It took me all of 30 minutes to install it. One note. To be safe get a way to secure the lid. I was thinking black tape, but am going to put some very small screws on the lid.
Used twice so far. Upgraded from a $13.99 Mr. Coffee switch on switch off. I got used to opening the top of my Mr coffee and putting the coffee in the filter as it was seated in the basket housing. With the bonavita, I can't do that. The filter basket is on the counter as I'm filling it and it doesn't even sit flat. My second time putting coffee in, I bumped it and dumped the whole basket of ground beans on the floor. First time I used this, I don't really know what happened but when I went to get a cup of coffee, the pot and filter had overflowed all over, huge mess. The coffee tastes good and I like the carafe but it doesn't keep the coffee super hot like I like it. I like the bloom function. Not sure this bonavita is worth the money. I will try to be less clumsy with it and see how it goes.
This coffee maker cost $25. That's like 2 or 3 of those big whip-creamy looking things at Starbucks. And this is an actually physical thing that you can go make some more coffee with the next day. Whereas those expensive Starbucks drinks you just have that one brief moment and then they're gone forever. Which makes me want to ask... Does anybody know why people spend $7 on a "coffee" drink? I just don't get that. Oh... the Coffee Pot.... Lately I have not been drinking quite as much coffee and noticed that I was throwing a fair amount away in the afternoon. My old reliable ??? (whatever) died after I gave it a bath so I thought "I'm just going to buy a mini-me coffee maker because I don't need as much coffee". Sound concept, but in reality the Coffee Maker feels just a bit "flimsy" and the coffee does not taste quite as robust. NOT A PROBLEM. I'm going to box this cute-little-guy up for another purpose and get something a little more substantial for my every-day use. Even though I'm not going to use my little Black and Decker Coffee Maker all the time I am DAMN PROUD to live in a country that can make a fine product like this!
This works straight out of the box.
For the price, I was hoping for coffee magic to happen and for this to produce the best French press coffee ever to have been made. But I found that there are pluses and minuses to this design. The cheery and bright color is really inviting, and if you need some coffee you also could probably use a cheery and bright greeting in the kitchen. The steel is sturdy and heavy and the enamel is good quality as is the screen filter. If you drop this it won't break. It's also heavy, but if you're car camping and not backpacking, this is a great choice for an unbreakable coffee press that will probably not be bothered by a knock on the ground. It is double-walled, so it's really well insulated. The coffee stays warm for over an hour. If you add milk or stir in sugar, it will just be lukewarm and not hot any more, depending on ambient temperature. So it's not going to keep your coffee hot for a long time if you're winter camping! You can't see the coffee as you make it, so you have to depend on careful measuring and a timer to get the brew that you prefer. You can't see where the grounds are as you send the plunger down, or how dark the brew is before you pour it. I thought I detected a slight metallic taste, but the coffee was lower in acidity than a brew in a drip machine, so the cup of coffee was still very good, bringing out the nutty elements with a smooth bouquet. Finally, if you have any sensory issues, you might not like the sound/vibration of the steel-on-steel plunger as you depress it to brew and raise it to remove it after for cleaning. The tight fit means no grounds in the cup, but it also means metal-on-metal during use, though the slower you plunge the less noticeable it is. This device might be for you if you like the design, the color, the durability, the extra time it keeps coffee warm, and don't mind the cost, the lack of visibility and the metal-on-metal sensation.
Product worked fine for about a dozen uses. Coffee tasted alright–but I wouldn't recommend using this for really expensive, fresh-roasted coffee because it does reduce the flavor profile significantly compared to a French press. Plus, the glass just broke after half a dozen uses, when I was pouring 200F water onto the grounds from my electric kettle. That's 5F lower than the recommended temperature for brewing coffee, by the way, so not even max temp. Overall, not interested in a replacement. If it didn't break and I wanted something without plastic to replace my typical coffee maker, I might try again. My stainless steel French press will work just fine, though, so I'll stick with that.
The bottom popped out. It’s really a shame because I loved this. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Due to dripping from the carafe while pouring, ours have lasted about 1-1/2 years before needing replacement due to corrosion on the base plate. We started cleaning it with oil and it looks like it helps. Attached pictures is after one year of use. It appears there is a newer model that hopefully addresses this problem.
I “upgraded” from my 2008 model Bunn for Christmas. I did not read the reviews prior. My purchase was based off my father’s recommendation. He loves this coffee maker. We excitedly set it up Christmas morning and brewed a fresh pot of coffee with no complaints. That night we noticed a burning smell and frantically searched the ENTIRE house looking for a fire. Was really disappointed that it turned out to be this coffee pot. It’s been four weeks now and we can still smell the burning plastic scent when close to the pot. It’s probably terrible for our health but I guess it could be worse, it’s not COVID. I already got rid of our old Bunn so there’s no going back. The smell does fade but it takes a long time. Aside from the pungent smell, no complaints.
I love this color and the quality. I use it daily to for my cup of coffee. I love how it makes one cup at a time and that it has a reusable filter
Good looking appliance that I keep on the counter always- you can adjust the strength- we make tea in it but can be used for coffee as well
It arrived broken but there wasn’t even the broken piece. It was partially covered and almost cut me opening ☹️
Much like the fact that I won’t have to worry about breaking it. It makes just the right amount of coffee for our liking (21 oz but filled at around 16 oz). The only issue we have is cosmetic, paint as shown on the top was already missing upon arrival, looks like it was put together either before the paint drying or the plunger mechanism has something that is rubbing on the lid.
I used to have a job as the manager of an espresso shop. I am snobby about my coffee (and tea). Anyone who knows about the intricacies of balanced drip coffee flavor knows that a great deal depends on the TEMPERATURE of the brew. An ideal coffee brew should be brewed between 195 F and 200F. This machine delivers. Brewed at the perfect temperature, you can brew cheap coffee grounds or high-end fresh ground beans and both come out with outstanding well-balanced flavor. I used to own the previous version (CF091 model) and I upgraded to this CP301 because I drink a lot of Tea as well. I'll give several model comparisons. I have found the CP301 to brew at more consistent temperatures (and hotter) than the CF091. Very pleased. Teas are also especially sensitive to temperature. While Herbal teas can be brewed with boiling water, some of the more delicate teas require a slightly lower temperature to enjoy the full bodied flavor without scorching. This machine makes exceptional tea as well and has temperature variation for tea temps. You won't need to adjust your machine, just select the kind of tea you are brewing and it adjusts the temperature accordingly. Herbal 208F, Black Tea 189-205F, Oolong 185-199F, White Tea 180-190F, Green Tea 165-178F Some details on the machine: --11" (deep) including carafe handle x 12" (wide) with frother folded [extended frother adds 4.7" to width of unit] x 15" (high) **note: this unit is TALL and may not fit under low cabinets. You will not want to operate this unit under cabinetry because it does release steam and may damage your cabinetry. Also, the water reservoir needs to be lifted UP to remove and fill, so you will require extra few inches height clearance to operate and fill the machine. --the water reservoir is 9.5" high when removed. This is taller than the CF091 model. The old model was short enough to fit under my water cooler spout, this one is a little too tall. --single serve brewing is fantastic and offers a lot of options for cup sizes. The included measuring spoon takes out the guess work and I found that using their guide yields both perfect coffee and tea as long as you make the scoops heaping. Coffee measurements on front of scoop, loose leaf tea measurements on the back of scoop in green. The scoop shows all the different cup and carafe sizes offered in the machine. This is a great option if you are used to a Keurig machine as you can single serve brew for yourself at a fraction of the cost. --There are multiple options to make adjustments to your brewer: High altitude setting to adjust for boiling point, warming plate can be set to off, or adjust your time up to 4 hours with auto shut off at the end. Default setting is 2 hours with HOT set plate. Can be changed to WARM set plate to avoid scorching your coffee left for long periods of time. There is a "delay brew" option you can set to the time you want it ready in the morning. --Use #4 paper cone filters or included wire mesh permanent filter (included) [I use paper filters for both coffee and tea because I find the clean up easier] I find the mesh coffee filter lets through too much sediment for my fine grinds. The tea insert comes with its own filter and works great, but I still prefer to use a paper filter with loose leaf teas because clean up is a breeze. --DISHWASHER! The glass carafe, brew-through lid, permanent filters, removable filter holders, water reservoir, flip-top lid, frother whisk, and scoop are top-rack dishwasher safe. [this is according to the manufacture guide] --FROTHER-- the milk frother folds away when not in use. It works REALLY well. It does NOT heat the milk & is not a steamer, only froths. For warm drinks, I fill my mug with a little milk and sugar, place in microwave for 30 seconds, then froth. You can operate the frother and maker at the same time. Coffee can be brewed directly into that cup, or poured from the carafe. For cold drinks and iced coffee with cream, simply froth cold milk and add to iced coffee, it gives a perfect velvety texture to your drinks. You can even use the frother with liquid whipping cream! For whipping cream, be sure to use a very cold glass cup. (store one in the freezer.) --A simple half twist removes the frother attachment. I just twist and immediately run under hot water after each use and it stays clean. If you allowed milk to dry on it, simply twist off and place in dishwasher to sanitize and you're back in business. You can use any kind of milk with the frother (almond, soy, non-fat, etc.) Non-fat dairy milk will give you the most foam. If you like lots of foam, hold the frother at an angle just at the surface of the milk and your milk will double or more in size. --Intuitive: One of the things I was curious about before getting the machine was if it would remember my settings. It does! When I put in the tea filter holder, it remembers my last used setting for TEA. When I put in the coffee filter holder, it remembers my last used setting for coffee. This is fantastic, and makes the machine practical for switching between brew types. --Iced: You can brew iced coffee or tea over ice directly into the included glass carafe or make one cup at a time. I did not think I would use the "cold brew" feature, but once I tried it, I was HOOKED. I no longer go to Starbucks any more. I brew iced coffee right at home and it is smooth, sweet and delicious (not bitter at all.) PROs: makes great iced and hot coffee and tea with a multitude of sizing options. Cheaper than buying pods with better results from a fresh grind. Permanent filters included for both coffee and tea or use #4 paper cone filters. Separate coffee and tea filters & holders ensure no mingling flavors. Milk frother is easy to clean and use- the perfect accessory if you love velvety coffee house drinks. Auto shut off can be programed to run from 0-4 hours. Smaller overall footprint than the CF091. The largest travel size mug you will be able to clear is 8" high (my Yeti 30 ounce clears, but just barely.) This has eliminated a great deal of gadgets in my kitchen. I got rid of two milk frothers, tea balls, tea pot, tea strainers, French press, and pour over coffee maker. I purchased (separate) the Ninja double wall plastic pitcher and can brew a fresh pot of drinkable iced tea in about ten minutes. I brew straight into the pitcher and store it in my fridge. No more waiting all day for sun tea or waiting for tea to cool to drink iced. Ninja Coffee Bar 50-Ounce Double-Wall Tritan Over Ice Carafe for Iced Coffee and Tea (CFICE50W) CONs: It's really tall and needs an open space on your countertop to function properly. The drip-stop is automatic ONLY at the end of the brewing cycle. If you want to pause during brew, you need to press the drip stop button before and after removing/replacing carafe to pause and resume brewing. The glossy black surface is prone to fingerprints and won't match all kitchens. I would have preferred a matte neutral surface (or stainless) on the majority of the appliance. Hope this review and photos are helpful to your purchase decision. Willing to answer questions if you post a question to my review. :)
When you pull the coffee pot out it drips down onto the burner when you try to pour a cup it's spills it did it for a couple of days then it didn't do it for one day then it did it again. I am a regular coffee drinker I have an nespresso Next Generation which you can only use there pods so I wanted a small pot for the weekends when I'm not just having a cough for two and running out the door plus I can get kind of pricey with the pods. I am kind of picky but no I didn't want to clean up a big spill mess of coffee every morning I already spent 15 minutes just making coffee and feeding the cat in the morning don't need the extra 5 minutes cleaning up after spilled coffee. I need a small pot because I have very limited space. However the flavor of the coffee comes out good and as far as that part goes I just don't want to handle the mass of the spilling dripping down to the burner excessively. Bummer
