For a long time I've searched for Mr. Coffee's 4 cup coffee maker but all I've found here and on eBay is one that's not used. That one is at a ridiculous price when you add in a highway-robbery price for delivery. What would show up in my searches on coffeemakers.us.com was this 5 cup version. I had resisted buying it for about a year, but finally ordered it a few nights ago -- then promptly cancelled the order because some reviews made me think I wouldn't like it. Fast-forward to last night shortly before midnight. I decided to give this maker a chance to prove it was worth buying, so I hit the buy button. It was here, waiting for me when I woke up today. I love it. The design differences between this model and the 4 cup one were things I thought I would hate, but I don't. Really, I have only one quibble. The filters don't fit nicely in the filter holder, but that doesn't affect how they perform. Over time I may be disappointed if the pot's lid gets coffee stains on it. Cleaning this 5 cup model is easier than the 4 cup one is. That's because my hand fits more easily in the pot for drying it, thanks to the bigger size. I also like the finish on this model. It's mostly a matte white which will go with the matte white toaster oven I'll be receiving tomorrow. I also like the on/off switch that is on both models. I use an Echo smart plug that I can turn on via my voice as soon as I wake up: "Alexa, turn on coffee." The switch is always in the on position but the plug is off until I tell Alexa to turn on the coffee. When the maker is on, I appreciate the fact there is not automatic shut off after a certain length of time, like there is with other coffee makers. When having two mugs of coffee, I often don't get around to drinking the second mug till an hour or more later. I want it to be hot when I'm ready for it. Reheating coffee in the microwave is not the same as having the pot on the heat. There's a scientific reason for this. Now about the coffee: it tastes great with both models. I think it takes the 5 cup model longer to make the coffee but it's really not an issue. I will never brew 5 cups. Most often, I will use the 2-cup setting with 3 scoops of coffee. I like it strong. Someone needs to let Mr. Coffee know they are lousy at measuring cup sizes. My mug (which looks bigger in the photo than it actually is) holds 11 ounces. The 2 cup setting delivers a little less than 11 ounces. I think Mr. Coffee uses the usual cup size other coffee makers do: just 6 ounces per cup (not the expected 8 ounces for those of us who use a regular measuring cup for our cooking needs). But the 2 cup setting gives me less than 12 ounces. It's closer to 10.5 ounces. I doubt I'll ever use more than the 4 cup setting which will give me two mugs of coffee. The pot is easier to pour from versus the 4 cup version. Getting the last little bit out of the 4 cup version is difficult, but super easy with the 5 cup version. It's obvious I love this 5 cup model. I hope Mr. Coffee won't stop making it in the future like they did with the 4 cup version. When I need a new coffee maker, I want this model to be here, ready and waiting for me to hit the buy button again. UPDATE: After using the coffee maker for a while I noticed the lid on the pot has a faint stain that I can't wash off. I expect it to get worse over time so I ordered the black version so I could use the black pot in my white coffee maker (see photo). I know it'll get stained too, but I won't be able to see it. Totally worth it. I'm adding two photos to show how it looks if you want to avoid the coffee stains. You can just use the black pot or you can adapt the white pot to accomplish the same thing. Just remove the just the white lid and snap the black lid into the white pot. Photos show what I mean, I hope. This white pot/black lid is what I'm happiest with.
My coffee maker that I had for about a couple years had the carafe break while I was cleaning it. 😞. Off through the interview process of coffee makers. I’ve had good experience with Black and Decker products and ultimately chose this one. Wasn’t overly packed with plastic and was very easy to set up. Made my first pot this morning using the strong brew feature and the timed brew. Setting the timer was simple and easy to use. The coffee was not overly bitter and mellow flavor yet had enough kick to get me going. The filling and pouring is designed to pour towards the center. It’s a little different pour due the shape of the carafe Not a big deal. I would have liked a permanent filter included. Order one along with your purchase. For the price I think it’s a great value.
I really wanted to like this but it leaks! I’m so disappointed. The first time I tried it right after receiving it, I followed all of the directions, let it sit overnight and returned in the morning to find it sitting in a puddle of coffee on the counter. I thought maybe it was a fluke somehow so day two I tried again. I have included a picture of what it looked like 3 hours later. Definitely a slow leak where the clear plastic meets the base. I’m sooo bummed. It really looks like a high quality product but maybe the looks can be deceiving. For $55 I can’t believe it’s defective. Hopefully it was just a fluke.
It broke and shattered while trying to pour my first glass.
2nd purchase. Lost 1st one after 2 years of use during move. And happy with second one
At first I was disappointed that it did not have the wood exterior center, but now I have used the one sent me with the handle, and I like it very much, and have a bought the whole set. Nice Valentine present to me!
I love this little coffee maker. The reusable filter is open and very easy to use. The cup it comes with is awesome. It is HOT COFFEE!!! WOO-HOO.
I purchased this coffee machine because I accidentally threw away my capsule tray for the dolce gusto. Since finding the replacement part seems impossible I decided to buy this questionable brand to be able to use the capsules. First of all the machine is not stable. The base tray is leaning upwards, making the whole machine move, every time the level needs to be pushed down. The most concerning part is, what is being released in the water tank? I have tried to clean the machine several times, after the initial cleaning, and every time I notice the same issue. There is a white and oily residue being released in the water tank! The substance is being releasesd from the machine into clean water (unrelated to the capsule) every time the machine start brewing. It is not water bubbles! It is an oily and white residue. This item will be returned and definitely I’ll question coffeemakers.us.com on the issue. Be careful what you buy!
I have been really enjoying this little french press. Due to the size, it only makes enough coffee for one person, which is partly why I like it so much. It is just the right size for one person. My recipe is 20 grams of ground coffee and 300 grams of water – this makes a nice cup of coffee. The build quality is nice. I love the double walled construction. It looks very nice. The two cups that comes with it are well made and are fun if you want to use small cups. I also like the little spoon that it comes with. I use it to break the crust of floating grounds and stir them back in. I find it easy to clean using a narrow head brush and some soapy water.
Great plunger. Light and compact!
This is the 2nd time I have purchased this coffee maker. Not because mine quit, no, because I love it so much I ordered one for my son! Let me tell you what I love: Using the single serve side to make: a mug of hot chocolate, a bowl of Ramen noodles, or just get boiling hot water while making instant potatoes (easy peasy, no using the stove top). You can also use it for coffee, but the grandkids use it to make ramen noodles by themselves (with supervision of course, the water is hot). I hope they never stop making this coffee maker!
Drink a lot of coffee, and tea which is why I have a kettle. The water dispenser is an interesting design, and brews a delicious cup. The lid being able to double as a coaster is a nifty touch too. All the pieces fit together nicely, and the smell of the brewing coffee is borderline torturous. Highly recommended by this mechanic!
I should have sent it back...but I bought it for my RV. By the time I used it....months after I did use it, I smelled the burning smell. Me wanting coffee at the camp site...just used it...several times thinking this isn't right so I was diligent about turning it off and unplugging it ...i knew it wasnt right. But then I went to another site right after still thinking this isn't a burn off situation, but then one pot, the second cup came out cold and then nothing. Purchased Feb this year, started using it mid April, and now its June...and I got nothing. This thing is a potential fire hazard ...that smell was a warning I should have payed attention ..it could have burned down my RV. Do do it.
I think Zojirushi makes the best coffee maker on the market. I had to replace an old unit that finally stopped working. Initially I purchased (and returned) the Cuisinart with a stainless steel carafe. It was rated number one by a leading consumer magazine. It was less expensive, but at the end of the day the two things that matter most to me in a coffee maker - taste, and how long it can keep coffee hot - brought me back to Zojirushi. You will not find a better machine.
I did a taste test between pour-over and aeropress, and the pour-over won by a definite margin. It does take a little longer to get the coffee into the cup, though. Basket filters are less than a penny apiece at the grocery store, but are a little large for the Melitta cone. However, the excess can be gathered and clipped fairly easily, as shown in pic.
