   *****Update***** 5.11.15 Having received the new coffee pot lid I realized my original one was fine. This is irritating because I’d even emailed a picture of what I thought was a broken lid to Hamiltons customer service dept. We bought this brewer because we thought it was a thermal unit, it is not! The lid has an opening in it that lets all the heat just escape. The warming plate is all that keeps the coffee hot and only for a period. My previous thermal coffee pot actually maintained temp for hours. Within hours, this coffee pot is cold. Don’t market a thermal coffee pot that isn’t! ***Update*** Ordered this Nov. 29th 2013. About 3 months ago (Decemberish 2014) the coffee was cold by the time I got up. It had stayed nice and hot prior. I chalked this up to every other coffee pot and just nuked it. Then, just the other day (April 9th 2015) I looked at the lid while hand washing it and could see the sink. The little do-hicky past the finger trigger for pouring was missing. Between the coffee bump for dripping and the trigger for pouring there is a hole and a piece was missing from it. I have no clue how or where or when it disappeared. New lid is only $4.99 but freight is $13.50. Not happy about buying a new lid. Overall, I’ve liked the coffee pot. I’ve downgraded it to three stars as the lid shouldn’t have broke. I’d also say get the 12 cup version. 10 cups sometimes doesn’t cut it where an extra cup would have. I like the design and the stainless steel carafe. The warmer actually warms on this model which is nice. Coffee stays hot all day. Ordered brass filter separately. Brews in a timely fashion and coffee tastes fine.

   My mother wanted a new coffee maker, so after looking at reviews, designs, and different capabilities of dozens of machines on the marker, I determined that this device would be in her best interest and taste. It does everything listed above, plus it makes Iced Coffee*** which she thoroughly enjoys. The blue LED is very bright, I do not mind, neither does she, it is fine. Other Cons, The reservoir does not contain a water filter like her previous coffee maker, but that does not really matter. The “chord storage” in the back does not seem to work and the chord is only about 24” inches long. Other than that, it works more than fine. I will post pictures , perhaps they may be helpful to other perspective buyers of this device.

   Our quest for a good quality thermal coffee maker led us through several price ranges and brands, Unfortunately we had problems with all of them leaking coffee everywhere during the brew process from the lid assembly. This coffee maker worked great for the first 30 days, Coffee tasted great on regular mode (bold was way too strong), and the list assembly is top notch. Comes out piping hot. However, the carafe has recently sprung a leak. There’s a seam that runs around the base where it’s put together. During the brew process, small amounts of coffee bubbles out, but it seems to stop when the brew process is done. We have sent out for a replacement from coffeemakers.us.com. If it stays leak free, I’ll bump this back to 5 stars because it’s an otherwise great coffee maker.

   I would have returned this coffee maker, but I was 1 day too late… I write this review on May 2 and I was considering returning it over the past 2 weeks, but then went on vacation.

   Cons: coffee gets cold faster than expected. I would consider exchanging for a glass model as the ‘thermal carafe’ won’t really keep the heat in after 15-20 min, and annoyingly the hot plate underneath turns off 2 min after the coffee done brewing.
   Annoying blue light at night that won’t dim or turn off.
   Filter holder needs to be inserted in a specific way that if the little handle breaks then you won’t be able to keep it in and won’t be able to brew.

   Pro: great brew! especially with the bamboo melitta filters.
   Sleek look
   compact relatively for a 10 cup.
   price was okay.

   Love it so much I bought a backup for its eventual failure, hopefully many years down the road. This thermal pot does a good job of keeping coffee hot if that’s a plus for you. For me, the selling point is that it won’t break when I eventually drop it as glass pots have done. It brews a full 10-cup pot (which by some strange coffee-logic isn’t really 10 cups) in 8-9 minutes. I like the speed, but more, I like that it is easy to set up to brew automatically in the morning (or whenever!) Another plus: I live in Florida where we frequently have second-long blips in power, and I’ve only had to reset the time on this once when the power was off for a couple hours.My microwave is more sensitive to these fluctuations! I’m no expert on coffee, but I imagine the 3 brew choices are a good option. I set it for the strongest, and think I use less coffee that way. There are 2 negatives. One the blue light is always on and always very bright–but I don’t much care since it’s in the kitchen, not my bedroom. The second is more of a challenge: This pot is tall, especially with the reservoir door open — and I think it needs to be open after brewing to dry so as not to get mold or other nastiness. At 19″ fully open, it will not slide back under my cupboard (18″) where it belongs. I’ve solved this by propping it partially open after a couple hours with 2 black plastic knives placed perpendicular to each other and sliding it back. They won’t show in a photo, so I took a picture with white straws to show the placement.

   I rarely take time to review purchases, but if I can spare someone else from buying one of these and having the same problems I’ve had it will be worth it! When we first got this machine we liked it, except for poor design of the pouring part of the carafe, which frequently leads to spills when filling narrow-necked thermoses. I could have lived with that. However after ~40 days I awoke to find this machine covered in water, which I believe was condensed steam. The electronic display was completely obscured, rendering it impossible to set the clock/brew timer. I bought the model with the thermal carafe, which I’ve read is identical to the model with the glass carafe but for the fact that the glass carafe model has a heated base to keep coffee warm. Well, they apparently use the same base for this model but must disable the heating element somehow. But whatever malfunction caused the excessive steam and the display problems evidently re-enabled the heating element, as the outside of the thermal carafe was super hot, as was the plate it rested on. I *specifically* selected a thermal carafe model because I don’t like having a heating element like that operating when I’m not there to keep an eye on it! Long story short, this thing is a piece of junk that lasted just past 30 days before becoming absolutely useless. I have attached a photo of the illegible display–keep in mind this happened after only ~40 days!

   I looked at many many options and review sites to make my decision. I never remember to leave reviews for products, but this time I’m making a point of it. After being a French press snob for many years, I finally bought my first machine, and I love this one. I’m so glad I got the thermal carafe…WAY better than a glass pot. I have two small children and rarely get around to drinking my coffee when I plan to…the thermal keeps it hot for hours without the burnt taste of a warming plate. Thrilled with this machine!

   I’ve gone through several coffee makers in the past 5 years. Ranging from the very inexpensive to the overly expensive. Even with proper maintenance they fell apart on a regular basis and the coffee was never hot enough and therefore didn’t taste all that great. Our most recent coffee maker fell apart after a year so I purchased the Melitta 46894C 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe on coffeemakers.us.com. Not only was it the best priced on coffeemakers.us.com, but delivery was very speedy. This has to be one of the most stylish coffee makers out there, my husband thinks it looks like a Ferrari, with the red stripe on the carafe. There are also 3 brewing options, from regular to strong coffee, the end results are always a great tasting cup of coffee. I would highly recommend this coffee maker if you’re in the market for a new one, its well priced, stylish and makes good coffee.

   I am not even sure how long we have had this coffee pot, but none-the-less it did not last very long before it started rusting. If I had to do it over again, I would look a little more closely at the reviews. Why is there even a heating base for a thermal carafe?

    UNFORTUNATELY after not even 18 months the digital controls refuse to respond and the filter overflows putting coffee grounds into the pot. That is after coffeemakers.us.com replaced the original ordered pot that had the same problems.

    My old Philips cone coffee maker, with thermal carafe gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service. It was difficult to find a replacement with cone filter and thermal carafe, until I went to coffeemakers.us.com. Melitta is a well known brand and in the past I used the original German Melitta ceramic coffee makers. The clock and auto start are extra features I don’t need, seems that most coffee makers now have that standard. After two months this unit works great with a great cup of coffee even four hours after brewing.
