   When chemex filter prices started going out of sight I shopped coffeemakers.us.com and found the Melitta 640616 Coffee Maker, 52 oz, Glass Carafe. This system works great for a reasonable price. The filters are readily available at a good price too. I like how it fits on the top rack of my dishwasher. The filter cone is fluted so the water flows evenly and quickly through the grounds. Great pour over system. I don’t plan on using anything else from now on.

   This coffee maker in my opinion makes the tastiest home brew you can make. It’s easy to use and your coffee runs through fast, I believe much faster than an electric drip machine. You can make how many cups you want in an instant. Great when we travel to whether staying in a hotel or camping, it’s fast, practical and convenient. I will never own an electric one. Love this simple yet practical unit!

   It’s durable, easy to clean, cost effective, and brews delicious coffee. Didn’t want to spend money on a Chemex right now, this works perfect in the meantime. filters are pretty cost effective too. Very happy with this. Skip the french press, opt for this instead!

   This is the best and easiest cold brew maker I have used. I just scoop the coffee into a jar, however much I want, to make it however strong I want, then I pour in water, put the lid on the jar (a large mason jar or a juice bottle both work well), shake it up, then put it in refrigerator for two days. Then I pour it all into this carafe to filter out the grounds. It couldn’t be easier, and the cold brew comes out great every time. I use #6 cone filters as shown in the pictures, which are hard for me to find in the grocery store, but easy to get on coffeemakers.us.com!

   Excelente cafetera, su diseño permite extraer los aromas y sabores del café. A pesar de ser algo grande (idealmente para filtros Melitta No. 6) también se pueden utilizar filtros Melitta No. 2 y No. 4.     Works great and as expected, and can’t beat the price. I have an induction stove so boiling water in my stove top kettle is fast. I use the melitta no 6 natural brown filters with it (found them for $2.50 for a package of 40!). Coffee comes out great. I already have a Nespresso but now that both me and hubby work from home, it is more economical to make a pot of coffee in the morning and use the Nespresso for single serving. I thought about getting a gooseneck kettle and Chemex set up but I wanted to try and easy fuss free pour over first and am glad I did! It’s so easy and fast to use and clean and makes great tasting coffee. If I have any leftover coffee I pour it into an insulated mug/thermos to keep it hot.

    This pour over coffee brewer really impressed me. It is extremely easy to use compared to other pour over brewers I’ve used like the Chemex and Hario v60. It is more consistent as well since you don’t need to pour a specific way. I am very happy it includes a carafe so I can brew a large batch for me and friends without having to make multiple batches as with the Hario v60. I have used generic grocery store preground coffee, as well as, specialty coffee ground right before brewing, and the flavor is great on both. For the price and convenience, I’ve been recommending my family and friends to pick one up.

    I have been using my Melitta for years now and it’s hard to find coffee that tastes as good as it does when you brew it this way. I’ve broken the carafe a few times and had to order replacements, but this is still cost effective when comparing to other fancy brewers on the market that TRY to make coffee this good. Once you have your hot water ready to go, this brews the coffee swiftly so you don’t have to wait too long for that first cup!

    The main difference between the 21st century version of this coffee maker and its mid-century incarnation is the color of the filter cone, the former being transparent plastic. The borosilicate glass carafe still bears the name Schott, one of Germany’s most respected glass works. The design and operation are the same: slip in the filter, measure in the ground coffee, bloom it with a careful splash of boiling water, wait about a half- to a full minute, pour in the rest in a steady circular motion. When the water has drained through, take away the cone, slip on the keep-warm cover, pour and enjoy. Yes, I know it’s the same method as the Chemex that predates it in the USA and, yes, the Chemex coffee maker never lets the brewed coffee come into contact with plastic, but I’ll lay odds that even the staunchest fan of Chemex or any other brand wouldn’t be able to do much better than chance in a double-blind taste test. We keep this one on hand for when we’re in the mood for some decaf with dessert, and the pour-over method seems to bring forth the fullest flavor. The technique takes a little more precision than I can muster at 3:00 in the morning so we also have a programmable electric Melitta to perfume the house with the aroma of a fresh pot of coffee by the time the alarm clock goes off. The cone, carafe and lid can go into the dishwasher and, as an added bonus, the filter cone fits the carafe from our previous electric coffee maker, allowing continuous java production during a dinner party. If there’s a drawback, it’s not the fault of the coffee maker itself but market dynamics that make #6 filters hard to find in bulk. No biggie. The ubiquitous #4 filter fits just fine and requires only a small adjustment to the pour-over rate. Better yet, use the “stopwatch” method: after the first bloom, drizzle the water in a circular motion just enough to keep the grounds wet for 30 seconds, wait 30 seconds, repeat. A little extra effort yields a lot more flavor.
