Purchased the BV1901TS on December 17, 2018, for $129.49. On, or about, August 28, 2019 it suffered a catastrophic failure. Upon plugging in the unit, I heard a brief, unusual, “buzzing sound” coming from inside the unit. Upon depressing the switch, I heard the buzzing sound again and the unit smelled hot. I stood with the unit and noticed that it was not heating water. The unit was unplugged and Bonavita was contacted via their website’s warranty section, describing the issue and answering their detailed questions. On September 13, 2019, I finally heard from Bonavita (via email) and they stated that they would be sending a new unit to me. On September 17, 2019, I received word from FedEx that my shipment was on it’s way from “Espresso Supply” in Woodinville Washington. On September 24, 2019, I finally got a replacement unit. Upon inspecting the old unit, I discovered that all of the interior screw heads (heating unit, circuit board, wire retainer, etc) were rusted severely. The metal water supply tube was showing signs of rust. The tension clips, that secured the water lines, were also completely rusted. The connection, between the heater wire and the heater, was burnt to the point of disintegrating the female connector when touched. The male connector (blade) had residual metal stuck to it and a corner of the blade burnt off. This unit had never been even close to being submerged in water as it had only been hand cleaned. It also was descaled, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, on a regular basis. When brewing coffee, the unit was pulled out from under the overhanging cabinet, so as to have ample air flow for the steam coming through the top to escape, and it was allowed to cool before placing back under the cabinet. Having never purchased a coffee maker of this price, and theoretical value, we went to great lengths to maintain it. This unit had worked flawlessly, from the time we first received it, until it failed. However, looking inside, there is an obvious issue with internal moisture, around the circuit board and heating unit, as well as very low quality internal parts being used in this unit’s construction. This is a definite safety/quality issue, and fire hazard, that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer.
It fits my small countertop. Works just as good as the big one I have.
Edit:Just brewed the first pot of coffee this morning and the carafe leaks at the base of the spout/rim. It leaks when you pour. Pretty disappointed with this order. My package arrived in a large cardboard box (to be expected) but inside was another cardboard box that wasn’t labeled. Wasn’t the original manufacturers packaging. I’m missing the owners manual, the serving spoon (pictured is the notch where you hang the serving spoon), and it’s also missing the mesh filter. I’d rather buy from another store and get ALL the pieces for the product :(
It just sprayed hot coffee on my husband …. And all over the kitchen! I do t know if he is doing something wrong but this shouldnt be possible .
I absolutely love this coffee pot. I wanted a small one to put on my desk at work and this was perfect. It not very loud and you don’t even know it’s brewing until it’s almost done. The only thing I don’t like is the lid will not stay closed but I fixed that problem by putting something heavy on it to make it stay closed.
Would not buy again, glas carafe broke on the buttom. Never had this happen before. Now I am trying to see if I could use a thermal carafe and that seems to be impossible to find out just on the order page :(
This unit is fantastic. Beville knocked it out of the park on this design. It super customizable without being difficult. I highly recommend this unit to anyone, but definitely to people who like to experience the with different roasts/temp/brew time/etc. The ONE thing I would recommend is getting this glass carafe version OVER the thermal. I had the thermal unit for about a year or so (loved it), BUT… I wanted to clean the lid to the thermal carafe. After much research, there is no way to open the lid to clean out the coffee that flows through it. I did a bunch of research and found folks that had posted about it. One person showed a picture after taking a knife to it and cracking it open; it was disgusting. Old coffee and what appeared to be mold. That’s a MAJOR design flaw with that lid. That said, I contacted Breville and made them aware of the issue. They gave me the glass unit on free swap. The glass carafe doesn’t have a closed off lid to retain heat since there is a warming plate, so it’s super easy to clean. I find the warming plate to be the correct temp; it does not burn the coffee. You will not be disappointed in this coffee machine!
I DECIDED TO WRITE IN ALL CAP'S, THIS IS THE BEST COFFEE MAKER I HAVE EVER OWNED, and I wanted to shout about it!!!! This coffee maker is perfect for early morning rush. Matter of fact, it stays very warm until mid day, the next day! The ease of making the coffee, is nice for the huster as well. He can make us coffee quick without any problems at all. 1-2-3, and you got hot, flavorful coffee. I went through 4 coffee makers, with the trouble of sending them all back, until this one arrived. And if you are looking for a very beautiful coffee machine, this Zojirushi maker, is the one! It looks great on my coffee bar, as well. You'll find yourself drinking coffee more than once a day!
Here's the skinny. Over the years, I've had about every kind of coffee pot there is, ranging from a French press, to a Mr. Coffee, to one of the ones that keeps the water super-heated and coffee only takes seconds to make fresh, to my current pot, a Keurig. I was interested in trying this pot, as it's definitely a different design than I've tried in the past, but I also love some cold-brew coffee. This pot is not as intuitive at first as your basic coffee pot, and the instructions aren't quite as user-friendly and thorough as I would like. Still, I managed and got it going. I know this coffee was supposed to knock my socks off, and it was good - don't get me wrong. But is it worth the price point, the sacrifice of counter space, and the time? That, I'm not sure, or at least not for my life and lifestyle. There are some days when I don't sit down for 10+ hours, and I need coffee, STAT. I don't have time to wait. I think that if you're shopping for people who really have the time and luxury to sit down and savor coffee - vs pouring it down their throats to survive, as I do - then this is fantastic. I do like the pot. It just doesn't like my lifestyle!!
The sleek new design and look can program to make coffee before I get up.
I bought this coffee maker for about $105 in December 2019 after doing a lot of online research. I have been happy with the taste of the coffee it made but after a couple of years it started to stop during the brewing cycle. When that occurred I was always able to get it going again by running multiple cleaning cycles. (I never understood why all the cleanings were needed since we do not have hard water and always use filtered water for brewing.) Today, however, it stopped mid-cycle and also had the dreaded burnt electrical smell indicating something major had failed. When I took it apart I found that one of the power wires had burnt up where it connects to the circuit board and partially melted a relay on the board. I have not been able to find the circuit board anywhere online to purchase so I will be tossing the entire coffee maker into the trash - what a waste! I don't think that I will be buying another one at the current price!
The coffee maker was easy to put together after I looked it up on-line. It only took seconds to program. The instructions that were included, were difficult to follow, especially with no pictures. I have purchased more than 1 coffee maker over the years. Mr. Coffee is simple and inexpensive. I also have a 12 cup for when we have guest.
We’ve had this type of coffee pot for years, Hamilton Beach brand. Thought I’d try a “new” one. This thing was a nightmare! It had a pin hole on the lid, I assume for steam release, well it spewed coffee all over my wall. Then it would leak all down the side! I tried no filter, with a filter, pre-ground coffee from a can, beans ground fresh and course at the store. Nothing made a difference, it all made a mess. I had to return it and go back and buy the old faithful HB brand again.
For a cheap priced coffee maker, this bad boy has you covered. It works and it makes you're coffee great in a short amount of time. What else could you ask for besides a million dollars?
I was spending money on coffee everyday and that needed to stop . I wanted something that I could froth the milk myself since I like white chocolate mocha and the powder mixes in the best with the steam wand. It was also very important to me that I could set the temperature as I like my coffee really hot. I wanted something that made customizable coffee but also looked good on my counter. This is it! I now make coffee every morning, it’s delicious, I absolutely will save money in the long run and I don’t have to leave my dogs to go to the coffee shop. IF YOU HAVE THIS IN YOUR CART BUY IT, you won’t regret it. Pro Tip: DON’T buy cheap coffee with your nice new machine. I love Stumptown coffee from Portland so I got that and it’s delicious. Get nice coffee ! Enjoy
