Quick brewing (less than 8 minutes for a full pot), attractive design, easy to clean, and the built-in grinder is very convenient.
Received the classy Solo single serve Coffee Maker today, via coffeemakers.us.com fast service! Easy to set up. Easy to clean, fun to use and coffee was deliciously hot. It fits nicely into the space we have on our countertop, even though it has a good-sized water reservoir. Be careful of the reservoir when unpacking, so it won’t fall off of its perch. Also, I added round sticky felt pads to the “feet” of this machine, so it will slide easily. They work great. The instruction booklet is amazingly clear and helpful. This little baby will make your morning coffee fun again!! No negatives to report. Even Hubs is impressed.
Quick Review: The overall build quality and engineering of this portable Espresso maker is satisfactory, and seems -mostly- well thought through. If your ONLY going to be using this for pre-ground drip coffee or Nespresso "Original" pods, and dont mind the resulting coffee being a touch sub-par or a little cooler after brewing, you can probably disregard the negative aspects of my review. I would rate it at least 3, if not 4 stars under those conditions, particularly after factoring in the current 40% off coupon. For my use-case though, I have to drop 3 stars because the refillable pod was damaged after a single use. The metal filter crumpled against the wall where water flows out, from the pressure it generates with a Nespresso-comparable grind settings (I use the same grind in my refillable Nespresso pods). The refillable pod was likely only designed for preground drip coffee, despite the machine being able to handle finer grinds in it's other adapters. As I intended to use it with fresh ground coffee most of the time, my ability to use it is now severely limited unless I go through the hassle of a return. If the metal plate was a little thicker and the holes in the filter adjusted better, the refillable adapter could have easily handled some finer espresso grinds. ... More details, good and bad: *The instructions are generally minimal and I wish they went into more detail on a few things. Details like recommended grind size for the refillable pod in particular would have been nice. ***Despite my observation below, your not *supposed* to use refillable Nespresso pods in the Nespresso pod adapter. The instructions dont tell you this, it permanently punctured my refillable pods no less than three times before I figured this out. On the bright side, there is no question about the needle's durability if it survived punching the steel pod three times. **Its not that the machine cant handle the "Nespresso" fine grind settings. I used the same settings in my refillable Nespresso pod, the kind you reseal with a foil sticker. The machine had no issue makin g coffee using this pod, other than permanent cosmetic damage to the refillable pod. *Coffee is generally a little cooler after brewing than straight from my Nespresso machine, though Id say its generally at a good drinking tempurature. Its still hot enough to mix with powdered creamer like Coffeemate, if you prefer. *The espresso flavor seems a little lacking compared to brewing from my full sized Nespresso machine. Its not bad, it just strikes me as an "OK quality for camping or getting caffeine without leaving my desk" situation. *Build quality is a little lacking in a couple spots, but generally feels pretty solid. Id say 85% of it feels sturdy and made with good thick plastic while 15% of the parts seem questionable. *Battery life is very short when using the heater, about 3-4 brews before running out. It takes a long time to recharge after even a single shot. Its still great for getting a shot of coffee for 1 or 2 people once a day. However, if you have access to an electric kettle or campfire to preheat the water, it can make many more shots before recharging. *The charging indicator is very bright and easy to see in a well lit room. Its easy to glance over to check on it. It also pulses orange while heating water so you can keep an eye on it while brewing. The USB C charging port means you dont have to keep track of a specific charging cable. *I wish the charging port had a splash resistant rubber cover, the body is not waterproof and this would help protect it from an accidental spill while filling it. *It appears to make authentic crema using Nespresso pods, not faux crema like some machines do "for presentation". I suspect the refillable adapter makes faux crema though, it has a design that reminds me of a pressurized portafilter. *I cant find anything definitive in the instructions or advertising on what the "Large" coffee pods actually are. Ive not been able to find anything concrete on search engines either. Id like to try these larger pods, or even see if they have a refillable pod in this size that works without being damaged. *The refillable pod is fairly well designed outside of the filter warping. It has a cap that splits the water flow from the needle into 4 directions to better saturate the grinds. Coffee likes to get stuck on the rubber seal though, and can be a pain to clean off for a proper seal. *It has a working thermometer inside the heating chamber and can use it to save battery power, heating mode does NOT simply run on a timer. For example, if you have access to a hot water dispenser but know it's not hot enough to brew with, heating mode will detect this. It took less than 3 minutes to heat 150 degree water to 186 and brew with it, compared to 5 minutes with cold water from my fridge. *The lid is NOT waterproof. Its NOT a good idea to fill it with water and put it in a travel bag, it WILL leak. This is because the lid has a pressure relief system so the expanding steam doesnt make the kettle burst. Instead, keep a flask or something on hand to fill it only when your ready to use it. *It can be used without the lid on, though the lid helps protect you from spills if something knocks it over while heating. The lid is fairly secure once attached, though I do worry about the tiny locking notches breaking, I wish they were a bit thicker. *The flat water heating chamber tends to trap a ml or two of water, it helps to open the lid when you hear the pump run dry and tilt the remaining water into the pump inlet. You can then tap the power button once to shut the pump off, though it will automatically stop after a minute. *I wish it had a separate stand or ring so you could brew into cups other than the one it comes with. The included cup is not exactly fragile, though it strikes me as something that might crack if you drop it onto concrete.
I love this pour over coffee maker. I order this because I have been trying to replace plastics from my kitchen into glass or ceramic, including my drip coffee maker. This pour over coffee is made of good quality ceramic, sturdy and easy to use. Most of all, it makes great coffee. I am so happy that I got this.
This is a pretty good size pitcher; roughly makes 2L of cold brew coffee. Our household drink a lot of coffee so we need switch to cold brew from time to time so as not to get to acidic. The height of this brewer is about 11 inches with a width of about 6 inches so make sure you have enough space in your refrigerator. Cold brew coffee made with this tasted so smooth and is easy on your stomach. Great brewer !
I am ready to get rid of this thing. It leaks everywhere. It's impossible to clean. I got it for $100 on a black Friday special. I will never buy a Keurig machine again.
Makes coffee perfectly and when the sensor stopped working, customer support through their email was quick to help me troubleshoot it and ended up replacing it for me. It is one of the best turkish coffee machines i have tried so far and i do recommend giving it a shot
I am a coffeegeek. My 'other car' is a German lever operated espresso machine. I often use gram scales and kitchen timers to ensure optimal brewing of my target. However... I have three kids that get on each of their school buses from 6:45 to 8am and don't have time in the morning race to go through the rigmarole of making drip coffee properly. I know others might say 'oh.. it doesn't take that long to... (blah blah blah blah)' Hey! I'm drinking coffee? Do you HONESTLY think I'm a morning person?? I need a couple cups of coffee to wake up enough to make my cappuccino on my lever machine after the kids are off to school! I used the highly rated Bonavita Connoisseur (https://smile.coffeemakers.us.com.com/Bonavita-One-Touch-Featuring-Thermal-BV1900TS/dp/B00O9FO1HK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2HIS36HH6ROCK&keywords=bonavita+coffee+maker&qid=1573311622&sprefix=bonavita%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-3) for the last while after being disappointed in the low quality of the Kcup system (due to old coffee and over extracted amount of coffee (9.5gm / American mug is half strength). It makes a great cup of coffee (and also has SCA certification like this brewer) - BUT - you can only really make half a pot of coffee (4 5oz cups isn't enough for our household) and with 8-12c filters, you will overflow the filter 25% of the time-ish.. AND you have to preheat the thermos kettle or else you're going to be drinking luke-warm coffee ("I spit you out of my mouth!" - JC) especially if you use a little cream. The Breville rocks: • You can control the flow rate in case you're overrunning your filters • Holds the coffee at a good hot temp - 182'f (that isn't scalding for you pansies worried about using a heating plate) • Up to 1.8l of hot coffee!! • Even the quick start guide has proper grams per volume of water (5.5% extraction ratio per SCA standards) • .... aaaaaandddd.... **** drum roll please!!!! ***** AUTOMATIC timer!!!! THE best part of waking up... it's not THAT coffee in your cup - it's whatever you want in your cup, when you want it, HOT. Gripes - • Only keeps the hot plate on for 2 hours... usually the coffee is gone by then, so no biggie for me. • That's it. If you read online reviews of brewers you'll see complaints that it's too complicated. Uh.. sorry snowflake - took all of 30 seconds of reading the quick start guide to figure it out. Drink more coffee. OK - one point that wasn't immediately obvious - when you enter the hardness from the included test strip, the number on the machine is the number of red bars that show up on the hardness scale. There's all kinds of other features that I don't care about - like using the single brew setting with optional adapters etc... I will like to play around with the iced coffee setting someday, but today I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee. ******* Addendum: If you are looking for filters for this machine - you won't find any information in the manual that comes with the machine. I believe they are 12c filters, usually found for commercial machines. See the attached picture to compare against a typical brand 8-12c filter. You can see why you'll end up with a pot full of grounds if you try to use the 5.5% ratio for more than a 8c pot... and forget about 100g of grounds for a 12c pot! Sams locally had the commercial 12c filters you might want to check out.
The 10 cup carafe leaks scalding hot coffee out of the handle seal when you pour it. Reached out to manufacturer and want me to fill out a form and maybe they'll replace it. Would have been better off buying anything else but this headache...
Stainless steel carafes never keep the coffee as hot as the glass ones, but this one does a good job. I can live with this. And that’s high praise. Other reviews talk about it overflowing and making a mess. I have to imagine they are using two filters or starting with hot water or something?? Because we have had no problems. Again, I mean that as high praise. Waking up to a fresh pot of coffee is nice. Being able to grab a cup before it finishes is also nice. 5 stars.
We really like the coffee maker. We use it for making cacao. The coffee pot has always leaked since we have had it. It leaks really bad when we are pouring into the mugs. I didn't know why it was doing it until I saw the plastic ring with the pour spout separating from the glass pot. It is getting worse with time. I don't have the box to send it back plus we bought it in June 2024. Kenmore is lacking in quality control. We hand wash the pot so putting it in the dishwasher isn't the reason it is separating. Just poor manufacturing.
It's perfect and I can't wait to use it. I had a Keurig for many years and it was huge and took up a huge amount of space on my small kitchen counter. When I shopped, all the ones I could find were too small. I would always be putting water in them. When I saw this was compact and had a larger water storage, why not check it out? I have a small section that is only 10" wide, which is the perfect size for this pot.
It makes good coffee but you cant enjoy it. It's annoying to get to drink the coffee the latch is in the way of the sipping lid. You will need a another cup to pour out the coffee into in order to enjoy your coffee.
This is a great little coffee maker. I have a 10 year old son who, though never diagnosed, not only defines, but gives nuance and richness to, the letters ADHD. We are also that family that ALWAYS gets ALL the crazy side effects to medications. You know the ones that don't even appear on the product insert because they are so rare? We are the .000001%. Accordingly we try every alternative before trying medication and I have heard coffee can be helpful for kids with ADHD. So I bought this 4 cup Mr. Coffee DRX5 coffee maker and a can of coffee for my 10 year old (because I wasn't sharing my good stuff with him). This is truly only a 4 cup (not mug) coffee maker. You are going to get maybe 2 mugs of coffee from this if you add half and half. That seems like just the right amount for a single person. Maybe. I figure it is enough for a 10 year old. A plus for us is the pot isn't heavy for a 10 year old and he has no problems making his own coffee. The Mr. Coffee DRX5 programmable coffee maker allows you to make coffee with a timer, but it makes coffee so fast we haven't bothered using the program feature. I do like that it automatically shuts off after a half an hour so I don't have to rely on my 10 year old to remember. A half hour is just right for the amount of coffee this machine brews. Another reviewer suggested the water receptical was small and difficult to fill. We have not not experienced any problems filling it however. I included a picture with the top open and you can see there is plenty of room to fill the machine. Someone else remarked the coffee pot itself had a tiny spout making it difficult to pour the coffee. My 10 year old tries to pour his coffee very fast and does often spill it. However, so long as you pour the coffee slowly, the spout works fine. The only issue I have with our Mr. Coffee brewing system is the lid that closes over the coffee and water is a little fiddlely and doesn't really close completely. Fortunately our OCD is mostly manageable and we have survived the visual assault posed by that unseemly crack from the lid's failure to close all the way. Most of the time. But obviously not completely because I didn't give this product all 5 stars... I paid full price for the Mr. Coffee DRX5. I would definitely recommend it for anyone just looking for a couple of mugs of coffee at a time and who doesn't need the top lid to close tight every time.
If you are making a pot of coffee this works great and makes rich tasting coffee. The k cup for a single cup is less effective. I like to use reusable cups personally. There are no reusable pods that work well. The ones I purchased stated they were for ninja but the coffee spills everywhere when they are used which is a pretty frustrating. I have not tried the single use k cups yet.
