I love this machine, but as stated in many reviews it for regular grind, Maxwell House type canned coffee. This recent purchase is my 2nd of this model, the first one lasted 12 years of everyday use. I worked in an office that had the BUNN commercial water piped up type units and where all you did was push the button and it made coffee. So This was going to be the hot ticket for me. Unfortunately i liked strong rocket fuel coffee. Fine ground coffee and lots of it. Can't see the bottom of the spoon strong. I experienced the same overflowing of the basket as other fine ground coffee drinker here in these reviews did. BUNN sent out the new diffuser but did not help. The fix, a big help is using the commercial coffee filters made for the office coffee machines, they are 9-1/2 inches in diameter, (home filters are only 8 inches) just a little big for this basket but having a damp basket allows you to push the filter in tight. And the only thing that will work is to trim down the water valve actuator, see picture. I trimmed about a 1/4 inch off the tip of the white valve actuator. Tried cutting a tiny bit at a time until the basket filled up, almost, but never overflowed. I was using the COSTCO Colombian fine ground roast in the 3 lb can. Very fine grind but makes rocket fuel.
Less than a year and it no longer works. I keep getting Error Code 17 stating Overpressure detected. I have shut it off several times and restarted and done several rinse brews....no luck. VERY disappointed that a "commercial" brewer being used for two cups a day would fail like this. NOT worth the price! I had a conventional Keurig that lasted several years but when it was time to "upgrade" felt it was a worthwhile investment since I love the product. I could have bought 3 machines for what I paid for this one. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
When my old coffee pot broke and was discontinued I was sure I would not find one as good as it was. I was wrong ! I have used this coffee maker for 2 months and have been totally happy with it. The Stainless Carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. It has a X-HOT function function, which I measured with a laser @ 200° F. The display is easy to read and the controls are simple to set. I never change settings so its 1 button on. The basket is easy to clean, I use paper filters, not the included washable filter. Several times I have found out that if you forget to put the basket in and put the filter in alone the coffee does not spill all over and it makes coffee as normal. Bonus feature ! Just don't try to sneak a cup ! I have had no problems with the coffee maker at all. Highly recommended. I love the Cuisinart brand.
Had this for several month's now. It is still going. Don't listen to the bad reviews. This keurig is amazing for all that it does. The price is great and the keurig is great. Remember when using chocolate blend. Clean it by using the hot water option it has. Love this
Purchased in 2019, and used a couple times a week. When part of the LED display burned out a year ago [when it was 20 months old] - i was like “whatever” it still works and with only 1 section missing from the display, i could still figure out what it was trying to display. Now [march 2022 - 3 years old] the buttons dont work. Planned obsolescence i guess? So i rated it 2 stars, because i loved it while it worked. The permanent filter still looks and works great - hope it fits the non-ninja replacement i just bought lol. I’m pretty old and guess expect coffee makers to last longer than this. On the flip side, it was awesome while it lasted and projecting the cost of over time, it cost me about $40 per year… but now it ends up in a landfill and that is very upsetting. Stuff like this that doesnt last? Where do you think it goes after you toss it out? Val
Four days into my experience and this new Keurig is overall a welcome mix of new features and a calculated list of obsolete/removed formerly sought after features. • Biggest new plus: programmable pre-sets so you can pick and reuse your favorite temp/brew strength/size combo (three memory buttons with a hold to save like a car radio preset). Preset is customizable across 3 settings each for temp and brew strength, 5 settings for beverage size. • Energy Savings: Has no clock or on timer - turns off after 5 min after last use PERIOD. BUT - turns on and is an instant on demand - no big internal hot water tank, no noticeable delay in brewing. Saves power and is faster overall than waiting for the heat-up on my older style machine. • Now has a 5 needle injection system to provide water - so in theory better brew flavor/quality. This negates many of the older reusable k-cup systems, but this unit does come with one such new style k-cup. • Overall MUCH quieter than the older models. The sounds are significantly different if you use a stronger brew setting, but the actual “ingest water” is lacking that giant pump hum of earlier models. • No "powered on" light in the water tank like my old k-elite, (unless there's a "fill me" light up alert which I have not tested for) but this is fairly minor since the new “with handle” style of tank is much easier to carry to the sink for filling than ANY previous model that I’ve experienced over the years. • Has "over ice" settings which I probably won't ever use - but i can see the appeal for some people. • The counter footprint is about 1/3 less than more traditional models, and the removable tank allows for easy use even when partially under a cupboard. The flip up for k-cup loading still requires a chunk of room naturally. My only minor gripe thus far is that the mug platform is a touch undersized for my large (30 oz) mug's base - another half inch would have been perfect.
I will start out by saying that I've been making my own cold brew for approximately 2 years now. Prior to this, I was "wasting" a lot of money buying cold brew on a nearly daily basis. I love a cold glass of cold brew in the summer after dinner. It's usually my dessert! I also love the taste of coffee, and I only add a little milk (sometimes half/half) to my cold brew, no sweetener. I have been more than happy with my County Line Mason Jar cold brew maker. I've had it for two years and never once had coffee grounds in my finish product. It makes an extremely strong cold brew. Only downfall is the 14 plus hours to make it! There have been many of nights that I wanted to kick myself for forgetting to make it when it ran out! Enter the "Dorothy"! What a fantastic idea, I thought. I wondered if it would work. I read through the reviews, and depending on what you want to believe, some say yes, other said no. Here is MY opinion after using this for about a month now. It does work! I can say that what I've made in this rapid brewer has tasted fantastic, and I have not had any grounds in my finished product (although it can be a bit cloudy/silt). I think that silt is a problem more with the French Press, which this is like! I have never had an issue getting the "tornado", or whirlpool to form. I can say that when using filtered refrigerator water that you will have to double (possibly triple) the amount of time needed to make the coffee as strong as you would with room temperature water. I have also noticed a difference in cold brew strength depending on how fast the coffee is introduced to the "tornado". The instructions say to add the coffee slowly, so definitely do that! I have now been filling the carafe slightly below the max line (using refrigerated water), using 2/3 cup of coffee grinds (store purchased, but not freshly ground), and running this for an hour. I've gotten into the habit of starting this process while I'm cooking dinner. Bottom line here is that I don't think you can obtain "concentrate strength" cold brew with the Dorothy, but filled close to the max will give you more than enough for two large glasses of cold brew. And it will still taste as good (more coffee, less milk/creamer) in the rapid brewer. As long as the instructions are followed, I don't find it "watered down" at all, as some reviews have stated. My last batch was quite strong (1 hour spinning). Deviating from the instructions (like when I just dumped the entire 2/3 cup of coffee in at once), and you might experience different results. My biggest knock on this product would be the fragile glass carafe. Be careful!! I actually broke the first one in a week (my mistake, as it was bumped off the counter). I can't say that any glass would have survived that fall on a wooden floor. To order a replacement carafe from Presto would be $20, plus $9 shipping, so I bought another new Dorothy for $35 (Prime, no shipping). Now I have spare parts. But this carafe feels very fragile and I use extreme caution even washing it (I hand wash all parts even through it states that it is dishwasher safe). That brings me to my second criticism, cleaning the Dorothy. Let's just say it is messy! Coffee grinds all over the place trying to get the press part/plunger off of the stirring cup. I've learned to use a plastic bag (grocery store bag or bread bag) and place the plunger, with stirring cup still attached, in the bag and release the stirring cup from the plunger (which once you know how, it's easy to release) all in the bag. Yes you have some liquid in the bag, but this keeps most of the grounds from going down into the plumbing. I just have a paper towel or two in the bag to absorb the liquid. I enjoy having fresh cold brew that I can make relatively quick, so for that, I recommend the Dorothy. I will continue to use my old cold brew maker, but definitely have room in my kitchen for the Dorothy! My daughter also thinks it's so cool to watch, and she doesn't drink cold brew, but offers to make it for me!! Bonus!
After using my second pot just like this it blew up. I was in such shock I couldn't even take a picture all I could think of is how am I going to have coffee now? I am grateful it didn't become a flying missile because with a force of that explosion it could have broken bones. Here is some of the aftermath most of it's been cleaned up already.
This is a fine coffee machine. It's easy to get using straight out of the box with clear instructions for utilizing the one function option. This option is for a "blooming" of the coffee grounds to eliminate built up CO2 than can affect flavor. Turning this option on involves simply holding the ON switch for a few seconds. I like the machine's simplicity and the double-walled carafe will keep coffee warm for a long time (although if you're going to want it to stay warm for more than an hour, I recommend heating the inside by running 2 cups of water through the machine before brewing or filling the carafe with hot tap water for a minute or two). My biggest complaint is that the one thing that's supposed to make this machine so great is its "showerhead" sprinkler system. It's designed with an array of holes, but from what I can see, in mine, only two of the holes seem to work. The flavor of the coffee is fine, but I'm not sure it provides the same depth or balance as pour-over. Possibly this is because the sprinkler system isn't working properly. I'd have given 4/5 stars for design, ease of use, and performance but took off one star because it doesn't function as advertised. Awaiting response from Bonavita. Picture 1 - Brewing. You can clearly see the sprinkler system and the fact that only two holes are working. Picture 2 - Post brew picture of grounds. Clearly water was mostly coming from center hole and grounds along the outer edge of the filter are not as saturated. Two small dry spots visible at about the 2:00 and 3:00 positions from center. Video 1 - Brew cycle. 4 cups of water yields a brew time of just over 5 minutes. The point of posting a full brew cycle video is to illustrate that most of the sprinkler system isn't working. Updated April 20, 2020.... Customer service was easy enough to deal with. Contacted them online and submitted the same pictures and video I posted here. After being asked to fill out an online form which they linked me to via email, I was informed that they were sending me a brand new machine. It has arrived and while not all of the holes in their “shower head” design are active at all times, it seems to be working MUCH more effectively than the original. I have increased my rating to 4-stars. If the machine continues to function well for a month or so I may come back and increase the review to 5-stars. Not every item can be prefect but when your customer service is good and easy to work with, I’ll come back to your company.
This is brilliant. The most amazing cold brew system. The mesh is so fine and easy to take care of. It’s sturdy, handles well, and looks great in any fridge. My only complaint is the faucet spot is a tad slow. Be sure to purchase a coarse blend for your coffee. I prefer these two types.
First time buying coffee brewer, and I really like it, easy to clean. Coffee made my day perfect, strongly recommend.
The coffee maker worked as it should. The quality of the coffee maker looks good. It comes with its coffee mug, but after making coffee the mug feels hot on the outs side, which I did not like because I had a hard time handling the mug.
I’m in love with this little coffee maker! It makes a perfect cup of coffee every time. In reply to what others may complain about: Water Reservoir has to be refilled for each cup. Not a deal breaker for me since I was looking for something small and compact for traveling. I use a small measuring cup from dollar tree. I like a stronger coffee and my husband likes it a little weaker. It’s easy to measure out how many ounces we each want. It takes longer to brew than the Keurig. I don’t notice it taking much longer. By the time I finish brushing my teeth my coffee is hot and ready. On average we make about 4-6 cups a day when we are traveling and this tiny little powerhouse of a coffee / Kcup brewer is perfect! It packs away nicely. It’s lightweight. You can use your own reusable filter. And let’s not forget how cute it is!! In fact, my husband thought it was a kids toy at first 🤣 He wasn’t sure of the orange color either but I was going for a 70’s vibe so I won😁
Used to make cold brew, grounds would still get through the filter so it still needed to go through additional filtration before consumption. Hand washed and dried, but cracked after 2 months of use.
I read a lot of mixed reviews prior to my purchase and my gut instinct was right. If you aren’t having a good experience with this piece of equipment, you just aren’t brewing properly. If you employ all the good standard practices of making a pour over, you will have a good cup of coffee. 15g of coffee roasted within the last month and ground fairly course with a 1:17 ratio of coffee to water at 205 degrees, bloom, then add gradually until you reach approximately 250mL. This is perfect for making a single cup of coffee in an environment where you can’t reliably have your full setup—obviously you’ll still need a grinder and a hot water source. For $20, there simply is no beating this thing. I’ve definitely found my #1 travel and work companion when it comes to coffee brewing. Extremely well done, Oranlife.
