Update: Despite loving this coffee maker, I am returning it for what is probably a rare reason. It triggers my asthma. It took me a lot of time to find the cause of the asthma attacks. I looked at my purchases from the time when the attacks started. At first I thought it was a prescription eye drop I use. I picked it up from the pharmacy the day the attacks started, but it was an Rx I've used for months with no ill-effects. I experimented with the Rx: I took it and found the attacks continued. I stopped using it and the attacks continued. My doctor put me on a Prednisone burst for 5 days and I had no attacks on those days. But as soon as the burst ran out, the attacks started again. Then a couple days ago I checked my coffeemakers.us.com purchases. Turns out I received the coffee maker on the day the attacks started. Yesterday I made coffee in my Mr. Coffee and there was no attack. Ditto for today. I Googled, looking to see if others have had Keurig's that triggered attacks. Mostly, what I found was that it was possible because hot water interacting with the plastic and foil in K cups might activate chemicals, or there could be mold in the Keurig. I doubt there's mold in the one I bought because it showed no sign of having been used. I know nothing about chemistry, so I can't really weigh in on whether the potential interaction with plastic and foil is true or false. I just know that since I stopped using the Keurig, the asthma has stopped. I'm leaving the five stars from my original review because the Keurig is so pretty, so much fun to use, and so solidly built -- and I think my issue is probably extremely rare. Just one more thing: when Googling the issue, I got a lot of links that warned about mold forming and the need for regular cleaning. Passing that along because when I bought the Keurig I saw nothing about mold -- just the info that regular descaling is necessary. Original review: I have a lot of green and turquoise/teal in my kitchen but black seemed like the safer choice. To settle the matter, i ordered both colors. In the end, I chose the turquoise one because it's so cheerful-looking. I'm giving the black one to a friend. By the way, my choice surprised me. The black one arrived a day before the turquoise one and I was quite happy with it. Almost decided to just return the turquoise one without opening it. But curiosity won out and I'm glad it did because the difference is dramatic and the choice is a lot more fun. For k cups, I ordered what has been my everyday coffee for many years: Folger's Colombian medium. Tastes exactly the same as what I had been making in my Mr. Coffee. I had worried needlessly that the k cup wouldn't brew to my preference, but it did in the medium-size mug setting.
I have enjoyed using the Chemex coffee brew system. I did have a Keurig, but I felt like it was never clean, and there was no way to clean inside of it. I was concerned that was what was causing me to have additional allergies and issues with my health. Lots of research I found Chemex. Having the system all glass, I’m able to clean it thoroughly each time. I got the 3 cup size, which is perfect for just me to use. I have tried the half filters as well as the folded filters. I recommend the square pre-folded filters because they do not have a seam where the grounds can escape. You just have to add an additional fold for the 3 – cup size. I also got a stainless steel electric kettle. This is a great combination. If you are concerned about if your Keurig or coffee maker is fully clean, I highly recommend this product. It is very easy to use and the coffee taste great. The only thing I don’t really like and wish was different. Is the wood band on it. As you can see from the photos, it gets worn down after getting wet through the washes. The leather knot is too hard to undo each time so I don’t untie the knot anymore. I tried untying it a few times but it is hard to get back on tight enough. They need a band of some sort that does better with washing instead of wood— or something easier to remove.
Just got the machine today. Cleaned it according to the manual and the coffee temperature was fine, not as 'cold' as some of the other customers said. It's bigger than I thought and looks really sleek. Only disappointment is that the capsules which came with the machine expired already :(
Makes a great and, most importantly, a consistent cup of coffee. Unfortunately the carafe ruins the experience. It makes a complete mess when you try to pour - coffee everywhere but in the mug. Whoever designed it never actually poured out a cup. Pathetic! Even worse there is always some coffee left behind even when you flip the carafe upside down.
The Tastyle Single Brewer is exactly as pictured and listed. If you've used a little hotel coffee brewer, it's the same idea; using the cup or mug you'll be drinking out of, fill it with water and pour it in. There is no water reservoir so what you pour in is what comes out. It comes with a little reusable k-cup for fresh grounds, but I only tested/used a k-cup as I don't think the 'use your own grounds' is ever strong enough for me. That said, I also chose to brew with the 'over ice' option because that makes a stronger brew than what the average cup is. This is just a 'back up' and 'travel' brewer for me, so it won't be getting a ton of use, as it's not my normal household brewer. The lack of reservoir is not an issue for me in that case and if it's not a 'long lasting' brewer that won't be a huge issue for me either. If you can catch it on a sale, it's a good choice.
We visited family in washington and the MIL and 2 SILs had machines. All vertuos. My wife loved the coffee. We are traveling in a motorhome and rely on solar. The Black & Decker machine that we brought along was a great coffee maker. It ground the beans freshly every morning. I found a Nespresso Next and bought it. Every morning we wake up and have 2 cups of coffee with fluffed milk. We bought a kit to refill the pods for 15 cents each. I weigh the coffee in each one. We were concerned that the crema would not be the same, but it actually made more of each hue. We used Costco coffee but had to buy at a different store this time. I am curious if it will be the same. The real bonus is that the Black & Decker machine used 12 amps to brew and it took several minutes and then it dropped to 4 amps to keep warm. The Nespresso takes 30 seconds to brew and the machine and fluffer together use 14 amps. When you are the power company, every watt counts.
The chemex makes a good cup of coffee, but it’s a time consuming exercise. If you’re in a rush or don’t have time in the morning, it’s not something you will use often. To make a really good cup of coffee with the chemex takes at least 10-15 minutes, and a lot of people don’t have that luxury in the morning rush. That said, you can make an excellent cup o Joe with the chemex and a good grinder. It’s just a matter of preference.
This is an excellent grinder for coffee from coarse to fine (but not espresso). Totally manual, which is how i like it, with a power switch that must be held in the ON position to grind. I don't find this to be at all inconvenient. The grind is smooth and consistent, grind adjustment is smooth and easy, and the glass dispenser cup with silicone covers that seal against the grinder's output spout keep grinds from flying about, for a neater kitchen. There is some static in the grounds, a bit more than I would have expected, but I find that waiting 5 minutes after grinding before opening the jar allows a lot of the charge to dissipate. Very highly recommended.
I have enjoyed this French press until this morning when the the top button of the plunger came off in my hand. There is no way to put it back on. I looked to see if I can find a replacement for the plunger, but to no avail
I love love love my new Kenmore coffee maker!! It is super cute, perfect size for 1-2 people, and a total breeze to clean! So many great features, and I especially love the reusable coffee filter! A++ would 100% recommend this coffee maker to all my friends & family!
Proctor-Silex Single-Serve Coffee Maker is made in China and is Intertek ETL listed for the US and Canada. It conforms to UL Standard 1082 for Household Electric Coffee Makers and Brewing-Type Appliances. This is a very efficient single serve coffee maker. It brews both K-cup pods as well as ground coffee efficiently. It comes with a K-cup holder as well as a brewing basket for grounds so no additional accessories need to be purchased. It holds 40 oz of water so there is no need to refill the reservoir between cups. There is a recommended waiting period of 2 minutes between brews. I would like the option to adjust cup size since 10 ounces is not only the default choice, it is the only choice. However, that is the only thing that I miss when comparing to the high end coffee makers. I am using this for a quick, no fuss, early morning first cup brew. The unit is attractive and has a simple but effective design that rivals the pricer pod brewers that I have used. I don’t need wifi on my coffee brewer to reorder pods or to turn the machine on or off. The simplicity of this dual method brewer is what I find appealing. It’s easy to use and easy to clean. Proctor-Silex Model 49919 Coffee Maker has everything that I really need in a single serve brewer. It works very well.
I used this a few times a week for over a year, it makes great coffee, had no issues except the white finish scuffs easily even with handwashing. But! This weekend I used it. Same as always— did not overfill it, etc.- and when depressing the plunger, it “burped.” Scalding hot coffee spurted out everywhere, and burned my arm quite badly. I am so grateful my toddler was not nearby when this happened, it could have been disastrous! This is a dangerous product. I will not be using it again.
Had read reviews and thought I would give it a try for the price, why not. Was getting tired of spending 8 dollars for a cup of coffee. Everyone in the house is extremely happy with it. Saw on a review that coffee drips through sides as its brewing, its because the steamer button is on while brewing. Turn it off when brewing and it works perfect. Its meant for small cups. So what my son figured out is to take drip grid and drip pan out and place cup in well then put coffee grinder arm in, then brew. Then take arm off and then take cup out .. I know its has some steps involved but again, The coffee is so much worth it. Hope this helps.
This thing is just sheer luxury! Image being able to make the perfect cup of espresso anywhere, anytime! Whether you want to use a capsule, or your own grind, this lovely device will have you sipping a restorative and delicious beverage in no time. At your desk, in your vehicle, on your boat, with a goat, on a train in the rain and everywhere else you might have Green Eggs and Ham. Superior German workmanship makes this a top notch piece of equipment that works perfectly every time. My only complaint, and it is a pretty small one, is that they should have put the instruction details on it rather than making me consult the wee manual all the time. Otherwise zehr gut!
