of them (including the one I most recently bought this year) have cracked and then broken in exactly the same place on the rim near the spout. Problems start with a tiny vertical crack when you accidentally put a bit too much pressure on the lid to pop it on to do the cold brew. Over ensuing days/weeks, the crack spreads and then a big chip of glass breaks off. (See the photo.) Before my newest one cracked exactly like my first one, I had misplaced the small plastic screw-on bottom to the coffee filter insert. With no spare parts of this piece for sale by Hario, I was forced to buy unit #3. Now that I have only 1 whole working set after having #3 for just a few months, I am done buying Harios. The flavor of the coffee is lovely, but with such fragile carafes and no way to buy spare parts instead of an entire new unit, I’m finding another option!
