I was excited to try cold brewing coffee and ordered this set up. The strainer was bent and out of round and as you can see the gasket in the lid did not fit. I ordered another, slightly more expensive set. I was going to return this one but broke the glass container of the new one on the first use. DO NOT USE THE LID TO LIFT THE CONTAINER WHILE THE STRAINER IS IN IT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S FULL OF COFFEE. Oh what a mess! The only difference between the two sets, beyond what can be seen in the photo, is the size of the cleaning brush and the packaging. The new brush is twice the size of the first one. I feel the first set, because of the defects, may have been bought from a site like Temo and resold on coffeemakers.us.com.
Once upon a time...I had the most beautifully designed, functional, and reliable German coffee makers. Braun. Krups. Black, white, mill and brew, and more. When my last Braun finally gave up after 10 years of faithful service, I went to buy another and found what you all found. They were gone from the U.S., driven out by a flood of cheap coffee makers. So, I began testing out all the runners-up. Cuisinarts came and went back. Zojirushi? Nope. Bonavita? Nah. And paying $300+ for a Technivorm Moccamaster? Forget it. I started getting my coffee on the outside, as they say. Then, last week, I was in BBB and saw this beauty. Was Germany back in the game? Turns out yes, but by way of China. And for all of you who think that’s a deal breaker, think again, my friends. I am happy to report that this new incarnation of Braun engineering, at least the KF 7170 that I have, is the real deal. Things I love: 1. That built-in lip in the back of the lid that catches EVERY drip of condensation and sends it back into the reservoir. 2. Coloring the steps in the water reservoir lime green. I can see them now! 3. All the adjustables; water hardness, warming plate temperature, brew strength (bold is really bold), and number of cups made. 4. Quiet operation. 5. Easy programming without having to be a math major. 6. Fair price. 7. Sturdy, substantial, and sleek design, with beautiful attention to fit and finish. 8. Oh, and AMAZING coffee, of course. UPDATE 5/1/18 First Clean Cycle! I've had this machine for about a month now, and with our hard water, the CLEAN light came on this morning. I don't like using chemicals, so I just poured a carafe of water in with a couple tablespoons of vinegar (no water filter or gold filter in there, of course). Then, I hit the CLEAN button, it flashes, then I hit the BREW button, now they are both flashing, and the machine just does its thing. The whole cycle only took about 15 minutes. Not sure why Braun says it can take up to 45 minutes, but mine was really fast. Then, both lights go off, I run one more pot of clean water through, and I'm good for another month. So far, so great. :) UPDATE 12/24/2019 After a zillion pots of coffee, VERY slowly, the warming plate started chipping off about 3 months ago, though the rest of the unit works like when it was new. So, today CHRISTMAS EVE DAY mind you, I called Braun customer service and not only were they there (amazingly), they told me that I had a three-year warranty on the machine (yay!) and that even though I couldn't find the receipt from BBB, they would still replace the unit for a nominal shipping fee of $15, sent to them with the cut cord to Delonghi. Don't have to send the whole unit back. And the woman, Angela, I spoke to was really nice and helpful. So, nice to know Braun still stands behind their products! It will take a couple of weeks to get the new unit, but that's fine. Saves me spending $100 on a new one. Go Braun!
Each morning I brew enough coffee for me and Hubby. There are times he sleeps in and wakes up to stale coffee. Viola! I can brew one cup for my early morning rising and he gets freshly brewed coffee. I love the color and it is compact! As you can see I created a little coffee cupboared to house my creamer and collagen powder. Again all compact. Perfect cup of joe every time.
Good brew and easy programming.
We mainly drink moka pot and Nespresso coffees. I always see people rave about pour overs and wanted to give it a try. The glass was packaged very well for shipping. I’m keeping the box because it makes it easy to pack. It’s a nice looking carafe, filter, and scoop. I watched a few videos for tips on extracting the best flavor from the coffee grounds. I used a ratio of 1:16 grounds to water. I started with a small amount of water to moisten and allow the grounds to bloom before swirling in half of the water. Once it drained, I added the remaining water. All in all a very simple process. The coffee itself was okay. I am more accustomed to moka and espresso strength flavor so this was a little watery to me. For the amount of work, it’s fine for a quick coffee. Clean up is pretty quick. I needed a brush to ensure the inside of the filter was clean from any grounds and residue that gets tripped between the metal layers. I am concerned based on other reviews that it could get clogged over time. This is the one piece that will take some maintenance.
Machine does not work. Can’t even get passed the initial set up. Water just starts pouring out from under it.
Set aside your k cups and begin enjoying this super smart and tech savvy coffee machine. Easy to use and tons of settings for coffee and tea, hot and cold. I really enjoyed grinding fresh coffee and brewing a pot. Even after standing for a few hours with the warmer on, it didn’t have that burnt taste. Really glad I got this machine and plan on using it for a long time!
The first thing noticed was that the colors in the photos are off. The product is a much brighter/bolder color than pictured, in this case the muted burnt orange item pictured is actually a bright punchy orange. So be prepared for that. Looking past that, comparing this to the Hamilton Beach single-serve Flexbrew that brews both k-cups and coffee grounds, this unit wins. It's easy to use, and is thankfully compatible with the 8 Reusable Keurig Single K Cup 2.0 - Solo Filter Pod Coffee Stainless Mesh - 8 Rainbow Color as well as all Keurig coffee and cocoa k-cups used thus far. It takes about 2.5 minutes for the water to heat up, then 30 seconds later your cup is full and it's ready to brew again. PRO: Small and light, probably the smallest available at this time. Great for travel or saving counter space. PRO: Easy enough for elderly relatives to use PRO: Much easier to clean than a traditional coffee pot (even with the reusable K-cups rinsing out the coffee grounds) PRO: Cheaper than the beastly sized Keurig machines, and the Hamilton Beach single-serve Flexbrew PRO: Can brew cup after cup, there's no cool down time like on some units PRO: No leakage or grounds found in coffee/cocoa/tea brewed thus far CON: The water volume that comes back out is inconsistent. About 1 out of 5 cups made seems to be off. So that cup that only brewed half full, the next person that uses it will have a cup that overflows. So be prepared for that. CON: A bit noisier than expected while it heats up the water. Not a deal killer as long as you aren't brewing the coffee near a sleeping person. I'd liken it to the sound volume of a hair dryer on low, definitely noisier than my large water peculator. CON: Confusing marketing. Like many foreign products & clothing sold on coffeemakers.us.com this unit looks identical to other coffee makers just with a different name stamped on it and having minor differences. For example, if you compare this Chulux to the IFill Cup - Single Serve Compact K-cup Brewer - Ifill300 (Black) (Includes Free 6 Units of Ifill Cup Filter, Reusable up to 10 times)r and the Knox Compact Travel Size K-Cup Coffee Brewer sold here you'll see what I'm referring to. In this case, the Chulux and Knox both have the built in water filter (when you lift the top lid to dump in water, there's a small filter basket with a screen that filters any bits that may try sneaking in when you dump your water in. The Ifill unit doesn't have that, but instead comes with 6 semi-reusable coffee pods (not as nice as the ones you can buy separately). So comparing apples to apples, look at both this Chulux and the Knox and buy whichever has the better sale. CON: This won't be a con for people just wanting to brew into a regular ceramic coffee cup, but I hope future models are made slightly larger to accommodate taller travel mugs. With the base tray, the max height of your mug can be 4.5". With the units base tray removed, a 5.75" tall travel mug could fit underneath, perhaps slightly taller if you tilt it in. Good for smaller 12oz travel mugs (12oz is the max water volume), pictured is a 16oz travel mug that definitely won't fit under the spout. Overall, a compact unit that does the job and handles any k-cup or your choice of coffee grounds in a reusable k-cup pods (sold separately). If they could make future models slightly larger and with some sound dampening it would be an easy 5-star winner.
My old Kuerig finally gave out after about 7 years, maybe more. I decided I wanted to spend a little more since that one lasted so long. This is so easy and so easy to clean after. Could not be more simple for a latte. I do a double shot, so I run mine twice. But it’s a great little machine. Love that the water container is easier to put back in than my last one! The noise level is not going to wake anyone up. Size is smaller than my old one and this one does more! Very lightweight. Hoping for another many years of great coffee!
The size occupied on the counter means it can stay out and makes life easier for me. The color makes my wife happy.
It’s a really decent, compact espresso machine. It does take a few minutes for the water to heat up and brew. The milk frother is a bit weird, functional, but takes some getting used to! The provided spoon is good for filling up the portafilter, but definitely not good for packing the grounds in, I got an actual tamp to use and it’s so much better! It’s great for small spaces, I live in an rv and it’s perfect!
I purchased this coffee maker, for my guests, just because it's white so it matches my kitchen and it's super simple to use. Based on those 2 criteria, this coffee maker is satisfactory. Unfortunately, when I used it the 1st time, I realised that it's missing a lid over the ground beans so the hot water sprays the coffee grounds EVERYWHERE inside. The machine is so dirty from just 1 use! I fixed that by making a lid myself and securing it with a nut and screw. Without this modification, it's impossible to use this coffee maker. It's a cheap machine and now you know why - it's missing parts inside. Do not recommend.
I have been enjoying the nitro cold brew growler for two weeks now. The system functions as described, and turns cold brew into foaming nitro goodness. This is a great purchase for anyone that enjoys nitro cold brew, and definitely saves money. I personally have been purchasing large Starbucks cold brews, add milk within the growler and with one nitro capsule I have several nitro cold brew servings. It is always readily available which is great for anyone in a rush in the mornings. Highly recommend. To be noted is one nitro capsule is required for each growler fill. Once emptied, add your cold brew combination with a new capsule.
The machine was really quick to set up. Brews great. Perfect measurements of desired oz. Extremely easy to use, however the needle gets clogged and causes an error message to appear if you don't do a few (2-3) rinse cycles regularly (1-2 days). Depending on usage regularly could be daily, to every other day, or 3rd day. Our machine is used in an office environment and needs the rinse cycle (no k-pod inserted, just let it brew with water) at least every other day.
I love this coffee maker when using a normal filter, but I am having so many issues with kcups. I have tried several different brands and flavors over the last couple weeks and I get so many coffee grounds in my cup. I’m talking a solid tbsp or more, so gross. Finally I put a filter under the kcup adapter and brewed to catch them. Then I opened the kcup and found a rip in the filter inside the cup. See photos. My sister in law has the same maker and has no issues with hers. We’ve even tried using the same kcups. Yes, I have cleaned all of the holes, and no they were not clogged. The water pressure is just ripping a hole in the kcup filter then all the grounds flow out the bottom hole, or they overflow from the top holes. So much ruined and wasted coffee.
