   I seem to purchase a Mr Coffee Iced Tea Maker every year and a half because I use my twice a week (at least). My old one had exposed wires where the cord was crimped, so I decided it was time for a new one. This is just like my others EXCEPT it is missing the printing on the front that shows “Mild” and “Strong”. What happened to quality assurance?! I’ll just write it on with a Sharpie as it’s not worth sending back.

   I purchased this tea maker from another vendor to replace an identical one that served me well on a daily basis for the last 5 years. I have 3 suggestions for the use of this tea maker. 1. Use it with a baking/cookie sheet pan under it to control inevitable leakage. You will find that it WILL leak when you get in a hurry and do not properly follow instructions. My old one has leaked several times over the last several years – not because of a defect, but because of my inattention. This is no big deal if you use the baking/cookie sheet pan. 2. Use two 32oz plastic soda fountain cups to make your ice that you put in the brewing pitcher. Be sure to cover the top of the cups or the water will freeze from the top down and bulge out the sides of the cups and the frozen ice will be impossible to remove (I use a mailing envelope to cover the top of both cups). The ice from these cups fit nicely in the brewing pitcher. 3. Get 3 jars WITH lids that are 1 quart in size. Pour the brewed tea into the jars to overflowing so that when you put the lids on the jars there is no oxygen in the jars – your tea will last longer by doing this. Put the jars of tea in refrigerator and remove as you use them. I use discarded instant Lipton glass tea jars a friend gives me – they also serve as my serving cups. They are tall and will fit in my car’s cup holders. I do not add ice after the tea is brewed for the added ice dilutes the tea.

   We had a 2 Quart maker years ago. We had quit using it and got rid of it after awhile. Fast forward to this summer…..we have 4 kids now and a commercial sized ice machine. It’s summertime and everyone thought iced tea sounded refreshing and we have plenty of ice, so hubby gets the idea that we should buy another tea machine. I order one. The machine comes, we make a few batches of tea, and we quickly remember WHY we got rid of ours years ago. Here’s a little rundown of how it works……You fill your pitcher to a line near the bottom based on 1qt, 2qts or 3qts (however much you plan to make). If you’re making 3qts, this equates to maybe a few inches of water in the pitcher which is really very little water. You pour this into the machine, put the little basket in with your tea bag(s) and then fill the pitcher nearly full of ice. The 1/2/3 qt ice lines are near the top of the pitcher. You slide the pitcher up to the machine, and hit start. In theory, by the time the hot tea comes down and melts the ice, the end result is 3 qts of tea. This never works out. I always followed measurements for 3 qts and the finished pitcher was never even close. I tried going above the recommended ice line and it helped, but still no. The next issue is that these bad boys leak tea all over your countertop. When it first starts brewing, the flow is strong enough to go right in the pitcher, however, at the end there doesn’t seem to be enough force and it just trickles down the front of the machine all over everywhere. I put the whole setup on a towel but, I didn’t really need a bunch of tea stained towels. Moving on, the machine has a pretty short cord and puts off a lot of steam. I didn’t like steaming the underneath side of my upper cabinets, and the cord was too short to pull out away from the wall, so I had to move it to my island. On to the next issue!! After using it about a dozen times, it got to where it just kept shutting off before brewing was complete. I would have to hit the start button several times to even brew the whole pitcher. This machine is now retired, just as its ancestors before it. I’m kicking myself for being stupid because think about it, tea is seriously one of the easiest things on earth to make. Boil water…….pour over tea bag……..done. I am using a Pampered Chef pitcher I had in the cabinet and using an electric tea kettle to boil water. Let it sit a bit, squeeze and remove tea bags, Ta Da!! Tea!! Save yourself the money, the headache and the ice and just don’t buy this.

   Moxed feelings but LOVE the concept!! It came in a pretty somewhat timely manner, really no fuss there, my biggest issue is I feel like I am going to be making tea ALL DAY everyday!! My TWO men (hubs and son) drink probably 4 of these PER DAY! I truly wish other than the huge restaurant style tea makers, that they would make these just a few more quarts bigger!!! I cannot comment yet on the taste as I am literally making the FIRST pitcher as I wrote this! It came in today lol, so I took away one star just for the size issue, and haven’t added yet another bc I cannot speak on the taste yet!!

   This is pretty sweet. I needed a change from making tea on the range or woodstove and while adding another specialty appliance is mind numbing, the simplistic way to brew makes it worth it to me. I always want strength in the brew and steeping for long periods of time often busts tea bags. Setting this for strong with 12 tea bags makes for a perfect brew for my personal taste. It brews at around 200 degrees and helps make simple work steeping the tea for the short period of time it takes at about 12 minutes brew time. I like to use a blend of green tea and orange pekoe and add some turmeric, black pepper and local honey for a nice anti inflammatory blend and it tastes perfect. This machine makes it simple however storing it’s large footprint not so much but I feel it’s worth it. One flaw (that I can look beyond) is that it does not have a closure for the spout on the pitcher. It would have been nice to have a closure so it can be placed in the fridge without drawing in smells and flavors hurling around in there.

   This version of Mr. Coffee makes tea just fine. LOVE the size and design of the pitcher, yet the top blue lid of the brewing unit literally pours condensation onto your countertop after brewing. I was shocked, honestly. After you’re done brewing, the next step is to dispose of your tea bags. The only way to do this is to open the blue flap on the top to remove the tea bag container/filter. Rather than running into the reservoir, the condensation pours (no joke here) down the back side of the brewing unit and onto your countertop. Not to mention the water you now need to clean up, it’s also running all around the area where the power cord attaches to the unit and is plugged into the outlet. I seriously have to wonder if anyone actually tested this design? How could they have tested the designed and allow it to go into production? Boggles my Engineer-Want-To-Be mind. I had a much older version of the Mr. Coffee Tea Maker which had a problem with the pitcher leaking – I FINALLY decided to upgrade, only to have another water/mess problem. Honestly, I sometimes wonder why I don’t just brew my tea in a pot on the stove, just like mom taught me.

   I like everything about this Ice Tea maker except that it has a hole in the back and water comes out of when filling it. I think it might be there as a precaution not to overfill but water escapes from the hole when you’re just filling it. Makes a mess and drips down to the electrical cord, which is a concern.

    I ordered this tea maker, and it arrived in its own boxing. I open it and on top is a pink sticky note (pictured) saying the power button doesn’t work which was surprising immediately. I decided to try it just in case, and it doesn’t work. Then I open it and it’s all wet inside and clearly used. Just requested a replacement, let’s hope it’s new and not junk.

    I have a serious soda problem. In order to kick it I found myself getting iced green teas from Dunkin but of course they’re expensive and they always put way too much sweetener in, even when I asked them to only add a little. I began to make it at home but was boiling huge pots of tea on the stove then dumping it from the pot into a giant drink dispenser which took up a ton of fridge space. It was dangerous, time consuming, and messy. So I ordered this iced tea maker after reading all the good reviews. I couldn’t believe it was so cheap since it’s basically a Keurig but for tea. I used one of the reviewers advice and find its better than the instructions. I use five green tea bags, and brew three quarts of tea without adding ice or anything into the pitcher. When it’s done I add three more quarts of water into the reservoir and brew a second time with the same tea bags. You then have a full pitcher of strong tea. I have it on the strongest tea setting as well. I put the lid on and put it in the fridge overnight. The next day I take my tumbler cup, fill it halfway with ice, pour the tea over, then add one pump of Monin syrup (also purchased on coffeemakers.us.com) I have the plain and blackberry. It tastes just as good as Dunkin tea, it’s more versatile since I can buy whatever flavor tea and syrup I want, I can control the amount of sugar, and it’s way cheaper. Green tea has so many health benefits and I am not drinking soda! I’m in love with this product and would absolutely buy another one if anything ever happened to it.

    There is an obvious design flaw that can cause the drip from the basket to leak around the pitcher instead of going into the pitcher. See the two photos I posted above. The tea outlet nozzle is oval and off-center. For some reason, as the tea drips through this nozzle it tends to pull to one side. Under the best of conditions, this dripping tea just BARELY stays below the edge of the pitcher lip. If the pitcher is not fully inserted as far as it will go, the tea could drip around the lip, and onto the counter. This design flaw is two-fold: first, the oval nozzle is off center; second, the pitcher pouring lip is not quite tall enough, nor is it quite shaped the way it should be to minimize the chance of drip. Short of reshaping the lip of the pitcher to allow it to better conform to the outlet of the tea brewer, the quickest solution is to raise the pitcher approximately 1/4″ by putting something (such as a mouse pad) underneath it. As far as any drips or leaks from the back side (opposite where the outlet nozzle is) that others have commented about, I did not encounter those, but there is an overflow port on that side. If the water chamber is overfilled, or if it is moved too quickly while full, water will leak out this overflow (as it is designed to do). Besides this particular port, some other leaks that others have commented about sound like they are due to leaking fittings in the water chamber.

    This is a great iced tea maker! My husband and I both drink iced tea year round. This is easy to use, brew time is pretty quick, and the tea is consistently delicious. We like strong tea, and if that is your preference, here is a tip: fill the pitcher to the 3 quart line and pour it into the water tank. Use 6 tea bags. Run the brew cycle with NO water or ice in the pitcher. When it’s done, pour 3 more quarts of water into the tank, and using the same tea bags, run the brew cycle again. When you’re all done, you will have a full pitcher of perfectly brewed, strong tea. It will be hot, since no water or ice was put into the pitcher, but that hasn’t been an issue as I brew at night and leave in the fridge to drink the next day. I have had absolutely no problems or issues at all. No leaking or anything else. This is absolutely the best iced tea maker I have ever used! I love it!

    I gave this tea maker a 1 because the insulation on the power cord was very stiff and broke at the point it goes into the tea maker (strain relief). It became an electrical hazard when the wires became visible, not to mention a fire hazard. I will not be buying any more Mr. Coffee products.

    This is a fine tea maker for every day use. We had a similar one that lasted over five years before it finally quit on us. I would have rated this five stars except that the lid for the pitcher was broken upon arrival (see picture). This really stinks. I have contacted the Mr. Coffee website to see about replacing it but no response yet. I will update if things change.

    This tea maker works GREAT. A lot of the reviews helped me determine the best way to make tea the way we like it. Here’s what I found out… We don’t like our tea watered down, so I didn’t use the iced tea directions that came with it as it’s designed to make just over a quart of tea with the rest ice. We wanted to have a full pitcher of tea, let it cool, put in the fridge, then add ice later. Valuable lesson that I learned… Do NOT fill the water in the pitcher beyond the “Water 3 qt line” (which is just over a quart of actual water). It doesn’t seem like you’re putting much water into the machine, but if you try to put a lot more water into it, it’ll come right out the spout in the front and the little hole that’s in the back (I made a big water mess the first time trying to put more water in). The machine will actually fit about 1.5 quarts of water, but I found that when I put that much in, it didn’t brew the rest of the water and had some tea backed up into the tea bag basket. Here are the steps that I used to make a full pitcher of strong, sweetened tea (my family likes Celestial Raspberry Zinger Herbal Tea): 1. Fill the provided pitcher with water to the “Water 3 qt” line (filtered, if you have it); again, it’s just over 1 qt of actual water. Remove the tea basket holder and pour the water into the machine. Put the tea basket holder back in. 2. If you plan on making a full pitcher of tea, put 12 tea bags into the basket, slide the water spout back over the top of the basket, close lid, and set the switch on the front to “strong” (modify to fit your needs). 3. Put the pitcher securely in front of the machine with spout under the opening (see photo). Push button on the side to turn it on and brewing will begin (takes about 10 minutes to brew – power switch light on the side turns off when it’s done). It’ll fill the pitcher with about 1 quart of actual tea. We wanted a full pitcher of tea with NO ice, so… 4. Carefully open the water reservoir again (the steam is HOT) and remove the basket but KEEP the same tea bags in the basket. Using a separate pitcher, fill machine with just over 1 quart of water. Turn the machine on again to brew adding to the current tea. This fills the provided pitcher to about the 2 qt line. 5. Repeat step 4 once more to get 3 full quarts of tea! 6. OPTIONAL: Pour the 12 tea bags into the pitcher to let it steep about another 15-20 minutes (to get the most out of the tea bags). If you like it sweetened, ADD 3 TABLESPOONS OF STEVIA IN THE RAW (calorie-free, natural sweetener) or whatever your preference. Let cool for a bit then put into the fridge. Serve over ice. It turns out PERFECT. The other awesome perk of this tea maker is the design of the pitcher. It fits perfectly on the door of our fridge and even on a short shelf (see photo). Just be careful of tea spilling out of the spout as one side of the lid is an open spout for brewing, and the other side is a straining spout, so there’s no “closed” option like with a circular pitcher. Just something to be aware of. I highly recommend!

    I like this machine better than the “original” Mr. Coffee Ice Tea Maker I bought 10+ years ago, but it has some major design flaws. I purchased it from a big box store because I needed it immediately for a barbecue and did not have time to research other machines. I would highly recommend purchasing a different machine because of these flaws: 1. The water fill line on the machine is impossible to read. The letters are raised and blend into the plastic and it is in an awkward place. I use the machine with the “on” button facing forward. This requires the pitcher to fit to the right of the machine. In the provided photo of machine with pitcher, The water fill line is located under the spout of the pitcher. This area is actually colored (in this photo, it is red), my machine is black). This area is NOT translucent, so the markings are impossible to read. SEE PROVIDED PHOTO #1 2. There is a small hole in the back of the machine(not sure what purpose it serves). But, if you overfill the reservoir, the water drains out of this hole all over your counter area! SEE PROVIDED PHOTO #2. 3. The pitcher top fits very snug and is difficult to get on and off. It has to be gradually eased off from side to side. I tried warming the plastic top under boiling hot water to “adjust” the fit, but was not able to fix it. 4. This machine takes longer to brew the tea than my previous Mr. Coffee Ice Tea Machine and I only use the “Mild” setting. Even though the Ice Tea is Very Good and the machine is easy to clean, I cannot recommend this machine.

    I was hesitant at first but after trial and error it’s very easy to use to make sweet tea as that was my intent for getting this. Measure up the water line as it’ll say in the directions, dump it into the maker and then put the teabags of your choosing into the tea holder. Make sure to leave the teabag strings out if you can. Before turning the maker on, put a cup of sugar (more or less depending how sweet you want it) into the container and then turn the maker on (the button turns orange when its on) and stir the sugar every so often as the tea is being made. The tea will get hot enough so the sugar melts. Being careful if you can and take out the teabags once the maker is done (the button will automatically turn off) and let them sit in the container to soak for a little bit. After that, you can put as much ice as you want or none at all into the container and drink it from there or leave it in the fridge. That is how I do it! The only complaint I would have is that the lid is a bit feisty to be put onto the container. But other than that, cleaning the container, the lid, and the tea holder is very easy as that’s all you would need to clean. I would recommend this to anyone looking to make automatic sweet or unsweetened tea 🙂

    I had Mr. Coffee’s original design for 20+ years before it malfunctioned (wouldn’t shut off when done). I figured since that one lasted a long time, I’ll stick with Mr. Coffee and get the bigger pitcher. After two years, the bottom rusted out and stained my counter top. I’m purchasing their newest model (BVMCTM33RB1). Hopefully it lasts longer than two freakin years. Last chance, Mr. Coffee. Last chance.
